I thought I'd mention SystemApp Remover for folks looking to just remove specific apps they don't need. I find it very useful in selectively debloating every time I flash a new ROM.

currently in the process of making an AOKP aroma version similar to this i imagine. that can remove various system apps, whatever ringtones, alarms, notification sounds... and if you choose it can also insert your own ringtones, alarms, notification sounds into the correct locations in the rom in one go.. currently have one simple version that will do the same as custom v0.3c except it wont let manual checking of system/notifications/alarms/ringtones as yet << mainly because I only taught myself how to work with aroma installer this morning
Good work my friend.... Keep it up! Nexus 4 is next on my list of phones to get

I have a small question, the first post mentions this is ROM independent, then why are the updates for certain roms only at times.
is it because of the way they are built or something else.
I know it's a n00b question but just curious.
Great job by the way.
educate me please
thanks a lot trying

The first releases were independent as I could only make each line of code for the ring tones, alarms, notifications and system apps when I went through the rom. Then I released and started work on the next rom and so forth. Once I had finished each rom individually I then taught myself how to code for aroma. Then added each rom and had to rewrite a lot of the earlier scripts to be compatible with aroma then I took the same approach made an aroma zip for each rom then had to work out a way to merge all 3. I then managed to do that and that was my main goal to have a zip that is easy to understand, not just a script that wipes everything but gives you choice and I now have the ability to add features that will apply to all 3 rom so far without needing to worry about compiling each zip individually. Hope this explains it

Gotcha ....

alright im starting to lose ideas.... anyone who has tried the mod had any problems? or have any suggestions for things they would like to do easily via the recovery?
Sorry if i am in the wrong thread...
Is there anybody know this? Or is there anybody know where to ask this question?
in .zip file (for CWM) there is an updater-script file...
I want to delete some files but i dont want to write the exact names of the files... Is there any way to delete some thing like x*.* or t*.apk or talk*.* etc...
for example if i want to delete all the files which starts with "a" letter... How can i do this?
I know
delete("...");
delete_recursive("...");
commands... But i couldn't find out if there is any way to do this?
Thank you for your answers...
You cant delete stuff using wildcards as far as i know.. That would have made my mod a thousand times easier to write up lol

An updater script only has a specific set of instructions that can be run.. see here http://www.freeyourandroid.com/guide/introdution_to_edify
This then is also determined by the update binary (the other file in the same location as the updater-script) - for better set of instructions you should extract one of them from a rom that is made for our nexus
In theory if you set it up you may be able to set something with the ifelse command in an updater-script OR if your good with other types of code you may get what you require using an external .sh to which the updater-script only "runs" which may allow for what you want to do. however i feel personally that it will take a fair while setting up a lot of parameters, etc becasue you will need to make sure you not deleting the wrong apk or file. If you stick to the fundamentals of an updater-script you can easily achieve what you want all you need to know is the name of the apk etc.. and with base roms these apk names will not change so it shouldn't be too much of an issue
Then if you work with AROMA there is a different set of instructions for how stuff needs to be setup for the aroma side, then the updater script needs to be a bit more modified from just a stock updater-script to run from how the aroma code makes output prop files, etc
Thats about the best i got.. other than that you will have to research these other possibilities up or make them up yourself and test until they work.

Development dropped in favor of Liberation.
Only difference between Nothing Special 1.3 and Liberation 1.0 is that Google Car Home has been replaced by the stock HTC Car Panel. This is to remove "holes" left by the removal of a stock app. Also, this no longer conflicts with my intent of having a stock ROM minus carrier bloat/restrictions. Google Car Home can be added by the user if they so choose.
How to customize Nothing Special (Peanut) BEFORE you flash:
Materials
Windows - 7-ZIP
Linux - nothing
Mac OS X - nothing (note, I have not done this on Mac OS X, so I cannot support this OS)
Steps
Download the above mentioned file(s) for Windows. You can use a different archive manager if you'd like, but my guide is based on using 7-ZIP.
On your desktop, create a folder named "Test." You can name it whatever you want, but I'll be referring to it as "Test" in this guide. If you are new at this, you need to follow the guide to the letter.
Find your downloaded "Nothing Special (Peanut) ROM" and extract it to the Test folder. The easiest way to do this on Windows is to open the ROM, highlight all of the folders/files (CTRL-A), copy (CTRL-C), then open the Test folder and paste (CTRL-V). Give it a minute to extract the contents.
Once you complete step three, modify the ROM to your hearts content (see details below). Once complete, proceed to step five.
Open the Test folder and highlight everything (CTRL-A). Right click and select "Add to Archive." This will open 7-ZIP's archive manager. On Linux or Mac OS X, just right-click (or equivalent) and select "Compress."
In the options menu that comes up, leave everything at default except the following. The filename should be Test.zip (change Test to whatever you want). Archive format should be zip. Compression level should be ultra. That's it.
Once done, you can copy this zip to your SD card and flash as normal. Keep in mind that I am not responsible for any changes that you made in this ROM, so make sure you Nandroid BEFORE you flash.
Specific customizations for the above method:
Ringtones - While the ROM is unzipped, open the test folder and look for /system/media/audio. Within this folder you'll see several more folders (Ringtones, Alarms, Notifications). Any should files you put here will show up in the system when you go to change your ringtone (or whatever corresponds to the folder). The benefits to this modification include; no storage space used up in internal, phone, or SD storage; ringtone works even if SD is USB mounted, no errors when the SD card corrupts or is in use. The ringtones (alarms/notifications) are stored in a partition that does NOT count towards your file storage
Modify Status Bar - Don't like the crap (IE, the E911 location icon or the clock) in the status bar? Change it! Go to THIS THREAD, download the status bar you want, and then use it to replace the services.jar file found in /system/framework. Don't have to worry about flashing it separately!
Add the 3-in-1 reboot menu - Want a 3-in-1 reboot menu without flashing separately? Go to THIS POST and download the file. Extract the file from /system/framework, and use it to replace the same file in /system/framework from your ROM. When your ROM is zipped and flashed, you'll have the 3-in-1 reboot menu by default!
Add the Evo camera - Go to THIS POST and download the file that I attached. Go to your Test folder and navigate to /system/app/. Use the downloaded apk to replace the one already there.
Add/Remove apps you don't want - Navigate to /system/app, and remove any APK files that you don't want. If you don't know what app it is, do NOT remove it. WARNING: You do this at your own risk! Not all apps are safe to remove! You can also place other APKs in here. Generally not recommend as then they take up space in /system/app and /data/data, which can slow boot time when too crowded.
Modify Bootup Animation/Sound - Navigate to the /system/customize/resource/ folder. In there, you will see two files; VZW_bootanimation.zip an VZW_Droid.mp3. These files are the bootup animation and "Droid" noise. Simply delete the MP3 if you want a silent bootup. It really is that easy. Replace the ZIP File with another zipped animation (must give it the same name) to replace the animation with one of your own. NOTE: Make sure you verify compatibility. If unsure, don't do it.
WARNING about Smooth Sense Icons - Do NOT follow the above instructions with any mod, such as Smooth Sense icons, that replace framework.apk. Doing so will cause you to have a boot loop. This must be flashed manually and separately
Modifications: A note about the below medications. They may or may not flash with your recovery. If you see *(recovery) after a mod, it means that I have personally verified that it works. For outdated mods, I will, over time, convert them to Clockwork Mod 3.x. If you want to see a mod listed here, PM me so that I can add it. Posting it in the thread won't always catch my attention.
Smooth Sense Icons w/white battery indicator - Thanks goes out to jercik for the mod and squintz for the port and white text change. This collection of icons makes Sense look much nicer.* (2.5.0.5, 2.5.1.2)
Status Bar tweaks - Thanks goes to pardonmyfreedom - collection of mods allows you to change what icons show up in your status bar (IE, clock, battery meter, E911 location icon, etc.)* (2.5.0.5, 2.5.1.2)
3-in-1 Reboot Menu - Thanks goes to snq - When you hold the power button, beneath the shut down icon you'll have a reboot option. This gives you three more choice; normal, boot-loader (HBOOT), recovery. * (2.5.0.5, 2.5.1.2)
Evo Camera - Provided by various sources, this camera is the same as the Incredible camera, but has an on-screen button for those who hate using the track-pad. * (2.5.0.5, 2.5.1.2)
Kernels: If you see a * (approved), it means that I have personally tested the kernel(s) at the provided link with this ROM. In theory, any Sense kernel should work on this ROM. If you have a favorite kernel, PM me the link and description so that I can add it.
Heyitslou's custom kernels -customized versions of the stock kernel, these kernels offer excellent stability, battery life, and real world performance, but won't win any synthetic benchmark comparisons. I use #8 and HIGHLY recommend it. All credit to the linked thread author.* (approved)

Yes, read the OP for "Nothing Special (plain)," the link is at the bottom of the OP here. Basically, plain is odexed, and cannot take mods, etc. It is simply stock with crapware eliminated and one or two very minor tweaks. It's for those who don't want to stray far from stock, and are content with their ROM as is.
Peanut is deodexed, and can therefore be modded. You can flash other themes, kernels, etc. and build it any way you want from stock, instead of from other ROM builders' vision of what "stock" should be.
All credit to Jason for a very nice job doing something that was long overdue. Not planning on running it myself, but flashed plain on my daughter's Incredible and I don't think I'll have to provide any more tech support to her from here on in.
Plain or Peanut is now more up-to-date than Virtuous, which was formerly the best "first step" for anybody exploring ROM's.
hgoldner did a great job of summing up the differences, so I'm going to add a bit more technical bits to it.
When a ROM is odexed, as the stock ROM is, it means that the key apps (anything made by HTC) are divided up into two parts; an APK file and an ODEX file. When you first load an odexed ROM, all of the APK files copy over to the /data/data/ folder for installation. The ODEX files remain in /system/app/ and are used like libraries on your desktop.
On a deodexed ROM, the ODEX and APK files are combined into one APK. So, when these APKs are copied to /data/data/, they take up more space. This is a key reason why the first bootup of a deodexed ROM takes so much longer than an odexed equivalent, as more data is being copied over. Also, this is why Plain has 722MB available to the user (more than any other ROM I'm aware of, even edging out the stock ROM, which is 710), while Peanut has 676MB available to the user.
An odexed ROM is harder to modify and is not compatible with modifications made for deodexed ROMs. So, only run Plain if you want a stock ROM, without bloat, and with more space available for apps. Run Peanut if you can live with less space, but want a choice in what addons are run.
I'll be adding more addons to this thread almost daily. I'll make it as easy as possible to customize this ROM the way you want it.

Wow. Didn't know that myself. This would strongly suggest that odexed ROM's have a less likelihood of filling up the \data\data 150mb partition, and therefore would be less likely to produce the "low memory space" warning. Yes?

Exactly You get roughly 50MB extra from being odexed, depending on the ROM. In the case of Nothing Special, deodexing takes away 46MB from /data/data/. I've tried to keep it somewhat clean though, as most other custom ROMs use up a little more space than this.
This is what virtuous was supposed to be. Virtuous' definition of "essential fixes" is a little flawed to me. Perfect stock ROM. Thanks.

RMK did a great job on Virtuous. I'm a mere hack compared to him as a ROM developer. I think Virtuous is what is was meant to be, but he's just moved on to the G2.
My ROMs are merely another alternative.
Updated the FAQ with two notes to help explain the difference between Plain/Peanut (they're the top two Q/As). Will start adding the addons tomorrow. For now, flash the ROM and your favorite kernel, then setup to your heart's content. Starting tomorrow the flashaholics should be happy (and no, you won't be losing any data between flashes, they're just patches)

I just wanted to add clarification. I respect RMK, but I was also a bit disappointed in Virtuous. I tried to talk to him in private and requested permission to make some changes to Virtuous (such as updating his outdated Sense apps), but he seems to have moved on to the G2.
So, I'm disappointed with how Virtuous has come out, but respect RMK as a developer. I wish that I had his talent.
Although I may not flash this I do appreciate the work you've put into it. I do think this is awesome. And again thanks guys for the rundown on the difference between the two. Now I know a little bit more about the odex and deodexed stuff. Thanks.

A Complete N0oBs Guide
I cant make this any simpler for you.
TO HAVE A CLEAN ROM = JUST FLASH THE ZIP
TO USE YOUR OWN LIST PUT ROMCleaner_User.txt ON YOUR SDCARD IN
Code:
/sdcard/ROMCleaner
Click to collapse
Quick Start Guide
Ok, this is a quick start guide for those user who just want to flash and go.
The cleaner uses one of two text files located in the ROMCleaner folder on your SD card.
ROMCleaner.txt - This is the default cleaner list that the script will read from. This list will be placed on your card on the first run of the cleaner. It will be overwritten each time the cleaner is run to ensure the latest updates are applied.
Or
ROMCleaner_User.txt - This is your custom cleaner list. You can create this file at any time and the cleaner will automatically read from it.
File Locations:
Code:
/sdcard/ROMCleaner/ROMCleaner.txt <--- This is the default list and will be created automatically
/sdcard/ROMCleaner/ROMCleaner_User.txt <--- This is your personal list which you create.
Click to collapse
Summary
In short, all you have to do is add text to a file and put apks into a folder.
Yes yes that simple.
You can even edit the text files and copy apks using just your device.
While we still recommend you use http://notepad-plus-plus.org/ to edit your list on a PC to maintain the UNIX encoding the cleaner will also double check and convert the file if it finds it has been converted to a windows format.
Click to collapse
EVERYTHING BELOW THIS RED LINE YOU DONT NEED TO KNOW.
ITS A COMPLETE REFERENCE GUIDE FOR THE ENTIRE TOOLSET
_______________________________________________ <- The Red Line
Simple Breakdown
Folder Creator - Creates all nesercery folders automatically for you on SDCard
ROMCleaner - Will clean your rom using either default list or user list
Backup Tool - Will backup all your apps to SD for you
SettingsRestorer - Restores backups made with backup Tool
HTCSetupRemover - Removes setup wizards
Mods & App Installer - Installs using the SecondBoot folders

Folder Creator

Click to collapse
We have created this small flashable zip to aid you in getting the cleaners directory structure setup.
It should only need to be run once before using but can be run at any time to completely recreate the structure. Any files or folders in place will not be harmed if flashing again.
The script contains a small reboot to workround a very small bug in some recoveries. This bug will not update the sdcards file view to show new folders.
This is to help us avoid the obligatory "I flashed the zip but it didnt create the folders" posts.
ROMCleaner
Click to collapse
On flashing, the RC zip will do the following things:
Install our script and related files to /tmp
Check if the folder is present on the SD card, if not then it will create it.
Install the default cleaner list (ROMCleaner.txt) overwriting any older versions.
Check to see if a custom list is present (ROMCleaner_User.txt).
If it is then it will check for Windows encoding and convert to UNIX if needed.
If it is not then it will use the default.
Proceed to read the list and delete all the files and folders.
Copy any backuped up apps back to /data/app
Create Logs on the SD Card.
Note that the time it takes for the apps to be copied will vary dependent on the number of apps you have installed/are installing as will the first boot of the rom as most roms these days will automatically zipalign the data partition. On 200+ apps it takes under a minute to install and adds roughly 4-6mins to your boot time.
Due to the naming convention of apks when updated (they are appended with -1, -2 etc) please ensure you check for duplicates to avoid doubling up and wasting space. We will leave the organisation of your apps in this folder to you
Backup Tool
Click to collapse
Now to save time and bandwidth when installing a rom it is possible to have your apps 'pre-installed' before first boot.
On flashing, the zip will copy all apks located in
Code:
data/app
to
Code:
sdcard/ROMCleaner/FirstBoot/data/app
as well as several system files to your SD card in preperation for your new rom.
When the ROMCleaner is run it will copy these apks back to data/app for you before booting the rom.
We are slowly adding support for apps that are provided by the rom devs to make sure that these apps are not copied across to ensure you will always receive the uptodate version included with your rom.
If you feel support for your rom should be included as default please contact us in the thread.
When flashed this zip will do the following:
Install our script and related files to /tmp
Check if the folder is present on the SD card, if not then it will create it.
Backup WiFi APs keys, Bluetooth pairings and Mail accounts (including Inbox)
Copy all apks found in /data/app/
Create Logs on the SD Card.
Wifi, BT and Mail accounts can only be restored using the Settings Restorer.
Settings Restorer
Click to collapse
This script will attempt to restore any files backed up by the backup tool.
These settings are stored by the Android system and are usually lost when flashing a rom. This can be annoying if you have a lot of wifi passwords sotred or a few BT pairings which you dont want to lose.
It is important to note that in the majority of cases these settings will be correctly applied but sometimes for an unknown reason they dont and may cause errors. We are still trying to track these down. If you do encounter them PLEASE post in the thread so we can gather some information from you to aid in this process.
This tool also has limitations when it comes to moving rom base. Please do not attempt to restore these settings as it will more than likely cause errors.
HTCSetupRemover
Click to collapse
The setup remover is a small additional zip that will remove the setup wizards which run at first boot.
Once these wizards have been run they become absolutely useless and as such can be removed safely.
Unfortunately they are tied into several aspects of the system and removing them before the roms first boot can cause some weird errors and FC's
Creating Your Own List
Click to collapse
While the default list should be enough for most users, we have included the ability to define your own custom list for the cleaner to remove.
Creating your own list is as simple as adding files to a text file! This can be done a variety of ways, from an editor on your PC or via an editor on your Phone!
The easiest way to start your own list is to use the one attached to the first post.
Run the folder creator or create the following structure on you sdcard
Code:
/sdcard/ROMCleaner/ROMCleaner_User.txt
As long as this file is present, the cleaner will read from it instead of the default ROMCleaner.txt.
To add to it all you have to do is add the apk file or folder you would like removed during cleaning.
Single apk files should just be listed while folders should be encased in quotes (" ")
Any item with a # in front of it will be ignored by the cleaner.
The cleaner will check BOTH the /system and /data partitions for any apk file named in the list and remove it if it finds it
Examples:
To add files:
Code:
UselessApp.apk
Simple as that
To add folders:
Code:
"/system/app/UselessFolder"
Ignored example:
Here, both the empty folder and UselessApp2 will be deleted while UselessApp1 will be ignored.
Code:
"/system/app/EmptyFolder"
#UselessApp1.apk
UselessApp2.apk
We have also included the ability to batch delete a certain filetype by using the following syntax -
Code:
"/path/to/folder/*.fileextension"
Heres an example from the default list to remove all .png images from the resources folder:
Code:
"/system/customize/resource/*.png"
The default ROMCleaner.txt also includes these instructions to help you start your own list.
Examples Of Usage
Click to collapse
Heres a couple of example flashing procedures for the most common ways of flashing a rom and using the ROMCleaner toolset.
Before doing anything you should first flash the folder creator zip to create the folder structure for you.
Flash'n'Go - Full Wipe - Clean System
So this is your typical flashing procedure for a ROM starting with a full wipe, clean system, and no apps or settings backed up.
SuperWipe
Flash ROM
Flash ROMCleaner
First Boot
Setup Phone
Flash HTCSetupRemover
Use Phone as Normal
ROM Upgrade
Obviously using the 'upgrade' method to install a rom will replace any files you have removed with the cleaner the first time round.
You can use the cleaner again straight after flashing a rom upgrade.
Be warned, using the upgrade method and cleaner will no doubt leave artifacts and residue from the previous install. Most notably within the 'Add Widget' section of Rosie.
The only way to remove these artifacts is to clear data from HTC Sense
Code:
Settings > Applications > All > HTC Sense > Clear Data
WARNING - THIS WILL RESET YOUR HOMESCREEN LAYOUTS
This is not our fault. This is the design by HTC. Please do not complain to us, we hate it too.
We have added the ability to clear this data automatically while flashing to save you this trouble but have # it out by default to avoid all the whining posts blaming us about why peoples homescreens have been reset.
We highly recommend you use a custom list if you are performing upgrades and un# the appropriately marked section found in the default ROMCleaner.txt
This would be your ideal flashing method when using the cleaner on a rom upgrade.
Flash ROM
Flash ROMCleaner using custom list with Sense data cleared
Boot
Setup Phone
Flash HTCSetupRemover
Use Phone as Normal
Patric, craack and I do not officially endorse the use of rom upgrades and as such will not be hold accountable for any problems that arise from them.
With the use of this cleaner script and the backup/install apps option alongside other data backup tools such as Titanium backup (Data only) should negate the need to use the upgrade method.
Full Backup & Restore
This is the daddy. A full on backup of apps, wifi, bt and mail settings, wipe and reinstall of a cleaned rom.
This is usefull when you have been playing around too much and fooked somethig up but dont have a nandroid or just want the feeling of a freshly installed rom but dont want to lose some settings.
Flash Backup Tool
SuperWipe
Flash Rom
Flash Cleaner which will also install apps
First Boot
Setup Phone
Flash HTCSetupRemover
Flash Mods & App Installer
Flash Settings Restoer

ROMCleaner Logs & Support
Click to collapse
To make troubleshooting easier for us we have included a logging feature into the toolset to aid in trouble shooting.
Each script will create its own set of logs which will be stored in /sdcard/ROMCleaner/Logs
If you should run into problems, please attach these logs to your post in the thread to aid us in solving your issue.
Mods & App Installer
!!! WARNING - ADVANCED USERS ONLY !!!
Click to collapse
This tool has so far been successful in our tests and has been taken out of the experimental phase. Please note though the majority of mods we have tried have worked perfectly but some have caused bolops and black screens, usually heavy system apks such as framework-res and com.htc.resources.
For that reason it is for those users that know how to handle mod zips and understand the structure within them and can easily revert any changes made.
This script functions in a simialr way to the backup and installation of apps except it is used for mods which need to be flashed after the phone has had its first boot.
Such mods ,if flashed before the system has booted, have been know to cause errors such as bolops and black screens.
It was built to try and cut down on the recovery navigation of having to select each zip in turn. With this installer you will only need to flash one zip to have all your mods installed at once. It also allows you have finer control over the mods as you are dealing with normal folders and files rather than zips.
To Use
If you have flashed the folder creator you will find a folder within the sdcard/ROMCleaner folder on your SD called SecondBoot which in itself contains common system folders where mods are flashed to.
Take your mod zip, extract and place the files into these folders according to the structure in the zip.
Upon flashing the installer these files will be placed in the correct places and also have the correct permissions set to them.

Patrics83 spent many months cursing HTCs decision to fill his precious device with crap he didnt want with no way to remove it. After hundreds of letters, emails and even stalking the CEO with no response he finally decided enough is enough and ROMCleaner was born. He spends his time plotting revenge against Sense roms and their bloat in the hope that one day, his message to HTC will get through.
Dude360 one day stumbled across a small post regarding removing crap from his lovely rom. Patric offered him a small taste of how clean a rom could be but it wasnt enough. Dude360 wanted more. He wanted it all, a Sense rom with the size and speed of a AOSP rom. It soon took him over, he began creating monsterous abomaonations which no man should ever flash. Patric decided Dude360 needed a mentor, someone to calm his addiction to cleaning and proceeded to teach him the zen of ROMCleaner.
craack was just a innocent young man when he was abducted by Patric and Dude. They forced days and days of flashing and reflashing roms to get the cleaner working the way they wanted. He tried to resist but the cleaner was too strong and he finally gave in and become one of them. craack now wonders the realm of XDA searching out roms and the unneeded crap they come with to try to fulfill his goal of creating the ULTIMATE CLEANER LIST!

It's all up to the user what is being removed or not... Just make your own user list and all is fine. Short explanation for every app or widget is in first post.
Just read some parts of the guide and you will know exactly how to edit your own personal user list.
This is not an app just a script.

I tried to do the flash and go procedure with the default script and now it only deleted some of the widgets, leaving behind garbage in the widget section (100.0dip, 200.0px, 300, 800). It deleted some apps and some wallpapers.
What can be the problem?? I would love this to work...

I tried to do the flash and go procedure with the default script and now it only deleted some of the widgets, leaving behind garbage in the widget section (100.0dip, 200.0px, 300, 800). It deleted some apps and some wallpapers.
What can be the problem?? I would love this to work...

Sorry I missed your post....
The problem is you did one very important thing wrong
Don't flash ROM Cleaner after first boot.
And if you do clear HTC Sense data.

Finally...
I always copied the ROMcleaner_user.txt script from the 1st page link to notepad++ on my pc, edited it and moved it to my phone. That changed it to Dos/windows. So I did the default clean and the default ROMcleaner.txt appeared in the romcleaner folder on my sd... So i edited it on my phone and renamed it to ROMcleaner_user.txt and all is good, thank freaking god...
Now i can enjoy your script!! Thanks for it and your help!!

Hmm, that's strange. Never heard of that issue before.
But I'm happy you fixed it
Why:
i really like the custom apps etc that needed to be in the /system/app/ folder but i really often change my ROM so i needed to do it everytime again so that's why i created this zip.
What is this?:
it will first backup the apps that are going to be replaced/deleted into the folder .backupappstim on the SD card then it will copy the apps, mods etc. to the right folder... That's it! (see the ChangeLog for the apps, mods and witch apps are going to be deleted/backed up)
v0.1:
Add Miui Camera (with muted shutter/focus sounds)
Add Miui Music
Add Miui file manager
Add Miui Gallery
Add Beats audio mod
Add Bravia engine mod
Delete ArcCamera.apk (Backed-up)
v0.2
Add ported ICS keyboard (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...xLDEsImNvbS52bGx3cC5pbnB1dG1ldGhvZC5sYXRpbiJd)
Add Roboto font (original font backed up)
Delete Camera.apk (Backed-up)
Add Titanium Backup 4.8.4
Next release:
2 Separate flashable zips; one with backup and one without (cuz on some ROMs the backup feature not work )
Tested and Working for:
All Zeus
Marvel
SAPPHIRE
I think it will work on all roms, but please share if its working for your current rom.

*This is just a flashable zip usefull for me so it may not usefull for you so please, don't cry to me!
*You could request if i wanna add apps/mods, and maybe i will add them

one question, what does the bravia engine actually do? :$
Hi, I would like to modify the Slimwizz 5 ROM for personal use. I want to remove some apps and add some stock ones that are missing and needed for me. I would also like to change the theme that was introduced (the background in settings and other places that were changed).so that it looks identical to stock.
Can someone advise me on how to do this? I am guessing it isn't enough to extract the zip file and delete, replace apps and then just to rezip it.
So any help with removing the apps, then adding apps and finally changing it to phone UI and changing the background in settings would be much appreciated.

I think that you need new rom
did you try alliance v1
you can flash it without google and samsung apps, then after installation you can restore every system (samsung/google) apps that you need, this way you can have a rom that suit your needs
also you can flash stock theme from Alliance OTA
and a lot of modification through Alliance control
you cant find better rom

System mode fallback in case Magisk is not present
Supports both Dalvik and ART platforms
Smart bytecode refresh (delete classes.dex/classes.art only if it is replaced by the theme)
Easy uninstallation via automatically generated flashable ZIP or through Magisk Manager (if installed systemlessly)
Delete files (even inside APKs)
Support for pre/post-(un)installation scripts
Support for dual /system partitions

Things to remember
Compile your res/smali/etc files first before you put them in your theme! You can use APKtool for that, then just extract the files from the resulting APK.
Theming user apps is not supported, because modifying the contents breaks the signature.
Remember to properly edit .9.png files, or else you might get a bootloop!
You do not need to put theme files in a subfolder inside the main APK folder, e.g. /system/priv-app/SystemUI/SystemUI.apk. EVilTheme automatically does that for you.
Do I need to download the official Magisk module template?Nope! EVilTheme includes post-fs-data.sh, service.sh, and system.prop. Look for them in META-INF/tk/aureljared/magisk-common and edit them to your liking. The module.prop is automatically generated from information you put in eviltheme.prop.
In the event that the official module template is updated, I will update EVilTheme to ensure compatibility as soon as I can.
How do I theme an app (or apps) using EVilTheme?Inside the ZIP, there are three folders that you can modify as needed; namely, data, system, and vrtheme.
Your patches/theme files go in vrtheme, while APK files that you want to install onto the device go in data and system.
For example, you want to theme Settings.apk, which is located in /system/priv-app.
Let's say your theme replaces res/drawable-hdpi/battery_icon_50.png in the APK, and also replaces classes.dex because you changed some smali files.
These are the steps you need to follow to make a flashable theme ZIP:
Ensure you've downloaded the appropriate template ZIP. Make a folder somewhere you can remember and extract the ZIP there.
The folder should now contain the folders META-INF, data, system, vrtheme, and a file called eviltheme.prop.
Open eviltheme.prop in a text editor (please use Notepad++ if you are on Windows!) and add your theme information there.
In the vrtheme folder, go to system and make a new folder called priv-app. Inside it, make another folder called Settings.apk. Make sure you capitalized correctly!
Now make folders as necessary, according to the location of the files you want to theme. For example, battery_icon_50.png is located in res/drawable-hdpi, so make a folder named res inside Settings.apk. Inside it, create a folder named drawable-hdpi, then paste your new battery_icon_50.png inside.
Repeat step 5 until you've placed your theme files in their appropriate locations.
When you're done, go back to the root folder of the theme (the one that contains new, vrtheme, etc.) and put all 5 objects in a ZIP file. You should use Deflate compression method only. Any compression level will work.[/u]
If the recovery that the theme is intended to be used with requires signing, sign the ZIP now.
Test your theme! :victory:
How do I uninstall a theme? If the theme was installed systemlessly, remove it in Magisk Manager.
Otherwise, flash the relevant zip in /data/eviltheme-backup.
How do I delete files inside APKs to be themed? To delete files, add the filenames to a text file named "delete.list" inside the APK theme folder.
This is an example of a delete.list:
Code:
res/drawable-hdpi/ic-launcher.png
res/drawable-xxhdpi/battery_full.9.png
How do I delete files that aren't inside APKs?You will also need a "delete.list". Remember to use full paths:
Code:
/system/app/Bloatware/Bloatware.apk
/system/etc/hosts
Put that in the "vrtheme" folder.
How can I exclude deleted files from being backed up?Eviltheme versions 3 and up will automatically back up files that your theme deletes (in non-systemless mode).
To exclude a file, add "no-backup" to the end of the corresponding line in vrtheme/delete.list.
Code:
/system/app/Bloatware/Bloatware.apk [B]no-backup[/B]
How do I force installation on /system?Eviltheme versions 3 and up will automatically install in systemless mode with Magisk 13.1+, but if you want to force your theme to install to /system, create a file named .eviltheme-force-system (notice the preceding dot) in /sdcard before installing.
I need to execute some commands during the theme (un)installation.Inside META-INF/tk/aureljared/eviltheme, there are files named "pre-install.sh-example", "post-install.sh-example", "pre-uninstall.sh-example", and "post-uninstall.sh-example". Remove the "-example" part from the file name of your desired script, and edit that file in the text editor (please please please use Notepad++ if you're on Windows).
Use the comments in that file as a guide.
Help section
The theme wasn't successful, and I believe that the problem lies in the engine itself.Post here describing the problem. Be as descriptive as possible. I will ignore all bug reports without an attached logcat dump and/or recovery.log. I'll try to look into the problem when time permits.
I am just a student, not a full-time developer. I may not be able to provide a fix for some bugs, so feel free to help me and everyone else out. If you know how to work with Git, an upstream patch to the project would be highly appreciated :good:
The theme was / wasn't successful, but I am stuck in a bootloop.Try wiping your Dalvik cache. If the problem is still there, uninstall the theme and post a bug report in this thread. Include the relevant /cache/recovery.log and the theme you installed.
The theme was successful, but the app I was theming does not reflect my changes. This is a tough one to solve. Try recompiling the APK itself with your theme files. If it works, it's either the problem lies in how you put the theme files in the ZIP, or maybe it's the script that's buggy. Try to make a ZIP again, following the instructions to the letter. If it still doesn't work, you can file a bug report here and attach your logcat dump, recovery.log, and (if you want) the themed APK.
The theme was successful, and now I'm ready to release my theme to the public. All I ask for is some credit and a link back to this thread. :fingers-crossed:
The theme wasn't successful, and I found a problem in your engine script(s).If you're familiar with Git, you can make a pull request to the EVilTheme repository.
If you don't know how to use Git, you can just edit the script(s) you need and send me a PM containing the fixed script(s). I'll add you to the credits list in the first post if your bugfix is effective!
Great work :good:
I particularly like the smart selective dalvik-cache wiping
Maybe it could be even smarter if the script only wipes an apk's dalvik-cache if the apk has had it's classes.dex replaced by the theme...
I'm working on something like this myself but mine is based on the unreleased GS2XFormROM by @hawkerpaul
I'll throw you a link when it's ready

Version 1.2 released!
v1.2: Link
What's new?
- Refinements to Smart Dalvik Wipe
- Switch to Linus Yang's BusyBox 1.21.1, which will hopefully make theming TouchWiz < 4.2 possible
- TWRP compatibility: switch to a static zipalign binary, grep method for OUTFD to look for updater binary
- Cleaner zip hierarchy: new apps to be installed to /system and /data are now in their respective folders in a folder named 'new'

Very good job on this...one thing, in kitkat 4.4.2 touchwiz roms half of the apps that need to be themed are in /system/priv-app. This folder location does not seem to be in your installtheme.sh script. I can manually change everything myself but if you would like other users to take advantage of your work, you may want to consider updating for these users.

Thank you @aureljared, deuce_biggins pointed me here, and I must say nice work to you.. Thank you
I tried to vrt a data/app, and it may have broke the signature.. It did theme the app, but it was no longer visible/available in my app drawer.. I could see the themed icon in data/app tho.. I don't think the original VRT could theme in data/app either... I did use your new version 1.3 with twrp on my Galaxy Tab 3, so that is good news.. It also made two folders on my internal sd, one was for data/app and one for system/app.. It did make a copy of the apk it themed in data/app, and placed it in the folder on my internal sd . I will test this on my Note 3 with twrp later..Thank you

@aureljared, just curous...to follow up on with what cerj said, have you ever successfully themed an app inside of /data/app with your VRT? Seems to kill the app every time, your thoughts?

No, I only tried it with the old VRTheme, and it didn't work either (no icon in drawer). I don't think it'll work on EVilTheme either as I haven't changed the process of /data/app.

It could be possible, if we can find a way to go around the sig verification. Or perhaps it just needs a Dalvik wipe, I don't really know [emoji26]
