My work email requires the phone and external storage to be encrypted to use the Microsoft Exchange server for email.
Email worked fine while on ICS and rooted. After upgrading to JB 4.1.1 (kept root with vodoo root keeper ) the email stopped with a notice I needed to change my security settings. There was nothing I could change.
Deleted the account and when I try to set it up new- I get a message that I can't continue as the IT policy requires external encryption.
Under security> encrypt SD card>Setup data encryption Memory card (along the top) and apply (along the bottom) are grayed out.
I erased the SD card and that did not work.
Tried to continue setup without an SD card- no go.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Hi guys,
I need some help,
I was trying to change my SD card (16gb) to my HTC 8GB stock one. I copied all files from the 16gb to my pc and then to the 8gb card.
But when running apps on the 8gb they don't open, it gives an error something like "it's not signed or a component is missing"!! It says the same thing for all apps on the SD card.
I installed again the 16gb card and it now gives the same error!
I noticed that there is a folder on the sd card called "Windows Mobile - ActiveSync" with a certificate in it! I don't remember installing any certificate, but I have my exchange account configured on the device.
Do you guys have any clue what could be the problem?
Also in activesync the phone it's not syncing (but it connects) and I can't connect anymore with my exchange account via 3G!
I was noticing in the last days that my data connection (3G) was connecting many times, and I had it in manualy connecting only.
Ps: I was doing a backup of the SD card before testing the android build...
It looks like that I also can't reinstall the apps!
I notice also that some apps I have it on the phone memory and not on the SD card, but neither from SD or phone they run!
The fix seems to be formating the SD card on the phone and not in windows, and then copy the data in to the card.
this is strange. when i connect usb to pc..i get message about problem with connecting due to security policy. even when media scanner runs it cant scan external sd due to security policy that restricts user...? what does that mean? though am able to access both internal and external on pc.i am on docs 2.1 with cf root.
i reflashed everything and no more security policy for sdcard.
I am cloning my SD card with Win Imager and putting it on another SD for a friend to make their life easier. Is there a way, once cloned, to delete all my data from this cloned SD card? I was going to reset the nook color to factory defaults with the cloned card in it, but I am not sure if this my data stored on the SD or internally on the nook. When I put my card back in I want all my data to be present still, just cleared from the clone. Is the account info stored internally or on the SD?
Also, I do not want to lose all my app progress.
So, I would like to clone a card for a friend but make it so they don't get my emails and have all my user data tied to the SD card I am sending them. Is this possible?
Any help is appreciated!
UPDATE: new problem. Wiping data doesn't work. I want my account off the card but nothing works. I select factory reset and erase SD. It finishes, restarts, and my email data is still intact. CM7 is booting from the SD card if that matters. What the...
Why not just create one from scratch. It takes half an hour, especially if you did one before?
Do your friend has his own NC? or using yours also?
Deleting accounts.db from data/system will delete all google accounts from the phone and *should* take access to the associated data with it. Removing the other app data is probably trickier. Don't do this on your NC before you have a backup though.
welp I may be screwed, but thought I would ask the pros.
I always back up my sdcard personal files, but the media files (music I don't). I have a 128GB card and I am trying to save myself some rebuild time.
I encrypted my external 128gb sd card in android (I have my data backed up thank goodness), but I have full wiped the phone, to install a new rom (full wipe and factory reset).
I have rest the screen password to the same encrypted password, yet when I reboot the phone (installed new rom from separate external sd card since TWRP wont write from an encrypted sd card), the phone is fine, but the card is still being shown as "checking sdcard for errors"
is there any way to restore access to the encrypted card since I full wiped? I know that I can just reformat the card back to fat32, but I really don't want to sit and transfer 100gb of flac files again.
Hello,
For e-mail I am using K9Mail. Attachments are saved to a directory on the external SD card. Since the upgrade to Oreo K9Mail no longer seems to have write access. If I check the app permissions, it has read and write permission for the SD card. Why can't K9Mail write to the SD card?
I have another app, Locus Map, that since the upgrade to Oreo says there is a problem opening a database. That database is also on the SD card. Could this be the same problem?
What has changed here between Nougat and Oreo? How can I get back the write access to the SD card?
