There are 2 bootloader/partition layouts present for the LG P990 (Optimus 2X).
1. Older Froyo/GB

1. All-In-One P990-Toolkit
To change to and from the 2 partition/bootloader. EASIEST OPTION.
2. NVFlash toolkit
For changing your partition to Stock ICS format. Or reverting back to GB/Froyo format with CMW preinstalled.
3. Full Brick Repair with CM10
For reverting back to old GB/Froyo partition and bootloader with CMW. It also comes with CM10.
4. NVFlash resize

I want clean Vanila 2.2 or 2.3 ROM.
Hi All
Please do forgive me if I come across as being stupid but I only got my LG 2X today and I want to flash a clean 2.2 or even better a 2.3 Vanila ROM.
But I'm very confused as to exactly what I need to do. I understand that I need to root first but dont even know where to root from.
Would someone be kind enough to maybe put together a step by step guide on how to root and then install a ROM please? Or maybe just provide links to each step in the correct order?
I'm sure other users would also find it useful.
I've been using the device for a few hours now and have updated to the latest V10D via LG's software update and have not yet experienced any random reboots etc except for only ONE reboot when I tried to install Swype but that was before the V10D update.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out here. Cheers.
Root:
I used this guide: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=LG_Optimus_2X:_Rooting
Recovery:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=LG_Optimus_2X:_Recovery_and_CyanogenMod
Flash:
With ClockworkMod Recovery you now can boot into recovery (power+vol down)
Here you wipe data and wipe partition and after that you click "flash ROM from SD-card" or something like that, find the ROM on your SD-card and hit it.
Wohoo!
Definitely the best and easiest way to root is this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765

Could someone please add a note to the first section (or anywhere else they feel it may help) to advise Canadian users? Here in Canada, Wind lists their LG as an Optimus 2X but it is actually a P999. A note pointing them to the P999/T-Mobile forums would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Is it possible to get a review system going for the roms and patches, so we may get a gauge of battery life, stability and those sorts of things for the different roms, etc?
Sort of like done here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668090
But maybe working off a user review system?....Trying to think of a way to make it fairly accurate, but not involve one poor person running one rom after another over and over to write a review.

I would like this as well. I am looking at flashing a rom with good battery life. There is no direct way of finding out how the battery peformance is in these roms. Everyone always talks about the overclock I just want stable with 2 days battery.
I have got good battery experience with Slick2X ROMs for both Froyo and Gingerbread. I got around 3 days or 1% per hour in sleep mode.
Gingerbread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061532
Problems: Slow GPS fix.
Froyo -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076454
Problems: Well, it is froyo, does not utilize dual-core fully.
Current I use Pauls rooted stock gingerbread ROM, which gives around 2 days between charges.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1328656
Problems: none found yet.
Can everyone please vote, for the ROM or kernel you're using, 1 to 5 in five categories. Stability, Speed, Battery Life, Appearance, Daily use. And i'll compile them and put it on the second post. thank you.
CyanogenMod 7 and AOSP FroYo with .32 kernel
No more updates coming. No more Development by PCFighter.
You can download 2.3.7 v6 and 2.2.2 AOSP from forum.android.pl because pcfighter doesn't want downloads to be posted on xda.
CyanogenMod 7.2 / Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread Features:
- new kernel: 2.6.32 for an ultrafast UI & no lags. It's much smoother and faster than most other ROMs with .29
- SmartAss v2 CPU governor makes the CPU scaling always high enough for no lags and still saves battery life.
- USB tether (which doesn't work on .29 kernel)
- accu temperature (does not even work on stock ROM)
- FM-Radio
- Screen Calibration (?)
- CPU overclock up to 864mHz (you shouldn't go over 825, it just causes bugs, kernel panics and wastes battery juice)
- CyanogenMod 7.2 with all features for a high customizability and great performance
- Screenshots attached
Versions:
CyanogenMod 7 v6: For key backlight copy lights.swift.so to /system/lib/hw from v5. give it chmod 644
or the older telease with key backlight and higher brightness:
CyanogenMod 7 v5
+ Service Pack 1
+ Service Pack 2
+ GApps (Market...)
+ boot.img with zice's fixes and changed colours (no Artifacts on wakeup, CIFS, SWAP)
(+ zice's kernel without changed colours)
Clear dalvik cache & cache after installing
AOSP 2.2.2 FroYo Features:
- new kernel: 2.6.32 for an ultrafast UI & no lags. It's much smoother and faster than most other ROMs with .29
- latest (v20e) kernel source with BFS, SIO, CPU governors for being even faster
- FroYo is faster than Gingerbread has a better battery life and is rock stable. It's for everyday usage and with many features compared to stock 2.1.
- manual network search
- Overclock (not very stable, anyway you won't need it)
- Screen Calibration
- Themes available: First Blood and Sense Theme
- Screenshots attached
Versions:
AOSP 2.2.2 v2.3 with 2.6.32 kernel (sometimes bugs)
AOSP 2.2.2 v1.9 with slower 2.6.29 kernel but working without any bugs
All credits go to PCFighter. Don't post downloadlinks for the ROM.
i would like to put it when some bugs are solved
I am making zip patch to boot a .29 kernel, so you will use rom with full options.
new kernel!!!!
Nice will wait until the .32 kernel fully works like a .29 one
Sent from my GT540 using xda premium
Nice to hear that somebody is working on new kernel.
Gosh!!
We're having .32 kernel. Mike's almost finished with .35. We have AOSP and CM7 Gingerbread, AOSP and CM6 Froyo, AOSP and Stock Eclair. We have so much!!! Thanks to all the devs for making this phone wonderful!
please fix wifi drivers. wifi turning on scanning and error. thanks
I know that, I will release new versions of .32 and .29 maybe today.
I really don't get it why people are asking for the .29 kernel Guys, you have muraiks rom wich is the best it can get on CM7 if you ask me :/ I'd let the developer focus on the .32 kernel MAINLY on this rom :/ as you see, there are few bugs and camera doesn't work which is normal but, it's just my opinion nice work will keep an eye on this one

Dear community,
I was lurking the forums for the past couple of weeks looking for a stable JB ROM to migrate away from GB. Unfortunately my time was more or less wasted because the JB ROMs are still in infancy, struggling with the most basic problems like connectivity, memory leaks. Not to speak about the battery time.
So now that it is clear an upgrade to JB is far away, I would like to ask you for your guidance: what ROM would you recommend someone who puts the priorities as follows:
- rock solid
- usage: emailing, scheduling, browsing, reading, music playing / streaming; no gaming at all, no social networking
- would like a very smooth / fluid UI operation (I currently use Launcher Pro)
- need a kernel that allows oveclocking / undervolting; using AbyssNote 4.2 currently. I have a rock solid voltage table for every frequency between 200 and 1600 MHz
- I don't care about thousands upon thousands of customization features, the simpler the better and more stable
Please help... I lurked enough, I just feel lost, the S/N ration is so incredibly bad
Thank you :fingers-crossed:
Why don't you simply upgrade to stock ICS and flash a safe kernel? With Hydracore, stock ICS is butter smooth but less battery backup. With speedmod, battery backup is comparable to GB.
Sent from GNote.
i guess the most stable ROM is the stock ICS 4.0.4
with hydracore 5.4 OC

Why don't you try Crash ROM v10.1? It's an improved stock rom, very very smooth and it allows to you to taste the TW of S3 give it a try mate!
P.s.: obv with HydraCore 5.4 OC! Don't forget to give a thanks to g.lewarne
sent from my custom N7k
Thanks for the suggestions, I tried as follows:
- CleaNote 6.00 which is more or less a stock ICS 4.0.4. I find it to be way too slow (much more slower than GB), even with everything not required disabled (frozen by Titanium). Kernel used: HydraCore 5.4
- Crash 10.1 (non plus) with the stock kernel it comes with: must be trimmed down, lots of stuff I don't need, feels much more fluid / responsive. Various small issues (can't read /data and /system/app, older CWR, a few forced closes), bloated Phone.apk and some other integrated features I don't like to carry around. I think it's a very good ROM that just got too loaded, but that's what the folks want nowadays, so heck, my problem. I have to try it with other kernels.
Still looking for my dream post GB ROM
May I suggest Rocket ROM version 11? Truth be told, my Note has only seen 2 ROMs - it came with JellyCore v2 which had multiple issues, so I researched heavily and ended up flashing Rocket ROM v 11 which comes by default with HydraCore 4.3. It is (allegedly) very similar to the stock ROM and with some really useful additions (e.g. call recording) baked in. I'm a rather picky and a heavy user and this ROM has not made me think: "gah, I have to try something else, because...". It just works.
Yo,
i installed gingercruzt on top alfs v8a cm7 kernel and everything is working perfectly exept 3d gallery and games that lags.
I dont know is it becuse rom and karnel have same modules or what.
Can someone help me?
Its not just gallery mate, its all 3d sistem i think. There is no faster roms then this one, i tryed everything, even ginged zaraki. This rom with alfs v08a cmf simply fly + its 3 times better looking then every other roms out there .
I am asking becuse its working well with naa 08 but with newer naa and alfs karnel that ****y 3d bug is there.
Maybe with some newer versions of kernels they put some new files in and they are maybe present in the rom it self. That is why i am asking, if someone maybe knows whitch files il delete them.
Cheers
3D gallery is laggy on all roms. Use quickpic!
Sent from my E15i using xda premium
I know 3d gallery is lagging on every rom, but its not just gallery. Games are also laging for some uknown reason. rom is super fast but i cant play simple games like fruit ninja. Its something betwean rom and kernel, if i fix that il have bug free, beautiful rom with everything i need .
Well never mind, with naa 09 working perfectly and with naa 10 have lagging 3d problems.
nAa-10
msm/kgsl: Porting kgsl 1.1 from 2.6.35 gives a good performance boost for 2d/3d operations
acpuclock: Improved overclocking from 2.6.35
shakira: keyboard reset with HOME + POWER
pmem: Porting pmem from 2.6.35

Module for disabling dual touch altogether
Performance governor selected in recovery
NOOP ioscheduler (faster for android)
+ 2MB More RAM (184MB in total)
It probably has something to do with "Porting kgsl 1.1 from 2.6.35 gives a good performance boost for 2d/3d operations" in a kernel. Rom is simply amazing on naa 09, no lags at all, scrolling is better then on any other rom and its simply beautiful. Il post ss later today in themes section.
