I have only had the gumdrop case a few hours but I do prefer holding the n7 in both portrait and landscape with this case. I have big hands so the bulk the case adds makes it more comfortable to hold. The case ads quite a bit of weight to the n7 however so I can see some people disliking that but it doesn't bother me. The buttons are angled a little towards the back due to the frame but are large and easy to find. The power button requires more pressure than the volume buttons however. As far as the color, the military color option looks awesome in person.
Build quality seems really well done and it feels bomb proof, probably over kill for my use. The screen protector doesn't take away from the clarity at all and fits nicely. You don't get that button press feel either when using the screen. The plastic does give off some weird smell which I assume will go away over time.
As for the SBL pouch, it fits perfectly but its very snug and doesn't just slide in and out, yet. It needs to be broken in a bit more but it'll eventually be a great fit. You can't go wrong with any SBL product so if you're in the market for a pouch for your n7, I highly recommend saddleback leather.
Hopefully that helps a bit.

High Quality Cases

So I was hoping we could talk about high quality cases that look good and may cost more than the usual cases found on ebay etc. Even though I understand cheap is good at times I do prefer my cases to be of a high standard to hold my precious Nexus 7.
Any high quality cases on the horizon?
I've been looking at a sleeve. I can't post a link, but it's leather and comes with a 100 year warranty. It's by Saddleback Leather and is the medium gadget sleeve.

Saddleback is GOOD stuff. Might have to see if they have one that will fit the N7, otherwise might be able to request one.
Someday I'd love to get a Saddleback Attache. They are beautiful and will last long enough to pass down to grandkids (I don't have kids yet)!

These are $19-25
Timbuk2 makes really great cases. They are currently on sale for the kindle fire. I have double checked the dimensions and it will def fit the Nexus 7. The great thing about the Timbuk2 cases are the functional design. They have a pillow style memory foam padding and ballistic Nylon outside, and a plush, velour faux fur lining for the inside. The faux fur really goes a long way to keeping the screen and body scratch free.
I have 2 on order. They have a couple of different color combos to choose from. I am def into the sleeve style cases. I don't understand why anyone would want to put their tablet or e-reader in a jacket. They are designed to be held, especially the Nexus 7. The rubber back just begs to be gripped.
I'm hoping for a nice case from Incipio. Love the case from them that I have on my Galaxy Nexus.
I went with the roocase super bubble and XOSkin screen protector. I will eventually get a TPU case but don't really like any that are out now.
Those handcrafted leather ones look amazing though! Very nice brand name for other leather goods, but I didn't know they made this line of stuff.

I've asked Oberon Design if they're planning to make one for the Nexus 7. http://oberondesign.com/e-reader-covers-4/siena-ereader-covers.html I've had two of their covers and they're amazing. Their tablet cover isn't intricate like their Ebook reader covers but the quality is definitely there.

Looking at the dimensions, the Nexus 7 should fit nicely. The quality is really drawing me in. But they're kind of expensive.

Actually, I got a reply this morning - a good one:
"We are looking into making a cover specifically for the Nexus. We have one ordered and once we receive it we will be able to develop our design. I don’t know at this point if the siena style will be an option or not. We will have to see. Stay tuned for more information on our website and facebook page.
Thanks so much for your interest."
I told her that I don't care which one it is, to keep me posted. I love their cases. :good::good:
DODOcase makes great handmade case for the iPad and Kindle. I contacted them asking about the Nexus 7 and they said,
Thanks for your interest! We don't currently have an ETA for release yet, but we are looking into a case for the Google Nexus.
You can keep your eyes peeled for new DODOcase products in the near future, and you can go to the below link to join our mailing list and to follow us on facebook and twitter, which will keep you updated on our latest products and editions.

Does anyone know if the official N7 case works as a horizontal kickstand?
I bought the Timbuk2 Plush Sleeve, which is designed for the Kindle Fire, but the Nexus 7 is within the maximum dimensions. I've always been a big fan of their stuff and this sleeve is no exception... super nice!
FYI... I can confirm the Plush sleeve for the Fire fits the N7 perfectly.
I also asked a G+ question to Vajacases.com. Genuine Argentinian leather products. I began using them on my Sony Clie back in the days of pdas
Awesome product, almost to the par of Oberon cases. I have one on my wife's old Nook but looks great.
There's also http://www.reauthored.com/, which was reviewed on rootzwiki a week ago. Pretty cool stuff but unsure if they will make one for a N7. I haven't asked them yet.
Edit: Looks like they do lol

finally this is the cover i had seen a few weeks ago and could not find it anywhere....

Alright. I just got home and the Trident Aegis package was waiting at my door. First impressions? Not too happy Its not like the typical Aegis cases that I have seen. Normally, they are two separate pieces with a soft silicone layer and a separate, hard polycarbonate shell. This one is a single piece with the two layers combined into one (hybrid style?). But, on top of that, the inner layer is not very soft at all. The whole case is fairly thin with a fairly hard feel to it. It makes me question its ability to absorb shock in a fall.

I will try in a bit. I just walked in the door so have a few things to do first. I like the feel of the case in the hand so far. Maybe the initial shock of it being totally different than I expected will wear off. haha
Seems to be like slapping a bumper sticker on a Mercedes... am I missing something? Id like to see some good pics..
Sent from my AT&T Galaxy Note II /w wireless charging.
Here are some picks. I like the form factor of the case. It feels pretty solid in the hand and has some decent grip. I'm still not over it being so different than I had expected. That is probably biasing my opinion right at the moment. For people that like a slimmer design and a one piece case, I can see it being a pretty good pick. I was expected a two-piece case with a substantial silicone layer to absorb shock. This doesn't have much of a cushioning factor.
The dust covers on the headphone jack and charging port are more like plugs than a complete covering. They are also quite stiff. This might make them less likely to get floppy, but I'm not so sure that's true if they are held open all night when charging or when listening to headphones. It's possible they'd lose some of their spring.
Getting it in and out of the case isn't too bad. It's a little stiff just because of the nature of a hybrid case, but nothing that makes me feel like I'm going to hurt the phone. There's a decent lip around the screen so placing it face down is not an issue.
The polycarbonate backing is fairly slick. People may have varying opinions about how much grip they get on the case. The sides are a softer feel which gives the edges more of a sticky feeling. Tridents logo on the back is recessed enough that it doesn't add any grip there. When you set the case on a flat service, the logo in the silicone layer doesn't even touch. This is good in that it doesn't make the phone wobbly, but it makes the phone more slippery so that it may slide of your dash for instance if you had it up there when driving.
So far my overall opinion is that its a nice case if you want a slimmer fit, one piece case that is fairly stylish looking. Personally I was looking for something a little beefier and I might keep looking since this doesn't quite fit the bill for me. But, it certainly might grow on me once I recover from the initial wtf factor. I had a really slim case on my original note (sgp ultra capsule) and that has worked out just fine. This one is certainly more protective than the ultra capsule or a standard tpu. But, it's so solid feeling that I fear it's only a slight improvement.
Feel free to ask any questions or request a specific picture. I'm taking the pictures with my note 1 and I'm not the best at setting up shots, but I'll try my best.
I have one coming in a day or so, and I have to say I am disappointed off the at that it is not dual layer. Every one so far has, so I think its pretty misleading that this one isnt. Cant wait for the Casemate Tough Case now....

I think its very misleading. The videos that Trident has on the same page as the Note 2 Aegis case are of models that are dual layer. No where do they say its single layer or "hybrid" style casing in the product description.
I will be contacting Trident to let them know of my disappointment in that area.
That's really misleading. I just ordered one thinking it would be two separate layers. I have to admit though I've been dying for an urban Armor gear which is a one piece just like this one is. So I'm pretty glad it's not two piece!

Review of Asus Nexus 7 Travel Case - Slimmest case with best fit

Here is my review http://smartphoneblogging.com/2012/...-its-not-half-as-bad-as-many-reviews-suggest/
Even with all of its shortcomings I prefer this to all those huge and ugly leather cases. Its slim, light and has great grip...I don't care much about the missing magnet, but I do miss the stand function though...
I agree with the review, but they could have done better in designing it. I found a lot of the cases don't look to nice, so I just keep mine in a neoprene case for when I take it out, the tablet is naked.
I have also been thinking to live without a case but at the end I need something which completely wraps around my nexus 7 without adding bulk. I had a pouch too but it was too cumbersome to take it out of it all the time...at the moment there is no better solution for me than the nexus travel case...
Mine, like every phone I've owned lately, lives in a TPU skin, and I just pop it in the lovely Portal-themed felt sleeve my girlfriend made me when I'm out of the house. I don't really trust myself using a naked device at all. The times my devices come out of their TPU skins are almost certainly the time I will drop them... lol
Lack of magnet sleep and magnetic close could have made the case a lot better, but I think. I don't have it yet so I might try to mod it a little with some relatively weak magnets and some tape if I can help not taking the away from its sleekness.

I agree 100%. Just bought original case in light gray and it is fantastic. Such a nice look, looks good quality and feels great in hand. I don't mind the stand, I don't mind that the cover can flip open because there's no security button or something (I have it in my pocket anyway so there's not much room to flap open) what I mind is the magnet because the power and volume buttons are a bit awkwared to press since they're covered with silicone. I mean, it's easy to press, no problems there, it just works - but there is no "click" feeling to it. Even though it is pretty expensive here in the Czech rep (500 Crowns, that;s like 20 Euros) I don't have regrets - the build quality is great and it looks and feels fantastic.
cheers,
D.

True. Basically I'd love to have a smart cover like Apple provides. It only covers the screen. I also think that the Nexus 7 doesn't need an additional back cover.
A small bumper with a screen cover is really a nice idea.
What I like about the original Asus cover is that it changes the color of your Nexus - I have light gray color and it is almost white, so the Nexus looks completely different Yes, no need for back cover, but kinda nice to see it it light gray or any other color they offer
I hear this was a flop to. I was considering accessories for m N7.
But I dont want to loose the back rubber with I love. and the Damn N7 will slip right in my back pocket if I need to go make a tech call.
I'm hereby going caseless.

If just it had a magnet and were able to be folded as a stand, it would be great!

I ordered the latest fashion cover from nillkin, which looks good but feels cheap.

After some days of usage I switched back to the travel case, which still just feels the best overall. It has more grip and is slimmer than the eBay smart covers...

I don't want to manually mod the case, that's not my job. Your solution is nice, but its ridiculous that Google or Asus let it come to this. They should give us a premium case.
Picked one up tonight at Walmart. Was looking for a generic case and I was happily suprised to see one. $29.88. By the time Google gets tax and shipping it was worth the extra.
I really like it so far.

Looking for a "grippy" protective case with non slip back

I'm looking for a protective case for my Note 2 that has a grippy/hard rubber feel that doesn't slide around when I lay it down on it's back. I have an Otterbox commuter but the back is hard plastic and slides around a lot if I lay it down unless I flip it over. My wife has an Iphone and her otterbox has a very grippy rubbery feel that is non slip. I wish their Note 2 cases were like that. I'm looking at the Griffin Survivor case and was wondering if anyone has any other recommendations before I try it out? Thanks!

This case has been discussed by many on this forum and it has good reviews. It is definitely protective and grippy. You can even tell from the back rubbery design. If you want something slim, with a soft matte feel, i'd get the Six Abundant Case: http://www.amazon.com/DBA-Cases-Abu...=1378141992&sr=8-1&keywords=six+abundant+case

Do you know if the back is hard plastic or a softer rubber feel on the first one? I need it to stay put on a flat surface as I move around at work. The Commuter slides all over the place, which I cannot have. It will "stick" if I turn it over because of the rubber edges, but I need the phone to be face up/hands free. Thanks again for your suggestions.

From all the reviews and things I have heard about it, it seems to be in the middle. A hard rubber. So it's good for shock absorption. Definitely not a soft rubber because that would wear out very easily. However, from what everyone in the forums have said and from the amazon reviews, it seems like it will stay in place without issue. Also, it's only $10 and from amazon. If you don't like it, you can ship it back the same day for a full refund without any cost to you. Just keep the original box/packaging.
Here's a quote from someone who has it: "The back part of the case (the black exterior) feels more like silicone than plastic which gives it a nice look and grip. I have dropped my phone once on this case and I have to say that this case does a very good job on absorbing impact."

It's a hard plastic exo with a softer plastic inner. I have this case and it will not hold in place on a hard flat surface. Mine will not even "stick" when placed screen down. The kickstand is about a 4/10 (flimsy, too easily collapsed etc)
Also, the buttons, imo, are junk. Last night, after I started using this case again after owning it for ~6 months (used for 2 weeks), I took a razor blade to the buttons. Couldn't stand them being so difficult to press.
However, the drop protection is definitely up to the same level as the commuter, for being such a cheap case.
I'd say it's worth the price, maybe even less.
Also, I have a similar six abundant case that was free. And although it's very nice, and my most used case, it offers very little protection, and definitely not "grippy" on surfaces.
Wish I had some suggestions. The Griffin Sur. looks grippy. If you search the forum here there are a few people that bought one and commented on the quality. I believe they don't officially support it.. So it's actually a knockoff.
Edit2: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2174889 has info for the knockoff griffin. Enjoy.

Edit2: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2174889 has info for the knockoff griffin. Enjoy.

Thanks for the input, bro. That's rather unfortunate. I guess other sources don't have the best description then.
Have you looked into the body glove case? That looks pretty nice and there is a lot of discussion recently on it in the Post Your Pics of Your Phone thread. Check it out.

Definitely bro, maybe others will chime in with different opinions about it.
I was actually just revisiting the idea of the body glove refined gel case (been subbed to that thread for forever). I remember it being a very popular case earlier this year. At one point there was an eBay seller with ~50 of them for $8+free shipping. I should have jumped on it then. I'm just afraid that the lower section of the case (shiny area) will end up scratching easily (read: shiny back mercury case).
Still haven't even gotten around to trying the UAG... Even though I designed and 3D printed some custom inserts.
What case are you rockin?

3d printing?? Dude that's awesome! I saw on geeky gadgets or theawesomer website ad about a 3d real time laser scanner. It was really impressive. Expensive ($1400 I think) but very cool. Right now I'm using my Six Abundant Case. I rotate between that and my white UAG case. The UAG case is worth it for me. It's not super bulky and protects my phone extremely well. I have large hands so I have no problem gripping and using my phone in one hand with either case on. I do have way too many cases at this point. I even have the casemate tough. Totally forgot to mention that. That definitely has a good feel in terms of grip and it is super slim for a fully protective case. Another nice one is the DBA ultra case. I'll most likely be upgrading to the note 3 so I stopped buying more cases, lol.

Yeah! Got into robotics development at my University a few years back and somehow got nominated to be the guy that learns the ins/outs of our 3D printer so that I can teach others everything about it (even the computer science professors). In the printing world, $1400 is fairly cheap for a production item.
I did see the 3D scanner. I believe it is going to be made by Makerbot. We made our own using a Kinect (think: xbox 360) to do real-time scans of objects and roll them into 3D files. However, I usually make one-off prints so I have to build them entirely by hand in a 3D environment.
Agh.. You are making it hard not to press the "complete my order" button for the black uag haha. I too have large hands/long fingers; I often get my iPhone-using-friends asking me how I always use one hand with this beast. If I was a female I'm sure I'd have gained muscle from just using it by now lol.
Forgot about casemate. I'll have to check them out. (have their tough case on my Skyrocket & love it)
I'll most likely be upgrading as well (if not at least a smart watch).. So now seems like a bad time for me to by yet another case.. But.. I have an addiction lol.

That's really nice, bro. I know $1400 is not that expensive when it refers to such technology, but I meant in general - that's like a nice fully loaded laptop price, lol. I'm familiar with Kinect/Xbox360 so yeah, that's really interesting. I'm sure the whole 3D development can take time from scratch. Maybe I missed them, but did you ever post pics of your 3D-rendered cases? I'd love to see how they turned out.
Yes, the Case-Mate Tough is solid. I have the same black one as in this teamvenum review: http://www.teamvenum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=686
I know you complained about the buttons you eventually cut out of your Sentinel case. This is where the UAG shines. The button design makes it super easy to press the covered buttons. The one thing I love about my UAG case is that I can just toss my phone around onto my bed or the table like whatever without any worry. The shock absorption technology on UAG cases is pretty solid. I even got one for my father's S3 and he loves it (esp since he is accident prone/clumsy with all technology, lol).
Yes, the smart watch upgrade is definitely happening for me as well. I can't wait till they release the Samsung Gear this September. It's definitely going to be a step up from my pebble watch, which I use and wear all the time.
Also, your addiction...I understand all too well, especially being a huge tech fanatic. If you don't have a solid protective/easy to hold case currently and work in an environment where you really need that, I would go for it.

I never printed any cases for my Note 2, just the inserts for the UAG case with lettering and glow in the dark filament etc. I did make four cases for my gf's S3 but in the end she moved to a pink folio wallet case (which would take too much time to make haha). I've since then had two dead SD cards.. So I've lost a lot of pictures (backups are my priority every 24hrs now..). The cases were more of a "wow factor" type of thing. Everywhere we went people asked more about her case than my huge phone lol.. Lead to a lot of explanations of what a 3D printer is.. But After a few times on/off of the case they'd get weak and start to crack at random layers of which the printer printed it (our printer has a resolution of 0.001mm).
Started sanding the area of the Sentinel case today that I hacked out with the razor to make it smoother. Only had about ten minutes with some 1600grit paper, so I got one side pretty smooth!
I wanted to pledge money to the kreyos smart watch but got worried that I'd be stuck with money in the air for it and no item on my wrist until next summer.. The galaxy gear is definitely going to be watched (pun intended)! As long as it stays within $200-300..
As you can tell, it's hard for me to commit to some purchases lol!
To op: I remember seeing some peel & stick grip strips for phones. They were just thin clear gel-type adhesive strips. Been looking for them but can't find the review. Honestly, I'd also like a grippy case..
Edit: found it! www.egrips.com/ check it out.
Thanks for everyone's input...much appreciated. I own the Bodyglove case but I is still harder plastic than I would like. Its a decent case though. I had the Casemate Toughcase for my Note 1 and liked it, very protective as well, but still had a hard plastic outer shell. Maybe I'll research on getting some type of nonslip rubber strips for my Otterbox to see how that works. There are a few cases mentioned here I'll have to take a look at. Thanks again to you all.

Try the DBA Cases Ultra protection cases very good quality and good feel
http://www.dbacases.com/samsung.html
I have the UAG case. I have used the UAG line of cases for all my phones and they are solid. They have the bevel in the front so if it drops face down you wont shatter your screen and it has extra cushion on the corner bumpers. They are only $30 - $35 online. They fit on my OEM samsung dock with spare batttery charger.
The reason why I trust all my phones in the UAG case is that my wife's nephew through my note down the escalator at the mall. My heart stopped as I saw it tumble and bounce off every step. When I went to get it, the phone and case didnt have a scratch on it. The otterboxes are great but they are way too big. Especially for our note.
I am using a cheap eBay tpu. Smoke clear and it is rubber. It works great and protects just fine. Best of all it was only a buck and a half! Rubber does a pretty decent job of keeping it from sliding around unless it is on something very slick. keeps good in the hand too

I have the body glove from sprint.
I feel it offers the best for daily use and it has pocketablility which is nice. It doesn't get hung up as it has a glossy surface at the bottom of the phone.

[Review] Noreve Ambition Leather Pouch

Hi guys and gals, it's been a while since I've done a case review and this time it's a case from French manufacturer Noreve, who are known for their hand made, premium and genuine leather cases.
This time around I decided to go for a pouch, as I wanted something different, and was also curious as to how it was going to be crafted, since these are all hand made. Why the pouch, you ask? Well I just think they look great. While not the most practical of cases maybe, as you have to take the device out each and every time you want to use it, and you can't use the always on display, I just think it looks elegant. Going out for the night? Throw this case on. I've found it to be great since you're not distracted when any notifications come in, and when you put it on a table, it just looks elegant like most other phone cases simply do not. I'm not a big fan of plastic cases because they make the device look cheap. Think about it, you buy a phone for nearly $800, then you put a $5 plastic case on it, which just looks terrible. In my opinion, it totally takes away from the phones metal and glass construction. Also with the S7 Edge, I love the way it feels in the hand naked, and with this case you always have that experience.
As always, this case from Noreve is also exceptionally well made. It took a few weeks for it to arrive, since they only start making them once you order one, and depending on the finish, it can take longer or shorter. But normally it's about two weeks, which is perfectly fine for a custom made, leather case.
Unboxing a Noreve case is always an event. It comes in a very handsome red box, which is sealed by plastic wrap. Inside the box, you'll find a protective red pouch for your case - this is a very nice touch, and I love that they do this, when they really don't have to. But the devil is in the details. Inside the pouch, you'll find your case - and the first thing that you'll probably notice is the brilliant smell of genuine leather. It just adds something to the overall experience that I enjoy.
The case is made exceptionally well. Noreve cases have always been constructed with very high attention to detail, but I believe it's even higher now as there are no flaws with the case whatsoever. Because this is a pouch style case, there are no cut outs for the camera, power or volume rocker buttons. None for the micro USB or headphone jack, either. The only cut outs are for the speakers on the bottom. I think this is perfectly fine, and whenever I wanted to charge the phone or plug in some headphones, I'd just reverse the phone and put it into the pouch in reverse. I found this to be a practical and easy solution.
In conclusion, I am pretty much blown away by this company yet again. Never received a bad case from them, they only seem to get better. Mine is in the Ambition (grained leather) finish, but Norever offer a whole bunch of different finishes which you can also then customize. Basically, the sky is the limit. These guys can do whatever you want. They're a bit on the pricey side (my case was $45.40 - free shipping with DHL) but as we all know, you get what you pay for. This is not one of those Chinese made, fake leather cases which will rip and tear after a few months. Hell, I'm still using the one I have for my Galaxy Nexus, which should say something.
Here are some pictures below of this beauty. Thank you all for reading, and here's a link to their product page.
Cheers.
Can you elaborate on the inner material? How screen friendly is it?

The inner material is also leather, but more of a matte leather with the company logo branded into it. I'll try to get a picture up for you, but I haven't had any problems with it scratching the screen.

You can just order online from their site here, I believe they have worldwide free shipping with DHL.
Honestly to me that looks like a recipe for disaster. If anything like a grain of sand gets in it, you are running the screen down the inside material and it could scratch it.

Depends on where you live and what you do I guess. Last time I was in contact with actual sand was like 4 years ago.
Nice review and beautiful pictures.
Great review and photos, but it's not for me personally.
