screen protector. Yay or Nay? - Nexus 10 Accessories

So I'm just wondering how is everyone using their tablets.
Screen protector or no or are you using an alternative method like crystalusion.
Pros of a naked screen:
Better screen display quality.
the true naked feel
Cons of no screen protector:
risk of scratches
constantly wiping fingerprints.
what is the community doing now, let's collect few response and try to put them in one place.

Will be putting a Ghost Armor (screen only) on this week when it comes in, got a kiosk in Calgary to order it in.

I put the SGP screen protector on and I like it. I don't notice a drop in quality at all as it's not a matte protector. With that said fingerprints are just as bad as the naked screen.

Naked But Crystalusion does sound very interesting...
Edit: It sounds really interesting actually I almost want to buy it and just put it all over my entire Nexus 10, but would it affect the grip-ability of the back too much?

to be honest, i can't go on with an unprotected device, like yourself i just read about this crystalusion for the first time ever and it does sound pretty amazing, could anybody who's used this liquid glass please care to share their input about it please?

It seems to be about $21 to order it ($18 off ebay); seems like a 1-pack-1-device kind of thing though... (I have quite a few things I'd love to use it on, but can't really spend around $20 per device though)
I emailed the manufacturer of Crystalusion about my concern with the rubber back grip; hopefully they respond with something positive though

I've tried protectors before and they all seem to stink. They feel like rubber or take scratches poorly and dirt builds up around their edges.
My Galaxy S3 and my Asus TF201 never got a scratch. My TF201 did shatter but no screen protector was going to stop that.

I've never been a fan of Ghost Armor - they've always been super rubbery in texture which is a huge turn off.

Thank for the heads up on the thread, after reading I feel less appealed to Crystalusion, best keep it simple with screen protectors.

naked...gorilla glass 2.
I will put a case on, but I'm not concerned about the glass. Having owned other gorilla glass products I've never had a scratch..

Crystalusion sounds interesting, but I'll say it again that we need that self-healing stuff. Anyone have any idea about if/when we might see self-healing coatings?

Here's some questions I emailed to Crystalusion and the responses I got:
Q: My main concerns are how the liquid glass might affect the grip-ability of the Nexus 10 backing with it being rubber.
A: Even though it can be applied on the rubber and would not damage it in anyway. Crystalusion specifically has been designed to treat hard surfaces and therefore in your case would be better suited to protecting your screen. I say your case since it can be applied to the back of devices like the iphone etc...
Q: Another concern is how the liquid glass might affect speaker grills and the very tiny gaps between where the screen and sides meet, and for the buttons (volume and power). Ports are also a slight concern, and the bottom of the Nexus 10 also has an area for POGO pins.
A: We have solved this problem with our application method. Crystalusion comes in a pre-coated micro fibre cloth to specifically avoid the problem you are talking about. Even though the liquid itself wouldn't damage the inside parts of your device.
Q: Would the liquid glass prevent contact on the POGO pin area?
A: No this would not happen.
We have several customers who have applied Crystalusion to their tablets however I am not sure whether these have been Nexus 10s... Also just to let you know as a raw chemical Liquid Glass ranks higher in strength than guerilla glass does, and with Crystalusion specifically the main benefits being it is anti-bacterial as well as being an award winning nano-technology in addition to other features such as anti-abrasion.

My vote is nay. Get a good case. The screen is gorilla glass and pretty tough. If the case does not protect the screen, I doubt a screen protector will

fair enough. I wonder when will those smart cases come out.

How stupid can one be to not cut away the top right corner flap and use the original protector without hindering the experience?

Although economical, the plastic screen that comes with the nexus 10 probably won't protect against scratches. But it could work if you're careful

Well I haven't had any other screen protectors apart from this one so I can't give a comparison on the smoothness.
I never put one on the screen since I hate screen protectors, but I only used the for the back
And used the screen one for other devices.
Anyway I don't think you should use a screen protector with the gn2 since there is the spen. I don't know if that is good for the wacom digitizer!
yeah i saw the Manual thingy :/
But you know for a 750$ gadget you are better safe than sorry
Any of these screen protector will damage your pen. So do yourselves a favor and go on ebay and buy a pack of those cheap plastic 3 layer protectors. I buy them in packs of 5 or 10 and they're cheap and I only change them maybe once every year or 6 months because I never scratch my phone. But regardless the screen protector is smooth, so no damage to the pen or the phone. And no liquid either. So all is good there. But these invisible shield screen protectors are good for backs and sides!

2 screen protectors for $2.50, no complaints! If nothing else, they'll hold me over until I get a glas.t. Best-case scenario, I end up liking them, and they don't interfere with the S Pen.
Ordered some of these a few months ago and they made the screen all grippy and un-smooth, did not like...

Actually, they are currently on sale. 4 full body packs only cost $5 right now. I only bought 2 full body packs and spent only $2.50 with the 75off2 coupon code (thanks op!). anyone got their's yet? curious to see if these really affects the spen functionality
Used a similar product with my Note 1 and I can confirm it had no effect on the S-pen.
My only grudge with it is that it takes ages to apply and the corners eventually peel off after a few months (I keep trimming them back lol).
Great protection against scratches though and adds nothing to bulk/weight.
I also like the rubbery/grippy feel it adds too

They are probably referring to the screen protector that has a patented sand-paper type coating, that has been specifically designed to weather down the S-pen during use and provide maximum obscurity of the screen. This will then allow you to become frustrated at the S-pen's inability to withstand such stupid abuse.

Exactly. I had a tablet, made by Compaq HP, and it had a stylus (a stylus I still use today because it's just fantastic) and I got an Invisible Shield for it, and it was SO HARD to write smoothly because it was so tacky on the screen I had to take it off since i got the tablet to be used as a writing tablet! So I don't use those anymore on my touch screen devices.

Have you emailed any of the company's and asked if they're making a glass screen protector for the Flex? You could put the email in here maybe so we all can pester them. lol I've never had one but my friend loves them too.
I contacted Nilkin, a Japanese company who made one for the one max, but haven't heard back yet.
I am not sure that anyone can/will make one, since it might be really difficult to get glass to adhere to a curved screen..

Ok. That makes sense. lol Darn. Thanks
I think its still too early to assume there wont be any. What most of these accessory companies do now, is wait and see how popular a new phone becomes, before they bother to make anything for it.
Assuming this phone becomes really popular in the next month or so, I think there will be alot more "stuff" for it.
Its really only been out a month or so in the USA..
I'm kind of surprised what's out in stores already. I remember some stores wouldn't get cases for a month after the phone was out.
I got a Skinomi screen guard from Amazon. It Is the nicest protector I've ever used (and I've tried a lot of them). Crystal clear and virtually no orange peel effect. I only bought the screen protector as I'm using a case. I can definitely believe that the corners would peel up on a full body protector. I've experienced that every time I ever used one of those. It was fairly easy to install but try do it somewhere where there's no dust as these are very staticy and instantly attract dust, pet hair, etc. ( I put mine on in the bathroom ) Skinomi's website had a link for a YouTube video with installation instructions.

Cases! Screen protectors! OR Naked!!!

Having bought my first note and seeing as it's a pretty looking thing I was dubious about getting a case, not only because it'd ruin the aesthetics of the device but it'd make it even bigger.
That being said I did find some which keep some of the aesthetics and provide some decent protection.

£1.29 Pack of five bog standard screen protectors, for some reason the p+p is £1.95p ?? Meaning you pay more to get it to you than you do to buy it? Strange people.
Anyway, this is all next day delivery so i'll pop a screen shot on to show what they're like.
What cases are you guys using? Should I have got something else?
I wonder if HunterF will be doing one for the Note 4, that'd be the one i'd want over all.

Definitely. I have both and my ip6+ screen scratched from top but nothing
Happened to note4. Both devices are in seperate pockets with nothing else. Therefore what i say is definitely true in my case.
I wish I had the bold confidence of anyone that dares to go bare with this phone. I'm not taking any chances, I have a screen protector(just a cheap plastic one for now till they sort out the glass designs) and a Tech 21 case on it.
At the moment i'm awaiting my protection, I simply don't have the balls to go without, if I had to I could buy another one but I'd rather not.
Plus the case's i've picked look decent, obviously not as good as without but I'll bet it bounces better should I drop it.

Yeah, its only an $800 phone that costs a lot to fix if you drop it & shatter the screen. How silly for anyone to want to protect their expensive items from wear and damage
Overkill or not, I think it's much wiser to get a nice-looking case & a screen protector than let your expensive phone get all dinged up and look like s**t, but to each their own I guess.

If he's got money to blow then fair enough, sure I could buy another too but I'd prefer not to throw money away either.
I found with the Ringke Slim case I got scratches on the aluminium edges. Not sure if it was the phone or the case. I am now considering getting a new case but am not sure.
The neo hybrid scratched my bezel a little but, due to it being slightly loose on the edges, I have a ice Uag fits tight as hell, which you would think removing an applying it would scratch the bezel but no, no new scratches since I got the Uag case regardless of how tight the case fits. And I mean TIGHT.
Also any tempered glass screen protector that fits this new screen, without the halo effect by some of the more known and expensive brands, fit like ass.
I wonder if HunterF will be doing one for the Note 4, that'd be the one i'd want over all.[/QUOTE]
Wow that's extremely nice. I like the the UAG cases also. But I don't have any right now. Using it with just a screen protector. I always seem to run caseless at some point with every phone I've had, typically using a case within the first 6 months or so. I seem to be going backwards with this one lol

Also any tempered glass screen protector that fits this new screen, without the halo effect by some of the more known and expensive brands, fit like ass.

Wirll have to see how These go on, they all get delivered today, So will find out, thank s for the heads up.

Would you pay $20 for a full adhesive tempered glass?

Like a lot of you I've been after the elusive full adhesive tempered glass. I've been able to locate a video of one, so kept digging and looks like there may be someone who can start selling these if all goes well. I've not tried them yet but I'm trying to see if I can get one to do some testing with it. Looks like the price point may be $20, but I honestly don't think that's bad considering Whitestone is $40 to $50. Maybe we can work a group deal on it idk? Thoughts?

bad reviews:

But it's not from that vendor it's a different vendor, that was just an example cause everyone always tells me that it's not possible. Just wanted to post the video so people saw that they could make it.

And that's one review from one guy. I tried contacting that company myself and they won't ship to the US according to them. Either way that's why I said I'd like to try it first regardless.

The problem is getting air bubbles out without breaking the glass. This looks like one of those with the always tacky non-glue centers. They still use silicon around the edge.
I'd buy one. Looks good.
I'm not holding out a massive amount of hope, but I've purchased this one from AliExpress which claims to be full adhesive. It's cheap enough to take the risk...
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/201...r-Full-Adhesive-Anti-scratch/32828528538.html
One thing that gives me some hope is that the claimed thickness isn't the standard 0.3mm or 0.33mm that the bulk of the protectors seem to be, so maybe, just maybe, it's not one of those cloned protectors that probably all come from the same factory.

Wow that's cheap, can you review it when you get it? I bought a luuvvit tempered glass and although not full adhesive, I'm actually pleasantly surprised that I have zero issues with it.
I paid $50 from Bestbuy for a Zagg, works flawlessly
No but I paid 50 for Whitestone Dome Glass....

It's pants. Black edged, even though I ordered transparent. It has adhesive edges, and dot matrix pattern. I said I didn't hold out much hope.
Theres one on Amazon that comes with some light... for $45.. if that was THE ONLY one.. so far it is.. but.. I will wait. If the only one I would

Anyone going to go bare without a screen protector?

I pre ordered my note 8 with Verizon and it came in yesterday!
I have the spigen kick stand case on it now. Got it from Amazon prime for 17 bucks and it's great. Makes the phone easier to handle.
I have the cheap plastic screen protector that came on the phone in the box. Really can't decide on a screen protector. I hate the wet application ones and the dry adhesive tempered glass always bubble. Thinking about going raw....any one else?
I'm supposed to get mine tomorrow but none of my accessories are here and I ordered the phone after the accessories. I wouldn't do it only because of some of the complaints of the s8 and scratches on the screen. There's some screen protector that I'm gonna try that is supposed to be a hybrid between regular protectors and tempered. Hopefully I can order that soon but I'm gonna have to use the one in the box or a temporary tempered glass on it

I am,in place of a screen protector,I'm using a liquid sealer.
Here's one that's relatively inexpensive:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/NanoBlot-Liquid-Screen-Protector-Phone/165968396
https://www.walmart.com/ip/NanoBlot-Liquid-Screen-Protector-Tablet/112875380
And another that costs a bit more, but, good for several applications:
https://www.nanoflowx.com/spraygard
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nanoflow-X-...tector-PROTECTS-UP-TO-16-PHONES-/172590962858
Do these sealers work?
That's debatable, but,I've been using several different brands for about two years & while it is impossible to prove a negative I haven't had a single blemish on any of my phones for 2+ years.
Do not mistake this stuff as an equal replacement for a screen protector,it's merely providing scratch resistance, nothing in regards to breakage.
I don't recommend these sealers to everyone, especially to those who are prone to exposing their phones to scratching (using the phone w/dirty fingers/exposed to the elements/dropping/typically careless in regards to pocketing/pursing with items that may scratch on a regular basis,etc...)
I don't baby my phone, but,I do take care to keep it in a pocket holster while @ work & in a neoprene sleeve most other times.
For me,a screen protector is not necessary,so,I use a sealer for added protection against scratching.
Some think they're snake oil & TBH,I don't blame 'em,but,I loathe screen protectors as a whole,less a perfectly installed factory one,as w/the Huawei Mate 9,you'd be hard-pressed to notice.
I wish a factory-installed protector was an option, perhaps I'd be more inclined to use one, provided it didn't have the looks akin to a protective bra on a car circa 1980-1990.........................

With my first Note 7 I used Sharkproof "snake oil" and like you was very careful with daily handling. For the 4 weeks (!) i had my first Note 7 I had no issues. The only issue I had was that Sharkproof made the screen too slippery. For my third Note 7, the second was a swapped device from Samsung which went on eBay, I used Samsung's OEM screen protector. On the whole this was a great option as the S Pen worked well and was more effective than gel/TPU type and I managed not to waste money searching for the holy grail of the tempered glass solution. For the Note8, Samsung have not made available their own screen protector.
EDIT : And so for the Note8, I'm going to have to waste money on TPU/Gel like protectors until Samsung....

You would have social services take my phone in to protective custody, if you saw how I treated it.
Was just looking at my S7E screen, thinking "that's actually
pretty good, for its age". Then remembered I smashed it and had it replaced a month ago.
I have a case on it now...
My problem with screen protectors: Every one I've used has looked and felt worse than the micro scratches it might prevent.

LMFAO,you sound like one of my friends from my youth who handled LP's as if they were Frisbee's on a good day & more like a Zildjian on a drum solo..... ?
Does the S8 have the same gorilla glass the Note 8 will have?
I was so hopeful that i could forego the screen protector on this one but from reading this thread i doubt it.
Last note I had was the 4 and i had the screen crack on me.
no matter how many people say they got no scratches, never go without protector. they are either blind, lie or can't place the phone in right angle to see those scratches.
i always buy protectors because of the scratches and not because the screen could crack.
on my s4 which has gorilla glass 3. i haven't had a protector for the last year after using always the same protector 3 years before.
since then there aren't any hard scratch on the display or anything but i notice alot of fine micro scratches but only when i put heavy light on it and hold it in the right angle.
i have used it much, but mostly at home and also kept care of it. still it happened.
as far as i know and have read this isn't any better on the newest gorilla glas 5. so i will not risk anything and keep on using protectors.
for the note i just simply can't find anything good.
whitestone dome on the s8 was good, but overpriced, not friendly for every case, popped up after a few months or just cracked very fast.
not good enough for this kind of money otherwise it would be good is guess.
all other glass protectors are useless since they only stick to the sides and will force problems like bad touch, dirt underneath or popping up very fast.
then there are wet tpu protectors which i don't like. they are too thin and flexible. they just don't feel right, leave marks quickly and often got a yellow touch or rainbow effect.
also they will probably not stick long on the edges and are mostly not case friendly even if they say so.
so the only thing which i consider are the good old school tpu/pet protectors which are applied without any water or so.
i hope they will stick good on the edges and if they are case friendly nothing will pop up.
it's a little bit harder to get all the bubbles out but i rather put some time into placing the protector right and remove the bubbles then buying every few weeks a new one or even go without any.
of course they will also feel kinda cheap like plastic (it is plastic afterall) but atleast they are not so thin and flexible like the wet tpu ones.
for now i will try this one and hope it will be good. if not well then im fuc*ed cause i can't find anything else!! (

I'm getting this for the note 8 as soon as it's out. I've been on contact with the company and sounds like next week. Seems like a very thick pet, or some hybrid of tempered. https://youtu.be/ksCnb3xlKU4

i have this weird thing where i do protectors for at least the first yr then i just go bare. it doesn't make too much sense logically i suppose but i probably will with the Note 8 again. My S7 has been bare for a while now and has zero scratches FYI

On second thought. With the monthly insurance I pay for, why not just go with a bare screen and if it cracks, get a new one?

Bare always feels great!
However, the cuts and scratches really detract. Insurance will not cover that as normal wear and tear. So, for the first time, I'm wrapping mine up. hehe
Bought 9H screen protector. If it's not as "Sensitive" I can always take it off.
