this might be a noob question
most of love the different thems that are present in cyanogen mod or aokp
since we do not have a FULLY BUG FREE cyanogen mod or aokp is there a way to run install the cm7 theams without the cyanogen mod
as we know we have a working cm 7 with bugs but the thems work without any problem in it. so is there any chance that the them chooser
integreated into other roms or just make them work without cm7

You cant do that
It is impossible
Because the themes integrate values and pngs in framework
Which will be incompatible on other devices
Theme engine is needed for proper working of themes which can run on supported framework-res.apk and systemui.apk.
For you, Simple answer is NO.
I don know HOW, but, it IS possible.
Not only by installing themechooser.apk and the themes (cyanbread.apk and androidian.apk), but modding a few system files.
CyanogenMod also has the capability ! !

Yes, but it would take a really long time, like six months of development. I guess no one would work on that.
I read somewhere that Theme Chooser is taken based on T-Mobile's rom source and CM team bring it for their source. Not sure if it is correct.

I'd like to know if there's any chance to have a port of this Apps to custom Roms ?
Actually, it seems to be limited to Cyano Mod :'(
Technically, since the theme chooser is open source, any AOSP ROM can have it as long as the dev includes it. Just ask the dev. TMobile has all the source code on their github.
Since we do have some progress on CM7 for our device, why don't we start the development on MIUI as well?
Just to give you an idea of what MIUI is:
http://en.miui.com/
Developers are welcome! I am really new in porting builds in kitchens, but I am ready to get my hands dirty on this one
I have knowledge on working in linux environments, compiling kernel/modules, scripting, but lack of android kitchen knowledge, any pointers where to start will be great!
With jerpela/blagus and other developer's permission, perhaps if I have any questions and or needed files/drivers/etc for building MIUI up, I can ask?
I'll start a git hub or cvs for this project as well - let me know if you wanna get involved too!
this might be a good place to start...
[TUTORIAL] porting miui nexus rom to x10
BTW... Arc is using MSM8255 chip... so u can look at all compatible devices... like HTC Desire HD, HTC Desire Z, others....
u will mostly have to uses/mix files from SE stock libs + other places...
just one request... whenever u use files from someone else kindly give them credit for it, cause they have worked hard to make those fles working... a link to their ROM/patch/etc would be also be a good idea...
best of luck!
Well that's a good news.
Start over with your project. We can give help @ some problems, but not at all now
BTW: I cannot understand why you like MIUI, but that's quite personal I hate Iphone noobish layout.

Bin4ry: one of the few reasons is that it has a fully customizable theming engine in the back where u can just customize quite a lot of things like status bar, fonts, icons, etc, instead of using a third party launcher. Anyway like you said, it's a personal taste thing
Thanks everyone for the heads up, will spend the long weekend to work on this!

CM7 theme engine is great.
BTW, I'm not a dev and don't understand about porting FW right now. but I'm really interested about this android world and custom FW. Maybe I'll start with reading thread you provided
i would like it lean please
god news for us as development for arc is very limited and slow

CM7 theme management is great, mind you, but again it's personal taste I guess. Been living on CM7 since G2 Hero, HD Mini, X10, HD2, Desire Z, SGS, got tired I guess I like the fact that MIUI allows customization based on components instead of a full theme overhaul, and notifications are top-to-bottom toast popups, built in ftp, fonts, etc. Perhaps these can all be replaced by updating framework-res, or installing customized fonts, etc. But ease of use is also my concern...
Aaaaanyway before i go full throttle and brag on about its good vs bad, I shall stop and thank DooMLoRD for the X10 guide!

Miui its not about themes, its a full android custom rom. Own file manager, music , camera, gallery, and mucho more.
I don like iphone style too but you can custumize miui like hell

you have to use precompiled miui because there is no source released and this is like porting any other rom from any device, you can do the same with htc sense
in our opinion this mixing of libs should not be done, take an source and build your own rom then theme it as you like
mixing libs is not desired, even if filename is the same there are many things to be considered!
Main thing for miui
Ramdisk
.sh etc files
Libgsl
Hw and hw config files
I don't know arc files so may need other core files not in miui rom
Then you make sure media and system server work correct and should at least boot
Then backsmali service jar and configure power and native daemon are correct
Sent from my X10 X10projectMiUI using XDA App
i seriously cannot wait for this! Really hope Muiu comes for the Arc! I think its more needed than wanted. SE's android interface is aweful!

Thought it was just me, just bought the arc because I was impatient waiting for GB on the X10.. trips miui cam works well but i hate the layout.
The Arc has GB, a great cam & an unlocked BL.. so bring on the AOSP 2.3.4 & CM7 roms..
i'm just curious about the lockscreen rdannar demonstrated in x10 miui rom, the rest i distaste a bit ^^
would be much more excited to see this lockscreen in other roms.
still - keep going & develop this rom, if not use this one, one might take parts of the work for use it elsewhere. dont think effort will be lost here
I can't wait for this, i'd love to see Miui running on my Arc.
i would love this aswell, if there is anything i can help or try please let me know!
very noob question : do we need custom kernel to make miui rom works on arc? case like in CM7, stock kernel can't work with CM.

Remember, if u come from another version of miui, don't wipe anything!
Wifi & Bluetooth still not working, something to do with framework.jar, whoever can fix it, pls do so... oldskul solution not applicable for this from.
Other than these bugs, overall performance very good, very smooth with ics transition effect. Pls reapply default theme after flashing, ram also good.
"Android 4" appeared in phone status bcoz of the framework merge, not bcoz of any modification in build.prop as rumoured b4.
Should i ask donation for this work? I don't know, just like to do it but if u willing, my PayPal ac at [email protected]

will try this for a while later...
thanks
framework.jar = theme
& yes the build.prop thing is true
we are just getting look of theme from ics not ics full features.. not even the framework is pulled from ics its redegined by ui drsigners coz' framework pulling from another version is specific for device & will not be working without dependencies on other components, & which will be deflecting bugs ,when you are to make a AOSP rom targeting various devices... (& this is simple themes so apps don't coz'ing compatibilty issue with ics which you will see on a full ics rom, think about i & also if each phones framework dependencies are same then we could get the most simpler things like theme engine directly working on phones stock roms)
so the build.prop thing is true
so nothing from ics, this was out earlier the ics code was released, so all credits to designers who engage such a brilliant skills... hope everyone understand & also the work of galnet coders..
i also appriciate your efforts to port this
A full ICS Rom Would be out today for our devices by Edowar Today..
That's a great news nintindeck.... finally ics will arrive...

wow.. thats great news??
will it be out today for sure??
I was just sitting and this question comes in my mind that why aosp dont hav theme chooser and cm builds hav
Even latest jelly bean dont seems to support themes
Whats the reason google dont provide this feature ??
cause theme chooser isnt a part of the original google android ;7
it is called also: tmobile theme engine ....
so its a part of tmobile and not from google
Send from my Galaxy Tab P1000 using Android 4.1 Alpha 0.1
But google shud provide this feature either they make their own theme engine or whatever
It will be a huge improvement
No. T-Mobile adds that to their devices. Google doesn't make it, AFAIK.
what is in the settings -> Themes ? Isn't it the same?
Why should they add theme support, it's just one more unneeded .apk in our internal memory.
I delete ThemeChooser.apk from CM7.2 right after flashing, as well as ~20 other apps i don't need, or have a replacement app for them. Makes the phone faster (no services running in RAM that i'm not using), and leaves free space for other apks

I guess it's only you, because I would LOVE to see theme chooser similar to the one from miui, so i could have stability of cm7, and theming features of miui. That would be awesome
*edit* sorry, didn't noticed it's about ice roms
We aren't all the same, the most important thing is we have choice . Except ICS roms, they don't have theme support yet (AOKP does i think).
Both, CM9 and AOKP, have theme chooser.

i agree with f4uzan, some modifications on framework are needed on this rom, and it is not ready for daily use ,
if you're like me prefer ICS i recomend you use cm9 by the Whisp , only video recording is not working on that. :victory:
or still waiting news releases on aosp
