[Q] PLEASE HELP Kindle is broke - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Very, very long story short, a (seemingly) successful root using a method from these forums broke my Kindle. The keyboard won't show up and I can't get into the settings menu. The entire thing factory reset itself other than that, meaning I have no way to do anything with it, and I don't have debug or install unknown apps enabled. I literally just got this thing. Please help.

[Q] Refurbed NOOK Color dilemna

The LCD has gone haywire on my NC and I can't see any of the screens to reset it to stock.
I am running MIUI on it, and did the 8 consecutive reboots to get it to boot into recovery, but I can't see the options on the screens.
B&N has the replacement on the way, I just need to send this back per the agreement.
Any ideas on how I can get thing back to factory given that parts of the screen is unreadable?
What would you do?

Use ADB to make it unbootable, just start removing directories.
you can try something like this
Code:
adb shell
format SYSTEM:
format DATA:
format CACHE:
I had the same problem. I used android screencast to help me wipe my nook. It didn't work especially well but it will display the screen on your PC so that you can see what's going on. Unless it's been updated since I did it the screen will be turned 180 degrees and you won't be able to control it from the PC but it will work well enough to help you see what's going on.

Thanks guys...I've never used ADB, but I am downloading the SDK now. Its taking forever.
I think I may be able to figure it out between both of those suggestions.
The only other question I have is about my registration for the Market. I read one place where you should deregister your device before the new one comes in. How can I do that if I can't go into settings?
There's no way to deregister the device without doing it from the device itself. If you do the screencast option you can go through the steps to deregister the device which will in turn return it to factory condition and obviously remove it from your account on BN.

You don't deregister from the Android Market, although you probably want to deregister the Nook from your Barnes and Noble account and you can do that over the phone with B&N support.
I'm stuck.
I can't get Screencast to work because I can't check to see if it's in debug mode or detected by adb devices.
All I see is the boot recovery screen with a bunch of lines going through. The only option that is visible is "wipe cache partition".
If someone could tell me what other options are on this menu, so I can navigate up and down to reset this thing, that would be great.
Like, how many clicks down or up on each screen to completely wipe and reset to stock.
Or, if I just returned on RMA this thing, as is, would that prevent them from sending me a replacement (which I mistakenly though they did already)?
Who has screenshots of all the boot menus?
Bump - any thoughts?

[Q] Urgent help required (Device appears dead)

Hello,
This is my first time posting here, and I would like to request anyone on here to please assist me with the problem I am currently facing. I bought an unlocked, rooted HTC One with stock Android 4.3 installed as it's sole, primary OS this past summer. The person I bought it from is the one who actually rooted the phone, as my knowledge of such processes is fairly limited. I understand there are plenty of complications that I may run into dealing with this problem on my own and technical references may be lost on me, but I'm fairly competent enough to follow instructions from someone who may be able to help.
Here's the problem: I received an Android 4.4 OS update yesterday, which downloaded automatically and asked me if I wanted to install it. I thought the process would be fairly simple and I would not encounter any problems. However, when I asked the update to register and install, first it went into boot (I'm not certain which software was used for root), then the process started and everything seemed to be going fine until 'Patching files onto the whatever' came up and then it appeared that I encountered an error and the phone automatically went into what I can only assume is the bootloader menu? There were big Stock Android looking buttons on it which said things like Install, Root, Settings and a few others I don't recall. I tried to hit Install to see what happened and it brought me back to the part where 4.4 was supposed to be installed and I could read the error message at the end of it which said something like 'Error in patching files to zip folder or something', and I went back to the supposed bootloader menu. Confused and afraid, I think I pressed a button which I felt would allow me to reboot my phone and bring me back to my original 4.3 OS and that I would still be able to use my phone. First it said something like 'You no longer have root permissions', and there was an option where I could slide to apparently 'fix this', but I selected the 'don't fix' option as I obviously had no idea what I was doing. After this, the phone attempted to reboot, and a turquoise blue screen with strange markings came up on it and my phone hung. I killed the phone with the master power button and held it to switch off the phone.
BUT now, even since that has happened, my phone appears to be dead. It isn't starting up. When I put it on charge, the red LED doesn't show up. I have tried to used several ways to turn on my phone but it just wouldn't work.
I would like some light to be shed on this particular problem, and if anyone has experienced something similar to this, PLEASE, help me in fixing this. I am an eager learner and despite my limited, close to non-existent knowledge about dealing with a phone's OS, I know I can learn fast and follow instructions cleanly.
Please help me. Thank you.

[Q] Verizon Moto X Pattern Lock Predicament

Thanks for trying to help guys but he lost the data and worked on re-installing his apps last night. I reported this thread to be removed.

So I have a pretty big problem here, and I'm having a ton of trouble finding a proper solution.
My college roommate has a Verizon Moto X, and long story short, he wasn't doing homework and was doing stupid stuff on his phone, so I took it and made a pattern lock for him. I didn't know he was going to try to figure it out, and he wound up trying to unlock it 10 times. After the tenth time, with no prior warning, the phone rebooted. It then proceeded to try to erase his phone. I turned it off and it keeps trying to erase it. I got into the bootloader by holding power and volume down, but is there any way to fix this? I don't think the phone has erased yet, but we're trying to get it to actually boot up. Please help me out if you know a solution. We may have to just let it erase but I really hope we don't have to do that.
Thanks a ton!!!!
EDIT So it just rebooted and it's all gone. Any way to fix it?!?!

Its gone.....
Try these solutions,

Good chance all your data will be gone tho. That's just how its made to work. I'd never use these unlock things. My kids would definitely mess my phone up. I just don't keep anything sensitive on my phone.
I had no clue that if you entered incorrect info 10 times it would factory reset your phone. Is that automatic or is that just an option?

Automatic. Doesn't do that on my Galaxy S4 though.

[Q] Kindle Fire 7", no home button, can't swipe, no settings displayed

I'm new to this forum and hoping I can get a bit of help.
I know NOTHING about what most of you guys do with rooting and changing out your systems and all that good stuff, however, I'm having a problem and your forum was the place that looked like the most likely able to help since I can't get amazon to get back to me .
My stock kindle fire had/has a problem with randomly turning off, especially in the middle of videos. A pain, but I lived with it. Then one day, this happened, and when I turned it back on, the home button, swipe from the top function, all settings, etc. had mysteriously vanished. Also, the keyboard displays what I believe are some Japanese characters. My apps all appear on the screen, but it won't connect to wi-fi and to get out of anything, I have to turn it off completely.
Like I said, this was just a stock kindle (not even sure which version...sorry!) and this just seems so random, but I'm *hoping* maybe somebody can help me get it to a functioning state again? Maybe if I could reboot it to factory settings? Not sure what would fix it, but any help would be appreciated. Please keep in mind that I am just a casual kindle user with no experience with tinkering with systems, and really just want it back to plain old annoying amazon stock. Don't have your lingo down either, so please, if possible, use words I'll understand. I mean, I'm able to follow instructions, etc., but not knowing all the terms can kind of stop me in my tracks.
Anyhow, thanks for anyone willing to help.
Cheers!

I completely screwed up. Need to restrore back to normal.

Hi, I just bought a Tablet Fire today and went ahead and rooted the device using KingRoot. Now everything went well until I accidentally deleted some files that I wasn't suppose to delete and now my Fire is kind of wrecked. For starters I have already factory restored it and everything but it's still far from normal. As far as functions go, I can unlock the screen and access the drop down menu (wifi, airplane mode, blue shade, etc. etc. AND SETTINGS) but there is no longer any apps of any sort, the home page is just black, I can't do anything other than bring down the drop down menu. I'm sorry if I'm not providing enough details, I'll try my best if you need more information. I would like to restore my device back and try to root it again only this time with more caution. Thank you for reading, I hope someone can shed some light on this matter.
