Voodoo OTA Root keeper.
(I'm trying to find steps too!)

I did the Voodoo OTA and still lost root

If u follow the instructions perfectly it should work.
Sent from my MotoAHD

I did, they were, root was still lost despite Voodoo telling me other wise. I'm going to play with adb and see what I find. Not everyone who has it fail, had it happen because they did not follow directions.

Can anyone link the instructions to do it properly.
Sent from my Motorola Atrix HD MB886

i did it properly and voodoo said it was still rooted, all the boxes were checked, but when i run a root app it crashes.. so no root.

If voodoo says you are still rooted, then you only lost partial root. The problem is with su binary file. There is a possibility of regaining root. Check out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2048005 for a possible way of fixing root

Thread moved. Please post questions here in Q&A where they belong.

There are no long steps. Most of the roms keep you root after installing them, but just in case if you dont have root after installing a rom, just use Universal Androot because it's very easy and it's one click root(happens very fast).
I've already rooted using universal androot

All of the AOSP based ROMs (like CM) give you root automatically.
The issue you have is that you need a custom recovery in order to install the ROMs. These custom recoveries (OpenRecovery and drivatives) will allow you to do all sorts of neat stuff.
So, no...you don't need to re-root once you install CM7.
Actually, how do you lose root?
It's happened a couple of times that I run Titanium backup and it tells me that I'm not rooted.
It's an easy fix. I just goto AOR and do it again.
But I'm just curious as to how I can get unrooted like that.
But do we need to root for open recovery to install?

No root is necessary on a milestone (may be different on droid).
You just need to flash the vulnerable recovery and the install OR.

On most phone, root is necessary to install custom or vulnerable recoveries.
On milestone, there is no need to do this as this step is taken care of by the SBF flashing in RSD.

Maybe a video is easier. But i have been linking folks to that thread for a while and this is the first complaint i have heard. Good enough for hundreds of ppl...

You wrote that root isn't necessary to install custom rom but the threes says otherwise. Please have a look and tell me

That link doesn't work.
Anyway, I remember that I did not have to root the phone.
The first step was applying the vulnerable sbf.
Then I was able to load androidiani openrecovery.
Once in open recovery, I could apply a ROM without root.
Heck, I think root is just an afterthought during this process.
Root is just another menu item in AOR.... the hard part was getting into AOR in the first place.
For whatever mysterious reason, I lost root a couple of times over the last couple of weeks.
CM6 didn't stop working. Titanium backup did stop working but it was nice enough to tell me that I was no longer rooted.
No big deal. I just went into AOR and rooted again.
Edit: No wonder I had deja vu... I kinda mentioned that last bit on page 1 already...
Yeah for some strange reason the link isn't working I'll try and fix it if possible

Unlockroot.com Rootp

I used the root tool at unlockroot.com. I am fairly new to this. I couldnt get the root to work using the zergrush exploit for my specific firmware. I was granted superuser access so I am assuming it went well. I guess my main question is how do I manage/add roms to my N7000? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

This program doesn't work on the last couple versions of 2.3.6, the exploit was patched.
I don't see anyone really trying to find exploits in GB with ICS right around the corner
So does that mean that the root didn't work? I have super user access. I need a good way to manage rooms. Maybe I should just revert it back and wait on ics?

Check once your superuser access by installing any app that requires it like Titanium Backup. If everything is fine you should also be having CWM in ur apps and if u dont have it then flash the CF kernel specific to your firmware from this thread- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
After you are done with all the check then you can go hunting for the available roms on GB and leaked ICS in this forum - http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1349
Read the posts....and the features u get in each rom and flash the one you like
Explore and make the best out of your already awesome Note!
Thanks! That helped a lot. I ended up rooting with galaxynoteroot.com instructions and I am running criskelo ics rom now and its great.

Any help to root the leaked ICS ROM

I was trying to connect my D4 with the leaked ICS ROM though adb
but after typing adb shell, it keep telling my device was offline
if i can connect the device, is it possible to push the busybox, su, etc to /system/xbin and enabling the root privilege?
Can't help you with actually rooting the build (sorry), but I have seen other threads that seem to indicate that if you reinstall your drivers the problem should resolve itself...
Where is the leaked rom?

no luck anyone? i really want root back.....I love everything about this update i just want my root back please!!!!!
I can point you in the right direction. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1467598 I think if we knew the correct hex values to change in the .bat we might be able to get root.
It seems the problem i face now is i cannot push the files to the phone as permission denied.....or device offline....i actually could even push su to /data/local
which render other commands useless.....
Per p3droid twitter:
@P3Droid R U A Moto fan, then this is exciting news, @djrbliss just created a new universal root for the new 4.0.4 leaks.

The last posts I saw from him said it's not posted yet. He posted it's been tested on the D4 as well. So it shouldn't be much longer.

pimpsalot69: He was referring to getting it installed, not getting root. Unfortunately, if you lost root during the upgrade process (like I did) there isn't currently a way to restore it. You'll have to wait for a new method to be released.

I thought the GSM patch is automatically enabled on the ICS ROM? All you have to do is put in your foreign SIM card and you should be ready to go.

It doesn't seem to work - I put in the foreign SIM and can make and receive calls without an issue. But no 3G data available (and I have set all the data roaming, etc. on in settings). If I had root access, then I could try to flash that rom to see if it worked. I'm in South Africa on the Vodacom network (3G).

Superuser

How do i get superuser to grant me permission? I just downloaded Safestrap ICS v2.11 .apk and can't installed it. I keep getting message saying "Safestrap has been denied Superuser permission".
Someone please help me so I can start enjoying ICS ROMS!
Thanks very much!
I think I made a mistake.... am I suppose to unroot my phone completely before going to ICS? I didn't unroot I just flashed ICS .232 over .905.
Someone please let me know where I went wrong.
Might have to root phone again is my thought.
