[Q][I9001] Where is the appdata being stored? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
Im running CM9 beta 4 and i want to know where the app data of apps is stored.
So if i need to, i can restore them from a Nandroid backup cause my Titanium backups are not always as up to date as they can be but my nandroids are.
Thanks

It depends on the app, but most of app data is being stored in: sdcard/Android/data or (mostly games): sdcard/Android/obb.

Hmm...
I see the files but if I restore the apps from nandroid they are reset and don't use the data?
Phone: GT-I9001 Samsung Galaxy S Plus
Rom: CM9 RC 2 by arco86
Kernel: CastagnaIT 7.4 OC/UV
Did i help you? hitting the thanks button would be appreciated.

I'm not sure, if I fully understand what you mean by "Don't use the data"? I have no experience with nandroid backups, but my Titanium backups are restored without reseting any apps, it remebered of all my settings and updates. Make sure, you're doing a full backup.

App data are all stored in the /data partition
If you want to restore the data you can use nandroid Browser from play store but i think its better when you do an advanced restore in recovery and only restore the /data partition

Using CWM make backup and restore / backup, when you restore backup and restore / Advanced Restore / restore data.
But with programs like Titanium can you do?

I want to know if titanium make backup and restore for this things
yes titanium backup also backs up app data.

(Q) full backup solution

Recently discovered that both CWM and Titanium together do not backup EFS partition and probably a lot of other stuff.
Does anyone know of anything else what should be backed up next to efs partition that is not backed up by CWM and Titanium?
And of course know a way of how to back up/Restore it?
Anyone know of a solution that does back everything up? And not just portions such as Titanium and CWM?

1. use EFS Pro
2. use Titanium for your apps and their data
3. use CWMR for everything else (except the modem, it won't backup/restore it)
and you're covered. No universal all-in-one solution for now.
Cool thanks. Are the following frequencies of backup correct?
Efs pro backup once, or with every major (e.g. Gb to Ics) Os update
Cwm backup once per os update
Titanium, frequently backup

EFS once, CWMR once per update, Titanium according to your needs.
Guys!
Use TWRP, and tell it to backup everything. That'll do /data and /cache (personal stuff and cache) /system, /efs and somewhere else too. Only problem is that to back up data each time, you have to turn off, get in recovery, backup, reboot normally.

[Q] Preferred backup method

If I just want to have a back-up of my apps and settings (wi-fi, etc.), when I am changing ROMs and do a complete wipe, is there any advantage of using an app like Titanium compared to using the back-up/restore that is part of CWM? I assume when I restore (if I am changing ROMs), I only want to restore apps & data.. Is the back-up/restore in CWM what I see referred to as a Nandroid backup?

For the purposes you want, use TB. Then only the installed apps and settings get restored. If you use CWM backup (nandroid) and do a partial restore of only /data, you defeat the purpose of doing the wipe in the first place. It restores the system settings too, which is why you did the wipe to begin with, to get rid of those. But WiFi settings are system settings and if you want to keep those, don't wipe in the first place. But sometimes you have to to make the new ROM work right.

Messing around with ROMs.

I would like to try some ROMs but my prolem is that if I dont like it I want to come back, BUT i don't want to create everything again with Link2SD.
So I can creat a nandroid backup -> instal new rom and IF I dont like it, -> restore nandroid backup or install previous rom and then do the nandoird restore?
Link2sd restores work fine provided you remove 05mountsd script from init.d prior to backup. The script creates a conflict with Link2sd after restoring a nandroid for some reason. At least this is the case on CM7.

Nandroid backups store all data and symlinks of link2sd.
If you restore a nandroid backup you'll have the rom as you left it, including all apps on the partition, their data and link2sd links, so no need to link everything again.

No. Nandroid backups alao store system and kernel, you'd be back to stocklite 7.
You can try this:
-nandroid backup your stocklite 7
-wipes, flash stocklite 8
-if it didn't change drastically, you can restore only the data of your previous backup (advanced restore > restore data).
-if it gives you bootloops... bad luck, you'll have to use titanium backup and relink apps afterwards.
I have gotten this to work for lots of nightly upgrades of cm7 roms, and sometimes even when changing cm7 roms if they're not too different. Nothing lost by trying as long as you got your backup.

You have the option in twrp to name the backup whatever you want or it names them automatically with a date stamp. Titanium backs up apps and app data as well as call logs, SMS etc. Nandroid will backup your whole system image. Media is stored on internal storage and as long as you don't wipe, it will not get erased.
