[Q] GT-i9305 and 3G 1900MHz - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Hey!!
Can someone help me with a question? I live in Canada and I'd like to buy the GT-i9305. The biggest mobile carrier in here uses 850 MHz and 1900 MHz for 3G service, but just the 1900 MHz network has DC-HSPA+ with download speed up to 42Mbps. The 850 MHz network uses HSPA+ download speed up to 21Mbps. I'm pretty sure that i9305 does not has 3G 1900 MHz. And that's why I need your help!!!
Can someone try select WCDMA 1900 option into BAND SELECTION menu, please? To do this just dialing *#197328640# and then select UMTS -> Debug Screen -> Phone Control -> Network Control -> Band Selection -> WCDMA 1900.
But if you open the Band Selection menu and can't find or can't select WCDMA 1900 option on the list, that means the i9305 does not has support for 3G 1900 MHz. So, does i9305 has or not support for 3G 1900 MHz?
Thanks a lot!!

Hey self_slaughter AND Obagleyfreer,
Even if the option WCDMA 1900 appear on the list does not mean that i9305 supports 3G 1900MHz frenquency. To make sure you need to select WCDMA 1900 and again to confirm. Then you need go back to the previous screen. If you see a [*] after WCDMA 1900 the device has support. To return it as was before, just select AUTOMATIC on the "first" screen.
Hey highaltitude,
I just got your e-mail!! In your case, 100% sure that 3G AT&T won't work because there's no 3G 850MHz in your State (NC). You could ask AT&T if they have plans to build a 3G 850MHz network in your area. Or you could flash the GT-N7105 modem because it has support to 3G 1900MHz and I think both hardware are pretty much the same.

Ahh ok.. Well in that case I can chose anything on the screenshot I posted earlier except for 1800 and 1900.
I'm pretty sure we use 1800/1900 for lte here in Australia.

self_slaughter,
Now we know that i9305T has no support to 3G 1900Mhz... I'd like that someone who has the Hong Kong version would try the same thing, but I think the result would be the same... To bad for us from North America...

Where did you get the conclusion that I9305 does not support 1900 3g???
I select 1900 And I still have 3G
I am in Sydney Australia
Model: GT-I9305 Grey Titanium

Another version?

btemtd,
I concluded that based on the self_slaughter and highaltitude said ... In fact self_slaughter has the i9305T which is a Australian version sold by Telstra and he said he could not select WCDMA 1900 option (3G). We know there is another i9305 version which is sold by Optus / Virgin in Australia. Could your i9305 be a Optus / Virgin or even a Hong Kong version? Can you tell us the baseband number, please?
highaltitude,
If btemtd is right, we still have hope to bring 3G for your i9305!!!! ))))

Let me tell You Yes I did Buy this Off Optus. Outright.. No contract
So infact It is the I9305 ALL I9305 is the same,
Now I am using a Telstra SIm card tho.. And I just read your post again you say that you have to go back and see an * next to the 1900? Well Yeh when I go back I dont see an * next to the 1900.
Only for the 850, 900, 2100
But Maybe If I had an Optus Sim card Or a VOdafone Simcard I will be able to select 1900 do you know what I mean, Only way to test this is use my girlfreinds Vodafone simcard in my phone, and then try this again.
I know that Vodafone uses 1 different band to telstra not sure which one tho

Blame Samsung...

btemtd,
No matter which simcard you're using, if WCDMA 1900 had support the [*] would appear on the list, even the i9305 getting no signal... Unfortunately the australian version does not have support to 3G 1900 MHz... And do you know why I wanna buy a i9305? Bacause I hate those Blue and White versions!!! Here in Canada we do not have Sapphire Black or Titanium Grey and Samsung said it won't release!!!

Black is plain and ugly anyway.
Titanium is pure sex though

I still have hope that someone from Hong Kong or Europe would help and do the test too... I don't know why, but there's something about the Hong Kong and European version that gives me hope!!!

I wouldn't hope for Europe, here is no much 1900 Mhz (as far as I know) and like someone said, there is no different variations of international 'i9305' - all the i9305 are the same;
unless of course You have in Hong Kong the variation of i9300 like in US

I have the Hong Kong version just to clarify.
While we are discussing 3g data issues does anyone in the USA have a I9300 working with 3g?

I looked at a few different specifications sites and they show 1900 as being part of the 3G.. and it was australian site...
but they may be wrong. Funny thing is that I chose 850 900 and 2100 and I know that telstra has shutdown the 2100 band so then how come i still have reception when i put it on the 2100 band?
Are you sure about the network simcard difference? Because Different networks sometimes work on different bands
If its I9305 then no matter if you buy it from hong kong or Germany it will be the same because the model number is the same.
In australia we have the I9305T and the I9305 ......The I9305 is the most common one around the world there is also a I9305N i think sweden or something cant remember.
But yeh If the hardware is different then it would not be the same model number. Other wise it would be ridiculous.
I am assuming and I cannot see this being wrong. but i think ALL I9305 is the same hardware... I9305T Maybe different aswell as I9305N
because the reason they have model numbers is to determine what type of phone and specifications it is. So it would not make sense if 1 I9305 is diferent specifications to another I9305, If it is different then it would be a different model number like the I9305t & I9305N.... this is my guess

If its I9305 then Its the same model as any other country with I9305. Hong Kong doesnt make a difference its the model number.. So far there are three types I have seen
I9305T I9305 & I9305N
All though the I9305T is Predominantly in australia as I thought, I also have seen I9305T in brazil I saw it on the Samsung-updates site... firmware was released for I9305T and the region was brazil

agree, but 'I9305T Maybe' - not 'maybe' but 'granted', no one differ the device without the reason;
http://www.morecellphone.com/compar...i9305t-vs-samsung-galaxy-s-iii-gt-i9305/46057
if this is correct, then LTE frequences are diffrent:
"LTE 1800/2600" vs "LTE 800/1800/2600"

I dont beleive this site It says the I9305T is 2 grams heavier and it also says these have FM radio with RDS..
Many many sites are incorrect its very stupid I dont know why these people put up info when they are not 100% sure of it

Maybe they used really heavy paint when they put the Telstra logo on it?
I'm pretty sure the 9305T does have something different to do with frequencies though.
Probably to accommodate Telstras nextg network and whatever black magic they use. No idea on specifics though.
Note: I just remember reading something about frequencies but it may all be horse **** as mentioned above lol.

LOL
The only thing that is rumoured to be different is probably 1 less Frequency for LTE As its not needed for telstra. But Like I said I am on I9305 with a Telstra SIM.. And 4G Flys and everything else is fine.
But I would rather have More frequencies to be honest, more future proof... And I do not like having Cariier Logos on my phone which is why I chose to get the Outright contract free phone from an optus dealer.... I was with vodafone which worked fine on this phone but no 4G and I just ported my sim to telstra Pre-paid which i bought for 2 dollars. I put $30 credit and i swear to god i could not use all the credit before the month was over I was like DAMMM thats good

How do i know which version of nexus one i have?

Hey there,
I recently had a htc desire, i loved it. However, i will be living in panama for a while, and it wouldnt be so sweet to only have edge as they run 3g on the 850 band.
reading on this page there seems to be 2 versions of the nexus one. one with quad band and one with tri band..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nexus_One
Is there a way to know what is in my phone if i am holding one i am potentially buying?
It seems the developer version on sale now is tri band sadly.. so i cannot buy a new one..
They're both quad band GSM for voice and data up to Edge. The difference is for 3G data. AT&T and T-Mobile use different 3G frequencies.

Easier to just copy and paste the info then have the OP go to another site.
Pull the battery and look for the PB # which is located just below the IMEI, S/N, and P/N #’s. You should see one of two PB numbers:
PB99110: 850 MHz, 1900 MHz, and 2100 MHz such as AT&T in the US and Rogers Wireless in Canada
PB99100: 900 MHz, AWS, 1700 and 2100 MHz such as T-Mobile US and Vodafone in Europe

[HELP] UMTS Problem / Define UMTS Frequency

Hi everyone,
Im with a huge problema with the Frequency of my UMTS,
When i dial to *#*# 4636 #*#* and get to system information/configurarion
there is an option to select the Band of GMS/UMTS
Automatic
EURO Band
USA Band
JAPAN Band
AUS Band
AUS2 Band
and if i select any of there the phone return Fail when i try to set any on these.
And i think because of that my phone cant connect at 3G and only to EDGE.
Any one knows how to fix that? Maybe a reflash of original rom?
I realize it's an old post...but same here. Anyone else?
@geraldoff
If you're on T-Mobile USA like me, and if your phone doesn't support BOTH 1700 & 2100 MHz, you may only get 2G.

1.) the LTE Frequencies vary from country to country...
From HTC:
EU: 800/1800/2600 MHz
US (AT&T): 700/850/AWS/1900 MHz
US (TMO): 700/AWS MHz
US (Sprint): 1900 MHz
Asia: 1800/2600 Mhz

Now comes the great news.. as far as I know Rogers uses 2600 MHz . so EU Version from the UK WILL work!
99% confident
EDIT:
Maybe this Thread can be moved to Q/A
Rogers should have the phone next Friday....given that is when the pre-order offer ends
the one that available now, only has one band that matches rogers LTE band :2600
as far as i know and read from XperiaZ forum, (c6603 XperiaZ has almost same LTE band as ONE)
no one are able to get LTE.
if you need LTE. get it from your provider.

XZ won't connect via HSDPA

Hello everyone! I've searched the forum, didn't find anything similar so I' m posting here. So, got stock XZ C6603, T- mobile, .350 version (no updates yet) and it won't connet via HSDPA, I have wcdma activated but all i get is 3G(+) icon, no H(+), and the download speed is around 2Mbps. On my HTC DHD i can go up to 8Mbps with no problem. I have no signal/reception problems ( full bars). Also, wifi signal is weak but that's another issue, just mentioning it... Anyone knows how to fix this or having the same problem?
Did you try this?

I would imagine that the phone has selected the wrong apn when it first searched for networks.
I would recommend to force a manual search and manual selection.
Settings, more, mobile networks. Check Network mode is lte, even though you are after 3G. Then select mobile operators, it will scan and list all the networks it can see, find the 3g network and select it, make sure the tick remains after you click it.

I did do that, the 3G was already selected... if I make an update myself will I lose the warranty? I tried to replace my.device, they told me it needs to be send to service for inspection and if the device is faulty i'll get a new one. Will keep you updated, don't like how things started with my XZ.
bands
Maybe, because the HSDPA in T mobile are in the bands 1700 and 2100, just like the 3G, and the Xperia Z model c6603 uses bands 850/900/1700 only!!! the C6602 model uses the same bands plus /1900/2100 so, if you miss one band in T mobile you will never have the HSDPA speed, no matter the firmware, because is hardware,no software, you can see the bands that t Mobile uses here http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-4988 and you can see what bands uses the Xperia Z C6603 here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Xperia_Z

I don't believe that would be the issue since I had no problems with the HTC DHD which suports only HSDPA 900 / 2100, and according to GSMARENA the C6603 supports HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100...
I went to Tmobile today, tested my micro sim, put it in another phone (got the H+ icon), but the speed was the same as on my XZ. Put it in another C6603 and I noticed that it also lacks the "H+" icon, so what they told me is that 3G+ actually means it connects with HSDPA. So is that normal not to have "H+" icon showing in the signal strength bars?

well, according to T mobile
Depending on where a tower is at in the 4G life cycle, theoretical maximum download speeds range from 21 Mbps – 42 Mbps.
T-Mobile's HSPA+ network operates on the same band as our 3G network, Band IV, which uses 1700 MHz and 2100 MHz frequencies to transmit voice and data services. The 1700 MHz frequency sends information to cell sites and the 2100 MHz frequency receives information.
As with our 3G network, both 1700 MHz frequency and 2100 MHz frequency are required for a device to function. If a device only has one of these frequencies, it cannot use T-Mobile’s 3G and 4G networks.
T-Mobile is switching some 1900 MHz frequency from EDGE to HSPA+. This will allow devices that work on 1900 MHz, such as AT&T devices, to use our 4G network.
and yes,the Xperia z uses UMTS HSPA+ Bands 1, 3, 5, 8 which are
1 for 2100, 3 for 1800, 5 for 850 and 8 for 900
This info is according to Sony Official Page www.sonymobile.com, so as you can see you are missing one band, the 1700

I don't believe that would be the issue since I had no problems with the HTC DHD which suports only HSDPA 900 / 2100, and according to GSMARENA the C6603 supports HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100...

It doesn't matter what phones you have previously tested with. If your phone does not support the bands your operator uses then it ain't going to work. You can be sure the GSMArena is wrong with many specs on phones, especially HTC phones because HTC makes so many varients it is almost impossible to track or show. If you purchased this HTC phone in the US you can be sure that is supports US networks.
Exactly as stated above, if you do not have 1700 & 2100Mhz for T-Mobile then you will only get 2G

C5306 - No 3G/LTE on T-Mobile

I live in Sacramento, CA and it's supposedly a refarmed city, meaning it uses 1900Mhz spectrum on T-Mobile for 3G. So I bought a C5306 for my wife, however the 3G isn't working, all we get is EDGE. Naturally I thought I'd at least get LTE, since it's advertised as an LTE phone but I'm not getting that either, even though we have LTE in my area. What's the deal? Has anyone else had this issue? In the phone settings I have it setup to receive LTE/GSM/WCDMA in that order but it doesn't seem to help.
The 5306 claims to have the right bands...
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
LTE 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100
I'm calling lies on either Sony or T-Mobile...

It's a 5306. Otherwise it wouldn't have LTE listed in the baseband options when you type *#*#4636#*#*
EDIT - I take that back, I guess the 5303 does also have LTE, but different bands. God I hope it's not a 5303, how can you tell? Different ROMs come from different bases and depending on the ROM you install it'll say 5306 or 5303. The stock ROM that came installed on it said 5306, but I installed another custom one and it now says 5303, ugh.
Holy ****, not only do I have the wrong phone, I think I was defrauded in the process. This is a 5303 that was sold as a 5306. The seller just flashed 5306 firmware on top to make it look like a 5306. The picture below shows that it has the 5303 bands (1,3,5,7,8,20) and not the 5306 ones (1,2,4,5).
Does it say C5303 at Model Info? Or on the Box? If yes get your bud to the store

It says whatever firmware you put on it. The C5303 and C5306 firmware are interchangeable. Hence why I think they can sell them as "C5306" phones. This was on ebay, by the way. The only way you can tell is to look at what bands the phone supports, which I did above, you do that by typing *#*#7378423#*#* in the dialer and then going to Configuration in the Service Menu.
i have a c5306 i checked the bands. Anyways i am using it on att and i get h+ but no lte any ideas?
