[Q] - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody,
I got a big problem. First of all, i'm not english, but it dont matter.
Next, i've recently ( october ) Root and Flash my phone, and installed the SGSIII Rom. My roommate have take my phone and have put the wrong code 55 times(genius) and now i can't turn on my phone ! It's locked on the " S III " screen .. So i need your help. I'm a noob, like says the video
And I don't nknow what to do. I think i should use a " recovery " but i'm not sure of the meaning of " recovery " so I'm stucked..
Really need your help guys
EDIT : I forget one thing, i just want to back up my phone to the normal version .. No root, no flash, i got blackmart alpha so whyr oot ? x)
Exen

Switch off ur phone. Now, press HOME+POWER buttons together. The screen you will see after that is known as "Recovery".
However, if you want your phone normal as before (no root) then, firstly, you need STOCK FIRMWARE of YOUR COUNTRY. Also, be careful... if your phone has 'i' or some alphabet after model name (such as: Galaxy Ace 5830i) then you need 5830i firmware.
REMEMBER:- 5830i is not same as 5830(without 'i').

Thank you for your answer.
I've found a stockfirmware of Europe ( i'm french so i hope it's ok ) for android 2.3.3 ( my version of android ) called S5830XWKPO.
What should I do ?

If you remember your (previous) stock firmware version & you are sure that now you have the correct firmware for your specific device model, then search on GOOGLE for firmware flashing methods for your model. You may also find plently of them here on XDA too. You can also find as many video tutorials on youtube.
Firmwares are generally of two types:- full package(contains 4 files) & one package(contains two files). You can extract the downloaded firmware file to ensure whether it is "full" or "one package". You need Odin.exe to flash firmware & an "ops" file.
... & PC (ofcourse...)
& By the way... what was that "wrong code" you are referring to??

I've find the correct version firmware for my phone, that is ok. But, i put it on my SD Card and my phone can't detect it .. When i turn it up with HOME + POWER buttons, i go on " install .zip from SD card " and i can't see the file .. I'm a bit stucked.
Ok, to make that my phone back to factory leaving ( excuse for bad english xD ) i must Re-flash it ? Like a normal flash, but with this firmware ? And after, must I unroot it ?
EDIT : Ok, i've put the .zip file on my SD card, and i select : " install zip from sdcard " , after " choose zip from sdcard " and at least i select th S5830XWKPO file and i push home. it launch the installation and says :
-- Installing: /sdcard/S5830XWKPO.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update
Installation aborted
And i dont now why it aborts.. Maybe because it's the wrong file ? I really need help i'm a bit lost in all of those firmwares, continents and all of that x')
Thanks for help dude

Read the tutorials, to flash a firmware you need a pc and odin.
Recovery is for installing custom roms.

No No Bro!!... You can't flash it from your phone. Transfer that S5830...zip file to computer & extract it. Then open Odin.exe & place appropriate files in the concerned fields.
For one package f/w installation, tick the option "one package" in odin screen, then place that single ".tar.md5" file under One Package field.
However, if you got full package, you need to place those files in appropriate fields.
(Just search about flashing processes on google.com to know how exactly it's done.)
[]*Remember:- To flash stock firmwares you need to have pc & phone drivers & only custom roms can be flashed through CWM recovery(via phone)*[]
Hope this helps...!!!

im a bit confused myself. i updated my phone to froyo via odin the other day and since then ive had force close loops and been unable to use any apps. when i boot into recovery mode and apply sdcard:update.zip as i was advised i get this message:
E:failed to open /mnt/internal_sd/update.zip (no such file or directory)
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
i assumed this was a file that was already supposed to be on my phone. i also assumed this was the reason im having the force closes as i am unable to format my sd card or delete anything from it.
Normal method is download to PC Connect phone in USB mass storage mode and transfer file to Phone sd card as update . Might need to rename the file if not update .
Power phone on via Recovery mode and navigate clockwork recovery to update.zip .

Then goto recovery mode and install from sdcard-> choosed zip from sdcard-> then card to the zip file location /sdcard/download, then select the file and instal.
you can move to folders using ur volume up and down key.
You can find ROM's in [URL="http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=665"/URL]
Enjoy..
When your in recovery what does it say ??? does it say 'clockwork recovery' or summit like 'android recovery system <3e>
First step would be to read the FAQs as you are trying to start at the middle instead of the beginning .
What exactly are you trying to achieve .

Signature error is caused by trying to install an unsigner update.zip on recovery 3e. if you want help you should:
FIRST: read FAQS and Walktrough. When you read and understand them, you may proceed to doing what you want.
SECOND: Take time to WRITE every informations needed, like your GOALS and what has been done as of yet.
Asking for "update.zip" is like going to the garage and asking for an oil filter without telling the make, brand and year of your car. You might end up with an oil filter for a compressor instead of what you need.
THIRD: Don't do anything until you trully understand what you are doing. Or you might end up bricking your device (and blaming samsung for it?!)

stock to Darky - please help

I am very new and not very well inform at all and I am hoping I can learn from you guys.
I have : I9000 which is very very slow at the moment - no sim lock and no network lock. Originally from Optus
Here is the details:

build info sun jul 10 11.30.54 KST 2011
I want to install Darky (DarkyROM v10.2) - Will this work?
It will be much appreciated if someone can point me to the right direction because all the guide that I came a cross are saying if I am coming from ECLAIR and Froyo. and none is stating from the spec I have got.
any suggestions is much appreciated
Quick Step by Step guide:
1- You have to look if you have enabled the 3-combo button and also I think it's good to do a EFS backup and save it in your computer.
2- Download Darky 10.2 Resurrection Edition and follow the guide to install it through Odin ( enter download mode, conect USB, check repartition, select pit file, PDA... Etc)
That has to work.
Ok, here you go:
1. Download stock JVQ firmware (http://hotfile.com/dl/122481899/943a689/I9000XXJVQ.rar.html) and unrar it.
2. Download some kernel that supports CWM. Like speedmod (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044519) Follow the link and bottom of the first post, there is links, choose one of those.
3. Download Odin 1.3 (http://www.mediafire.com/?zgbta2co4uyct2z) There is also 1.8 but 1.3 works well too.
4. Download Darky's v10.2 (http://www.multiupload.com/NFEDVYNHZX)
5. Open Odin, its .exe inside the .zip you downloaded.
6. Check you have only auto reboot and f.reset are ticked.
7. go to PDA-section: choose PDA file from the JVQ pack you downloaded. Its named CODE there. Then click the MODEM button and choose modem from JVQ pack you downloaded. Its named MODEM there. Then click CSC and choose CSC file from JVQ pack.
8. Put your phone into download mode: shut it down. Then click volume down, physical meny button and power button at the same time. It should show yellow and black screen with Android mascot digging hole.
9. Plug your phone in to PC. In Odin, you should see one of the little boxes turns into yellow. (if not make sure you have latest drivers installed, download KIES if you want them quite easily)
10. When the box is yello, click "start" button in Odin.
11. When it says "PASS" green box should appear and the phone restarts itself. Unplug your phone and wait till it reboots.
12. When it has rebooted shut it down again and put it into download mode again. Do NOT plug it in yet to PC.
13. Press "Reset" on Odin. Then click the PDA button and select speedmodkernel that you downloaded. You don't unrar it. Check that only f.reset and autoreboot are ticked. Then click "Start". It takes few seconds and "PASS" text appears with green box.
14. Wait till you phone reboots. Put Darky's ROM into you internal SD card's root. DON'T unrar it! Just copy it straight to you intSD card.
15. Shut down your phone. put it to recovery mode by pressing Volume up, physical menu button and power button until Samsung galaxy S thing pops up. Release keys and wait.
16. Now you have CWM in front of your nose. use volume down and volume up buttons to navigate in CWM. Go to "select zip from sd card". Click it with power button. Then choose Darky....zip there and click Yes when next menu appears. Texts starts to scroll and when its ready, click "reboot system now". It might do it by its own. i don't remember..
17. It takes some time till phone is ready and reboots.
18. Enjoy
ATTENTION! MAKE SURE YOU PACK UP EVERYTHING YOU NEED. DO ALSO NANDROID BACKUP IN CWM BY CLICKING "backup/restore" and there click "back up ALL" DO that BEFORE you install Darky things!
Thank you for the quick replies - much appreciated - I still have few things to confirm with you guys.
1. Download stock JVQ firmware (http://hotfile.com/dl/122481899/943a689/I9000XXJVQ.rar.html) and unrar it.
### Does this one has to be the JVQ? when I look at Samfirmware the JVQ is for Europe. I am in Australia - will this be a problem?
2. Download some kernel that supports CWM. Like speedmod (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044519) Follow the link and bottom of the first post, there is links, choose one of those.
### I have looked at the bottom link and there are 3 options to download. which one should I download? is it this ??: File Type: tar speedmod-kernel-k15i-t10.tar - [Click for QR Code] (7.21 MB, 3436 views)
### How do I install the Kernel?
I am very sorry if this is such very basic questions but I have tried to read it but I just can not get my head around it.
any help is much appreciated.
Regards
1 It isn't a problem
2 Yes is that. You can flash it via sgs kernel flasher (download it from the market) or via odin. You must put it in pda and flash without pit and repartition

Hi Guys, I got to this stage :
### I can not find the the ZIP file of Darky - all I see was the folders which was previously in my SD card.
I already put the ZIP darky into the root of my SD but still can not see it.
When I check the the version:
Build number is Gingerbread XWJVN - Is this correct?
Kernel is 2.6.35.7 [email protected]
firmware version 2.3.3
Please help
Thanks guys
You must go in the folder of the zip file of darky rom. If it is in the ext sdcard choose sd-ext.
Strange you must be on xxjvq. Flash it again via odin

That download problem is strange... Try later again. I can't help with that..
p.s. Don't worry your questions, its good you ask
sorry, i was late
so you have copied darky to your intSD card? can you see it if you plug your phone to PC.
You should be able to choose it from CWM.. how about is there something like "install zip from sd card" ?

Yes, there is "Install zip fro SD card but when I execute it, it came up with unable to read of somekind....
Now I have download the Darky rom tool form the market. with this tool I can see the darky.zip file I put in my Sd card. but when I try to flash it it came up with :
runtime error:
location (389,0) file//android_asset/Resources/functions.js
Message:
wrapped java.io.IOException: error running exec() command [Su] working directory: null Environment:null(file//android_asset/Resources/functions.js#389
and the flash does not happen. just stop.
Hmmm.... I wonder if I need to clear cache and factory reset it?
Do I need to install super user (busybox*su)?
Hmm.. it might be good idea. Do a factory reset and clear cache and davlik cache. Do it from CWM.
Then put Darky again to your intSD card and try again

Unable to flash ROM Galaxy Ace S5830

Problem solved long ago
Delete thread
Wrong thread to post in.
Anyways,
When you use "update from SD card" option the code is installed from "update.zip" in sdcard - so if there is some garbage code in update.zip it will corrupt the installed ROM on the device (or even the kernel - as might have happened in your case) and errors like bootloop and errors in recovery show up.
That being the background ... you should ask around in the galaxy ace section for specific instructions to use odin to restore your friends phone
Here's a little guide on how to flash a ROM via ODIN by me:
Requirements:
- A Windows computer
- A Galaxy Ace plugged into the computer via USB
- You must have ODIN installed , duh !
- (Windows Vista/7 compulsory) Running ODIN with Administrative rights:
- Ended KIES via Task manager:
Instructions:
1 - Download your favourite firmware here
2 - Extract the .rar out using WinRAR or 7zip (password is samfirmware.com)
3 - Check if it's a FULL package or ONE package:
FULL Package instructions:
1 - Open up ODIN (MAKE SURE ALL REQUIREMENTS ARE MET)
2 - Set your phone in Download Mode (Home + Power + Volume Down)
3 - Once you have correctly entered Download Mode and plugged in , this should appear in ODIN:
4 - Place the files in this order:
OPS - Select the file named Cooper_v1.0.ops (or anything like that)
BOOT - Select the file named "APBOOT_S5830xxxxx_CL514579_REV03_user_low_true.ta r.md5"
where "xxxxx" = Your firmware version
Phone - Select the file named "CODE_S5830xxxxx_CL514579_REV03_user_low_true.tar. md5"
where xxxxx = firmware version
PDA - DO NOT PLACE ANYTHING
CSC - Select the file named "GT-S5830-MULTI-CSC-xxxxxx.tar.md5"
where "xxxxxx" = the CSC region
EFS - Select the file named "MODEM_S5830xxxxx_CL514579_REV03.tar.md5"
xxxxx = firmware version (Be VERYVERY careful with this EFS part)
After you're done , click on "Start" and let the magic reveal itself slowly......
ONE Package method:
1 - Open up ODIN
2 - Set your phone in Download Mode while plugged into USB
3 - Tick the option "One Package" in ODIN (Refer to previous ODIN picture)
4 - Select the only .tar.md5 file
Now press start and watch the magic.....
Click to collapse

Good luck.

GT-S6500D bricked (with ROM manager)

so, i'll start with the begining...
i successfully rooted my phone using this tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqXzpqcMOtQ (check desription, instructions in romanian, but there is the link to xda forum). I guess i used the 3rd method of this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1719699
my phone worked just fine, i wasn't able to overclock, just to keep the processor at max clock.
so i searched more informations about overclocking and i figured out that i need a custom kernel. i installed "ROM Manager" from "Google play" and flashed with odin "clockworkmod-jena.5.2.0.8.tar.md5" from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768622 .
after that i copyed in my phone the "Universal OverClocked kernel upto 1.1Ghz (For Stock Rom)" from the same link above...
so, in the next step (bricking one) i've opened "ROM manager" and decided to do a data recovery.it requested for root access and i answered yes, with the check to always let this app to have root access. after that i selected "my phone is not listed(or some like that)" and installed the 2.xyz version. then my phone booted with the yellow triangle and after that "CWM-based Recovery v5.0.2.8" screen asked me what i want to do. i chosed "backup and restore" >> "backup" and an error message apeares. after that the phone keep booting in "CWM-based recovery"....
my short story(and question) is: how can i get over boot in recovery mode after using ROM manager to get in?
LATER EDIT:
whiting right now i chosed "backup to sd card" the process started but after some minutes ended with error. i chosed reboot now and some white little code show on my screeen, with a flickerring white band on right.
althought is hard to read that, this is what i understood:
###########################
# #
# ROMDUMP Mode #
# (ARM9 mode) #
- AP -
Oups
recovery PID-89
- CP -
vmem Ovil tmp_e LINE_0
Format 1
qxdm message 1
##########################
how i get rid of that? i get it everytime i choice to reboot phone now...should i reinstall another ROM? im afraid i might do more bad than good, so i'm asking you guys what should i do...
flash whit odin stock rom and begin hole fun from begin
not working, i get this on odin: imageshack.us/a/img542/2788/21136667.png
and this is what i get on boot: imageshack.us/a/img32/6774/bootr.jpg
and when i choice reboot i get: imageshack.us/a/img600/6725/rebootr.jpg
on the last screen when i press vol.down key i get some underlines like that: imageshack.us/a/img824/673/reboot2.jpg
also my PID changed in 89 and 90....
try to flash via odin only squadzone's recovery
please check my photos, i cant go to download mode, i get the last 2 screens (check photos)
my odin cant make setup conection....
i will try to contact clockworkmod for this problem too...
and tnx you guys for trying to help me any other sugestion is welcomed
i think this may work... forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514088
Don't try anything from that ASUS thread , it will screw it up even worse .
Out of the three (actually there are 4 but one , which is the best , isn't listed there) methods to root your phone , you chose the worst . From what I can see from your Odin screenshot , you flashed Galaxy Y firmware on a S6500D (Odin version seems to be the same but I have a bad feeling about that tar you flashed first) .
But the main thing that I think bricked your device was ROM Manager . A thing that no one seems to have pointed out around here , is that ROM MANAGER DOES NOT WORK WITH S6500/D AND WILL MOST LIKELY BRICK IT . . Some people had similar experiences after using it .
Right now try not to do anything stupid with it . I will try to provide you a stock backup to restore on your phone today .
// Here it is : Stock_S6500D_Backup.zip (bassed on S6500DXXLC4_S6500DXXLC3_S6500DORLLC2_HOME) .
Extract it and put the "Stock Backup" folder inside SD Card/clockworkmod/backup/ , on any SD Card you want . Then insert the SD card in your phone , boot into recovery , choose "Backup & Restore" -> "Restore" -> "Stock Backup" and it will start restoring .
If there's any error during the restore , tell me . Also , if everything went fine , tell me as well . I'll tell you how to properly root and overclock your phone as well .
thank you for your time i will try to find a sd-card somewhere... and i will let you know about my progress
cute THANKS button :laugh::good:
is restore working?
your in deep mess man
i guess that rom manager(cwm recovery) can't find my sd card, it tells me when i go to restore from sd:
Couldn't open directory.
No files found
Click to collapse
could i try something from "mounts and restore"?
Later edit: i managed to force the phone go in gownload mode(unplug your battery, plug the usb, press vol.down+home+power, while pressing those insert your battery )
odin still detect it as mini, although is mini2 (i used mini ROM to root it)
PHONE UNBRICKED!!! you guys can move it back to mini2 development forum, because this thread has developed a way to unbrick sgm2
I've also, dead bricked, it's because I try to use 'swapper2'. As a result had to re-flash with JTAG.

I have bricked my s6500d and now when boot it open only in CWM v5.0.2.8 ! What should i do ? need some help .

Create debrick.img from stock rom?

Is there any way to create a debrick.img from a downloadable stock rom? (Sammobile). I know you can create a debrick.img from a working phone, but I want to know if it's possible to do it from the rom itself (with hopefully Windows).
I *think* I may have figured this out. My phone might need a USB Jig and maybe that's why it's still not working for me, but if someone else with a bricked phone wants to test this, please let me know your results. Here is how you can create a debrick.img from the stock ROM.
1) Download and install 7-Zip: https://sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzip/
2) Download and install OSFMount: http://www.osforensics.com/tools/mount-disk-images.html
3) Download your stock ROM (if you haven't already). For example, here is mine for the SGH-I257M (I257MVLUAMK5): http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-I257M/FMC/
4) Download a debrick.img (I suppose any kind will do; like one of these: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B612qYHFMILfWUlMTTEwdUstcXM&usp=sharing)
5) Unzip contents of stock ROM download
6) You will see a .tar.md5 file (mine is I257MVLUAMK5_I257MOYAAMK5_I257MVLUAMK5_HOME.tar.md5)
7) Right click on this file and go to 7-Zip > Open Archive (you might get an error like I did; ignore it)
8) In my file, I saw something called NON-HLOS.bin. I dragged it out of Z-Zip onto my desktop to extract it.
9) Right click on NON-HLOS.bin and go to 7-Zip > Open Archive.
10) You will see a folder called "image." I dragged and dropped this onto my desktop as well.
11) Open OSFMount and click on "Mount new..." and choose the "..." button to choose your debrick.img file.
12) In my debrick.img file, I chose Partition 0 which has 60 MB and says (FAT 12).
13) All the default settings seem fine, but the only thing I changed was unchecking "Read-only drive" near the bottom. Then I clicked OK.
14) Now you will see your drive mounted. Double click on it and you will see a new window pop up with the folder "image."
15) Replace this image folder with your image folder that you saved to your desktop in step 10. Then close the window.
16) Click "Dismount all & Exit."
You're done! Now follow these instructions on how to burn the debrick.img file to a microSD card load onto your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2660566
Since I use Windows (Windows 8.1 to be exact), I used win32diskimager-v0.9-binary.zip to burn to my microSD card. I double checked to see if the partitions were there by opening it with MiniTool.
Please, if someone could tell me whether or not this works for them, let me know!
Hello,
thank you very much for your effort! I built one and - Yeah the first try did not seem to work. After the try I wanted to be safe that battery is fully charged, so i plugged it. After a while I saw something on the screen! It might have booted automatically.
Now there are a few lines:
BOOT RECOVERY MODE
Check Boot Partitions..
Copy from T-Flash..
BOOT RECOVERY..
Write 139008 Sectors..
FLASH WRITE FAILURE
ddi: mmc read failed
ODIN MODE
Product Name: GT-I9195
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
KNOX Kernel Lock: 0x0
KNOX Warranty Lock: 0x0
CSB-Config-LSB: 0x30
BOOTLOADER AP SWAEV: 2
WRITE PROTECTION: Enable
Yeah I think I can now flash with ODIN
Thank you for this post, it might also help others to build their own debrick.img
I will now resume with resurrection
*UPDATE*
Unfortunately I did not succeed in flashing the phone. I think the emmc-Chip has died
First time I flashed, I got an error that there was no PIT.
Then I added one and said "re-partition" in ODIN.
It now found the PIT but failed. On the phone there was written a new line in red:
PIT Fail: Total sectors (0)
Well, I do not think I can do anything more. Or do you have any ideas what I could try in addition?
If not then RIP my beloved S4 Mini.
But this has nothing to do with the topic. The method described to create a debrick out of a stock rom is possible and it was successful.
That's funny that you mention it's an S4 mini. I know I posted in the S6 section about this, but only because I was trying to post where there seems to be (possibly) more traffic. And I figured that it's pretty general because it's about creating a debrick.img and not necessarily about debricking a specific phone.
Nobody was answering any of my questions on the other subsections. I also have an S4 mini that I'm trying to debrick. It's the SGH-I257M. I wasn't sure if my debrick.img wasn't working because I tried on a 2GB card and then a 64GB card (both class 10). So I borrowed a 16GB card (class 10), and still nothing is happening. So I'm just leaving it plugged in (like you said). We'll see what happens!
I wondering if there is a problem with the S4 minis dying. It's a friend's phone and he said it kept randomly shutting off. Then one day it just wouldn't turn back on. Maybe it's the battery. Who knows.
upload debrick.img shv e110s please
