I really need a case for my phone but im stuck between the two. In you guys opinion which case is better?
What are you looking for in a case and is price an issue?

I'm looking for protection for the most important feature then looks, but no price is not a option

The otterbox commuter is gonna have better protection than the aegis. I just got the aegis and like it, but the commuter case for our phone is pretty nice, and im sure that dual layer on that would be better in a fall than this hybrid aegis case. Im loving the way it feels and fits, just not a true dual layer etc

With about 4 Otterbox threads and 3 Trident agis threads floating around right on the same page, I wonder what makes people start new threads?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
I'll have them side by side when I get the commuter sometime next week. From reading all the threads about the Otterbox, I'd say it will be the more protective of the two. If you want a slimmer case than there are definite benefits to the Trident. As far as protection, I would put it a few degrees above a scratch-protecting / minimum tpu style case, but its still very snug and firm feeling. It doesn't have much cushioning and there is nothing extra on the corners. For me it remains to be seen if the commuter exceeds it.
As for style and looks, offhand I'd prefer the Trident. Otterboxes are too plain and boring. Plus they are everywhere on everyone's phone. I might slap a FlyGrip on my commuter to at least make it semi special. FlyGrip probably wouldn't work well on the Aegis due to the recessed logo on the back.

Looking at what is currently available and in development for the GN2, I'm wondering which of the premium protective "shock/drop absorbing" cases do you most prefer and why? The cases I feel best fit this category are (no particular order):
• Trident Aegis (Kraken won't be developed)
• Seidio Active
• Ballistic Shell Gel
• Otterbox Commuter
• Otterbox Defender
What Say You? Which do you prefer and why? If you already have one or experience with them for other devices, then please also share the info.

I'd probably go with a SGP screen protector and go with the Ballistic Shell Gel, Trident Aegis, or Otterbox Commuter. I don't think the Defender will be a great fit especially if you love having a smooth surface for the S-Pen. Seido's known for a loose fit and the metal concerns me. I love ballistic's drop protection (corners and lay flat). I've heard good things about trident cases and I'm gonna give them a shot. Otterbox has lived off its name these couple of years and has regressed in function and quality. For Now, I hope one of these inexpensive ebay/amazon cases do the job until I get a permanent case.
I've only ever owned an Otterbox Defender of all the tough cases. It was for my old evo 3d but I fully believed in it. It makes even tiny phones giant monsters so I can't imagine what it would do to out phone.
My friends thought it was huge too so to show them that it was worth putting my phone in for the hike we were on one day I literally tossed it down the trail downhill and showed them my phone was perfectly fine.

Im guessing the answer is going to be the defender

I have the otterbox defender. The only downside for me was the screen protector. Had a gap and would let dust in, so I took it off. Now I have my own protector, but the case seems a little lose. =/

Otterbox defender is the best with iq shield screen protector
Seems like the answer is the defender but it has couple flaws. Rip out that screen protector, trim that power button, and it gets loose. Idk its alot of modifying for an expensive case. Now if we could just find one without these flaws. Seidio rings a bell but the magnet on the kick stand seems to interfere with the spen from what I gather. And if it breaks from a drop your sol. Thats what they told me. Thumbs down

Well the defender is gonna be the most protection cus your comparing cases in different classes. Aegis and urban armor are both 2 in 1 injection molded cases. Much slimmer amd great protection for their size and weight, but not in the same category as the defender

but if i have anti shock screen protector .. i should get Otterbox Defender ?
what is your advice
this case is a huge really .. it makes the phone very big
anyone have a drop test / experience with Urban Armor UAG or Trident Aegis ?
I cant understand how people compare Aegis and UAG to Defender? They are in a totally different class. Also I cant understand how people vote for UAG a case that isn't available yet? Dont get me wrong. It looks great and most probably I will order one but it shouldn't be in this poll yet. Adding for example the ballistic would make more sense.
depends on the type of drop you plan on doing.
i had a ballistic hardcore case for my atrix 4g. i accidentally dropped it off a second story balcony without the extra silicone layer. survived with nothing cracked. but i would put that down to luck mostly.
if its only a drop from your hip, any cheapo tpu case will do. if its a drop from head height, then i'd go for the big brands.
i would avoid metal bumper cases though. whilst the rigidity of metal cases means they distribute the force fairly evenly around the case, the weakness is that metals also amplify vibrations which can increase the risk of damaging the internals.
i am confused
what is wrong with power button and screen protector in Otterbox Defender ?

Power button seems to stick because of the amount of material on it reported by some users. And the screen protector...this is what is making me go towards the commuter instead. The screen protector is not close enough to the real screen and there is a gap causing issues when touching the screen especially with pinch to zoom and for the spen. Also the screen protector has a cut out for the home button, which is ok but because of that gap I was talking about the cut out hole turns into a vacuum for dust when you press on the screen it suckings in junk. Not a big deal you would think, but that dust rubbing on the screen can possibly be abrasive and cause scratching over time also annoying. The big issue is usability with the screen protector and it seems like ot causes an issue. Fortunately if you really want the defender and you find the screen protector bothers you, you can push it out as it is held on by glue and can be pretty easily removed. A lot of people seem to do that.

Absolutely, apples and oranges. Not to mention that one of the "oranges" is not released yet. I mean, you can compare those cases for S3 line, but still it would be fare to wait until N2 version is released.
so , i decided to order Otterbox Defender and remove the screen
and use my own anti shock screen protractor
do you think it's wise move or i should wait for Urban Armor UAG or more votes ??
I think its wise. ull get more protection from the defender or commuter but more style with the uag.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
IMHO, wait until UAG is released and available on Amazon (assuming you are in US). Get Defender, Commuter, UAG, Ballistic, etc. at the same time. Play around with it, compare, feel it through, and then make a decision. Since UAG is not available yet, it might take a little bit longer for it to be available on Amazon after release on the their website (usually it goes discounted on Amazon). Again, this is just my humble opinion. Read and educate yourself on-line because you will learn details you wouldn't even pick up by looking at it yourself. Once you read plenty of reviews and watch enough YT videos, get your own hands'on experience and make sure you can return it back if not satisfied. Also, keep in mind, do you really need super-duper protection? Or just need an adequate protection? If you work on a factory floor or a contractor working on the roof, it's not even a choice and Defender is the only way to go. But if you are carrying it in the pocket, and/or want to take it with you when you go out - perhaps a thinner more stylish case is the way to go. Some people have insurance (from Best Buy or Square Trade or from service provider), and these people tend to go ultra slim with extra piece of mind knowing they won't have to pay $700 to replace it. By the same token, if you are paying $10 a month insurance and have $100-$200 deductible - perhaps investing in $50 case instead would be a smarter way to go. You got a lot of options. At the end of the day, make a choice based on your own judgment!!!
I would throw the casemate tough case in this mix. Just got one today and its awesome. I have a ballistic and an aegis and the tough case is whats staying on my phone. Will have pics and review for it tonight hopefully in the other thread I created.

The Otterbox Defender is definitely more rugged and tougher than the Casemate Tough. I wouldn't remove the screen protector on the Otterbox Defender, although the pressure sensitivity of the S-pen is highly questionable.

The defender is more rugged than most everything, if you dont mind a lunchbox around your phone. I was comparing it to the other cases mentioned. Since it had been said that they are in dif class of cases

Not sure witch to grab, I want a nice solid case but not something like the defender. I need something that offers nice protection but not by making it super bulky. The ones Im looking in are
the Seidio Active (love the Kickstand)
Otterbox Commuter (love the dust covers)
Urban Armor Gear
Ballistic SG
All are withing budget, Also do those cases block NFC from working?
I vote for UAG. It doesn't effect NFC and fits all of your criteria. If you can wait (they are extremely hard to come by) that is the best way to go. Just my 2 pence. CHEERS

I would recommend the UAG, fits perfectly and looks awesome! Also, I have tried the Otterbox Commuter case but I believe the UAG is better.... if this helps you at all.
Do any of those choices have a belt clip? Got to carry it some how.

I ordered both UAG and Trident Aegis case. I haven't received the UAG but I got the Trident yesterday and its awesome. I cant comment on UAG yet but this Trident case seems to be exactly what you are looking for. The dust covers arent as good as the commuter but they get the job done. It fits perfect and the buttons are easy to press but not too easy, just right. The case feels sturdy and offers decent drop protection. I might just end up selling the UAG case. We'll see how it stacks up when it gets here. You can get the Trident case for about $20 btw.

Aegis, I keep coming back to it.. its best of both worlds since it offers a decent amount of protection with a slim design (I cut off the bottom dust-cover so it fits in the Smart Dock now )
All right ordered a UAG case but dont think I'll get it before I go back to work, Since I work as a Bell Canada tech I need something solid and since I just learned that we are all getting Note 2 with a defender case in April, I need something else not as bulky, Will check the aegis and see how easy and fast I can get it in Canada, got 1.5 weeks before Vacation is over. Can some one post good pics of the aegis with phone in and out side by side, one that shows how much lip it has protecting the phone, please?
I'm looking for a new case for my Note 2 and I have been researching a bunch of options. I really like the feeling of the HTC One X+ (HTC calls it Carbon) and would prefer that feel in a case. Less rubber and more matte feel. I have seen a lot of glossy backs which offer no good slip from the hand protection for such a big phone. Another note to mention is I am not wanting a Barely there style case or anything too thick like a defender case. With that said, here is my list.
Otterbox Commuter
Aegis Trident
Seidio Surface with Kickstand (worried about the two piece wearing out)
Urban Armor Gear Navigator
Any suggestions or experience with any of these?

Take your time to read through my reviews: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192333
I wish it would be a sticky in this forum for people to find it easier...
Its actually probably better that its not a sticky. So many people just overlook those all together. Especially considering on the xda app the stickies are in a different tab.
I do however use your reviews quite frequently when looking for new accessories and will find it wherever they put it haha

I actually really like the Seidio Surface. I got one when i first got my note and I have tried other cases including the otter box commuter and with texture and bulk in my oppinion i really like the Surface.
if you want to have access to the battery and SD card slot, avoid otterbox and others that use multiple pieces. Change battery would be a hassle if you have otterbox.
Personally I bought the UAG, it offers one of the best protection, the best looking and you can swap out the battery easily.
I have the Trident and the Commuter. While I find the commuter to be adequately protected, I feel like they missed the mark on unnecessary bulk and one very slippery outer shell. The Trident on the other hand suits my needs for size and protection. I have less protection with the Trident, but it's not as bulky and better to hold. The UAG looks like my next buy, but some say it seems too wide.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda premium
I just got my UAG Navigator last week after my first one was stolen/disappered from my mailbox, but that's a whole other story. Anyway I love this case, it's not too bulky or wide while still adding the protection I need. I'm a part-time crafter so I made my own insert cuz I wasn't really liking the ones that were included. I think you'd be very happy with the UAG case. I have the otterbox defender which is good for some situations but not everyday use for me. I also have the Trident case, I like it but the hot pink is starting to turn like a gray-blackish color on the edges which makes the case look dirty to me. Plus the tabs for the usb and earphone connections don't always go back like they're suppose to. Don't really know how to describe it, maybe someone from the forum who has one of these cases can better describe what I'm trying to say. I give the UAG case a 10+!!

I got the UAG and it works great. The left side however is a little squeaky. Very subtle so it doesn't bother me.
Looking for a case that's:
1. Rugged (at least decent shock impact)
2. Somewhat slim
3. Not too pricey
So far I'm torn between:

And

Anyone know which case or of another have the best combination of shock impact without being too thick?
Thanks.

I have the case from the first link you posted. I've had no problems whatsoever thus far. The belt clip is really secure and the silicon not only covers the phone but it serves as a border around the screen so if you drop it the screen won't even touch the floor really. The case is decent too. Definitely worth $13.

It's not bulky. You can trust the reviews on amazon for the case. It's worth it especially for the price.
I have the otterbox defender series. Due to the design of the case, There's a bubble in the screen protector. I simply poped it out and replaced it with a zagg screen protector. Search ebay, I only spent $30. Still waterproof and my 3 kids literally throw my phone across the room and it's still in brand new condition

I almost went with the iBlason, but ended up going to Unicorn Beetle route. It's a nice case and I really like it. It's a tough TPU throughout with a polycarbonate slab on the back. Looks pretty nice and feels good in the hand--quality materials. The only thing is you have to shave the little inner button nubs off with a razor blade as the Amazon reviews mention.
Good luck deciding.

I own both, as well as just about every other case made for our phone...
I hate the i-Blason, and have since I took it out of the package. Nothing really wrong with it, just not my taste. Inner portion is too mushy, hard to slip it in and out of my pocket, and I don't think anyone would call it "thin".
For "thin and rugged" you are far better off with the SUPCASE. Also look at the TUDIA Ultra Slim Melody.
