CM10 - SD Partition with Link2SD: "mount: invalid argument" - Samsung Galaxy Mini

Hi,
here the specs of my phone:
- Samsung S5570
- Android ver 4.1.2
- CyanoGen 10-20121209-UNOFFICIAL-tass
Using ClockworkMod i formatted my 4GB SD (Kingston) with 1024MB partition and 0 cache.
I installed Link2SD to complete the "link" to SD but when i choose Fat32/16 for filesystem for the second partition i get this error:
Code:
mount: Invalid argument
Because i'm using a Windows system i can't use Ext#
Thanks for your help.

Reduce EXT Size.
EXT Size should be 512 MB (cause Read Write access on our Mini is very limited)
Swap is OK.

Flash any s2e script !!
And then mount ..

How can I do this through a mac? I have a similar issue and I've played around with both exFat and ext4, but neither work (one format isn't recognized by the phone, the other is not mounting telling me to reformat). I was using this guide.
I'm using a 5570i with gingerbread and windows 7 for the adb.

Yes, it is perfectly fine if you make one with gparted or mini tools... make sure you run this command in terminal before flashing a2sd...
mount | grep sd-ext
thanks to both
what mount | grep sd-ext exactly do?
aso my gparted already see my sdext partition ext4 if i partitioned it from recovery is that possible or an error?
That command checks if there exists an sd ext partition.
I don't know abt gparted but cwm formats the card and partitions it so it should not be a prob
I used minitools for partitioning
u can go for ext4 no harm in tht
if ur using mini tool make sure u keep all partitions as primary
also ext2/3/4 wont b detected on windows so dont panic if u dont see the partitions once done they r thr meant for ur phone nt windows
Without a2sd what is the exact command to convert partition to ext4 ? It can be very useful

yeah, but "problem" is after a restore. If we convert partition in ext4 after restore, all data already in partition remain on ext3, only new data will be on ext4.
So it will be good that cwm could format always sdext in ext4

I believe that you are taking about the cache that will use your internal memory even if you have a2sd enabled. THough it is not recommended to do so unless needed (i.e. your memory is very low) you can move dalvik cache to sd-ext from APP2SDGUI app or though this simple command
su
a2sd cachesd
It will move dalvik cache to sd-ext.

Don't try anything eles.... Just install darktremor as said here http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2011/09/how-to-partition-sd-card-and-install.html
If possible format your sd-ext before installing darktermor app2sd. THen all you need to so is move dalvik to sd-ext as said above. And your internal memory will be totally empty. You can explorer /sd-ext/ folder using root explorer to see if a2sd is working properly.
After using link2sd for a day, I find that it is working, and it even allows u to specify which apps to move, and what all to move...
I did partition before using a2sd, and I understand the thing about the dalvik cache (moving which would make my device slower)...
Anyways, thanks for replying...

thanks... I tried to use it before and it creates a right ext 4 partition, but the rom (lenio rom v4) does not recognize the partition
I tried to label the partition "sd-ext" or with no label
but in both modes it does not work
incredible... I did the ext4 by minitool but the a2sd on lenio v4 does not recognize the sd-ext
update:
created ext4 by minitool partition wizard, but it seems that phone can't recognize it, coz the rom does not see the partition
is there something to do to make the phone create/see ext4 partitions?
tried the last attempt, with another CWM (5.0.2.8 touch ext)
I partitioned the SD, choosing ext4, but when I control, it's ext3
why that???

maybe the CWM failed to format it with ext4 file system,
or the ROM you use failed to identify ext4 file system, some guys told me there are ROMs that don't support the ex4 yet, you may want to read your ROM specification,
or somehow the ROM need additional script to read ext4 file system properly,
recently I've tried more than 10 times partitioning my SD cards, but most of it failed in attempts,
it won't be mounted as second partition, therefore I can't use Link 2 SD properly,
My ROM is PAC 22.1.0
I've tried partition tools: Minitool, CWM 5, AParted (SDCARD Partiton Tool) app, checked the partition table with Partition Table app, trying to mount second partiton manually with Android Terminal Emulator (using "mount" command), success using CWM.
I've tried ext2, ext3, ext4 partitions, but success only with FAT32 file system,
I think in the process I've delete some media in /system partition, maybe it creates problem since Link 2 SD need to modify some files in /system partition to mount the second partition,
I tried with Lenio vQuattro, partitioning with minitool, the sd-ext was correctly partitioned as ext4, but the phone did not saw the sd-ext. The rom is done to use only ext4.
So I went back to the most recent cm 10.1 (with ext3 and int2ext+) because this is my only phone and I need it to phone
Better use mini tool partition wizard..
You can choose the type of part, like ext2 ext3 or ext4..

Go to cwm recovery -> mounts & storage -> format sd-ext (It will format your second partition in ext3 format)
Reboot the phone and open link2sd and select ext3 as your second partition. If it still gives error go to more options in link2sd and recreate mount script and select ext4 and reboot phone
For full space problem, uninstall some unnecessary apps from /system and /data or move apps to sd card using Link2Sd

CWM Recovery v5.0.2.6 should have this option. I'm looking at it right now. Right below format /sdcard & Right Above mount USB Storage option is the option format /sd-ext
Anyway if you still can't find it in cwm, use minitool partition in windows to format the sd-ext partition in ext3 format. Link2sd has some issues in Jellyblast ROM in my experience. But it was solved for me by the method i explained to you in my last post. Also verify if you have got the latest version of link2sd.
Most importantly, please note that link2sd will only detect ext2 format if you are on stock kernel. It will detect ext3 & ext4 formats only if you are on Rafael's kernel

Partition CWM

I just have a question. Is it safe to partition my sd card in clockwork mod recovery coz I have clockwork mod 5.0.2.6 and in the advanced there is an option "Partition SD Card" and if u select it there at several amounts like 246m, 400m, 1026m, 2046m. So would it work if I do it in my clockword mod recovery.
Yes it works. Creates ext3. Backup sd contents first then copy back after.

Hi Pj_Singh
Is there any particular reason you want to create ext4 partition only? I mean Galaxy Ace doesn't have very great processor and ext4 is slower than ext2. Take a look at this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=800353

Despite the fact that ext4 is slower, it is required for most of the newest rom's/kernels to work. And the ext4 is "slightly" slower, means you wont see the difference, at least not when using a phone.

TWRP or CWM should not be used to create a new ext partition if your sdcard already have another ext partition. Meaning you should have only one ext partition in your sdcard. So delete the ext3 partition and the fat32 partition, then create a single new fat32 partition on the 32BG sdcard. Now use the recovery mod to create the ext partition. That should work. Between Link2SD and CronMod, I would always go for CronMod. Then again its my opinion. Any way if you have any problem, just post here and I'll be glad to help

Hang on a minute, let me check my disk space, it still reads '16MB free, 162MB used'. is that normal? The script has already been put into the- Wait a minute, the space just increased to 24MB free, 154MB used.
Oh my gosh. Link2SD is saying that there is no second partition.
Apparently the other init.d files are rwxr-xr-x, root, shell, but 40int2ext is rwxr-xr-x, root, root. Is that normal too?
P.S. Sorry, my Shift key is malfunctioning
EDIT: I'm manually flashing Cronmod again, instead of copying directly, as TWRP and CWM 6 didn't allow. CWM 5 works like a charm.
EDIT 2: Still 15MB free *Cries*

You should know that CronMod and Link2SD doesn't work together. Since CronMod is present, Link2sd can't find the ext partition. What is the size of your ext partition. What rom are you using now? For every 512MB sd-ext partition you need a 100MB space on /data. So please limit your sd-ext patition to 1GB max.

I'm using Maclaw's CM10.1. I don't use CronMod and Link2SD together, when i figured out that CronMod didn't work I tried to use Link2SD. As for the /data, is it 100MB free?

For our Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830, we have an internal memory of 150MB. So your ext partition size should not be more than 1GB for CronMod to work. BTW what is the size of your ext partition?

If I'm not wrong... I chose 1024MB (1GB) at the selection screen.

As a last resort, try to reflash this rom. Make sure to backup all the data. Take the rom file, extract it, put 40int2ext file inside /system/etc/init.d/ and then compress it back. Now go to CWM, do "Wipe Data/ Factory reset", "Wipe cache partitions", Mount & Storage> "Format /system" and "Format /sd-ext", Advanced> "Wipe Dalvik Cache" and "Wipe Battery Stats". Now reflash the custom rom. This should pretty much solve it. Restore all the necessary data.

I've tried that already, and the device went into a bootloop. However, I used GParted to partition 777MB sd-ext, and the rest FAT32, and it boot up after flashing CM10.1 > GApps > CronMod INT2EXT4
The only problem was that the memory remained the same, and Partition info showed /sd-ext (EXT 0.00B/0.00B)
EDIT: For some reason sd-ext doesn't mount, but formats perfectly.

Have you tried flashing the CronMod from CWM? Can you give it a try? Also try to use INT2EXT+ as it is much more stable than others. Hope I Helped

When I flash it from CWM sometimes it somehow finishes without incident, but the file doesn't get copied.

Try to use INT2EXT+ as it is much more stable than others. Also you might need to mount /system from CWM before flashing if its not getting copied.
