I have noticed that when using certain apps (ES File Explorer and Avast! being two examples) that if I enter an "app info" screen from these apps it opens in full screen with no apparent method to exit the screen short of returning to home. Am I missing some gesture? Entering "app info" from default "settings" allows me to back out - but no such option exists in these cases. What is more if I do go to home then restart the guilty app using a shortcut it puts me back to my last location for that app, which of course is stuck in the "app info" screen.
edit: Forgot I'm using Nova launcher
Me to, why does that matter?

My particular problem was that I would enter the info screen through a misclick, attempt to return to the previous screen, use home to access desktop then end up back inside the same (dead end) info page when I attempted to reopen explorer through the desktop. As a novice to tablet interfaces I found this circular dance at best, unintuitive.

There is a solution. But you have to install an app. It is GMD Gesture Control Lite. It is free but sometimes nags you to buy the full version. I found out about it because another user wanted to hide the status/navigation bars. The app adds the ability to add finger swipe gestures for specific actions. One swipe that comes with the free version is back. So with that installed, just give the pre-defined swipe action and it goes back. And if you buy the full version it adds the swipe to hide or show the status/nav bar. So, if you give it that swipe, the back bar appears. I found I had trouble with the multi-touch tablet swipes, so I configured it for phone so it only took single touch swipes.
I could see where that app would be handy in a lot of situations. I am going to keep it installed. May even recommend it in my tips thread.

I tried that out but couldn't get consistent behaviour from it. More often than not a gesture wouldn't register.
Ok misunderstood your problem. Yes I've seen that too. Have to kill the app in manage apps

So I used the method of running minimalist buttons (black) and setting them up through Desktop Visulaizer and Astro file manager. I'm currently using LauncherPro Plus. The Phone and Message button goes directly to where there supposed to. The App button or "Widget drawer" does not, I have to have it set up as a "swipe to open" to have a functional App drawer. There was no opition for a "App drwaer launch" with using Desktop Visulaizer.
Does anybody have any idea on how to make this work where all I have to do is click the opition rather then having the swipe to launch?? Any help would be great.
I have provided a shot from using the Shoot Me App.
Thanks.
lwp - long press the app drawer, choose change icon, custom, yours....or am I missing something?
EDIT: Thank you PhoenixPath, I must have had a stupid spell, I took away the "app drawer" icon and replaced that...DUHHH, It has been fixed.

Stock Captivate 2.1 Éclair. ADW launcher.
I had an app freeze up the phone. Had to remove battery and restart. Now the Master Bar (or whatever it is called) at the bottom no longer has the Apps icon in it! The other two are still there.
I now have no way to get into the primary apps list--can run only those that have shortcuts on the home screens. I cannot find any way to get the Apps icon back.
Help, help help please. This is a major fail.
Make sure your desktop is unlocked first ...
tap the screen, hold, then select "launcher actions" -> open/close app drawer
you should have a link to open the apps.
then you can drag and drop the link to the dock.
Or enable the awesome option in adw settings that let's you swipe up anywhere on the screen to open the app drawer.

While on your homescreen press menu -> adw settings -> general behavior -> swipe up actions, and select open close app drawer.

OK. Cancel this question.
Out of the clear blue, it reappeared, but this really scares me. Had it not fixed itself, I would have had a serious deficiency in the phone.
except, previous shows a method (thanks) to recreate the icon, so it would not have been fatal.

Ooooooo...I like this one. Thanks.
Any other nice tricks/settings?
Hi I have a nook HD+ and always get shortcuts automatically being downloaded and showing up on my desktop/tabletop. These are always for some game, or security etc...I could get 5 a night..I always have to press them..wait then tap remove from tabletop. So how do I prevent this from automatically doing it.
In settings/home I have Active shelf turned off, Inbox is on, everything else on the page is unchecked (show recent drawer, etc...)
Any help is appreciated

I believe it is your settings in Play Store. The app keeps reinstalling and you have Play Store set to put an icon on your home screen.

There are no setting like that, that I saw in play store

I'm using Apex launcher and I have swipe up to get to quick settings, but it doesn't work. Any other options?
Swipe down from the top with two fingers.
Start swiping down from the right side and hold until the tab switches to quick settings. Then pull down.

Best solution I found for myself is "Power Toggles". That App allows to have quick toggles on the home screen as well as where they used to be prior to Android 4.4.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.painless.pc
Or if you use it a lot, might want to try tasker.
I also use Power Toggles for quick access to a lot of settings, although with KitKat its usefulness has declined because it has to send you to a settings screen for a lot of them rather than just toggling the setting itself.
Tasker is an option, but a very complicated one. I also use AutomateIt (similar to tasker but much more user friendly) to create shortcut icons to change multiple settings at once.
I'm a fan of not having to use any of the physical buttons, this is why i liked using custom roms, on my other devices, that allowed this and also taking advantage of the gesture features with the launcher i use, Nova Launcher.
So for rom version 5.1.1 i like it the way it is, but it's just lacking the option to lock the screen without having to use the physical button. i've installed the app "Reboot Menu" and it has all the features i need but the Lock Screen option lacks for me, because when you use the feature, and wake the phone up again, the Reboot menu is still open. If it closed after the selection that would be great. If Nova Launcher had this feature within the gesture options..that would be even better! anyways, anyone with me on this? is there another app better than the Reboot Menu app?
there is an app called screen off in play store once u use it, it put the screen off
what i do is im using nova too and in setting the gestures i designated the double tab gesture to use this app
result ... double tapping the screen puts it off
