This has been known for awhile. They affect the behavior of the signal. GSM autoprl is best because it'll goto 2g networks when 3G isn't available and LTE lets you use AWS LTE if your carrier has any. And CDMA won't work for us and I feel LTE/GSM Auto will first look for LTE but then degrade to 3G then 2G.
Sure, I think so... maybe like 6 weeks ago or something
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2007943
the N4 has an active LTE chip that can be accessed though a menu ( that you obviously found. ) - It does only work on Canadian LTE bands ( rogers afaik ) and on some lucky markets of AT&T's LTE
It's the 1800 range i believe.
Stock setting is WCDMA

Unless you have a special Nexus with a built-in phone option, no. The Nexus isn't a phone.
It does wifi. And I use my phone as a wifi hotspot when I want to connect away form my home network.
Lol

I guess you didn't know that there is a GSM Nexus 7.... It uses the back hauled HSPA+ and will go to 2g/edge in poor signal areas.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
In fact, on the GSM variant, there is an options for "only use 2g" the save battery.

Just wanted to confirm; there are actually 3G and an LTE version of the Nexus 7 out there. As to what dropofdreams2 said, there is an option on the 3G model to only use a 2G connection. The tablet will also switch over automatically when there is no 3G service available, or of the signal is too weak.
There is no LTE Nexus 7. It uses back hauled 3g known as HSPA+.

Nope. Each device behaves differently and every person uses theirs differently. The answer is that you will have to find out by doing it yourself.

hi everyone,
Does this international device support the new Tmobile (USA) 4G speeds (as of April 2013) ?
if yes, whats the average download and upload speeds in supported Tmobile 4G Cities ?
thanks
It does. Been for a while. And speeds are very good. Sorry I'm to lazy to do a speed test but it's very fast. At least I believe so here in Miami.
it does
I am using this wonderful device with T-mobile, and i get good speeds, like 8mbps download and 1 upload.
Isn't t mobile us 4g just hspa+ ?

So they tout 3g as 4g. In my opinion that's misleading. Although you can get decent speeds on HSPA+. I get 8mbps down and 5 up on 3 in UK. Works out quicker than my mates LTE iPhone in London. Quick is one thing. Selling it as tech it ain't is another!

It's always been that way. Unless you're on lte before you shouldn't have been able to do both at the same time.

I did notice they removed the feature. The evo lte could do phone calls and 3g simultaneously, it's a shame they got rid of it

This is impossible for cdma 3g, which Sprint uses. It's not a removed feature. There was a work around - the phone had 2 antennas for 3g so this could work.

The EVO 4G LTE could do it on cdma 3g because it had separate antenna paths for 1x (i.e. voice) and 3g data. The HTC One doesn't and can only do voice and on 4g or WiFi.

That is one of the things I liked about the HTC LTE because I could have the GPS up pulling data while on the Bluetooth headset in my truck at the same time.
LTE and voice work fine still. 3g, will never on this phone
Was it turned on for our phones.
I have read it has been enabled in some of the Droids?
Sense we are Verizon's red headed Motorola stepchild are they leaving us out in the cold?
Is this just a radios update? Can Droid radios be flashed?
Steve
On the S4 band 4 or aws was enabled by new modem/radio when we got 4.3.
I'm wondering about this too. I have a s4 but ordered a dev edition x. From what I've read it's capable of using aws but hasn't been enabled, which is idiotic. If the x does not have working aws I'll likely sell it. I'm not going back to 5 mbps when I can get 90 mbps with my s4.

So you ordered a phone that did not have AWS compatible as a spec, and will be upset if it doesn't have it. LOL Ok then
