What ROM/version are you running right now? (settings-> about phone)
If it's not CM10, grab Odin one click KK4 without bootloaders. Flash it and then flash Corn kernel with Odin 1.85. From there, flash CM10 as per their instructions.
PS.: The only way to brick your phone is by flashing bootloaders and having issues, which rarely happens is the user is careful and knows what he's doing. Since you don't need to flash bootloaders, there's no chance of bricking your phone if you follow the right instructions.

If you're already on GB (2.3.3), you don't need to flash KK4 (2.3.5). You can get back to CM10 as per their instructions.
Flashing Corn kernel with Odin 1.85 would be your first step.

[Q] Bootloop problem

I am just about to throw my phone at the wall.
So I was on stock 2.3.3 and decided I wanted to update to ICS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488096
I didn't have clockwork mod and wasn't rooted so I eventually got this working
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
Then I tried to install the ICS rom but it wouldn't work. I then tried to flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353657 which for some reason didnt have any cell phone coverage.
I tried going back to the just rooted version of 2.3.3 but haven't been able to get the phone to go past the samsung logo / Clockwork Recovery.
Edit: Whenever I try flash the 2.3.3 rooted rom it updates me to Clockwork Mod Recovery v3.0.0.5 with HEAPS of errors.
Any ideas?
You should go back to a stock rom via Odin...you will need a rom that has 3 files (csc , modem, phone) and the Odin 512 .pit file and check the repartition box.

[Q] Download mode menu missing

Hi guys. Recently I bought a used I896 with I897UCKF1 2.3.3 firmware. I cannot root it or upgrade it to ICS cos I have a problem: when I press vol down button plus power button to enter download mode the phone boots normally. When I press vol up plus power button instead of recovery mode my phone enters "Android system recovery <3e>". Any advice what to do?
The combination for recovery is vol up/down+power. You will need to flash a kernel with ClockworkMod recovery baked in.
Why didn't you also tell him the proper dl mode combo?
Anyway... Its both volume buttons only, no power at all, and inserting a USB cable that boots into download mode.
[QUOTEAnyway... Its both volume buttons only, no power at all, and inserting a USB cable that boots into download mode.[/QUOTE]
Thans a lot man. My Cappy is now rooted and having 2.3.5. Right now I'm looking for a stable ICS rom. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Can you recommend me a kernel with cwm recovery? In my Samsung recovery menu 3e I do not have "install zip from sd card" option. Or may I use Rom Manager Premium to install ICS .zip rom?
If you are on Gingerbread and an i897 rom (KF1 would meet that requirement), you can flash boog's kernel, which will have CWM baked in.
You'll need to use something like Odin or Heimdall to get there, which boog includes in the files listed above.
The other option is to flash a stock rom with a CWM kernel included, like the one in my signature.
I'm on UCKK4 - 2.3.5. Is it ok to flash that kernel? And I ask you guys who have ICS on your Cappy is it worth to install it now or should I wait for more stable versions?
You should be able to use Boog's kernel. If you want to be 100% sure of a match, you can try corn kernel KK4.
ICS is pretty great, but be aware there is a risk (although small) of the internal SD card being messed up. Look for "Encryption Unsuccessful" in the development forum - if you flash ICS, just know what to do if that situation happens.
Hmm, you made think about it. I'm not so sure anymore about ICS. I think it's better waiting for a while. I also have a i9000 and installed ICS on it and there was a problem with external sd.
Finally I installed a 4.0.3 rom and I have to admit it was a mistake. Now I'm looking forward to get back to UCKK4 2.3.5 but I don't really know how to do it. On my internal memory I have the backup of the 2.3.5 version made before getting to 4.0.3 and I tried to restore it from the recovery menu but it doesn't work. I think I'm missing something. Can you help me? Thankx.

You'll need to flash back to the 2.3.5 rom you had before flashing to ICS (whatever rom you were using when you made the backup), then restore the backup in recovery.

AOKP build 32 is very stable for me if your looking to give ics another chance. Make sure you do all the proper wipes before flashing.

Grab an Odin or Heimdall one-click to get back to stock KK4, and flash that. Once you've flashed back to stock KK4, if you were using any custom rom (anything non-stock), flash that to your phone. (The idea is to be as close to your previous setup as you can be.)
Once you've done those steps, reboot into recovery and go to "backup/restore". In the restore options, look for the backup you made and restore it.

Ok, if you say so, I'll try it. It crossed my mind to give ICS the second chance but I didn't know exactly what rom to try. I supose I need to do a wipe cache from recovery mode and after this I have to use the option install from sd card? Am I right?
What ROM are you coming from before ics?

I'm not sure what that file is - it may be fine, but I don't want to say "flash away!" and leave you with a messed up phone.
I would suggest going here and grabbing the non-bootloader Odin one-click (assuming one-clicks have worked for you in the past). Flash that, and you should be good to go with KK4.

Rocketrom comes with philz kernel and it is brickfree..So you can directly flash gb rom using pc odin
Hydracore doesnt work with leaked jb roms
when using pc odin, it doesn't require you to be on a safe kernel
its possible to returen to ics stock from jb? i looked and the guide says that you have to be on gb and from there flash ics
pc odin can flash stock rom on the phone no matter what rom you are on.
are you sure?the guide says the you have to be on gb first,so just to put the tar file in pda?
?

You can flash a safe kernel, then do a factory reset and it boots up successfully

Use PC Odin to flash stock ICS directly. No intermediate steps, like flashing a custom kernel or going back to GB, are needed.

May be, but that's a step after flashing ics. I don't know why op wants to flash hydracore before using pc odin
too many ideas.i afraid to try it.
there are not many ideas.
All comes to one. Don't confuse yourself
put phone in download mode
connect to pc
open odin and select the rom file in the pda tab
flash
once done, don't do any wipes till you install a safe kernel

[Q] How to update to stock ROM?

I would like to know if the first link is safe for me, and which ROM I should use of the ones listed there (I live in The Netherlands). Do you guys have any tips or some guides made for the noobs among us?
that 1st link is the safest and best.
download the rom of. your choice. It. doesn't need to be of. your region. although you can check the latest firmware on www.samfirmware.com....
Once downloaded, use pc odin with the downloaded rom tar.md5 file selected in the pda tab. The connect the phone to pc in download mode and press start.
If you are upgrading to ics, then do not do any wipes, first flash a safe kernel...

Thanks for replying. Good to know that that thread is safe, but what do you mean by flashing a safe kernel? Those terms mean nothing to me.
theres two way to flash ROM. 1 is using PC ODIN and the other one is CWM
Flashing Via PC ODIN .. you need to have two thing.. The Rom You Want to flash and the PC-ODIN software
Flashing Via CWM.. you need two things. You need to root your phone and you need to install CWM.
every rom comes with modem, kernel (the file that govern how to handle your phone cpu), csc... the kernel inside ics is known to have brickbug
theres no need to flash kernel if you are flashing Rom via PC ODIN... Flashing kernel is when you are using CWM....

So, I can just flash any ROM using ODIN, and there will be no risk bricking my device?
If I flash a ROM, will I have a fresh install, and will my kernel also change so that I don't have the brickbug anymore?

yes you can flash any ROM using ODIN safely without bricking your device.
yes you will have a fresh install. your kernel will change too. as for the brickbug....
If you flash via PC ODIN then everything is stock to what you flashed.the kernel the firmware the csc the modem..all as stock provided....
1.If you flash ICS via PC-ODIN then your kernel also would be stock ics kernel that has brickbug..
Warning :
Don't wipe anything from stock ICS recovery
Don't factory reset/Hard reset on stock ICS.
Don't flash any Wipe version of ICS ROM
let say you want to flash Latest JB Rom but you are on ICS stock.
first thing you need to do is root your device ...install CWM.. Flash safe kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
let say ive rooted... installed CWM with safe kernel...
what i always do is everytime i want to flash new rom whatever rom it is...i flash Speedmod 3-15 (safe kernel) and go to Advance>reboot recovery and flash any rom i want so that im on the safe side without worrying what kernel im on.
2.If you flash GB than your kernel will be GB kernel which is safe to wipe..
if you want to flash custom rom from gb then you root your device and installed CWM and Flash since GB kernel is safe.
but.. let say u flashed ICS and wanted to go back to GB. then you are not safe anymore,,, that is why i always flashed Speedmod kernel 3-15 (safe kernel) and reboot recovery (by going to advance>rebootrecovery) and flashed any rom... that way im always sure that im in safe kernel when flashing Rom

I would prefer to simply revert back to gingrbread 2.3.6 (the version with which the phone was released).
is it possible to simply odin it back ?
i havent rooted my phone.
yeah simply flash GB with Odin
If it stuck after flashing at samsung logo, just reboot to recovery and wipe cache and data.
