Whenever i Install an gingerbread or cm7 Rom 2.3.7 on my x8,
after it the sd card in the phone is protected against writing, only reading.
The phone dont see the SD card anymore , and on my pc it see the card in my cardreader but i cant copy and paste things from it.
When i directly connect the phone with the sd card in it to my pc via usb, the pc dont see the sd card also.
Then when i flash back to the original Rom, the SD card is back normal like writing and reading and my phone sees the card.
Also i can Copy and paste like normal.
When i flash to froyo pro 24 (2.2.9 android) the phone also see the card like normal.
Looks to me something in 2.3 android versions mess with my SD card and set it on read only...
Does someone know what this could be?
Thnx in advance,
Henk
what sd card do you have? did you try format it?
It is the standard 4gb card that was in the box from the x8.
I install the roms via this sdcard.
I also formatted it but that did not solve the problem.
there is no ''lock''on the card, and after i flash it back to the original stock rom with flashtool it shows the card with no write or read protection.
In android 1.6 ,2.1 and 2.2 till version 2.2.9 i dont have the sd card issues.
I checked mini cm shakira,
herodroid
gx stock
prime hd and 2 other roms based on android 2.3.
Some i reinstalled and full wiped after the installation but that made no difference.
(offcourse i always full wipe/factory before installing the Roms )
In''storage settings it always say:
-total space
unavailable
-Available space
unavailable
-mount Sd card
Insert a sd card for mounting
-erase Sd card
erases all data on the phone Sd card such as music and photos.
(This is the only option that is highlighted and usable, and it erases only files when i tested it, it dont format the card)
I also tried to unlock the read only protection to place the mini sd card in the cardreader but i can't find an option to unlock that protection.
It only shows the files on the card but i cant copy and paste something.
(Both in windows7 and windows xp)
Some of them are on Stock kernel and the mini cm7 on an naa kernel.
(problem with the naa kernel was that i could not update the fix after flashing the rom in xrecovery,
since right after the flash from my sd card to mm7 my sdcard was on read only and write protected........had to reinstall the stock version by flashtool again and install xrecovery again and busybox, rooting, to start after with the flashing of custom roms again.
All of them did something with the sd card that it is read only when i place it in my sd card reader on pc ,and its not visible on the phone.
With some roms i can access the sd card via cwm or xrecovery to flash an rom zip but sometimes it says it cant mount''e'',
which is my sd card.
After i flashed my phone back to stock rom via flashtool, the sd card is visible again on the phone and not read or write protected.
Also on froyo pro 24(android 2.2) i dont have this sd card problem.
Could it be that there is some kind of driver for my sd card so that my phone reconize the sd card?
I really don't know what this issue could be and im stucked on 2.2 now.
you're using 2nd ext partition?
if yes, trying to solve it and boot via cwm and format it using partition sdcard (advance > partition sdcard) you need to backup your data first
if not using 2nd ext partition, try format using this http://hard-disk-low-level-format-tool.software.informer.com/ but i'm not test it yet
maybe u must check and repair your sdcard
1. try with another sdcard
2. make sure if your sdcard format is FAT
or
3. backup your sdcard data to your pc, then format it!
it must be work
Your idea doesnt work

Maybe the ROM doesnt have the necessary drivers. Any idea on how to install them?
Go to following directory via a root explorer app:
Root/system /bin
Find this file:
Fsck_msdos
Delete & Replace with froyopro's disk checker.(same file in froyopro rom)
Yes,this is the file which scan & fix ur sdcard For errors in startup.
This must help u.

Hi
Please respond to the following. I tried a lot to look the answer to my problem in the forums, but could not find it (or did not get the right forum)
I dual booted my NC with CM7.1.0. It was working fine without any problem, but suddenly stopped entering into the main screen. Whenever i on the nook the Cyanogen loading ... screen comes and then screen flashes and turns lit black.. the NC is not off but it does not reach to the main system. I tried to use update the CM by copying a new file to usd, but it did not let me do so.. computer hanged. I do not want to format it as it has some .xls files in documents folder in the 4th partition of usd. Can someone please tell me how to extract those files using computer's sd car slot ( I can not use nook usb option as it is not booting CM) and how to recover the older working condition.
I assume you have stock working on emmc. I have a flash file that you can temporarily flash to stock to make it read the fourth partition of the SD as 'sdcard'. Go to my tips thread linked in my signature and item B3 in the second post (last paragraph). It tells you how to modify stock to read that partition. If your stock is rooted, you can just edit the file yourself. If not rooted, you need to flash one of the files attached to the post. Instructions are there. After retrieving your files you can revert stock back to normal by re-editing the file or by flashing a second zip, or just keep it that way and use partition four for both systems. Then you can start over with your verygreen SD and reinstall CM7.
could not get it

We'll take this one step at a time. Do you have stock nook still on your internal memory? And if you do, is it rooted or just virgin stock?

Thanks for being so patient. I dont think it is rooted and the stock nook is touched as i follow a link provided in this forum to boot usd and dual boot nook without losing warranty to install cm7 on a usd.
When i use boot the nc, i see following responses
1. boot without usd: boots to original nc, all files and applications are there and work perfectly fine.
2. boot with usd without going to boot menu: cyanogen loading banner shows up and then screen flashes. .then a lit black screen .. nothing happens after that
3. boot with usd and selecting emmc in boot menu: boots to original nc but hangs at home screen
4. boot with usd and selecting sd (external storage) in boot menu: cyanogen loading banner shows up and then screen flashes. .then a lit black screen .. nothing happens after that

Your SD is definitely messed up. You will need to reinstall after we get your file saved that you want.
You will need a spare SD card that you can put my bootable CWM recovery on.
Go to my tips thread linked in my signature and download to your PC three files attached there. The one that starts CWM... and the two that start update-stock...
Extract the CWM zip. It will have a 200Mb .img file in it. Burn that to the spare SD just like you did when you made the verygreen SD. Once that is burned and you can see it on your PC, copy the two update-stock... zips to it.
Remove that SD from the PC and put in the nook. Boot. The CWM menu will come up. Select 'install zip from sdcard '. Then select 'choose zip from sdcard'. Scroll through the list and pick 'update-stockemmc-vold-fstab-modified-for-partition4.zip'. Then confirm the selection. It will flash the zip. Remove the CWM card and reboot to stock.
Insert the verygreen SD and you should be able to connect your USB and see partition 4 on the PC as 'sdcard'.
To return your stock to original after retrieving your file, just go through the process of flashing the other update file with CWM. But most people like leaving it modified so that they can always use just one SD for both systems.

I did exactly same, but could not see partition 4 on the pc as 'sdcard'. I see two drives 1. mynookcolor ( i can access all files in it), and 2. a removable disk drive I:/ ( that i can not access). I do not see my files (see pic below) those are on the 4th partition of sd card.
You need to mount the card in settings. Go to settings, device info, SD card. And choose 'mount SD card'.

It is already mounted. It shows sd card memory (not available), unmount SD card (\unmount the sd card for safe removal), and format sd card (format (erase) the sd card). However, only third option is active others are grey/inactive.

If it says unavailable and the first two are greyed out, that means it is not mounted. Pull it out and put it back in... wait you had the cable unplugged when you checked that didn't you? You should have.

What I am asking is with the USB cable removed, what does the settings show? If you remove and replace the SD with the settings window open, is there any difference? You say it detects it, how do you know that?
Edit: I have been searching for a solution for you. There are two ways to see those files with your PC. To view it in Windows, you must make several complicated changes to your drivers. I'm sure you do not want to do that. The other way is to use Linux. It has the ability to see and mount multiple partitions on an SD. You can either find someone who has a Linux system to do it for you or you can make yourself a Ubuntu Live CD that you can boot with your PC. None of these options are easy, which is why I was trying to do it the other way on your nook.
I don't know why your system is not mounting that SD properly. Even if those changes I had you make were not there, it should at least mount partition one on the nook.

without usb cable,
1. sd card removed
sd card memory (not available)
Unmount SD card (unmount the sd card for safe removal)
Format sd card (format (erase) the sd card
All are grey/inactive
2. sd card inserted
sd card memory (not available)
Unmount SD card (unmount the sd card for safe removal)
Format sd card (format (erase) the sd card
Now top 2 are inactive, but the third one (format) is active
whenever i insert a card it shows small box flash that shows sd with tick mark, and when i remove it again shows the sd flash box with cross mark.

Dizz, he was trying to figure out how to get his data off of partition 4 before he reformats and starts again. I was hoping he could do it with the nook, but it is not reading it. I had him modify emmc so it can see partition 4, but no luck here. Do you have any ideas?

I just had another thought. Put the card in the PC and open with your partition software. Delete partition one, two and three. Then maybe windows can see partition 4, since it is now partition one. You may have to move it to the beginning of the SD, but I don't think you have to.
Edit: I was able to test this on my spare SD card with the EaseUS partition program and it works. Be sure to give it a drive letter.

No, your installed apps are stored on partition 3. But if you bought them, google lets you redownload and install to as many devices as you want, as long as you are logged in to your Google Play account. What you will get back is things you had stored on 'sdcard' (pictures, books, music and other files like your xls files you wanted, what you saw in that screenshot you posted.)

I had thought of this before I commented about the SD being not formatted correctly... should only have to delete partition 1 ("boot") since windows should use the first fat partition....
However...
Since the nook doesn't show "unmount" or ""sd card memory" active... it is certainly not reading partition 1 correctly.
He can flash my B&N 1.4.1 with SASD vold.fstab edits to see partition 4 (if it can read it) and transfer everything from that partition.
Hey guys,
Ok so i was on CM10 old bootloader, decided to make the switch to
ICS CM10 ( Pengus77 )
Used AIO tool to install new layout then flashed a new recovery CWM
I put the new ROM on external sd card then boot into recovery
Heres the problem , when in recovery E: Cant mount /sdcard/ !
I go to advanced mount /sdcard error mounting /sd card !
How can i install new ROM if i cant see any of my cards?
or cant install any ZIP's through Recovery?
When i plug my phone in PC...i can see two removable disk labeled D: & E:
but i click them : Please insert a disk into the drive...(?)
I tried everything that i know about...wich is not a lot...kind of a noob with all of this.
Any help would be gladly appreciated...kind of lost here
Cheers,
VP
In some recoveries the internal sd is marked as external and vice versa! See as you have changed your bootloader version, internal sd has been completely wiped. But i think just mount the External sd from mounts from CWM..
If you come from gb BL,
1. Nvflash stefan ics v28 and wait to fully reboot your phone
2. Open aio tool
3. Press number 4, 1 for the new ics layout, press 3 for new cwm 6
4. Copy pengus rom on external card
5. Enter cwm first try to access internal and external if this cards can access it show a message "no files found"
6. If the e: can't mount copy the sd card fix and system format ext4 then flash it
7. If you can't access both card try to reformat your system, factory reset, cache and dalvik
8. Flash sd fix and format ext4 again
9. Try to access both cards again

I have been trying to create the SD card. I have followed the following instructions:
"You'll need my CWM early 7.1 image that you'll need to write to an sdcard, at least 4G in size. (gunzip and use dd or winImage)
Also get the the stock image from stock-ovation-2.1.0.zip and either place it to internal storage or reboot from the card and use adb push it to /sdcard (basically it's like you install CM ROM, refer to user-friendly thread in General if you cannot follow my condensed instructions here, only use different file name). Note this already has gapps and other stuff, so you don't need any additional installs other than stock at the beginning."
However, on the SD card there is a partition with 5 files but it is only 110mb and I cannot write the ovation zip file to it. I tried using a partition manager to increase the size of the partition but that did not work. To make sure that i am doing this right I unzip the CWM early 7.1 image and use WIN32 to flash it to the SD card. How do I increas the size of the partition so I can put the ovation zip file on the SD card Thanks

You need to download that file onto your internal storage, e.g. boot your nook without the new SD card, navigate with a browser or other means, and download the file. When you later boot into the cwm on the SD card, you will see the option to apply a zip file from internal storage, and navigate to it from there. You do not want to resize any partitions on SD card.

So the SD card is bootable and the file I need to put on internal storage is the ovations zip file? So once I have rebooted applied the zip is the B&N operating system installed on the SD card so I can delete the zip file on internal memory? Thanks I bought the Nook HD+ rooted and I want to deregister it from the previous owner and register it in my name. I assume this would be the way to do it without returning the Nook to stock. Thanks

i installed 10.1 and upgraded to 10.2 on my nook hd. I downloaded the cm 11 recovery and cm11 rom and gaps to my nook to upgrade to kitkat. After i downloaded the cm 11 to my nook, the updater took me to recovery. i installed the cm 11, but then had problems. I realized that I was using the cm 10 recovery , and should have installed the cm 11 recovery before I attempted to flash the new rom. I then wrote verygreen's sd card image for cm11 and it did boot into recovery. when i tried to install the rom, the device said it couldn't mount the sd card. i tried using the cm 10 recovery image and that didn't work either. same message, couldn't mount sd card. I then formatted cache, data, boot, did another wipe and same issue. currently, it takes a long time but the nook hd will boot into cm recovery, but same issue about not able to mount sd card. I checked similar threads for other devices, but I couldn't find any solutions. I called barnes and noble customer assistance and they were totallyuseless. My question is how do i get recovery to mount my sd card?
ditto
I had the same issue on my nook hd-
When I wrote the image to the sd card- I could boot in to CWM 6.0.4.6, from that sd card- but it could not mount the sd card, or find any files on it. so I couldn't flash the emmc version. When I pulled that sd card out, it reverted back to cwm 6.0.3.2 (which worked fine with cm10.1) but again, it still can't find the sd card.
/sdcard is the internal sd and while is mounted and navigatable, it's blank and there's nothing to install from it. (is there a way to copy to it from some other device?)
the other option is to install a zip from /storage/sdcard1 but that does nothing but pop up
E: Can't mount /storage/sdcard1
or
Error mounting /storage/sdcard1

I've been following and using the info in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600572
I've used both a linux machine with dd and a windows machine with Win 32 disk imager for flashing images.
I've tried a variety of file systems (does anyone know what is the preferred file system for a grossly oversized micro sd card for CM11?).
I've tried to find a newer better version of CWM, and have found references to a 6.0.4.5b but haven't actually found the files yet.
have also tried sideloading with adb, but the device is never found. with either version of cwm
Would be ok moving back to cm10 as well, but as long as it can't find a SD card, I don't know how.
love this little device, would greatly appreciate any assistance.
-dingo
continued
after much banging of my head against the wall, I discovered that if i let it boot to the 6.0.3.2 on its own, it would let me mount the sd card that had the initial image written onto it.
So i loaded the new cwm zip and flashed it.
pulled the sd card out and had to let it reboot on its own 4 or 5 times before it popped up emmc CWM based recovery 6.0.4.6
..which then let me mount the sd card as /external_sd and I was able to flash the latest cm11 nightly (yes, I'm a glutton for punishment).
I've pulled the sd card out and rebooted...
AND IT'S BOOTING!!!!
...this is awesome.
Success
i changed sd cards and downloaded the recovery, rom, and gapps on the new card. Recovery was able to mount the new card and I got everything installed. Initially recovery aborted the rom installation, so I downloaded another cm10.1 and was able to flash it. So everything is good now.
