[Q] Problem rooting Kindle Fire HD 7" - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When trying to root kindle fire with Qemu Root I cannot because of one tiny problem, I can't install the Kindle fire ADB drivers.exe. Everytime I try to it says "The drivers were not installed properly, please install manually" it's really annoying because it is the only thing stopping me from rooting my Kindle which I really want to. Thanks in advance for any help you may have!

I am also having this problem.

Nobody seems to know the problem to this. Maybe all the drivers are outdated but I have tried countless links and they can't all be outdated can they?

What operating system are you guys on?

Try following instructions in this link:
https://developer.amazon.com/sdk/fire/connect-adb.html
Make sure you do the [android update adb] command. I've had to do that every time I've had to install drivers.

I FINALLY figured it out if your running windows 8

I need to root the KFHD 7 and i need too to know the way to instal the adb drivers in windows 8 , can somebody write how can we do ?
Thanks.

Here is the solution!
Put your cursor in the upper right hand corner of the screen and scroll down, then go t settins, change pc settings, then to general. From there go to advanced startup up at the bottom and click restart now. Then click troubleshoot, advanced settings, and the option that says to allowdriver signatures (I think it is in startup setting but I'm not sure because I've already done it then click restart and reinstall the drivers

For people with Windows 8:
I rooted my kindle using my laptop with Windows 8 / 32 bits.
I could not install adb drivers in my other laptop with Windows 8 / 64 bits , but in the 32 bits all was ok and I rooted in a few seconds.
And drivers install correctly in 32 bits .

So apply them manually. Find the device in "device manager" , it will stand out, ... right click and go from there. You will have to know where the driver is located on your machine.

[Q] ADB is failing to recognise Kindle Fire

I bought my KF a week ago, on the basis that I would be able to root it seeing the variety of threads of successful roots. I bought the Non-HD 2nd Gen. My issue is that whilst my computer is able to recognise the Kindle Fire, ADB devices show nothing connected (Yes, the KF is in debug mode in Settings). I have installed the correct ADB drivers countless times, I have even tried to do it on 3 different computers, and none of them are able to recognise the KF in ADB. (BTW, I have been doing the QemuRoot method.)
I was wondering if you are able to post any suggestions? I have tried it on Windows 7 32bit and Windows XP 32bit. Thank you.
According to the Amazon ADB Guide...
Windows users only: If you previously connected your device to your computer without first enabling ADB, you will need to force a re-installation of the driver. See the Known Issues section for instructions on how to remove and re-install the device driver.

This was my initial issue.
So I did the uninstall according to their steps.. then enabled ADB on the KF.
Then plugged it back in and it shows KF as an unknown device.
Then I got the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 drivers from the Android SDK and install them. Now my KF is seen by ADB.
I've attached a link to the drivers

Thanks

Thanks for the link to the Amazon page. I did uninstall the drivers the way Amazon reccommends, and install the 8.9 drivers, that didn't work. So I downloaded the android SDK, and used the Kindle drivers which came alond with the SDK, and that finally worked. The odd thing is that ADB now recognises my device as ADB, but device manager doesn't, but that's not a problem, at least now I'm rooted on 10.2.1. (Wifi is off on my Kindle, so I do not get an OTA update to 10.2.3)
Since you still have 10.2.1 can you pull some system images for us who have 10.2.3 and lost root?

Yes, I could do that. I'd need detailed explanation on how to do it though, as I'm not experienced when it comes to Android.
I sent you a pm. If you have root and adb it should be straight forward.

[Q] Playstore app trouble

Hi all,
I managed to get my Kindle fire HD 7.2.3 rooted today thanks to XDA!!
I've now got the google play store but on quite a few of the apps i want i get:
'Your device isn't compatible with this version'
Is there anything i can do to resolve this or is it something i have to put up with?
Thanks
P.S. Is there any other cool things i can do now i'm rooted, I've stopped the ads on the lock screen, anything else people would recommend?
Most have just sideloaded those apps. Good luck!

Don't mean to hijack your thread, but how'd you manage to get yours rooted? I just got my KFHD 7.2.3 and evidently this doesn't work for this version.

It was a bit of a nightmare, I wasn't getting anywhere, then I did a few things and it started to work so I'm not sure what rectified the problem, 1 is to make sure u have androidSDK installed this then let me see my device when I typed adb devices in to the cmd window, then I went to task manager an stopped a process called adb.exe or something similar and when you want to open the bin4ry root folder. Right click on the unzipped folder on your desktop an click start command here, then the command window opens, then type the name of the file RunMe.bat press enter then it all worked from then on in! When you have to open the Qemu.bat do the same, right click on the folder on the desktop, hope it works for you

[Q] Kindle Fire 2. Generation = Kindle Fire HD?

Hi,
I recently got a 2. Generation Kindle Fire and would like to turn it into an ICS Android Tablet. However, I am not quite sure where to look for a suitable tutorial / whether I could possibly run into troubles when rooting my Kindle and using a clean version of Android instead.
I am posting in here because I do not have access to the Kindle 2 development forum and there is no Q&A Board for my particular device.
So, I'm not totally unexperienced in regards to computers and stuff, but completely new to tablets and regarding operating systems.
I did read this and this, but people kept running into technical problems. On one hand, the boot screen would always have to remain or some particular apps won't probably or on the other hand the kindle would keep updating itself to prevent the foreign os from working probably - or not not working at all.
I would like to just spend one afternoon reconfiguring my kindle 2 (not HD) and then not run into technical issues every few weeks. Is that even possible or is the developement regarding my advice not advanced enough, yet?
Sorry for the inconvenience; I read some general advice on rooting beforehand, but can't quite figure out whether it also applies to my particular device or not. (For example, will Kindle 7 HD stuff also work with my device?)
Thanks in advance!
I used the first link provided to root and install play store.
Once play store was installed I bought kindlefree for 1.99 which allowed me to install a custom launcher and remove ads from the lock screen.
AFAIK we cannot use anything from the HD 7"... but I just got this device today and haven't a clue yet.
Once I have more of a clue... watch out!!
Edit: using custom launcher is not quite perfect.. some apps don't notify my unless I start them (Google+).

pretty much correct.
I ran into an issue...
I tried the first method as suggested, but when I try to run "runme.bat" from Qemu, it hangs at "* daemon started successfully *"
I downloaded the ADB drivers from the link. When those failed to install properly (repeatedly, giving me the exact same issue as linked above), I uninstalled, downloaded the Android SDK, got the proper files for the KF2, made sure I killed the ADB process before I started, I ran cmd as admin, I basically followed every instruction from the original post to the letter. I'm working with a KF2 (not HD) running 10.2.4. Any ideas? Suggestions?
Thanks so much!

You will have to install the drivers manually through the device manager on windows.

That did it. My fault--I assumed that, when I installed through the Android SDK, it had taken care of installing the drivers as necessary.
Thanks!

Lol. 99.999999% of the time that would be correct. If i hadn't had the same issue i wouldn't have known how to fix it. Mine kept picking up the adb drivers for my samsung phone. Needless to say- that didn't work

[Q] Want to unroot my Kindle

Hi,
Brand new to this site so no idea what I'm doing but I'll explain my problem, and I am a bit of a n00b when it comes to technical speak so bear with me!
Rooted my Kindle Fire HD 7" to get the Playstore and to disable the ads
Working well, but then I decided to get rid of automatic updates as whenever one came along, all my hard work was erased
Now I feel my Kindle is running slowly and I want to un-root all the work I did, and get it back to the way it was
I have performed a factory reset (probably a massive mistake!) and attempted to un-root it. But whenever I go on my Bin4ry program, and click to unroot, it says "Error: Device not found"
It comes up when I go into My Computer, and I have installed all necessary drivers, and enabled ADB...
I have tried to install the latest update for the Kindle Fire HD from the Amazon site as some people have said that worked, but I assume because I disabled automatic updates, it didn't work.
I am using Windows 7
I have a Kindle Fire HD 7"
So how can I unroot it? Please help me!

Use KFFA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888 You can do about anything from that tool. Just don't try to install TWRP or 2nd bootloader from there.

Many Superuser apps include the 'unroot' function in their settings. If the one you installed doesn't have the setting, just install supersu or CWM's Superuser app from the market, boot it up, let it take over the su and then use that app to unroot. (Choose "Install", Do Not Choose "Recovery Install"! ;p)
The fact your Kindle Fire isn't recognized by your bin4ry tool is maybe because of your factory reset resetting the Debug over USB setting in your settings. Re-enabling that will probably make it visible again to Bin4ry, since Bin4ry uses ADB (Android Debugging Bridge).

[Q] How to root kindle fire HD 7" version 7.4.8?

I've been browsing Kindle fire HD root videos and forums all day. There seem to be almost none for the 7.4.8 version. I cannot find any videos or tutorials for my kindle version. Do I need to downgrade? If so, how? Where do I begin? I'm a newbie.
Root it just like you would the other versions. Binary's root or kffa root, if nothing else works just downgrade it, those are prerooted.

Asides this, will I also be able to successfully root through the tutorials on youtube which are meant for version 7.4.6?
They should work, as far as I know nothing has ever changed in the rooting process for this device.

Thank you
I also lost root with the update to 7.4.8 a few days ago.
I originally rooted my kindle with bin4ary's root, but that program was able to re-root it.
Thank you for suggesting KFFirstAide because that program was able to restore root for me.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I rooted a 7.4.8 this week, it was no different to do than before it was upgraded, I think the user had upgraded the firmware to 7.4.8 and caused a boot loop problem, so it had to be put back to stock and then re-rooted, just take your time and follow all the instructions to the letter, I used "Root Many Android" as the software, also ensure the ADB drivers are correctly installed >and working< and you set the windows Enviromental Variables path correctly, ensure the kindle is charged up before you start. Good luck

Eh... Not exactly the best place to ask for help fixing your pc. That can be more difficult to explain how to fix over the net, If you want someone to repair your pc for free then pm me or hit me up on skype, i can fix pc's remotely assuming it still gives you network access and lets you install programs, and also assuming the virus isnt the kind that prevents me from fixing it short of pulling the hard drive and scanning it remotely. However i will say this, if your programs list only has 3 programs on teh add remove page, its possible some registry keys were deleted.
If however you are looking for the kindle fire 7 hd 2012 root utility, use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888
if its the 2013 model, don't use that there's another tool for it.
