Hi,
I've tried some ICS roms for the D3, SteelDroid, Liberty, Gummy .9, and Gummy 1.3. I also have minimoto for stability.
My question is if anyone knows the differences/has the changelog between Gummy .9 and 1.3...I had to flash twice to get calling working on 1.3, and wifi tether won't work, but *both* work on .9, and I was wondering if there were any convincing reasons to be more up-to-date than .9.
AFAIK, nothing ICS for D3 has video camera, and they're all *supposed* to have the same functionalities (Steel/Liberty/AOKP/CM9/Gummy), but the Gummy versions have been by far the smoothest, and .9 has what I want (Everything except front camera and video camera.)
Since the devs seem to have disappeared, I can't find the changelog I want...
Thanks!
Liberty 2 is Gingerbread. The camera works fine.

Well now that we finally got an Android version of Instagram, I am having trouble getting it to work. Already tried on Eternity and CM7. Have any of you had any luck?
Works fine on my Thunderbolt with SkyRaider Zeus Rom.
Running just fine on Eternity 248 here.
Well you guys are having much better luck than me
On the latest eternity I was getting FCs after taking a pic and on CM7 I was getting white screens. Working now on Factory ROM though. Thanks for the help, guys.
Just tested it out on BAMF and it works fine for me.
I am having the same issue as OP, but its not worth it to me to change roms. Hopefully instagram updates to fix issue.
Btw what are the stock dpi settings for thunderbolt?

Team Gummy's ICS for the Bionic has a working camera. Newest version is 1.0.2 as of the timestamp on this post.
But isn't it just the still camera and not the video camera working in Gummy?

Yep, the change-log still indicates that video recording isn't working...that was the single feature that kept me from making it my daily. If you don't mind not having the video recording at your disposal, its almost perfect.

CM9 is usable, but far from perfect
short list of pretty big issues:
-no video camera
-no video chat
-opera mobile doesnt work
-no hw graphics acceleration - google chrome doesn't work, etc.
-a little sluggish in some areas. Especially Google Maps.
-Data is really weird. Sometimes it will break after a reboot and it's difficult to get it working. But once its working it will work great until you reboot again.
That said, I am currently using it. But debating going back to something like eclipse bcause of sluggish perf in some areas and no video.
dhacker29's cm9 bionic port
I just restored back to stock from the most recent nightly build of cm9 from dhacker29.
The reason for the restore was because bluetooth and making calls did not work. Camera and camcorder worked.
Hope the next couple builds address these issues cause the rom ran so smoothly!
There is a thread i created last week that has CM9 for anyone on the ICS leaks. EVERYTHING WORKS!!!. The Camera and Video.. I am currently on it and its amazing.. The link to the thread is below that outlines everything.

I tried the latest CM9 ICS build and the BT Phone link still has noise making it unusable to anyone that needs Eclipse quality voice performance....
I see that ICS for the Droid 4 has been released - which I guess leaves only the Bionic that hasn't got the update. I wonder if anything in this leaked version will help resolve the final issues with ICS on the Bionic...???
Wont help us.

really?
yeah we won't get much out of the leaked ICS versions for other devices. We need an ICS kernel, which thanks to the wonderful locked bootloader won't happen until we have an official release (or leak) from Moto
*praying for a leak!*
If you want to take a look at the Droid 4 ICS leak you can download it here
I hope this happens soon..
Would really like to ICS this phone, been running it on my Xoom for a while.. Sweet
Am I missing something here? Just download the Axi0m 3-20 ICS ROM for the Bionic. Been running ICS for 4months now...only thing not working is video recording.

You're missing the fact that an ICS kernel hasn't even been built for the Bionic. That it's incredible that ICS ROMs even run on the Bionic in the first place because it's booting up with a Gingerbread kernel.
ICS has so many things overhauled under the hood, including new aspects of kernel operation that got stacked on top of what was already there. Because of the locked bootloader in the Bionic, the kernel cannot be modified.
Bionic ICS ROMs are running with limited functionality (such as hardware acceleration) because not everything in an ICS kernel is present.

Everything you just said is technically correct; however I have been running ICS alongside GB for over four months now and have not toggled back to my GB rom in over 2 months. ICS, even with it not being "official", just runs 5x better than GB.
This is pretty much the summary of how people feel who are running Android 4.x on their Bionics. I do not know anyone who has tried the Axi0m ICS roms and then switched back to GB except for people who REALLY have to have HD video recording.

I keep hearing this but what kind of games are you playing that freeze up? Only one of my 13 freeze up and it's not even that good.
I only played a couple games when I had ICS on my Bionic, but they performed significantly better than they did on GB.

Defender 2, drag racing, temple run, modern combat 3, cartoon wars and a few others.
Ordinarily it would be no big deal, but I got a new job with a lot more free time on my hands and these games are a great time killer. Lol

Anything that requires graphics acceleration.
I switch back more for the bluetooth issues that we're still having w/ ICS over everything else. I use bluetooth devices quite regularly, and on ICS it's simply too buggy still for me to use it as a daily driver.

I'm curious though - what industry do you work in that requires the use of multiple Bluetooth devices? (This is a genuine question, I do not mean it sarcastically)

Currently running latest liquidsmooth 2.3.7 rom but it has some odd quirks... not that interested in fancy extra features, just stability. What's the best of the old og Droid roms?

Development stopped a long time ago, but fastest and most stable vanilla ROM should be CyanogenMod 6 for the droid 1.
That's Froyo, which a lot of folks around here frown on.
But if you want something simple, boy howdy, that's the one.
I tried like heck to find a way to get gingerbread running smoothly and never was completely satisfied. Too little RAM for GB and all the apps I had... even with overclocking and SD card storage solutions.
I can't say from personal experience that froyo is the perfect fit for the droid. I was too proud to drop back a version. I ran CM6 on an ancient G1 and that worked out ok.
CM7 is still getting updates every week or so, though, so give it a try and see if it works for you.
I was OC'd to 1.1GHz with a kernel from Prime. Other people swear by Steeldroid for the droid 1. That dev is still working on it, too.
Most of the custom ROMs are based on CyanogenMod anyway.
Good luck!

OK, running steel droid 10.5 with 10.6 coming out soon on my og Droid 1. So far seems very smooth with less quirkiness than the final liquidsmooth rom I was running. Steel Droid looks like one of the last still trying to tweak the last ounce of life from the Droid 1.

I installed Steel Droid on my Droid a long time ago and it ran smooth. Gonna try it again soon and see what has changed since.
Advice
The fastest and most stable vanilla ROM should be CyanogenMod 6 for the Droid 1 but Steel Droid is very good aswell
what would be a good stable ROM for an older person? I am leaning towards MavRom 4.0 since I've been reading 4.5 has issues.
The only major working things they need is bluetooth and camera, so I take it no ICS roms.
Also, I am trying to get either Apex or Nova for them as well to be able to lock the desktop.

I personally use MavRom 4.0, it's nice and stable. I would say either debloated stock (if they have no prior android knowledge, this would be best), or mavrom, although it has more options and whatnot, might not be the best for an older person. I've heard Nova has been unstable (but that might be on ICS/JB, not sure, never used it) and I've not used Apex either... I've always stuck with stock launcher or ADW.
There's a little information, but I would say for stability and whatnot (and emergency text system that's recently been implemented). Just root it with motofail, then run a debloat script on it, just make sure not to remove DLNA (this is required for HDMI).
I suggest Liberty or Maverick, I find Liberty is extremely stable and has the best battery life.
Also I'm pretty sure Apex and Nova launcher are ICS exclusive, I could be wrong though.
MavRom 4.0 is great. Extremely stable, great battery life, and everything works. I suggest Holo Launcher for a nice, AOSP style launcher

I've used both. Minimoto. Im on the 883 radio. I didn't charge my phone last night and am still going. It is about 50% now. I haven't used it heavy but Liberty doesn't make it past one day.
