[Q] ROM for my mum? - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got a touchpad for my mum with WebOS, as is it would be fine, but YouTube doesn't work, so I guess Android is the way to go
Which ROM can you guys recommend that is stable enough that I don't need to keep updating it, and also works with Camera and Sound.
She will most likely surf, listen to music and watch video on the tablet, no games or any weird apps.
I'd appreciate your suggestions, thanks

[Q] Cyanogen on Droid 3?

I apologize in advance for asking a question that has no doubt been asked on here before and posted but I cant find my answer. I just recently came to Motorolla from HTC because I needed to switch to Verizon for work and the D3 was perfect. After looking around on here and on the CM site Im still very confused...Is there a CM download (preferably CM7.1) for the D3 or are people just trying to make something work on it. Im not even rooted yet because if I cant get CM Im not sure I even want to. If anyone can answer this for me and direct me to a download it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all and I apologize again for asking a dumb question.
Yes Hashcode has a cm7 download in the Droid 3 developers forum....it's still got a few minor bugs but overall it's awesome I've been running it for quite sometime now...I don't have a link but look in the dev forum...good luck.

There's a somewhat 7.1 port posted, but hashcode is mostly focused on bringing the 9 up to being usable.

It, most certainly, is good enough to be used as a daily driver. I have been using it since he was able to work out the audio bugs. Around 11/15. It does take some setting up, but well worth it. Just read the thread and Hash's blogspot, you should find everything you need there. Good Luck!
i would like it if the droid 3 gets a officiel cyanogen mod.

That's fine with me, the camera isn't that great anyway but it would be nice to have. How about wifi and GPS? I had CM7 on my G2 and there were a lot of issues with that stuff. Bith are a big deal for me. What's the best bet as far as getting root? Is Psouda's one touch pretty fool proof? I would hate to brick my new baby!

Both SD cards are working in both CM7 and CM9. It's their naming convention that throws people off:
/emmc is the internal emmc storage area (called "/sdcard" in the stock ROM)
/sdcard is the actual sdcard (it's called "/sdcard-ext" in the stock ROM)
And actually the camera will work. The hardware camera does not, but there are a couple software cameras from the market that will. I use camera zoom fx. With very little problems. If you're like me and the camera isn't that big of a deal, these soft cams will work good enough.

What do you mean the hardware camera doesn't work and software camera does?
For any camera soft to work the hardware has to be working...
Do you mean, you can't take pictures with the inbuilt camera app, and can take pics with camera zoom fx?
If so, then the camera works, just the default app does not...
Is this what you mean? If so, then great... If not, what're you sayin'?

For the few days that I use on the release version(a few RC and nightly version too) and it is also my opinion on our P880
Photo sphere..r u meaning that you can take photo like a sphere? As I know stock CM10.1 does not have it(let me know if it does)......it still provide Panoramic (360 degree) photo... But I will flash and use the stock 4.1 photo apps instead, because only the stock one can make HDR really works and I feel that the picture quality is better.
Google Now....It works.
other functions...
MHL
As I previously said.. if you need MHL output.... sorry CM10.1 is never your choice.. coz' they officially said they won't improve the vertical problem while Nvidia didn't provide api for it.
Force 4x MSAA..
I have read some post said Tegra 3 chip does not support it .... so it won't work too
Gallery link to Google+ or Picasa (let me know if I am wrong too)
As I remember the stock 4.1.1 gallery can link to them, but it will not show it on CM10.1's gallery
No Stock Chinese IME (I am a chinese, maybe it is not a problem for most of you guys)
Well I can understand this, because it is the same as Nexus 4....but you can install an apps for it.
Except you need MHL.. it is really a great ROM...better control, UI and better response than the stock. I have never use benchmark to test any device while the actual feeling is mean more than this. Also, as we all know, the more apps we install the less performance it has.
For your reference (from Stock to CM10.1)
Battery life.... I can tell, it is almost the same. At the very 1st time I truly wipe off all my apps and use CM10.1... CM make a real difference.. but once I have all the stupid apps running now.. it is just the same.
Smoothness... Honestly it did improve!!! Even I have 100 or more apps installed...I still feel it has a lot better response than the stock.
Heat problem... Improve a little bit, but still the system go wrong (slower or restart) in poor condition(ie. hot weather)
For myself CM10.1 release works perfect except MHL for this phone. 4x HD has some hardware issue, but it is still a great phone for its price tag in HK.
Hope it helps and Thanks,
Mike

Are you meaning that you can manually select mobile networks? If that is the case, it works.
For the FM radio problem, i have no idea. I don't know y my release version of CM10.1, doesn't come with any FM Radio app. But i do remember some previous nightly or RC versions has it and it was working. I seldom use FM, so it is also not an issue for me.
Mike.
How about charging issue?
My device sometimes stop charging at 92%, 96%, 97%.
After unplug charger, the charging resume to 100%.
Sometimes charging goes to 100%.
Totally random.

Space Jump game problem on Galaxy S and Cyanogenmod 10.2

Hi, I am posting this thread because I have problem with one app from google play which was working very well some time ago (CM9, CM10...) and suddenly last time its not working any more - the Space Jump free game from the Play Store. I was trying to run it on several different ROMs (but they were all based on Cyanogenmod 10.2 - Paranoid android 3.86, CyanAOSP, GamerzROM, Carbon ROM...) and every time after fresh new download and istall I keep getting "Unfortunately application Space jump stopped working" when I am trying to run this app.
I wonder where is the problem because on other 2 devices (not Galaxy S) which I was playing with (CyanogenMod 10.2 based ROMs installed on Both devices) is this game working fine...almost same ROMs, same game from play store but not working on Galaxy S, so I am asking anyone with Galaxy S to try this app if it is working for you, otherwise I dont know if the problem is just on my side only on my Galaxy S or it is just ROM problem eventually which ROM on this phone is able to run this application. Thanks anyone for the advices and also anyone who is willing to test the app.
Also I know this seem silly that I am making a new thread because of one stupid free game when on the play store there are tons of others working and maybe better, but I'm really wondering why this particular app won't suddenly work while on same ROM but different devices it is working without any problem. Thanks for understanding
Hi,
remember CM 10.2 is in nightly-state so maybe bugs are there ...
CM 10.2 on different devices and hardware is not the same...maybe the game runs on one device because of more cpu-power or more ram ...
So wait and see with the next nightlies or wait for the RC (Stable-Version) and for the moment go back to CM 10.1.x ..
I think that the difference is the hardware of the different devices and i think you are not alone ....
Thanks for the reply freaky, yes the hardware is different but I believe it has nothing to do with CPU power - the other devices, one is Galaxy Mini (ARMv6 600mhz), the second is HTC EVO 3D, so the performance difference is quite big between these two and the app is working on both independently. Do I understand it right - you are on CM 10.1 and this app works for you?
No i don`t usw the game but you wrote that with CM 9 and CM10 the game works very well ,so i think with a stable version of CM 10.1 it should work!:good:

Yes, but I forgot to mention that I'm not sure if it was CM9 or CM10 or both, I only know that it was working about one and half year ago.
It would be rather sure before next long flashing and restoring data from titanium backup again and again, could you test it for me?

I'm kind of a "ROM-a-holic". I like to try new ROMs all the time. I really like SlimKat (by "jfbs"), but I've noticed that the volumes seem to be very low...even when I have them turned all the way up I have a hard time hearing the caller. Am I just imagining this or have others noticed this? I've been using it for several weeks and really like it, but will probably go back to CM11 for awhile (until SlimKat gets another update) and see if I notice differences in the volumes. If anyone else notices this issue maybe they could pass it along to jfbs. I love all the great work everyone is doing with the ROMs for this relic of a phone!!

I don't have slimkat, but I used slimbean for a long time. I had a similar volume issue there. What worked with slimbean was actually to click volume _down_ one click and then turn it up. Maybe that workaround will fix your problem. Good luck.

Another Comparison - RROS vs AOSPA

So you saw the description - which one is more stable / faster f. e. in app switching + gaming etc.? Battery and bugs are same I guess. Also I'm talking about newest builds .
