Which ROM are you currently using? If it's cyanogenMOD than you should know that it doesn't have that feature at all.

im on slim..just want to know if when going back to ics if i do it like i flash any rom? (with recovry) or do i need to reflash threw odin?

I just did this to test something, lost everything including internal sd card. I believe it had to do with the partition differences between ics and jb. Had access to recovery but had to buy an external sd card as the phone wouldn't boot and was seen as an unknown device in xp so using odin was out of the question. Got an ics rom on the external sd and flashed via recovery but said something about the encryption process was interrupted and everything needed to be wiped. Hope this helps some but backup what you need before flashing.

First flash your mobile with 3-file stock gingerbread firmware using odin... then flash a custom rooted kernel using odin again... later you can install cm9 from recovery in cwm...

newbie..flashed to Cog 2.7, wifi stopped working, any good rom?

Hi, my first post..
so i read some and rooted my captivate, flashed it to Cognition 2.3b7 and since then my wifi stopped working...
I am guessing I can flash with another ROM ?
and don't have to go back to stock build??
if so which rom should I go with? I like the Gingerbread look and feel but open to try others...this phone is new and I don't have to worry about files/information yet.
thanks for your help
First, welcome to XDA, but...wrong section, this belongs in Q&A not development.
Mods please move.
You want to flash stock using odin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
Don't try to flash another rom directly on top, you will compound the problem.
Have you tried reboot on your phone
If you are lost you can pm me

thanks mcord. so if I go back to stock do I have to root again?
also please let me know which rom to use to flash..I read Assonance 5.0 might be good?

You should have an update zip on your sd from rom manager/clockwork. Take this fille, and save it to your pc, our external sd. When you are on stock put it back on your internal sd, boot into recovery, reinstall packages twice, you will have clockwork recovery. Youcan flash roms from here without root.
I am not sure your problem was from cognition, maybe a bad flash. I am using assonance, so far so good but I have not been on it for long, axura is nice as well.
I would also suggest that you do a master clear after odin, make sure you are not keeping any troubled files. Make sure you backup anything you do not want erased to your oc or external sd
Remove sim and external sd before odin, master clear, or rom flash. Suggested not to flash roms with usb plugged in. always best to flash with full bat
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Well, If you are going to flash trough CWM then no, you dont need to root again because you dont need to root to use CWM. Just make sure you keep the CWM update.zip on your sdcard boot into recovery and choose reinstall packages and you will boot into CWM.
And about the ROM. Well, you could try Cognition2.3b6, Perception8 or Assonance. I heard Cog has better battery life than Perc but Perc is faster, also the main diference is that Perc is based on i9000 ROM and Cog is based on Captivate ROM. I really dont know anything about Assonance escept that people say it's good.
If you are looking for another ROM, consider Assonance: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=856877

Hi guys. First post so hope I don't look like an idiot!
Flashed Cognition v2.3b6 2 weeks ago but had to go back to stock 2.1 jh6 reason being while @ home I can connect to my protected wifi network with no problem but if I try to
use an open wifi network say at Denny's or an AT&T hotspot my wifi just loops and no hook up! {N/G} Have to switch back to 3G to get to on the net. After flash back to stock no wifi problems anywhere. Yesterday, 12/22/2010, flash to new Cognition v2.3b8. After flash went to Denny's and wifi N/G! Am I alone here or is anyone else having this problem? Flashed back to stock and today did Kies mini update to jh7, AOK! Went back to Denny's and had no problems connecting to wifi??????????????????

Need advice on how to completely reset/clean/unroot my KL7 Note

I am getting lag lately and KL7 upgrade didn't sort it so I think something is messed up.
As with computer I think the easiest way is to backup apps + settings + custom files + SMS and delete everything.
Now as this is the first time on an Android device what steps do you (please) suggest me to follow without going to brick my Note?
My device is rooted and I have Titanium (if needed).

When it comes to backup you can always use titanium backup and stuff or if its just the apps you are looking at then you can back them up @ Google Server itself.
Un-rooting your device please follow the steps here -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
Now when it comes to clean/reset of your device you can by two methods:
1. Go to Settings-->Privacy-->Factory Data Reset
2. Dial *2767*3855# (Note: This will erase your Storage card too.. Everything will be back to factory)
PS: Its a bit strange because KL7 is virtually lag free.
Hope this helps.

In fact I was having it already since a couple of weeks with KK9 (up since day 1) and when I upgraded to KL9 that was the proof it's not a firmware lag issue.
Thanks mate, your help is appreciated.

Your Welcome
I meant internal SD card. External SD card is not an issue since you can always pop it out before the wipe.
I would suggest you do a complete wipe. Reflash the ROM/Kernel etc (dont OC or experiment too much) and monitor things. As of now KL8 is up ;maybe you can give that a shot.
Cheers

Wow that was quick!
Maybe Samsung itself had to hurry at fixing all the bugs we have encountered.
Hmm going to try the new firmware before the complete wipe then.
Thanks again.
Hi there,
trying to unroot my Note with KKA kernel. I know I have to place the zImage of the KKA kernel in the zImage folder...thing is, where do I find the original kernel? Is it the zImage that I downloaded when rooting and CWM'ing my Note (the KKA file I got from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360)
Reason why I'm trying to get back to the original kernel is that I want to use Rom Manager as it's refusing to let me do anything as long as I don't have ClockworkMod Recovery installed. I do have that installed, but apparently not the one Rom Manager wants to use. I used Rom Manager on my Nexus S and it was nice to use and easy to try out different Roms so I'd like to use it on the Note as well.
I have CWM Manager 3.0 installed and it looks quite the same as Rom Manager except that it hasn't got the Download Rom/check for new updates feature. Or is it just that Rom Manager isn't compatible (yet) with the Note? Or is there a way to make Rom Manager believe that I have the correct CMR installed?
When thinking about it...I think I have the original kernel installed, but that that's not the reason why Rom Manager doesn't let me use it.
Thanks,
Dimitri
Problem solved meanwhile.

ICS to sense 3.5 (READ)

I don't like ICS on my vivid i was going to put HoliRaider on my phone. But I have some questions, Do I just install the Rom over my ICS or do I need to uninstall it and then install holiraider. I just need to know the steps, or what to do.
Please help me
You can just CWM it on top of your current ICS setup. Remember to wipe data and cache after install.
Are you sure?
And if I do just put it on top of ICS can I download it on my phone and install it, then export it to my ad card or will I have to put it on my sd card from the computer?
You should be able to. HBOOTs are backwards compatible.
You do need to fastboot-flash the appropriate boot.img on your computer.
Put the ROM on your external SD, somehow.
Ok so what Rom would you recommend? Besides ICS

Honestly, I'm a fan of stock debloated ROMs when it comes to HTC Sense. If you want the top of the line with respect to GB-based ROMs, go with HoliRaider. It's by far and away the best available. Plus, not built on putrid ATT base or themed with ATT's faux-G rubbish.
Thank you I really appropriate your help
be careful when you do that since now you have the ics radio, i had some issues when going back to gb, biggest problem is that i cant use the speaker phone because it keeps causing an echo and everyone i talk to keeps hearing themselves back many times. i didn't have that issue before i ran the ics ruu and i dont have that issue on the ics roms, i think that's the reason for that, can't think of anything else. if u downgrade, let me know what happens with u

[Q] Stuck in bootloop - What should I do?

Good evening guys!
So I'm stuck in a bootloop, and it doesn't look that I will come out of it. I'm running ROCKET ROM V22, and the Abyss3.9 kernel.
So what do you recomend me to do?
I'll now over the night keep my phone on, to try to get out of the bootloop. But I would need som advice what I shall do.
The problem is that the phone won't mount as a storage device in the computer. And I have no backup in my phone, only on the computer, so I can't restore it easy.
Help me! *said with panic on my voice*

Hi there,
Bootloops happen every now and then, if something collides or is misconfigured.
In my very own experience most boot loops happen to be script related.
This is why you should´t worry too much.
You still can enter CWM?
If so enter CWM and wipe completely (factory, cache, dalvik) and after that (NO REBOOT!!!) just reflash the ROM which just didn´t happen to work properly.
If it still is in boot loop there might be something wrong with the ROM.
> Rom is guarantied completet? No broken Download?
> Rom is really for the exact telephone model you got? (Galaxy S for example has several submodels which slightly differ from original)
In case you do not have a rooted device without CWM only thing you can do, is to begin from scratch by flashing an official ROM from Samsung via odin.
With that you should flash a kernel with CWM next time, cause it much easier to recover your device including you´ll keep all your private stuff.
Flashing the Samsung-Rom via odin will kill anything saved but the external SD.
hope this helps

Have done as you said, but still problems.
One of the problems maybe can be that it isn't CWM but RedPill.
Yes, I did download the whole file, so no strange abort of the download.
And this is the correct ROM for the Galaxy Note.
If I still have this problems in 24 hours I will contact my store and let them know what I think. I want my money back. I can also add that I'm studying law, so I let the lawbook speek for itself.
But thanks for a fast answer!
Well sad to hear that. Laws have to be different from those in germany
You´re obviously trying to flash inofficial stuff on your own. There is no way the shop could be made resposible for.
So take my advice and reflash official ROM before you return the device.
That will help enormously.
But before runnign too fast, try to give some more information to us here:
What ROM are you trying to flash?
What ROM is installed before trying to flash?
What Kernel is used to flash?
Are you using mobile Odin?
Try to answer questiones I just dind´t think of

The laws are maybe a little bit diffrent. For example, the first 6 months, the seller or shop needs to prove that the product was working when the sold it. Something that they have very hard to prove.
I'm trying to install the ROCKET ROM V22 for SGN.
I had the MidNote V2.0
The Abyss3.9 kernel (I think that it's the correct way of spelling it).
No, I'm not using mobile Odin.
Edit: Can I install a stocket ROM, with my phone in bootloop, and non mountin as a drive in the computer?

Quick google search shows boot loops are pretty well known with this rom.
No you only can flash original rom with odin.
If there are important data on the device connect it cia usb and boot into cwm.
Now wath what happens. If you´re lucky mass storage mode is enables in the kernel and you got your storage mounted automated.
If not it´s time to cross fingers and search for an option to mount by hand.
I´m completely new to NOTE - all my knowledge comes from my i9000 which is a mega active community compared to the one of the NOTE
There is have the choice between 5 different ICS kernels alone
Each one has it´s abilities, so does one have the option to mount storage by hand.
This option can be found in "advanced". Hope this menu option is present in your rom
good luck!

Yeah you can. Just go to this thread. Get a rootable rom downloaded. Just follow the instructions to the word of how to flash via odin. And you will have stock rom. And you can again root and install custom rom!! No need to run back to store !

Midnote 2, as in ICS Midnote? You couldn't have been on AbyssNote 3.9, because it's a gingerbread kernel.
Perhaps it was Angelom's stock ICS rooted kernel?
Or did you flash AbyssNote 3.9 from Recovery, trying to go back to GB?

You have me utterly confused here...What is the latest rom you were on before this bootloop? Midnote 2 or RR 22?
If Midnote 2 (ICS) with Angelom's kernel, and you did a factory reset at some point, there's hardly anything you can do except take your phone to Samsung service. If you had CF--Root ICS kernel, then try to follow this little set of instructions:

So i got a samsung galaxy ace, it's rooted and with b84 CF-Root kernel.
1) The thing is sometimes, I press Wi-Fi button or Bluetooth, and in the Wifi it says Error and on bluetooth just won't conect. I don't know what the problem is, and the only solution is to reboot the phone. Is this a problem? Can it be fixed? If It can, how? If not, please read point number 2.
2) If its not fixable, what ROM you advice me to reinstall? I have s5830XWKS2, some people say the DDxxx8(or something like that) is better don't know why I'm no programmer...
2.1) If I really have to have to reinstall it in order to fix it, how can I do it? Can you point out the thread for it?
3) I run a small business, and I use Tasker for all my stuff. together with other 60+ apps I need to keep, i'm using SD card with ext partition with Link2SD. And the thing i'm most afraid of, is loosing all the data. I came from a Nokia 5800XM, and I flashed it some times, backups are easy to do. Now here on Android becomes a bit complicated. Maybe never someone cleared me enough about it. So what can I do to sucessfully restore all data on the new ROM? I got Titanium backups, and CWM..Will that backup even my dictionary saved words?
4) Thanks, and please, again, make notice that I can't loose anything due to my business, but I can't work with phone needing to reboot at random times cause of wifi or bluetooh beeing bricked.
First of all. There is no such things as urgent situation here. You should remember that.
Second thing. You should post questions in Q&A sub-section. General is for sharing and discussions.
Third thing. There is a adb logcat thingie, which allows to understand a root of your problem more than 'Help me. Something doesn't work'
I remain this thread open but move to correct section.

Yes I experienced the same problem, could be software bugs problem so I think you can reinstall your software for the better.
I prefer cm mod7/8 for ace as it is much faster so you can try Google cyanogenmod for ace. They have all the tutorial you need.
As for your Apps, titanium backup will do fine. Its the best backup so far. Your dictionary words is the default system one? I recommend you smart keyboard pro as it has the function to backup all your words
So in short, backup your EVERYTHING with titanium backup, rmb your contacts too, and install cyannogen mod 7 or 8 whichever you prefer! Hope this helps!

There's no such thing as cyanogen mod 8...only unofficial cm 7.1 kang and official cm 7.2...
Nunopitbull, wifi & bluetooth problems that you experience are caused by the kernel, not the firmware or rom...so my suggestion is to use a kernel that is not based on cf root or use a stock kernel (the one that came with your phone)...just root your phone with the update zip method will do, and for cwm flash the zip for it...the newest version for sga is 5.0.2.6...there's no need to flash a custom kernel...
About cwm backups, it backups your whole system and data partition and also your boot.img (kernel related)...so yes, it is quite safe to say that your whole phone is backup-ed...but keep in mind that stock roms use .rfs format for the partitions...new custom roms use .ext4 format...so to flash a backup of a stock rom, first flash a fresh stock firmware with ODIN and the cooper.pit file...then re-root and re-flash cwm to restore your phone...
And fyi, link2sd uses a second partition right? The apps inside the second partition can be relinked if you reset the phone...as long as you don't format the second partition...but personally I suggest you to use DTa2sd or amarulzz script as it saves more internal space...check it out...
Hope that all the above helps...
So you're saying my problem of wi-fi/bluetooth is because of kernel? Can you help me by PM how to get it working again? I wanted a custom kernel don't remember already why, but I think was for the custom speeds of CPU, so I could have low ones..
Just want this bug to disapear of bluetooth and wifi!

To get a stock kernel, just flash a stock firmware via ODIN...but you will have to re-root and re-flash cwm...any stock kernel will do, as long as it is with the firmware you flashed...

Try flashing a new kernel, this is NOT a rom issue, just a kernel issue.
