Something's wrong my with N7. It won't update to 4.2 and when i try to restore it back to factory settings, I get a "EOCD Not Found" error message. How can I fix the issue?
It should have updated to 4.2.1 on its own before you even do wugs

Also if you go in wugs thread on your computer, you can usually gtalk with him and he'll help you.
He's good like that.

Yes, my computer does recognize it. I'll try to reach out to him on gtalk. Thanks.

When you downloaded the ROM, the download got screwed up, and therefore the zip wasn't signed correctly. Also if you unzip and rezip, it breaks signing. If it isn't signed correctly it wont flash. Its kind of like a safety so bad files do not get flashed and brick the phone. If you need help in fixing it i can help with that too, just ask.

Hi folks,
Posting on behalf of a friend, he recently switched sides from iPhone 5 to Note 3. After rooting his phone using Kingo 1.8, he accidentally renamed couple of folders under "System", most probably something related to SuperUser in order to make "Good for Enterprise" working on a rooted phone.
He took a system update shortly after getting the phone, MJ5 -> NB4, but now his device settings show both (Snapshot Attached). I would appreciate if someone can help us go back to stock.
There is a tutorial to return to MJ5 in the general section

here is the link that grey diggy was talking about. it does work - i have used it. it will take you back to MJ5 stock. just read and follow the directions. once you get everyting downloaded it should take about 20-30 minutes depending on how comfy you are with the tars and odin and what not.

He just tried it and it failed with an "invalid parameter" in Heimdall Suite in step 6.
He made it trough step 5 successfully including the "detect".

I don't have a usb 3 port on that laptop. I used the usb 3 cable that came from samsung and I'm running windows 8.1 pro with media center.
Windows 8 is an asset when it comes to this stuff...
Try a different USB port anyways.
If that doesn't work, try to find a computer with Windows 7.

I'm not hijacking the thread, I'm the stupid friend the OP is trying to help. This is the error message I get from Heimdall.
Heimdall v1.4.0
Initialising connection...
Detecting device...
Claiming interface...
Setting up interface...
Initialising protocol...
ERROR: Failed to send data!Releasing device interface...
I'll load Windows 7 tonight. Try with different USB cables (does usb 2 cable instead of usb 3 matter???) and different ports.
I never said you were hijacking the thread... I accidently quoted myself while trying to edit... so Idk if you think I was insinuating that you were hijacking. .. I figured you were the OP's friend with the issues.
The cable never mattered for me. It wouldn't hurt to try a different cable though.

Solved
I tried running in Windows 8.1 in administrator mode and compatibility settings for Windows 7. It wasn't working in Windows 8.1.
Fresh install of Windows 7 did the trick. I was able to finish running through that walk-through and I'm now rooted on MJ5 (downgraded from NB4 OTA). Thanks again for all your help. Now I just gotta make a proper backup of this before I break it again.
I've seen people mention in the past that you can freeze or rename a system app to prevent the ota checks. Anybody know how How on this device?

I tried several things last night to stop it. Went to bed last night and woke up with kitkat! Damnit! I know I can flash back and I know it's a minor thing but It takes at least an hour to backup and then get my phone back just the way I like it. I hate not having sd card. I will never buy another phone without one! Restoring a phone used to be so much easier.

If you're rooted and have customer recovery installed the OTA shouldn't install. It should fail and abort right after starting. Due to root and recovery. So I don't think there is anything to worry about. Unless you're completely stock out of the box. I know every time I've downloaded the update on a GS4 or RAZR maxx and tried to install it wouldn't. It just failed saying it couldn't find recovery or certain APks. And reboot back to the way I was.

You could probably get the nexus root toolkit and flash a complete stock ROM including the entire system image to get rid of it...

if you do not get hold of the previous owner, then that device will be a brick for you, a door stop for all intensive purposes.
Yeah, im thinking if you can get to the bootloader, you should be able to factory reset that.

sure, you can factory reset and flash anything you want, but itll ask for the previus users name and paasword before letting you finish booting. thats the whole point of google setting up this security feature, as it wouldnt be security if it didnt.

I've played with my nexus 6 and it has never asked for a username or password... It's just a pattern or pin and I have reset it when I had it setup. There is a option to have it enabled on boot up and also enabled when the OS loads. Maybe the guy didn't have the boot up option enabled

its a newer security feature, it came out with 5.1. if he sold the phone, and had his security feature enabled(even if he wiped the phone), itll ask you for it first, before you can change it. what he should have done is remove his account from the phone, but he didnt. theres a few threads here on xda about it.

nope.
if it was that easy to remove it, it would be considered extremely terrible security. but, if your phone gets stolen, at least it would be of no use to a thief.
