Hello friends of the Optimus Black.
[Introduction]
Today i started the first time flashing and android phone. Before i modiefied & flashed firmwares of serveral AVM fritzbox devices to get more features. I use linux as my everyday OS, but installed Win7 because it seems to be easier when working with android devices.
[Problem]
My LG OB stucks at the bootscreen (flying rocket) after i installed the jellybam_p970.NIGHTLY_20121215.zip and gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip.
I have used theese instructions:
[HOW TO]The Big N00B how-to! and [ROM 4.1.2 - 4.2] JELLYBAM [15/12] [Nightlies] [P970] [PA.AOKP.CM10] [ATOMIC] .
I do know how to handle the SmartFlash Tool to get bricked phone back to live.
One problem is, that iam not shure, if the used nightly rom is corrupt or if i may have used the wrong gaps file. I had to opent this thread, because iam not allowed to post in the developer section (which might be good, if the rom is corrupt)
Another problem is, that it id like to avoid a further unbricking-process with smarttool, just because it takes so much time to:
1. unbrick
2. turn on usb-debug
3. use blackjack to root
4. connect to wifi
5. register at google
6. install rom manager app
7. backup
8. factory reset (wipe)
9. flash
Is it possible to take a shortcut?
Many thanks for your help guys.

Hopefully, there is faster way ! After more than 20-30 bricks i get bored with similar process to yours ;p
You just need to use THIS tool to convert your favourite stock firmware to smartflash format and patch it with CWM (recovery). Then, after flashing this converted firmware using SFT your phone will automatically reboot into recovery and you will be able to flash any ROM without rooting, installing cwm etc.
I don't remember exactly, but this tool should only work with v10-v20 firmware, so just download one from HERE from your country (or just with well working baseband) and let's simplify your life !
I have modified one. Many thanks for this tip. I will test it the next time the device bricks.
Do you know if i used the correct gapps file? I tried Version 10.
EDIT
[Problem solved]
After flashing an earlier nightly buld (14th of december) and the CM10 gapp file the OS starts.
Thanks for your help

Due to many lags and problems with last stock rom from samfirmware I finally choose to mount a custom rom, as I have always done with all my devices in have taken a lot of informations before proceding so I have some questions to do:
what is the best rom for my tablet? ( I am an advanced user)
how can I bypass my bootloader block?
How can I install without bricking?
I have tried to install overcome kernel following standard procedure but my table was blocking in a new download mode image, and it didn't start. I solved flashing new stock rom, very indecent and lagging
thank for responses to everybody
with overcome you can follow the guide i think you might be making the mistake i made
read the guides well
before starting
1 root your device
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812367
2 how to unlock there is a sticky post here dont flash but if you do there is an apk file you have to run first on the stock rom to unlock (need step 1 to execute this)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071
read this guide and the steps below first before proceding
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11713685
3 copy the zip rom file to your internal SD not external
4 when you flash the kernel it boots into samsung screen wait it sais converting
then it estimates miutes then it finishes (i followd the guide and thought it was stuck on that screen before it was done converting to the new format
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932082
now proceed with the setps from but keep step 3 and 4 in mind

GL!
I got my Galaxy Tab about a week ago and flashed Overcome right after. Highly recommended!
Follow the first post.
As far as recommending a Rom/Kernel. The Overcome Kernel and Rom are being developed and updated almost weekly. It's very stable and quite powerful.
I have done nr. 1st and 2nd steps and I'm going to make a 3rd. Step but I have another question in link you have posted there are old overcome kernel and rom, which I must download? The procedure is the same?
procedure is the same simply flash/install latest version.
How about if I want to use SMS after flashing? It's working on stock rom right now, do I need to do anything special when flashing Overcome?
i have done all steps, now i'll try this kernel and rom....thanks a lot to everybody!!

on euro tab all functionality works,
wifi
3g
gps
call
sms
accelerometer
light sensor
did not try using video call / mms
dose not work for me
vpn with tun.ko vpnc
what you sometimes need to do after flashing is to set up the acces points for some things like 3g connection you can usualy go to your providers homepage and have them send an sms to you with correct settings or fill in manualy
So no need to flash a modem or something, right? Thanks
Second that! I just installed Overcome 1.4.2 (replaces both the kernel and ROM) and everything is working dandy. Waiting to test it under day-to-day usage on weekdays next week, but for now it's been pretty stable and lag-free.
Did hit a road block while flashing yesterday (hit the same 'stuck at Samsung screen' issue others have faced), but there main ROM thread and another that it pointed to had step by step guides to everything. From flashing the kernel to troubleshooting problems. I just got into Android last month and this is my first flash.
Did find that the battery temperature on Overcome seems to be higher on average than when I had stock Euro... Am not overclocking though. Will continue to monitor this one.
no the modem dose not get replaced
you can chouse to go for a newer modem if you wish
Hello pls where i can get P990 stock rom zip ( czech version ) in zip format... for me is better instalation.
Please answer fast
I have backup stock rom but if i flash it .... in boot screen freeze and after 5 sec restart phone
You'll first need to convert your file system to EXT3 first. CM is EXT4 and stock is EXT3. Flash this zip in recovery: http://android.modaco.com/topic/336...3-for-converting-your-device-er-back-to-ext3/
So you'll need to do this in recovery:
1. Wipe everything
2. Flash the BackToExt3 zip
3. Restore stock rom backup.
This should work.
Nice big thx this is easy and very fast

I read this post above and cant go anywhere further because the silly rules do not allow noobsters to ask noobster questions ????
heres my problem,
I have P990 that came with froyo
the thing was working perfectly apart from front camera in Skype and silly old me, not being able to ask novice questions here (because you are not allowed) somehow managed to install the cryogen 9 naively thinking that this will fix the only problem I ever had. And then the world of unstability, locked and frozen screens, freezing, restarting, random uninstaling of apps, cameras not working, video freezing, music (what music??) not available and not even starting etc started to be my daily dose of my randomly properly working p990 phone.
Is there anyone kind enough to explain how to do stock rom as per above post install on top of my big mistake .
I have an unstable, unreliable (rooted ) P990 that is currently (very randomly) running cryogen 9 , I downloaded the 2 part files from trapacska's post (thanks for thinking of us mortals), I have 2 laptops , one with windows XP , one with windows 7 64 bit, a usb cable to connect laptop to the phone and I will to do anything to return my phone to some normality .
Please take me step by step or show me links how to do it and what other programs do I need in order to make my phone work as it is supposed to work.
Please understand that I do not understand what all this bellow means, and would really appreciate if anyone could explain or point to places where these things are explained ( please omit the first point, I found how to root elsewhere):
THIS IS 100% FACTORIAL STOCK:
-you have to root
-wipe data and cache NOW NOT NEEDED(built in format /system /data /cache)
-100% factorial stock kernel included
-baseband and recovery will not be changed
-if you have bootloop, try to flash backtoext3 first
Hi,
Sorry if this seems like a dumb question - A bit confused from reading up all the info on upgrading to ICS on the p990.
Im running a volk custom kernel, and CM 7.2 - OS Version 2.3.7.
Whats the "best" way to upgrade to the new ICS? I tried running the LG software update but it doesnt go too well, fails after it tries to detect phone - even though it detects it initially.
Can I get the release that LG released with my setup?
Please advise.
Thanks!
Same situation here. I'm on official cm7.2 and would like to upgrade to ics. But don't think that useing official lg update tool is so good idea - it might brick your phone. It won't update to ics because you aren't running the official GB rom so lg update tool won't upgrade (correct me if i'm wrong).
Maybe the AIO tool would do the trick.
Anyways, people we need your advice!
LOL, use NVflash ICS rom like TG.
for me the best way is using the toolkit to install new partition, new bootloader and recovery
than boot into recovery and flash the room as usual
Thanks Wakata.
Much appreciated. I have tried downloading the toolkit but its always corrupt.. ill download the 7 zip format.
I take it that I will need to back everything up and wipe everything, install new partition, boot loadder and recovery(CWM??), then flash with the new rom and kernel?
I've also used the All-In-One P990-Toolkit to upgrade to ICS.
You can use 1. to backup your internal SD in case you need it later.
Then hit 4. to change the partition layout and after that 8. to flash the new unlocked bootloader. That's all.
Thanks again
Slight problem - I downloaded the 7z file, and extracted them, but cant seem to run the .cmd file? What am i doing wrong here?
scratch that last question.. for some reason the files are corrupt when i download them.. grrrr.
So I followed the instructions, and suprise suprise, I get an error -
Nvflash started
nvflash configuration file error: file not found
An error occured. Read above lines for details
Help please
Nevermind, I had a fiddle and flashed ics 6.0.xxx.. lets see how it goes. Hopefully I havent bricked it lol
Sorry, problem.
I first tried option 1, then 4, then 8.. after its all done, no errors - I boot the phone, and its stuck on the red LG logo.. I've left it there for around 10-15 mins with no luck? Help!
Haha, actually I figured it out. I did realise I didnt have a ROM! Doh! lol rookie mistake.
I downloaded this rom and kernel(1.4ghz OC) and its running pretty well, no bugs so far(touch wood)
Hello guys,
I'm hoping to get some help here, since I've lost 2 days trying to flash my phone with a custom ROM.
The phone was running Official Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich V30A, and I did the following in order to flash it:
After unsuccessful rooting attempts with SuperOneClick (stuck at step 7) I found another way, using nvflash, following these instructions. Somehow I thought I need to unlock the bootloader first, in order to root the phone, so I did that first. After that, I rooted my phone with SuperSU Root as described in this tutorial, and also installed CWM.
I thought that I was ready for the flashing part, and downloaded a custom ROM along with the right GAPPS, and followed the instructions carefully.
First few attempts I got stuck at the beginning of rom flashing process, than I found a solution, where I needed to delete the first line in the META-INF\com\google\updater-script file, then the flashing came trough, but somehow to quick I thought.
After everything was wiped/cleaned/flashed I click on “reboot system now” after which the phone should reboot into the new rom, but nothing happens, the phone acts "dead", it won't turn on, or boot into recovery mod. I was sure that I've bricked my phone, but luckily I was able to get it back on using the APX method with nvflash and boot flash.
But then the phone starts with the official ICS 4.0.4, as if nothing was flashed.
After another day of searching for a solution, I've found out that there are different partitions for different rom's, than I realized that I was trying to flash
Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on LG Optimus 2X via Avatar Custom ROM
LG Optimus 2X P990 to Android 4.2.1 CM10.1 Jelly Bean Nightly
Jelly Bean on a ICS device wich logicaly should run on a different partition, so I downloaded a ICS based ROM EAGLESBLOOD™ ICS "AOSP" 4.0.4_r2.1 and got the same issue when flashing, where I had to delete the first line in META-INF\com\google\updater-script, but than the flashing process went trough and seemed more genuine than before as it took longer to finish, so I was happy for a moment, and rebooted the device, and voila nothing...he's deaaaad again.
Can someone please help me to find out where the problem lies.
Thanks for any help, I hope someone takes the time to read this.
No one here to help...
Finally I've managed to install TWRP over CWM with AIO Tollkit, to see if the problem was with CWM.
The flashing process/time seemed similar, but the phone actually booted this time, but not into the new "flashed" custom ROM, but into the old stock one which should be wiped/deleted...
Dont worry too much....
Just use the All In One Tool Kit by spyrosk.....just wipe everything....as I suspect that all your partitions have been disturbed.....for the link for this tool, check my signature
Flash the one from JellyCream.... (it is new bootloader ROM on the dev section) or if you want the 4.3 based CM ROM, then find the one from tonyp....
You will loose the data on the Internal SD card....if you have a backup on the external, then restore form it....
Edit: Eaglesblood ROM is not supported by the developers as far as I know....
Finally
Thank you for replying/helping :good:
As it seems, it was a bootloader issue (ord/new). My phone has the new one, and I thought that the ROMs I've downloaded
Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on LG Optimus 2X via Avatar Custom ROM
LG Optimus 2X P990 to Android 4.2.1 CM10.1 Jelly Bean Nightly
EAGLESBLOOD™ ICS "AOSP" 4.0.4_r2.1
would run with the newBL, since they ware recently updated or made, and there was no clear info about the boot loader version.
Now after 3-4 Days of struggling, I've tried a ROM which is made and clearly stated for the newBL,ParanoidAndroid v2.6 "p990-2.6-14-newbl-tonyp.zip" and flashed it without any problems. I didn't have to wipe the whole internal storage with AIO Toolkit, I've followed the usual flashing procedure.:victory::laugh::good: the new rom looks awesome. I hope that I won't have any lock screen or random reboot issues, like before.
Now I'm gonna help a guy, who has the same problem.
I just joined this site to seek some help. In 2013 after the upgrade of 4.1.2 android (jellybeans) my phone became useless for use as it ran very very slow and ate battery like there was no tomorrow. I put it away and bought me another phone. But after several years I took it out again to see if I could start using it again. But not in its present condition. I read on many forums about it and obviously I am not the only one complaining. The best suggestion I have found is to downgrade it back to ICS 4.04 (Icecream sandwich). But I cannot find the firmware for Canada..I did find firmware for UK but not sure what will be the consequences if I installed that built. The other day I successfully rooted the device with SuperSu but made no difference to speed or battery drain. So I seek help in locating version 4.04 desperately. Please help revive this phone and be gentle as I am new to Android world. Cheers
SuperSU won't help speeding your phone unless you install apps to do it .. And you can flash the UK firmware if its the international N7000 without any problems .. BTW you don't have to downgrade .. Just flash the new JB firmware .. And you can flash a custom lollipop ROM .. It would be lighter and faster than stock .. Try nightowl or resurrection remix .. They are really stable

Yes, I agree with Noob, no point to downgrade your phone, you could flash UK upgrade but probably the best thing to do is to flash one of the ROM's he mentions. I flashed Nightowl 12.1.1 on my wife's Note and it has been awesome! No crashes so far, no excessive lag as Nightowl kernal supports trim (lag like she had with stock, is due to bug in emmc chip not trimming memory thus making it slower and slower the more you use it). Also repartition so there are no more issues with memory running low, slowing your phone and not being able to upgrade apps).
If you decide on NightOwl I'd install 12.1.1 (Android 5.1.1) from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note/development/rom-t2938649
Easiest is probably to click the "How to repartition button" on above link and follow Savin's instructions exactly to repartition and install NightOwl, you have already installed stock 4.1.2 so you are already on your way!!!
Take a week or two to get your head around all the terms, if you have not done this sort of thing before, would be advisable. If you follow these steps you won't brick your phone (though there is always a very small risk, so you do this at your own risk!) See also NightOwl Google+ pages https://plus.google.com/communities/106990063819354862953
Read the threads and use search to answer any questions, if you still have questions ask on the thread, don't expect support via PM's (though you might get lucky a couple of times :victory: ) Watch a few videos of people flashing & partitioning too would also probably help to get familiar with stuff.

These days its a piece of cake flashing your phone with a new ROM since there is a ton of guides on xda that goes in detail .. I'm currently running cm 11.0 nightowl (Kitkat) and its fast and smooth .. Lollipop will eventually start lagging after a month of usage .. And I did try to help him using pm but I guess he didn't go online since yesterday .. Can you brick your phone while flashing through recovery ? Because I accidentally flashed a couple of i9300 ROMs and it worked after a clean flash .. There's a really small chance for you bricking your phone ..

Yes, agreed small chance of soft brick & very small chance of hard brick these days, though this phone has the dodgy emmc chips that caused a lot of bricks ....... but that was before patches released and all the hard work from developers like Bauner who have incorporated fixes into ROMs & Kernals so it's easy for us now!!

This is great help thank you. I visited the opengapps.org and there are just too many options to select from. I have Android Version 4.1.2 and its not even mentioned in the listing...what do I get?
Also to do Nightowl they recommend to flash N7000ZSLR1_N7000OZSLR1_BRI Rom and my phone which is rooted has N7000XXLT3..should I just keep this or flash what is recommended as above..if so where do I find this rom? Thank you

The gapps you need to get has to be of the new rom you want to flash. Not what you have. If cm12. 1 then lollipop and cm13 then marshmallow. There is no need to flash another stock rom. Go ahead with the new rooms flashing procedure.

You want ARM, 5.1.1 (for NightOwl 12.1) & Gapps of your choice, though bauner recommends Micro/nano/pico, not sure why, maybe just because they are small and will leave you more space for your apps. Once you have downloaded this zip file to your PC then you can just copy file over to your phone external SD card using USB cable in normal drag & drop way once phone is recognised by windows.
Personally I would recommend you repartition as per Savin's instructions in first post so that you have plenty of space for apps and a bit left so phone does not slow down (also I think instructions are good for a nooby as they take you from start to finish, all you can do is find a few newer versions of the files he links if you like, I did this with my XXLT3, then flash latest NightOwl & Gapps for nightowl version you flash)
