Hi, I had a few problems getting mine rooted but after a lot of frustration I finally managed it...
I'll take it from your post that the ADB drivers went on smoothly.
My main issue was getting the Kindle to be recognised for ADB to work...can you do the following:
Connect your Fire and open an elevated Command prompt. Drill into Bin4ry Stuff folder. If it's on the root, here is what you'd type in the command prompt:cd C:\Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v18\stuff
next type:abd devices
This will start ADB and check to see if your is connected. Can you post back the output...

It says I have one device attached..doesnt that mean adb is recognizing my kindle? So after that step I would run the RunMe.bat as admin and choose number 1 for normal and I get a ton of code that doesnt work. (The system cannot find the path specified blah blah). Even when I run the RootQemu I get "I must install device specific drivers..." I dont know what is wrong

I hope this helps. The following is step by step.
The problem "Device not Found" is usually driver related or ADB Security issue. I assume you have ADB enabled under Security - Enable ADB? Also enable "Allow Installation of Applications" under the Device tab - this will allow installation of Google Play applications. If all OK, move onto the next step.
Next, as per the Qemu thread noted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1893838 you will find a driver package named "Kindle_Fire_HD_ADB_Drivers.zip", be sure to install the ADB driver package. Reboot the PC and next the Kindle.
As you noted, if you want to use Google Play, you must Root the device. Just to keep everything consolidated, I will give you a brief Rooting instructions which works for Software 7.2.2 and 7.2.3.
Open the Windows Task Manager. Review the Processes. "End Process" on any adb.exe running. If you installed the Android SDK, there is probably a PATH Statement pointing to the platform-tools folder. To avoid adb.exe start-up conflicts, temporarily rename the SDK platform-tools folder to platform-tools-temp.
Download Root MANY ANDROID! to your desktop. Extract to your desktop. This package includes updated adb daemons.
Download Qemu automated root to your desktop. Extract to your desktop. This package includes updated adb daemons.
NOTE WINDOWS 7 USERS: You need to open a command prompt "as Administrator" when running the above utility batch files RunMe.bat and RootQemu.bat - otherwise Windows will respond with "Permission Denied".
Root Step 1: Run RunMe.bat from Root MANY ANDROID! http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1886460. Choose option 1 Run Normal Method and ignore errors. Pay attention, you will need to answer "Restore" a dialogue box on the Kindle. Click on Restore. When the program has completed, the Kindle will Reboot.
Root Step 2: When the Kindle reboots it will react VERY slowly, this is normal - leave it alone. Immediatly proceed to Step 3.
Root Step 3: Run RootQemu.bat from Qemu automated root http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1893838. Follow the instructions Step-by-Step allowing Windows to re-detect the Kindle between reboots (about 2 minutes). Let this utility complete to the end.
Root Step 4: Click on Superuser.apk under the Apps tab.
You should now have root AND if this is true your ADB communication is also functional. Finally to Google Play.
Play Step 1 Move GoogleServicesFramework.apk, AccountAndSyncSettings.apk and GoogleLoginService.apk to /system/app. Using Root explorer app on the Fire (be sure it has Superuser Permissions). Change permissions on both to Owner: Read-Write, Group: Read and Others: Read. Install both GoogleServicesFramework.apk, AccountAndSyncSettings.apk and GoogleLoginService.apk
Play Step 2 Reboot the Kindle
Play Step 3 Download Vending.apk
Play Step 4 Using Root explorer app on the Fire (be sure it has Superuser Permissions). Move Vending.apk to /system/app with permissions set to Owner: Read-Write, Group: Read and Others: Read.
Play Step 5 Install Vending.apk
Play Step 6 Google Play should show up in your Kindle Fire HD Apps. Tap on it and follow the steps.
Play Step 7 Download and install the Gplay3.8.17.apk to upgrade the the android market to the current Google Play market.
Play Step 8 Download google_apps - unzip to /sdcard/download
Play Step 9 Install Google Apps as needed. There is no need to move any of the apps to /system/app, just perform a normal apk install by using Root Explorer to install these apps.
I have provided download links of these above noted files to this thread.
Also, I have organized a few Google Apps & Services then zipped them into a folder you may download here: Google Apps. I have used all these Apps on my Kindle 7" HD successfully.
If you would like to disable the Amazon OTA Updates, delete or move /system/ect/security/otacerts.zip to /sdcard/download - Reboot the Kindle.
Finally, to eliminate Amazon from intercepting any Market requests, thus allowing Google Play to be the default Market move /system/app/MarketIntentProxy.apk to /sdcard/download - Reboot the Kindle

Thanks for this great guide, however I am a bit stuck at this stage. Just got a kindle fire HD today for christmas and straight away began to root it, however even though I have ended the adb.exe processes and renamed my android folder to platform-tools-temp I still get a "the system cannot find the path specified error" when running "Root with Restore by Bin4ry v18" even though I can detect the kindle using cmd --> adb devices when the android folder is platform-tools. Any advice you can give to allow it to detect my kindle fire?

I get to step 3, "Run RootQemu.bat from Qemu automated root"
And a little bit after the 1st reboot it says
Step 2 - Exploiting...
/system/bin/sh: cannot create /data/local.prop: Permission denied
:/
I have the kindle fire hd 7.2.3fw

Yep, pesky Windows 7. If you find your command prompt, you should be able to Right Hand Mouse click over the shortcut, then choose Run As Administrator - once you have an administrative prompt running, THEN you can navigate to each batch file using "cd".

If you do not have Google Play installed yet, then go to the Amazon App Store Search for Root Explorer. It should be free from Amazon too.

So i cleaned out all the drivers for the adb stuff. Factory reset the kindle and all that jazz.
Plugged in the kindle, looked in device manager and saw that it was showing as unknown thingy so i installed the drivers and they went through fine.
Renamed the folder in the android sdk. (
Got permission denied again on the 2nd bit of the qemu bat. Should i be ending the adb process when it says waiting for kindle after reboot?

Anybody else lose wifi, after rooting? It connects but the icon up top has an X on it. I have never seen this before

No, once the batch files are running they call to there own internal adb daemon. You do not want to kill these daemons.
So you are opening the CMD prompt "as administrator"? Then through the command prompt you are navigating to RunMe.bat?
You are NOT RH Mouse click over the batch file "as administrator", correct?
For some reason you can not directly run the batch files as administrator in Windows 7.

The batch files are running fine, its more accessing the files on the kindle when its doing what ever it does, i know i have permissions to do anything on this computer. Trust me I do all sorts of weird programmy stuff on this machine.
I just let the Qemu run through regardless of some inital errors and it said it gave me root anyway. I'm gonna see if its correct.

Yeah it's fully rooted. But the File Explorer app that people said was free on the amazon app store costs £5. Hmmm :/

Good job!
They got popular, now they are charging for it. Oh well, go ahead and download the Root Browser Lite this should get the job done. Although, if you plan to do a lot of upgrades on the Kindle Root Explorer is one of the best.

This is a bug, your wireless should be working fine.
I opened a discussion thread yesterday regarding this bug: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2064508
Judging by the feedback, they bug was first acknowledged in software version 7.2.3 and has been tied to another display bug, the GPS indicator.
No worries though, your wireless is working fine despite this erroneous indicator.

When it says move the apk's to /system/app, where is that? Do i need to use an ftp program or something?
I wish i could edit my posts sooner. Figured everything out, always seem to do that 10 seconds after posting on here.

The APK's are downloaded through the links I provided in the instructions. Once you have downloaded the APK's you move them around and install them using Windows Explorer and Root Explorer or similar application.
When your Kindle is plugged in, you will notice a Kindle drive in My Computer. You use this drive to get files from your PC to the Kindle, then you use Root Explorer on the Kindle to move them around and change file permissions.
Does this help?

Will try your steps on my girlfriends laptop on Thursday thank you so much

Do the instructions above start from the very beginning? You mention something about SDK platform-tools. I know i've seen that step in other threads, but its getting confusing (thanks for all of your help BTW). If there are steps before whats listed above, can you edit them back in? I feel like you can get everybody to the promised land if you can fill in a couple blanks. Thanks.

Getting Lotus Notes Traveler on non rooted Captivate phones (or other Android phone)

I hope this post can be of use to someone. My workplace is running Lotus Notes (sigh) and IBM recently released an update to their Traveler server which supports Activesync sychronizaton of mail, contacts, calendar and directory on Android, Iphone, etc.
The only problem is AT&T blocks Sideloading. Yes a simple root can fix the issue but that is not a true solution for every Captivate for our users. I figured out a relatively easy method of getting around this limitation.
First you need the following:
Rooted Captivate (to obtain the .apk files necessary) Only needed once, I would upload the necessary files but IBM won't like that very much.
Computer with Captivate drivers and Android SDK
The Lotus Traveler setup requires two installs which makes the process more tricky than simply doing an adb install lotusinstaller.apk, so we need a few more steps.
1. On your PC download the Lotusinstaller.apk file from your traveler server and copy it to you sdk\tools folder.
2. Plug your rooted Captivate phone into you computer with debugging mode on and use adb to issue the following command "adb install lotusinstaller.apk"
3. Open the installer application on your phone and enter the required server and authentication information for your system and click next. (this will create the server setting on the phone and download the lotustraveler.apk file to your rooted phone.) I can't remember the exact location so simply do an adb shell then "su" to gain super user rights and then do a find -name LotusTraveler.apk (or *.apk and find the lotustraveler.apk)
4. copy this file to your computer. One easy way would be to adb pull LotusTraveler.apk c:\location of sdk\tools\
Now that you have both the lotusinstaller.apk and lotustraveler.apk you will not need the rooted captivate for future phone setups.
5. Now to setup a stock Captivate. Enable usb debugging
6. adb install lotusinstaller.apk
7. launch the installer and enter the appropriate settings on the phone and click next. It will attempt to download the lotustraveler.apk and then give you an error about not being able to install applications that aren't from the market. Ignore that and close the installer.
8. now issues abd install lotustraveler.apk on your pc
You're done. The installer setup the initial server settings and the lotustraveler did the rest.
To setup more phones begin from step 5 from now on
***Disclaimer***
I wrote this up simply from memory so I'm sorry if this is not 100% accurate with the commands etc.

I'll try the wonder machine first. thanks for that tip.
Your suggestion won't work as stated in my walkthrough. The initial apk downloads another apk to your phone somewhere in the system directory. Once you have both apk files it's a simple "adb install lotusinstaller.apk" then "adb install Lotustraveler.apk"
wonder machine causes the issue of not being able to install the second apk file as stated in my last post. It can replace adb install after you have both apk files on your computer.
I need to get the second file to install it on my non-rooted phone.
Does anyone know the location of the download on the phone so it can be pulled via adb?

okey. So, after dancing with ... :cyclops: i was able to get root in my kindlefirehd. Unconfortable was that all this magic i did from my Windows 7 I wasnt able to do it from my gentoo. Dunno still why.
So, about rooting process in windows -> First problem was that adb.exe from both methods (in archve archive) didnt see my Kindle device, despite of fact that kindle storage presented in My computer. Every time i run adb.exe its told me that please insert device or device not visible for ADB.
Then, adb.exe devices returned me only empty output lines.
This problem was fixed by download Andloir SDK tools and copy ADB.EXE from platform-tools to the both unzipped directories from these rooting methods.
After completed first method my kindle was very slow. Second methond with Qemu solved it somehow
So, now i can edit some files via simple built-in texteditor. Also, TitanimBackup now installed on my device.
Also, there is a one note about linux. Especial for gentoo distribution with hardened kernel. Something (dont know still what exactly, maybe PaX configuration) causing that adb returns error :
PHP:
ADB server didn't ACK
* failed to start daemon *
error: cannot connect to daemon
If you run
PHP:
adb nodaemon server
it will show you exactly the reson what is wrong. In my case it was:
PHP:
error: Operation not permitted: cannot create input thread
.
Solving with command paxctl -m /path/to/file/adb
Hope somebody will found my note useful.

[Q] Help ADB & rooting KF HD: no device in ADB

Hello everyone. I am new to this site as well as rooting devices, so I apologize in advance for my newness.
I have a Kindle Fire HD
I'm trying to root it, mostly to add the google play store to it.
I've been following this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1893838
and have everything downloaded.
As far as ADB; I have it enabled on the kindle; it shows up under device manager as Android ADB Interface, but when I use the cmd “adb devices”, nothing shows up.
I have the google driver installed, I've added 0x1949 to the adb_usb.ini and added
“;Kindle Fire
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_1949&PID_0006
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_1949&PID_0006&MI_01”
to the proper spaces in the android_winusb as suggested in other threads... no luck.
I've spent the better part of my day trying to figure this out, browsing the forum and google; but now I'm just frustrated and have decided to give up and ask for help.

Hi, I have been having the exact same issue and like you have resorted to coming on here, been doing everything you have and still can't get anywhere, when I delete the drivers and then point it to the location of the edited driver file with
“;Kindle Fire
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_1949&PID_0006
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_1949&PID_0006&MI_01”
added it doesn't even find the driver. seems it can't use this android_winusb.inf file

I have seen this a lot over the last 3 weeks, so far every case has been solved by updating the ADB Server. Are you trying to Root the device or are you looking to do software development on the Kindle? If Rooting is all you are looking for, I have put together a small tutorial with updated ADB daemons.

How do you update the ADB Server? I tried entering 'android update adb' into cmd but it comes up as 'android is not a recognizable command'.
I haven't used cmd much since I was a kid so I could be entering it entirely wrong.

When the utilities to Root the Kindle were developed, most of them used old adb daemons (Let's face it, anything that is more than 4 weeks old is 'outdated'). Since most of us are using the adb daemon to Root the Kindle, I decided to focus on just that: Rooting the Kindle. If you are going to do Software Development around the Kindle than installing the Android SDK will be invaluable and necessary. Your error is usually the cause of a missing or erroneous PATH statement. Adding the correct PATH statement can cause QEMU and Root many Android to fail when each program calls to it's own embedded adb daemon.
Updating the adb daemon and API's are fairly easy, go to your favorite Android SDK vendor and download the needed updates and then replace the files. I use http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Rooting the Kindle should take you 10 minutes. Getting every aspect of the Android SDK to function can take 2 - 3 hours depending on your environment, software packages (like Eclipse IDE) to be used with the SDK, etc
I have the same problem. I followed amazon's instruction in setting up the development environment, and it worked after. "adb devices" command now recognize my fire HD.
https://developer.amazon.com/sdk/fire/setup.html
1) Download Kindle Fire ADB drivers from here, after that install it on your PC.
2) Activate ADB on your kindle, from notification area choose more > security and then turn on ADB.
3) Since this root tutorial utilizing ADB, you are advised to install Android SDK on your computer.
4) After that you have to connect your Kindle with ADB using USB cable, go to “platform-tools” folder on Android SDK installation, press and hold Shift key and then right-click and choose “Open command window here”.
5) To check whether the connection between the device and adb is correct, run the following command:
adb devices
6) In case the command shows nothing, you can try to run this command:
android update adb
adb kill-server
adb start-server
adb devices

I tried replacing the files with the sdk adb files, no luck. I think I'm going to just retry again tomorrow as it's getting late. I've got the day off tomorrow so I'm thinking of starting from scratch using your directions. There has to be something I'm doing wrong. Thank you for your help, I'll update tomorrow after I've tried again. Is there anything I should know about completely starting over, other than uninstall SDK, delete drivers, reset kindle?

1) Uninstall SDK
2) Remove any ADB Drivers installed
3) Reset the Kindle to Factory Default
The problem "Device not Found" is usually driver related or ADB Security issue. On the Kindle 7" HD go to Security - Enable ADB. Also enable "Allow Installation of Applications" under the Device tab - this will allow installation of Google Play applications. If all OK, move onto the next step.
Next, as per the Qemu thread noted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1893838 you will find a driver package named "Kindle_Fire_HD_ADB_Drivers.zip", you may download this package here: Kindle_Fire_HD_ADB_Drivers then install the ADB driver package. Reboot the PC and then reboot the Kindle.
If you want to use Google Play, you must Root the device. Just to keep everything consolidated, I will give you a brief Rooting instructions which works for Software 7.2.2 and 7.2.3.
Download Root MANY ANDROID! to your desktop. Extract to your desktop.
Download Qemu automated root to your desktop. Extract to your desktop.
NOTE WINDOWS 7 USERS: You need to open a command prompt "as Administrator" when running the batch files RunMe.bat and RootQemu.bat - otherwise Windows will respond with "Permission Denied".
Proceed to Step 3.
Root Step 3: Run RootQemu.bat from Qemu automated root http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1893838. Follow the instructions Step-by-Step allowing Windows to re-detect the Kindle between reboots (about 2 minutes). The first two 'steps' are just dialog boxes, just press Enter, Enter. Following the instructions, complete all steps to the end.
Root Step 4: Click on Superuser.apk under the Apps tab.
You should now have root AND if this is true your ADB communication is also functional. Finally to Google Play.
Using the Amazon App Market, search for "Root Explorer", it should be free. Download and install Root Explorer, once done open Root Explorer and "Allow" Root to initialize.
Also, I have organized a few Google Apps & Services then zipped them into a folder you may download here: Google Apps. I have used all these Apps on my Kindle 7" HD successfully.
Extract google_apps to the folder named "Download" on the Kindle drive in My Computer.
Play Step 1 Open Root Explorer, navigate to /system/app/ Mount RW (Press upper RH box that says Mount RW). Now move GoogleServicesFramework.apk, AccountAndSyncSettings.apk and GoogleLoginService.apk from /sdcard/download to /system/app. Using Root explorer app on the Kindle (be sure it has Superuser Permissions). Change permissions on all 3 packages to Owner: Read-Write, Group: Read and Others: Read. Install both GoogleServicesFramework.apk, AccountAndSyncSettings.apk and GoogleLoginService.apk
Play Step 2 Reboot the Kindle
Play Step 3 Move Vending.apk from /sdcard/download to /system/app.
Play Step 4 Using Root explorer app on the Kindle (be sure it has Superuser Permissions) modify the Vending.apk permissions to Owner: Read-Write, Group: Read and Others: Read.
Play Step 5 Install Vending.apk
Play Step 6 Google Play should show up in your Kindle Fire HD Apps. Tap on it and follow the steps.
Play Step 7 Install the Gplay3.8.17.apk in /sdcard/download to upgrade the the android market to the current Google Play market.
Play Step 8 Install final Google Apps as needed. There is no need to move any of the apps to /system/app, just perform a normal apk install by using Root Explorer to install these apps.
I have also attached copies of the above noted files to this thread.
If you would like to disable the Amazon OTA Updates, delete or move /system/ect/security/otacerts.zip to /sdcard/download - Reboot the Kindle. You will not loose any functionality by moving this file.
Finally, to eliminate Amazon from intercepting any Market requests, thus allowing Google Play to be the default Market move /system/app/MarketIntentProxy.apk to /sdcard/download - Reboot the Kindle
Enjoy.

[Q] No usb connect?

Had to factory reset kfhd7 and when I did, it booted up like an android phone. ... Now there's no browser and I can't get play to work. Usb debug is enabled but when I connect to the computer to try and push a browser, my computer doesn't recognize it. I have all the newest drivers installed and just about every program that I can think of (adb, sdk, jdk) What I don't have is a fastboot cable. Any ideas?
Missing my kindle
Edit* So I do have chrome installed but when I open it, I get an error message saying "critical functionality required to run chrome is missing; either your chrome installation is incomplete, or not compatible with this version of android"
Terminal emulator installed too but when I try to open it I get a "terminal emulator has stopped" error.
Super SU installed, works.
No es file explorer
edit#2
Ok, so I decided to open cmd just to see if I can recognize my device.... and it did! So how can I fix my kindle if adb is connecting?
Edit#3 adb devices shoes device but when running a command, it says "device offline"....
Edit#4 plugged usb into another port and reloaded drivers = adb connects, device is online. I have tested by pushing an app to the sdcard. My goal now is to be able to push es file explorer to /system/app/ .... or ..... /data/app/ ...... or where ever it will become active for use. (you know what I mean?) I don't know how to change the permissions via adb and push to system folder. I believe I have successfully pushed es file explorer to the /sdcard/ but I have no idea where to go next.
Now what..... ?

Krsmqn,
Sorry for the delayed response, we have been real busy the last few days. You may use the
following command to install or reinstall software on the Kindle:
Code:
adb kill-server
adb start-server
adb devices
android update adb
If adb is working move on to install software:
Code:
adb install package-whatever.apk
You need to make sure the .apk software package in in the same directory as adb. If
you can not get the Kindle stable you may need a USB Factory Cable, you may order
one from XDA User SkOrPn just send him a PM with the subject Factory Cable Info Please,
include your ship to country and number of cabled needed. He will respond with a PayPal
Invoice. The cable is about $15 USD and is worth every penny since it allows quick
recovery of your Kindle.
prokennexusa,
I want to thank you for all your help. Unfortunately, my issue was kind of a rare issue. I had deleted some amazon apps that were system apps. I tried your solution time and time again to no avail. I was stumped until I remembered a thread I saw in development.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886189
I was able to download and unzip the 7.2.3 update version and simply install the apks that I was missing. Then, as far as google play went, I just went into System>Applications>Installed Applications>Appstore (Amazon)> Force stop, clear data & cache. Reinstalled Vendor.apk and then updated. Viola!
The USB notification came back, as well as all the other options in settings. Problem solved. Hope this helps future users.

Krsmqn,
Great post Krsmqn, I am glad to hear your problems are solved! We offer a fresh copy of the /system/app
folder here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/54456659/app.zip
Anyone who is experiencing odd issues can download this folder and side load it back to the Kindle through
adb or ES File Explorer. Thank you again, I was getting a bit worried.

[Q] Kindle Fire 7" Root

Hi all,
I'm new here, and I've been trying for the past few hours to root my Kindle Fire HD 7" so I can install a CM10.1 ROM and turn it into a google tablet. I've been searching the web for information, and I kept getting directed here so I decided I might as well join.
Anyway it seems the one method that works is the Bin4ry one, and I started following the instructions given on this site and others. However when I installed the driver, it said the installation was successful but when I clicked "Finish" a window popped up and told me the driver didn't install properly. Then I tried to execute the "Run Me" file, but it gave me this:
"Please connect device with enabled USB-debugging to your computer.
the system cannot find the path specified
doing a backup first, please confirm this on your device
the system cannot find the path specified
Done!"
Nothing happens on the Kindle Fire. But I checked the Device Manager, after I downloaded and installed a driver linked in a thread on this forum, it said the Kindle was USB-enabled interface. Anyone have any idea what the problem is, here? Thanks
Ok did you enable usb-debugging in the kindle's security settings? If you have try opening a command prompt and CD into the directory of the adb command in binary's root tool, run adb devices and see if the kindle is listed.

Yep, USB-debugging is enabled. It's the same thing as enabling ADB, right? This is what I've done thus far. I'm running Windows 8, so I've disabled driver signature enforcement, and also installed the drivers. I've checked Device Manager---the system has recognized the Kindle as a Google Android ADB interface, and if I check adb devices in cmd prompt, the serial number of my Kindle is listed. Also created an adb_usb.ini file according to these instructions:
"open adb_usb.ini with notepad
(add on one line each!)
0x1949
0x006
save file."
The problem now is not that nothing happens on the Kindle when I run the root tool, I do get the option to restore data but it prompts me to enter a data encryption password. I researched this and a techleopard article said to enter my Amazon password, which I did but nothing happens. The data restore options (Restore or Do Not Restore) just grey out and the root tool just says "Running" for ever and ever. Tried some other root tools such as Quemp and Kindle Fire Utility, but neither worked and besides the more recent information I've seen have Bin4ry's as the only one that works on 7.4.6 which is the OS I am using.
EDIT: Okay, tried it again and for some reason this time the root tool ran successfully. I did a power reset, and ran a RootChecker, and it says it's rooted but I can't find the SuperUser app (the checker also could not find it). Was the root still successful?
Probably though I am throwing a guess that only the such binary is installed, look in the /system/xbin folder and see if the such binary is there, if you want to to retry the process just delete that file. I was going to mention the encryption password is whatever your lock screen code is set to.
BTW don't ever use kfu to try to root your kindle, it will hard brick it. Its designed only for kf1's.

Heh, actually after a LOT of messing around, and perusing several articles across the web and on xda, I've got it working. KFU didn't brick anything, just didn't work. My only regret is that I now can't access the HD quality movies I'd bought from Amazon because Amazon only allows downloading to the Kindle and the Kindle only, and my internet isn't fast enough to stream HD.
