[Q] Odin4.43 problem. - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi..
I am facing an issue with Odin v4.43 .
My Laptop specs are :
USB3.0
HP-pavilion dv6 - 7023Tx (intel i7 3610QM)
OS : Windows 8 -64 bit
.
When i run this application and connect my samsung galaxy S plus device through USB cable, It don't detect Comport nor even displayed "Added" in Message box.
I even installed its 64 bit USB driver but still not. Why?
==================================================================
Whenever i run this application through my old laptop (P4, OS is Windows 7 32 bit and USB2.0 ).
It works and detect the comports and display added in message box.
How could i solve this issue in my new Laptop because i 'll have to leave my old laptop.

Did you already try this:

hi Gripping,
I installed the same driver on my new laptop but didn't follow the step as mentioned in your refered article.
I try with it then 'll share my experience .

I was having same problem when I tried to flash with odin (not 4.43). I managed to install the drivers using Heimdall suite 1.3.1. Heimdall comes with drivers folder and a application called zadig inside the drivers folder. It did not work right away but after trail and error it finally showed up as samsung usb driver. sometimes you have to restart your phone to be recognised by your computer. I did on windows 7 too and also I have i9000M. Hopefully will work for you too.

Thanks osterizerble, i have tried many times with different approaches but didn't work.
This is an issue with this machine or might be with 64 bit OS to install its accurate driver completely.
It works smoothly in my old machine without any effort.
It seems Odin V4.43 have the capability to operate through 32-bit systems too.
Thats' the restrictions , i think so.

I have Windows 8 x 64 bit too and I have already successfully flashed a stock Rom to my SGS using Odin.
I used an older version of Odin, I think it's version 1.3.
But my phone wasn't recognized immediately by the PC.
I think it took 2 or 3 times re-starting and re-booting my phone & PC before my phone was finally recognized by Odin.
I used the USB drivers from SamHaLeKe's thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11498043&postcount=1

Thansk Gripping and everyone for putting an effort of resolution.
Gripping I am pretty sure,Odin 4.43 will not work.
because i have been tried too mauch with every USB driver with Samsung Kies and after uninstalling it too.
I used SAMSUNG USB Drivers for Mobile Phones (x86 & x64) v1.5.16.0 driver too but it couldn't worked.
Yes Old , I think Odin 3 V1.8 detect Comports and display a message "Added" in Message box.
But i have tried it too, it start flashing and then stuck in no limit of time.
Moreover, i 'll make another try today night again. Hope this may help but i have already tired with it .

It's a good thing nothing happened to your phone when it got stuck in the middle of flashing.
It happened to me twice already, during flashing via Odin, it got stucked and won't continue running. (In my old Windows 7 and recently with Windows 8)
I have no choice but to close Odin and disconnect my phone.
After disconnection, my phone became "hard-bricked". No buttons responding whatsoever.
I was lucky (twice already) to revive my phone and brought it to download mode by doing the following:
1. remove the battery for a few minutes
2. connect the phone to PC via USB cable
3 press the vol down - home button - power buttons and at the same time insert the battery.
After reviving my phone, flashing via Odin became smooth already.

My computer is still giving a same message.
USB drive not recognized and when i come into the device manager, it display 3 wrong things in Other devices.
-> PCI Device
-> Unknown device.
->Unknown device.

i have already tried with it.
As i Gripping suggest in his first post.
My computer is not recognizing this device.
Moreover, i have tried with solution again but same response.
It says "The best software for your device is already installed".
but i connect my phone, it add three more devices with error as i mentioned in above post.
It shows in device manager "SAMSUNG USB Composite Device".
and when i see the device status
it displays
This device cannot start. Code 10
A request for the USB BOS descriptor failed.

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

Please help
You dont mention Kies installed .
Install Kies on phone go to settings and select mass storage mode .
Connect USB cable wait for pc to find phone and install drivers .
jje
yeah sorry kies is installed i tried different versions of that aswell.
There is an install driver option in Kees, try to re-install driver. Be aware that in kies it takes too long to install driver(don't know why), for long time it will show 100% in progress bar but wait until you get driver successfully installed driver message in Kies, it tool more than 10 mins.
Just fixed the similar problem today only, on Windows 7 64 bit, was struggling to but re-installation worked. Earlier I also tried reinstall driver but I thought it stuck on installation so I canceled but not today I gave it full time hence I said wait till you get success message. I didn't connected the device till driver installed.
May be your problem will also get fixed by this, nothing wrong in trying.

[Q] Galaxy Tab Driver Problem

Hi to all,
I hope people here can help me solve my gt problem connecting with my pc (win7), I already download this Samsung_P1000_USB_Drivers and install to my computer, still Kies cannot detect my tab.
Some say you don't need any driver if you're using Win7 but why I encounter this problem.
Some say you need to turn off the USB Debugging before you connect your tab from your pc but still I encounter this problem.
Some say install the driver from Kies built-in driver but still encountering this problem.
My GT O/S still stock, its still intact since I out my GT from the box.
Please share me your experience if you encounter this problem and how you solve it, I can't flash any rom because my pc can't detect my tab at all.

Guys need your help regarding my problem.
Try to uninstall the drivers. You can do that with many uninstaller programs or you can use system restore. Go to settings and set galaxy tab connectivity to samsing kies. Connect your galaxy tab (make sure to disable debugging mode). Windows will install drivers which might take a few minutes. As for odin try to go to downloas mode by holding volume down and power button. If you get a yellow shade with com#. Your tab is recognised and connected.
Hope it helps!
Same issue with Kies not detecting SGT
I'm new to the forum, and a new SGT owner, so my knowledge is limited. I have been researching these forums along with some help from the unlockr.com. Kies would not detect my tab. I downloaded the Samsung New PC Studio, and was able to have my drivers downloaded through this software. My tab is now rooted. I still don't know what else to do with the rooted tab at this point, but I'm still researching.

Hi dxwilliams40,
What Samsung New PC Studio version you have?
Can you give me the url where you get this software?
Also, can you give me the procedure on how you get the driver using this Samsung New PC Studio?
TIA.

Yes, it goes to recharge mode, this is the only thing I can only use between my gt and my computer is to recharge.
To all XDA member's who have this problem before and solve it, please share it to me, I can't move from here I have a good device but I can't maximize the use of it.
Regards to all,
Yes as a matter of fact i have more ideas. Press on menu button while on home screen, go to settings then wireless network and then choose usb settings. Choose ask on connection, if your tab is set on kies. If its set on mass storage set on kies, we all know windows installs no drivers for mass storage. Also try connecting tab on other computer and see if it connects preferrably with other OS. Sorry to disagree still doesnt seem worrying because i faced problem with a samsung mp3 player which used to give me hell with connecting using mtp (media transfer protocol). If it connects to other computers download mtp protocol from microsoft website manually. I will dig it up for you if you report that its working on other computers. Also will dig drivers from my own W7 machine 64 bit to see if it helps.
EDIT did a quick search online. Connect your galaxy tab in kies mode WHIlLE installing kies. Seemed to help many android galaxy S users.

Hi DarkPal,
I do 1 by 1 your advice but in the ended it's still the same, I installed MTP from your link but my PC can't detect my GT.
I attached my GT from our 2 laptops both Win7 but they can't detect also my GT.
Hope you have more plan
TIA
Still more plans. I have phd with samsung devices not connecting to many windows pcs (dunno if faulty drivers submitted to microsoft by samsung or issue in an end user enviroment. Anyway few question: is your galaxy in usb debugging mode? Tap menu then choose settings applications development. Make sure USB is not in debugging mode.
EDIT: is the usb charging fine? Is there any USB detections on tab screen. I read reports of faulty usb cables. If you have another SGT cable try it and see if it connects.
If uave the luxury connect other mtp devices like ipod or ipad or othe media players. This will sure exclude a pc or OS problem.
EDIT2 Here is a guide i followed back in mp3 days:
Go to samsung support site and download latest samsung kies (must be latest) and uninstaller package.
If u still have kies uninstall it with this package. If not run it anyway to remove any residual files. A cleaner program will clean as well.
Reboot your pc and your SGT.
Install samsung kies (make sure you run it as an administrator whether setup or program launch).
Now in your galaxy tab make sure usb settings is set to kies.
Fire up kies and connect your galaxy tab.
If there is no signs of connections. Access device manager and look for any imprperly connected device (would show as a yellow exclamation mark or saying unknown device). Reinstall kies USB driver. Disconnect tab and reconnect.
Few important notes:
Connect tab directly to the pc not via usb hub or similar apparatus (tab takes power from pc as well as data).
Update your windows media player to latest version (i know its bloated and hogs system resources but it has latest mtp repositories).
Always execute command as an adminstrator. Whether launching or installing.
I had the same problem long time ago. I solved changing the USB port. Befor I used the front case one...the I switch the port in one of the back case and it was working without any issue. Try this. I hope it help!

Hi Again;
Debugging mode is off when I tested all your instruction on my sgt.
I uninstall Kies restart, download from samsung Kies 2.0.0.11014_49 and install it again, restart, test sgt fail again.
Win7 detect my sgt when you put on usb.
My sgt can recharge on my win7.
iPhone 3gs, iPhone 4, Blackberry 9780, iPad Wifi+3g all working with the same usb I use for sgt.
I hope you still have option that we can test
it look like you having problem with the data cable..... do you have another cable to try!
Well 2 options. A trick I never understood by Samsung support. Remove the Cable from PC while on keys wait 30 seconds and repeat procedure 3 times. Hopefully it will detect.
Also Cable could be the culprit as Ironically All SGT don't have exact same cables. You have to make sure you buy exact stock cable if you need a replacement. Ebay cables fail almost always even if it does the charge function.
you said w7 detects SGT when you put on USB. What type of detection Care to elaborate?

" USB Device Not Recognized " error occur when you put sgt on my computer.
And the removal of USB cable doesn't work also.
This is the original cable came from sgt box, it's new like 3 months only, anyway I will try to buy another cable and I hope this will work.
But anything you want me to try much appreciated, dunno where I can find original sgt cable, specially you mention buying online we don't know if genuine from samsung.
tnx man.
If device shows in device manager with yellow excalmation mark right click and uninstall unplug and try to plug the device again. And I Think i found a solution as odd as it seems first remove all usb devices connected to your pc ,flash drives, phones, pdas etc . You can even uninstall it by removing these devices from the device manager to uninstall these drives completely so they can be identified newly. Here is the weird part shutdown i mean pull the plug on computer wait 5 minutes to restart. A cold boot forces computer to reidentify usb ports. Reconnect and see if it works.
Also update your pc motherboard controllers from your pc driver site if w7 doesnt natively identify it.
EDIT follow this link instructions: www.ntcompatible.com/Desperately_need_help_---_USB_Devices_Not_Recognized_t32356.html. Seem to helped others.

[Q] Bricked Captivate -- Unique Situation?

I've flashed 6-8 ROMS on a couple different phones, so not a total noob, but I bow to the vastly superior knowledge here:
My Captivate was running CM7.1 stable from October with no further mods since. I hadn't flashed anything or really messed with the phone in awhile. I was just using the same phone in the same config I had been for 6 months.
A few days ago, CM7 started to force close all my programs. Annoying, but not a problem that rebooting wouldn't probably fix. Rebooted into bootloop (skater logo). 3 Button didn't put me into CWM Recovery, nor would any button combos get me to download mode.
Homemade a jig and got the phone into Download mode, with Odin One Click up and ready to flash to stock. Odin read the phone and I started the flash, but it hung at DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET for a couple hours. I checked on this forum to see what was next. All the previous posts just said to pull battery, re-jig, and start again.
This time, I didn't get the skater, I got the comp!phone. All button & USB combos I've read here bring me comp!phone (even the "hold until two blank screens" one). My PC won't recognize the phone now (so neither will Odin or Heimdall), even after I've reinstalled the Samsung drivers. I've read here that you can flash from the comp!phone screen, but the PC has to see your phone first, obviously.
So I guess I want to know how screwed I am. Magic tips on a easy fix would be just outstanding, too! Is the fact that I wasn't flashing or anything when it bombed interesting to anyone? Thanks in advance...
not sure it's identical but this worked for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15330252#post15330252

Zadig won't load drivers for Heimdall 1-click
I'd tried Heimdall 1-Click Unbrick, but the problem again seems to be with the phone not being recognized. Unbrick runs, fails, and asks if the phone is plugged in.
It refers me to the Resolution Center, where Zadig tries to load the driver, for Captivate, but can't. Zadig provides a dropdown list of devices (my cam, printer, mass storage devices, wireless mouse/keyboard etc.), but the phone isn't listed, and I've tried every USB port. Which is too bad, because that seems like a great tool.

If you are still stuck...
Did you actually load a full version of Heimdall? Once I used unbrick as a mini-program. Another time I had to install a full version on my computer in order to get my phone and computer to communicate (that may be the missing driver step).
I know you have probably already done so but search the threads for AdamOutler and his work with Heimdall.
If you're using windows, windows update might be installing the drivers automatically. You might want to disable this feature, uninstall the current drivers and install new ones.
You can also try another pc that doesn't have any installed drivers - just to make sure...

Did you try manually installing the Samsung/Google usb drivers ? That's the usual culprit since stock are Samsung drivers and roms ( if its Aosp/Cyanogen) the Google drivers prime in that case.
Nearly Identical Problem
I've got the same problem with my Captivate...tried everything I've found in the forums but nothing works.
Background:
I had connection issues before trying to flash, but thought it was a driver issue with my Windows 7 machine. Which is why I had loaded the file onto the SD card when I attempted to upgrade to ICS. During the flash the phone hung and I eventually removed the plug and battery to see if I could reboot. I can get up to the Galaxy S I9000 screen, or the "Downloading..." screen, but I cannot get to the recovery menu or past the initial boot screen. My wife's captivate (same batch) IS recognized by the computer in "download mode" and in the USB transfer mode.
Attempts:
- Installed/uninstalled Kies many times
- Bought and tried a new data cable
- Installed/uninstalled the Galaxy S driver and the Captivate driver many times
- Tried Zadig, Odin, Heimdale, and Adb
- Used programs to remove USB devices and clean registry
- Installed Linux and tried within that OS
- Re-installed Windows 7
- Tried most of the above on my Windows XP system
Has anyone been successful in getting the computer to recognize a Captivate in this circumstance?

if u r still facing the problem..and problem isnt solved then just clean the pin of usb connector pin of ur phone...with a thin metal pin..or something like that...
and then u r good to go...
If all else fails...
I managed to brick my Captivate trying to get MUIU off my phone and flash back to Cognition. After many frustrating hours, I contacted Josh at mobiletechvideos.com. He fixed my phone and upgraded me to ICS for $50.00. I mailed my phone to him on a Thursday and received it back the following Friday.

CAPTIVATE - Frozen on AT&T Boot, Unrecognized via USB, NO access to CWM - PLEASE HELP
HI - I've been fighting this captivate for over 48 hours. Being very familiar with all this, and not doing this for the first time either, the fact that I can't get this resolved drives me insane as I have never been so mentally exhausted in being incapable of resolving a problem, thus seeking professional guidance from the Gods on mobile technology!
HERE IS THE SPIEL:
Device: Samsung Captivate i897 (Device is rooted)
Software: AOKP build.38
Kernel: IcyGlitch v14
CWM: Installed v.5-----
The Problem
Device stuck at AT&T Logo - Not Looping (just stuck)
Windows XP Professional SP3 (x86) with all recommended USB drivers will not detect device. Device Manager displays the phone as unknown, regardless of drivers & upon inputting it into a USB (2.0) windows displays a message "USB Device is not recognized".
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (x64) brings up identical message as that of Windows XP with all proper & recommended drivers with the phone recognized as "unknown"
Device boots into download mode via holding Vol.+/- and plugin in USB cable. Both Heimdall & Odin can't recognized the device when it's in UNKNOWN state by windows. Although all drivers are installed.
Purchased new Micro USB cable - NOTHING - that's testing all USB ports on all my systems.
The Story:
The device was working flawlessly being able to mount as mass storage on both my Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (x64) & Windows XP Professional SP3 (x86) until i've upgraded to AOKP build #38. The upgrade was successful (2 months ago). 2 days ago, i decided to upgrade to AOKP build #40. The device was not recognized as mass storage but rather "Unknown Device" or "USB Device not Recognized" - although the phone was in full working condition (USB Debugging was enabled). After some reading, I realized that the AOKP build #38 has a bug where there was a problem with mounting & the camera was not functioning since it had no access to external_sd (a problem that was very irritating since the update, but i had no time to look into it until recently). I followed a similar tutorial (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1545801) which required the editing of the vold.fstab file with Root Explorer, resolving the issue of external_sd becoming accessible on the phone with camera working, however unable to mount and copy the new AOKP Build 40 ROM through Windows to flash via CWM.
At this point I booted into CWM via holding volume +/- & power button. Wiped everything, and loaded a backup I've done a # of months ago where everything was working perfectly. There was an error when it was "...loading data image" which is normal, so I did it again and the error persisted. On the second attempt, it again re-sent me primary CWM menu where i was intending to now load another backup. I accidentally clicked the restart button, having already cleaned the devlick cache, etc, including user data which brought me this NIGHTMARE of problems.
I will be forever grateful the the kind soul which will help me resolve this, as I am at a phase of taking this samsung captivate and throwing it against a wall.
I assume you can still access recovery? Try putting CM9 on the external SD with a card reader, and flashing that...
EDIT: Just saw you can't access CWM... Try recovery again... all three until ATT comes up, immediately let off power... Try multiple times... Leave the battery out, hold all three, have someone else insert it, and let off power at ATT... When going into download mode, leave the battery out, hook it up, hold boths vols, and insert the battery...
The Unknown device issue....
Uninstall your drivers... Here are drivers to manually install, they are 64bit... so try right clicking the Unknown device in device manager and doing a manual driver update...

B-Naughty: Thank you. I have tried this & that no luck. Even loaded Linux Mint 13, however heimdall is being a !*&#@ in loading the firmware...Perhaps if you would know any (proper) packages for a Samsung Captivate i897 via heimdall id be grateful. I used heimdall-suite-1.3.2 command line & frontend. Will try again tomorrow. Although still haven't figured out whether or not it read the phone in Linux (it's a different world for me)
4-2ndtwin: My friend, thank you for the detailed link. I have been doing this for over 48 hours ... nothing. I'll give it another shot via Linux, if not i'll try Ubuntu. Truly am just confused out of my mind, never had this before.
PS: The phone's data is wiped & it's stuck at AT&T when loaded via power button. Booting into DOWNLOAD MODE isn't a problem. All combination to load into recovery, did not work. I mean...there must be a way! There always is...Any further ideas or should i simply through it out and buy a Galaxy SIII?
I897UCKK4 Stock, Wipe, with option to install Bootloaders, Param, and Repartition-Heimdall One-Click
And try all of your USB cords, I don't know what you bought, but a bad one, or a lot of times an aftermarket one won't work...
Edit:
I saw you can get into download mode. So my original post doesn't help much.
Have you tried installing the Andoid SDK and downloading the nexus drivers from there? Perhaps your device now thinks it is a nexus. It might be worth a shot.

This happened to me and I just reflash the boot loader and reinstalled the same from to keep my data
Decrapitated Samsung
Thank you all for the support.
At this point I've installed SDK Manager w/Google USB revision 6, latest Java, all proper drivers...nothing. Tried all usbs on all systems.
Q: If the phone goes into download mode, is it not in a default state and must be detected? I have a samsung galaxy tab 10.1, detects immediately. Samsung YPS3 mp3 player detects immediately - Samsung Captivate however, nothing...
I set up a clean Windows 7 Ultimate x64bit (all june 2012 updates + .Net 4.0). Installed all usb drivers...same thing, UNKNOWN DEVICE - so the usb cable works...but now when you go and manually upgrade driver via device manager, it says that the best driver for the unknown device is already installed.
Anyone want's a free captivate lol...
At this point...I dont even know what to ask...since i've tried everything. I'll try to revisit Ubuntu & Linux later this evenings and report status!
Thanks for the I897UCKK4 Stock, Wipe, with option to install Bootloaders, Param, and Repartition-Heimdall One-Click link, i can't use it since the phone isn't detected by the application
I would say you need to uninstall any/all drivers for your captivate. This includes heimdall installed drivers. Make sure to uninstall the drivers for the "unknown" device also.

Seems as though you have a hardware problem with the phone, or a s/w problem so messed up you're down to Unbrickable Mod

He had a fresh Windows install and install drivers...
Unbrickable MOD - wont be able to do this my self, would need an electric to look into it. I mean the phone isn't bricked, it accesses download mode i just have to get it to connect via usb to be read as a "samsung composite device" to flash the bootloader. As now, it would be stuck at the AT&T screen without giving access to CWM.
I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 - set up java 7 - loaded Heimdall One-Click stock rom provided above via java...tried all USB's phone not detected via DOWNLOAD MODE. Phone not detected at all!
This is just insane...If it's in DOWNLOAD MODE, it should be accessible, not the contrary. Ubuntu doesn't need usb drivers, should be plug&play...Both XP & Win7Ultimate at least recognized the phone as an unknown device. On Ubuntu it does nothing at all, as if it never was plugged in.
The microusb slot on the phone is not damaged / cable is stock, also have another one from Staples. The system w/XP is reading all devices on a plug&play basis and read the captivate before flawlessly. Same applies to the Asus P43 laptop, which read the device without hesitation on Win7 Ultimate x64. The Ubuntu is now on the laptop...tried connecting the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Samsung) it recognized it immediately...with full access to files etc.
Last plea for Ideas...before i'll send this captivate to hell, to where the journey isn't captivating at all!
It sounds like you have a bad flash. You need jtag to fix this issue. Contact mobiletechvideos and Josh should be able to repair it for you. I think at this point you've tried every other option.

did u try reverting back to stock using ODIN 1 Click Stock Firmware Installer? there's a tutorial on youtube by mobiletechvideos original post by connexion2005.
Samsung Captivate (ODIN 1 Click Stock Firmware Installer)
youtube.com/watch?v=UDtxnH4lFuk
I would like to have that free captivate thou :good:
Same Problem
i have the same prob and if i try to recovery mode (i.e. by pressing volume buttons and power button simultaneously)
i get following type of errors
"E:failed to mount /cache (Invalid argument)
E:Can't mount/cache/recovery/recovery_kernel_log
E:copy_kernel_file :: Can't open /cache/recovery/recovery_kernel_log"
kindly sugeest some way out
I have done everything possible to get it connected and recognized by the PC & all is failing. I have tried to "manually" install the Samsung composite Device driver via "have disk method in Device Manager.
In XP:
I load device manager and than do the following:
Click Universal Serial Bus Controllers
Right click "unknown device" which is the captivate
Select Update Driver
Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)
Select Don't Search. I will choose the driver to install. (Click Next)
Select "Have Disk" with the (show compatible devices) checked
Browse to the directory of extracted 32bit Windows XP Drivers: SGH-i897_Captivate_USB_Drivers_5_02_0_2
Select "ssadadb2.inf" & click open
And than i get the msg saying:The specified location does not contain information about your hardware
...WTF... I mean really...
Windows 7 Ultimate:
Same procedure as above until you select have disk, pick a proper x64 driver provided by XDA - also tried the Universal_Naked_Driver_Beta_0.6 ...there was progress that got me very excited - the Phone was detected as: Samsung Android Composite Device. Was I happy...until i clicked next and got this msg:Samsung Android USB Composite Device - This device cannot start. (Code10)...
There must be a solution: I had the phone bricked when i first tried to change from stock rom, managed to load it in download mode, and it was detected fine on all systems via USB with the same accessories, worked like a charm...so when this happened i wasn't concerned, as i thought id follow standard procedure, accept it did not work.
Anyone?
Let's try this since you seem to be stuck in a boot loop.
Code:
adb wait-for-device reboot recovery
Make sure your phone is plugged in and reboot it. If your machine recognizes the phone at any point in the boot process it will kick it into recovery.
Once there you can try to restore the backup again.
If this doesn't work, you will most likely need JTAG service. Because of the bad image flash your device might not "think" it is a Captivate any longer and that's why the drivers aren't working.
Red_81 :Thank You. Would you please be more specific & put into a 1,2,3...process?
1. Power off device
2. Plug in to computer
3. Open a command prompt
4. Navigate to adb.exe (android sdk or inside my kk4 root utility)
5. Enter command above
6. Boot up phone.
7. Hopefully go into recovery

Thank you. I've been endlessly fighting the achievement of the PC systems to detect the captivate & no results. Thank you all for you help...when i have time i'll JTAG this device, or probably not even going to bother and pick up a SGIII. By the way Red_81:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1680048 is an amazing app, if only my phone was detected as it's recognized as unknown device, so there isn't much it can do. Although i highly recommend it to anyone else whose phone is detected.

Hard brick help 911

I'm in a big predicament. A few weeks ago I installed the MOAR ROM on my Note 5. After installing this ROM I was no longer able to connect my phone to PC. I tried a Windows 8 PC which says I have an unrecognized USB device plugged in. I tried going into Developer settings to set USB mode to MTP but the option didn't exist. I had all USB drivers installed as well. My wife's phone is recognized no problem. When plugging the phone into my linux machine absolutely nothing happened. It used to show the phone in the left navigation panel in my window manager but after installing MOAR ROM it was no longer detected.
Anyway, today I was trying to play Cartoon Wars 3 and since my phone is rooted it wouldn't let me play. I decided to go into the Super User app and disable it to see if the game would work and it didn't. When I went to re-enable the app it said installation failed and asked me to reboot. I clicked reboot and was sent into a boot loop. I thought okay no big deal, I'll just restore a backup in TWRP. When I go to restore the backup and select the backup file it asks which partitions to restore, but there are no boxes to check. It usually has options like system and data but now it's just blank. I tried a factory reset and I'm still in a bootloop. I'm at a complete loss. I don't know what else to do. I've tried download mode and everything but no matter what I do my phone isn't detected by my pc.
I appreciate any help. I don't know what to do. I'm out of a phone right now and don't have a backup. Not to mention I'm in between jobs right now and can't afford a new one right now.
Just flash a stock rom from sammobile.com
Pre req:
*Odin(any vers)
*Stock rom
Steps
*Extract the downloaded stock rom in your PC
*In twrp wipe everything except internal, then boot in to download mode.
*Once in download mode, connect your phone to your pc, then open Odin.
*In Odin, check the "AP" section and locate the downloaded stock rom(the extracted one)
*Hit start.
Hpe that helps

Thank you for your reply but it seems you didn't read my post. My phone is not recognized by any pc.
What is the terminal command to restore a backup? That's pretty much my last ditch effort.
Well I broke my recovery so I'm screwed. I contacted Samsung and they said they would service it for free. Wish me luck.
What would cause the phone to stop being recognized by the PC? I narrowed it down to the MTP software or the micro usb charge port. My Windows computer says Device Descriptor Request Failed. Linux box does nothing. No USB devices are listed when I run lsblk.

when your phone is in download mode,it doesn't work to connect it with samsung kies on your pc?
You could try using the Kies software to reload the stock firmware. Here's an overview of what to do:
- if you don't already have the Kies software installed on your PC, download it (just search Google) and install it. The first time it runs it'll update itself to the latest version so make sure you run it once before proceeding.
- put your phone in Download mode: with the phone completely off, press and hold the Volume Down and Home and Power buttons simultaneously, and release them all when you see the Samsung splash screen
- connect the phone to your PC with the USB cable that came with the phone
-- if you've never had the phone connected to your Windows-based computer before, you'll see messages about installing drivers, etc - just wait until this is done (may take 5 or 10 minutes) [I don't know what happens if you have a Mac - it probably just works]
- in the Kies software, select the second item in the Tools menu and just follow the prompts to enter the model number (in CAPS) and IMEI/Serial Number (both found under the battery - it's ok to remove the battery at this point)
- the Kies software should start downloading the correct firmware for your phone from the Internet; once that's done (depending on your Internet connection speed) it'll begin downloading that to the phone (this probably takes 10 minutes or so)

Kies doesn't work either. I already tried that. When I hook up the phone It says "Device Descriptor Request Failed". It used to connect to my computers until I put MOAR ROM on the phone. Since then it stopped being recognized by my computers. There's either something wrong with the connection or something got corrupted.

What have you already tried?
- are you sure you're using a data cable and not a charging-only cable?
- have you tried a different computer?
- have you installed the Kies software?
- what does Device Manager show when the phone is connected?
- assuming that the phone is working normally, does the phone show anything when you connect it?
- do you have try windows 8 or 10?
can be you found a solution in this forum

I've tried 4 different cables. My wife's S5 works perfectly fine on all computers. I have tried in Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10. I've also tried in Linux Mint. It used to work until I installed MOAR Rom. Windows says Device Descriptor Request Failed. Linux doesn't do anything when hooked up. lsblk doesn't show the device either.
I have a bit of an update. Apparently something happened with all my data cables. I hooked up my wife's phone the other day and I was all of a sudden receiving the same error as the note 5. I went out and bought a new data cable and now her phone connects again. I'm waiting for the Note 5 to charge up so I can try Odin. I'll post back my results.
I apologize to those who told me it was the cable. I just didn't see that it was conceivable that all 4 of my data cables were all of a sudden damaged. Never underestimate the ability of children to destroy every working cable you own.
Well I'm still getting the error. I have some usb cables coming in the mail so once i try those out I'll get back to everyone.

Were you able to fix your issue. I have the same issue. Note 5 N9208, I can get into Recovery (TWRP) and Download mode, but can not boot. The USB connection is showing USB Device Descriptor failed. I have tried 5 different cables and Windows 7/10 Ubuntu and cant get the phone to show up on the PC. I also have changed the USB port of the phone. Any insight would be helpful.

I ended up trying to replace the port and accidentally cut the ribbon for the LCD screen. Ended up getting a new phone.
