Android Boot Animation Changer
I have just made the changing of boot animations easier for everyone!
With this small AROMA script, you won't have to copy and paste or
replace or push things anymore; no more root explorers and computers!
Instructions:
Put the bootanimation.zip of your choice into the root of the downloaded zip
(you will have to replace the one already inside) and flash it in your recovery! Its that easy!
Inside the AROMA Installer, make sure you choose the two options correctly (Phone with or without HTC Sense)
because it not only changes the theme but also determines where the boot animations is.
Sharing policy:
You are allowed to share this ZIP and/or any part of it as long as money is not involved (e.g. selling).
If you are a boot animation maker, you are allowed to put your boot animation in this ZIP and
share it, but you will have to mention me or my brother's name (KaiJun or kaienchua971, relatively)
and/or post a link to this very page.

Upcoming updates: Changing of boot animation sound!

I've been using Andromeda since it was first released, but I didn't like the Armani branding in the boot and shutdown animations, so I decided to install ones of my choice. My favorite is the Android Scribble animation, the original one with green and gray color. I also used the one with orange color when I ran the themed version of andromeda 2.x for a while. Here they are in one place for easy download.
Boot Animation:
Most custom kernels support custom boot animations using a bootanimation.zip file. This is *NOT* a clockwork mod recovery flashable file, but should be renamed to bootanimation.zip and copied into /data/local/bootanimation.zip (recommended) or /system/media/bootanimation.zip. These boot animations are suitable for most custom roms, as long as the kernel supports it.

Shutdown Animation:
The shutdown animation works differently. The png image files must be copied to the /system/media/video/shutdown/ directory. The following files *ARE* flashable from clockwork mod recovery. The current contents of the directory will be overwritten with the new contents. It will not be backed up and will be lost. If you wish to preserve the existing shutdown animation, you should use root explorer or another root file manager to transfer all the current contents of the /system/media/video/shutdown/ directory to a backup location.

I have a question or 2. If I place the bootanimation.zip in the folder you stated, will the kernel go there first or will I also have to delete the original Andromeda bootsamsumg.qmg & bootsamsumgloop.qmg files so there are no problems or boot lock-up? Also you recommended putting zip file in data/local folder. When I go there I have a data folder that is empty. I believe I will have to create the local folder then copy boot.zip into. Is this correct. I'm running Andromeda v3 with Ursa Minor 2 kernel. Thanks

Just place bootanimation.zip in one of the two directories, and then reboot. Nothing else is required. Btw, /data/local/ should be there on andromeda3, I think. I had SpeedMod kernel installed on Andromeda for a while before the new Ursa Minor kernel came out, and it may have created that directory when I installed it. If it's there, it should be an empty directory except for a sub-folder called tmp. If not, you can create it with permissions rwxrwx--x, or just use the /system/media/ directory.
The shutdown animation is a clockwork mod flashable zip file. Copy the file to your sd card, use the power menu, or any method you prefer, to boot into recovery. Ursa Minor kernel (and most custom kernels) contains ClockworkMod Recivery v2.5.1.3. Select "install zip from sdcard" then "choose zip from sdcard" then find the "cwm-scribbleshutdown.zip" file (it's easier to find if you put it in the root of the sdcard), confirm selection and go. It will automatically install the image files into the correct directory. When it's done, go back, go back, and reboot.
Hey guys,
I've enjoyed ARHD and XDA for so long - i thought i would give something back to the community.
This took me a few hours last night to work on - i've tested it on my own and it works great.
Test it out and tell me if you like it or not
Here is a .gif preview:
It may be different timing than the actual load (faster or slower depending on internet connection)
Also - the quality is blurry on this... it is less blurry (for me) on the actual phone:

Enjoy!
Feedback welcome!
GUIDE TO CHANGE BOOT ANIMATION:

My bootanimation was found in data/drm and I copied & pasted a bootanimation in there to replace the old one but nothing happened, do I need to remove the old boot from there completely. I renamed it (the old one that is) but still no change in my boot.

If you want me to make any changes in this bootanimation them pm me, I would love to hear out some new ideas and suggestions.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Download the zip file
2. Rename it to bootanimation.zip
3. Open any file browser and put the file in /system/media (Root required for it)
(Do make a backup of your default bootanimation)
4. Set permissions to rw-r-r
5. DONE!!!!
This one is probably the best boot animation I have ever used. A combination of Marvel and DC comics characters, it is a must have for any Marvel or DC fan. It has almost all the popular superheroes like Batman, Superman, Flash, Captain America, Ironman, Hulk, Wolverine and many more. Just try it once and you will never want to switch to any other boot animation ever!
Instruction to use:
You don't really need to flash the zip file. Just download the zip file and copy it to your device. Now go to /system/media and rename current bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.zip1 for future reference and now paste the copied boot animation zip file. Now just restart the device and enjoy all the superheroes on your device.
Known Issue:
This bootanimation will NOT work on newer Samsung devices with stock ROMs or TouchWiz-based custom ROMs. Samsung uses a proprietary QMG format for it's bootanimations, and doesn't support the bootanimation.zip which we're using. There's not much we can do about this, only recommend you use a custom, AOSP based ROM like CyanogenMod or others.
Troubleshooting:
If the bootanimation is still not working for you and you're sure you did everything the instructions say, I am really sorry about that, please let me know and I will try my best to help.
For me to be able to help you, it would be great if you included this information in your post:
your device manufacturer and model
which ROM do you use
which version have you tried to install
if you installed via recovery or manually
what exactly is happening when you say "it's not working"
if you have tried some other custom bootanimation and if it was working for you or not (and if it worked, perhaps include the link to it as well)
pictures or videos are useful as well, if you experience some strange behaviour not easily explained by words
If you like the boot animation, don't forget to hit "Thanks".
Note: If you want to see who are all the superheroes there, just download the zip and unzip it to see all the images.

worked for me. its looking super cool
Hi guys! I despise Verizon with a passion, and I have been on a mission to remove all things Verizon ever since I got an unskippable ad to install a bunch of Facebook games direct from Verizon. I got an undismissable notification prompting me to "review" the apps I have. It freaked me out and pissed me off.
I have since Frankenstein-ed and Rooted with the WTF method using the incredible guides made by @ChazzMatt. I am now running stock debloated @JohnFawkes VS996 Pie for working VoLTE/VoWiFi. I uninstalled every Verizon app (aside from carrier), and my last step was to replace the boot animation.
Now that you know the specifics of my device, I want to detail the process for replacing the boot animation on the VS996 V30.
THIS CAN CAUSE YOUR BOOT TO FAIL. PROCEED WITH CAUTION.
Requirements:
1) V30 running VS996 firmware (this method may work with VS998 or Carrier variants)
2) TWRP and Root
3) CURRENT SYSTEM PARTITION BACKUP
3) File Manager capable of root access and permission editing. I used Total Commander.
Process:
1) Obtain a boot animation!
You WILL need a boot animation in a specific format.
Link to a post with a huge collection of working boot animations: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/bootanimations-collection.3721978/#post-74901989 Credit to @mauam for this great work!!
I nearly bricked my phone by attempting to use a .gif converted into a .zip, as was suggested on another post. If your boot animation is not in the correct format, the phone will hang on the LG V30 screen.
Now that you have an animation you like, save it. Use the google drive link in the post.
2) Create system backup in TWRP
This is a critical step for recovering if you mess up. Do this every time you try something out of your comfort zone. I had to restore from a backup after deleting one too many System LG apps last night. This is what saved me from a brick before writing this guide.
3) Replace stock animation
We can now navigate to the location of the boot image. In your file manager, navigate to root/system/product/media.
Spoiler: More Details
This is where most boot animation replacer apps fall short! There are two locations where boot animations may be stored on the V30: system/media, and system/product/media. I believe that the LG animations are stored in system/media. Carrier boot animations are stored in system/product/media, at least on VS996/Verizon. If you want to check, try browsing through the existing bootanimation.zip file and opening one of the images. It should be a still from the carrier boot animation. If it is not, try the system/media folder. If you still can't find the carrier boot animation, I don't have enough experience to guide you further.
Having found the location of the boot animation, move your downloaded .zip into this folder. I made an additional copy as a replacement for the LG shutdown animation.
Rename the old boot animations, and simply add .bak on the end of the existing name. This preserves the animation if you mess up or want to revert.
Now, rename your new downloaded animations to the same as the old animations without .bak at the end.
Check that you have been successful by: press and hold > properties > permissions. They should match the old permissions, as well as the permissions detailed in @mauam post. (rw-r--r--)
4) Reboot
That's it! Goodbye Verizon.
If you get hung up on LG V30 screen, or phone will not boot:
Hold down the volume down and power buttons to force the phone to shut down. Ensure that the phone is off! Do the hardware button sequence to force the phone into recovery: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/hardware-button-boot-into-recovery-with-twrp.2534981/
This method worked for me! From here, restore the backup that you made BEFORE starting this guide!
