Hi there, Just picked up a Nexus 7 32Gb in Ireland yesterday morning and despite coming from the iphone world, I really love it so far.
Quick question though, I've got XBMC installed which works great and connects to my network drive and can see everything but won't yet do HW+ decoding on mkv files so I'm trying DicePlayer and MXPlayer which are lovely.
Unfortunately I think there might be something weird going on.
Using ES File Explorer I can add my network drive at 192.xxx.x.x/Clay within which there are two folders, TV and Movies. Tapping on TV reveals the file structure and everything is playable. However, when I click on Movies I get a "Network Path not found or time out" error which doesn't make sense to me. If one works, why not the other, I've tried renaming the Movie Folder, same problem.
Can anyone make sense of this for me? I should add my desktop is an iMac.
Thanks in advance, and happy new year everyone.

Simon

I recently came back to the HTC fold after a year of uing Nokias by being given a Diamond for my Christmas and I've given my wife my N95. I have spent the last week searching various forums to try and solve the following problem.
I used to use my old phone to watch programmes I had downloaded from the BBC Iplayer site. I presumed it would be as easy as using Windows media player on my PC to sync the content to the Diamond as I could do with my old XDA Mini S. Unfortunately it's not !! I keep being hit with error messages saying that it requires a licence. I have tried downloading it with iplayer downloader and renaming the .mov file to mp4 which at least gives me picture but no sound on the Diamond. It is all the more galling when I see my daughter just dragging and dropping content onto her Creative Zen mp4 player and it plays without any hassle.
If someone could suggest a simple and hopefully guaranteed method I would appreciate it. I ahve searched the forum for this but all the threads relate to streaming content to the phone. This isn't really an option because I am on Orange with a pretty meagre data package.
Second that...
Yeah, I'd like to know the answer to that one too. I can play iPlayer programmes on the device via the video streamer thanks to the information in this forum, but I get the same lisence error if I try and play a programme I've downloaded on my PC... even though the download actually says it's for mobile devices?
Can anyone shed any light on this?

You'll have to search the forum for that one my friend... I can't remember where I saw the information. You have to update one of the settings in Opera to fool iPlayer into thinking your device is a Samsung Omnia, then visit the mobile iPlayer site and click away. The videos stream throught the pre-installed video streaming app on the device. (At least pre-installed in stock ROM's, if you're using a custom ROM then the cooker may have removed it!)
Happy searching!
The device needs to support playback of DRM protected content, to be able to playback the stuff downloaded from Iplayer. (something like that)
Thanks for that
It's not the streaming of programmes I'm trying to do it's playing files I have already downloaded and want to transfer to my Diamond

Have you tried coreplayer ?
Not the answer to the original question I know but a bit of info for streaming iplayer direct from the BBC website. I use Skyfire browser which is fine, and pretty quick.
Problem resolved
I did as suggested and installed coreplayer and I can play the content. I'll go through what i did because I'm not entirely sure that Coreplayer resolved the problem or no.
I downloaded Coreplayer and installed it on the phone. Because I had deleted the previous downloads I used my daughters laptop to transfer a programme she had downloaded to her Creative Zen. After I transferred it to my phone I went into File Explorer and clicked on the programme rather than opening in Coreplayer it opened in Windows media player. A warning popped up as usual "A licence is required to play this file" and it offered to download it as before. I thought "here we go again it'll fail to get the licence and won't play" but surprise surprise it played fine. Now I'm not sure if Coreplayer installs a codec that allows these files to play or whether the phone got a licence off my daughters laptop that was designed for the Creative Zen but bottom line is that it works. So I'm happy
My Wife just sent me a video from her I phone and I cant view it. What do I do?
Tell your wife like i told mine. Set your Iphone on fire and get a [email protected]*% Android. Problem solved.
.
Most surely the iPhone uses a recording coder that aint recognized by your Aria. h.264 mayhap? Use a video conversion tool or select another format in the iPhone.
Ran into this as well. I haven't messed with it since right after I got the Aria, and am going on memory here, but here's what I did IIRC:
download the file to the Aria from your email app. Use a file manager app to browse to the iphone video file (I used astro at the time) and rename the file - change the extension from whatever it was (.mov I think) to .mp4 Try playing the file in the stock media player.
I had mixed success with doing this...not sure if it's due to varyiing settings being used on the iphone sending the video, or the means by which it's sent, or something else.
Final solution was to get my wife a Captivate

Ive just today bought a P1010 wifi only galaxy tab after getting a price match sorted and a great price of £149 through Best buy and their new store opening.)
Ive already got a Galaxy S and have used this without any problems to connect that and display video content on the phone which is on my WHS2003 media server. Works a treat on this using allshare.
However, the app on the tab is different. I dont even get the option to add a username and password, which would be required to access the server.
Ive browsed a bit to find a solution, but no luck and have installed a couple of third party apps but still no good. I'm baffled why or how the galaxy S All Share is different to what it is on the tab.
I am basically wanting to access the media I have (thousands of films / TV shows / Music tracks) on my WHS2003 server and playback on my galaxy tab.
Any pointers would be appreciated.
If you are rooted on both devices you could try copying the Allshare apk from the Galaxy S to the Tab. I have found a few of the apps will work from one to the other. They should be in either the system\app or data\app folders.
Damn... I guess I'm going to have to wait a while before being able to do this! I dont have a USB connector for the phone at home - only a charger!
My phone is rooted - but not the tab as Ive only just got this today.
I used it to play some tvcatchup video - It was really pants! I hope it plays media better than that, else its not going to be with me for long and would be regarded as £150 down the pan!
Wondering if anyone has managed to solve the problem of video files restarting when being pulled from a windows share?
Using GT P1000
Tried CIFSManager... wouldn't mount the share. "Mounting has failed. No such device."
Tried a menagerie of other apps also to no avail.
ES File Explorer seems to be the best and most simple way to get the job done BUT, the videos restart when coming across from a windows network.
Any help would be appreciated...
CIFS manager is a pile of dung, stick to Mount Manager.
works on N1, sgs and sgt
I feel like... a complete douchesocket
10 hours were spent today rolling through ap after ap after ap. ES Share, Mount Manager, CIFSManager and others. There was talk of kernel modification, firmware updates and all kinds of unrequired hoodoo, when all it took to stream video flawlessly from a Windows network to a Samsung Galaxy Tab was AllShare.
AllShare.
I couldn't get Allshare to work (spent many hours trying), however, I did find File Expert worked although it only allowed me to watch from the beginning, I couldn't click through the video to the place I wanted.
AllShare can be a little bit confusing to start with as not everything sets up as it should by default. However, it's brilliant as it's a) free b) included c) doesn't require rooting or any other system mods, hacks or work arounds to operate. Indexing the shared folders also can be a little slow, depending on how many files are in said folders.
I think though it could be made a little more obvious... the tiny bit of documentation that came with the galaxy didn't mention it. The only reason I even noticed was because, out of frustration, I read the back of the box the Galaxy came in

i will be checking out all share soon, but Moboplayer + Astro File manager seems to be a flawless combination for me, the vid quality is almost 1 to 1.
Thx for the hint, AllShare works good for me with SD AVIs on an external USB HDD connected to a Win7 PC. I use the streaming function of WM12. Unfortunately it cannot play my MKVs.
But AVIs play much better and smoother than before. And i tested a lot of combinations: cifs with cifs manager, smb from es file explorer and ghost explorer, stock video player as well as mobo player. None of them played correctly. Stuttering with cifs and smb just plays some seconds before video jumps to the beginning and plays again.
Now, streaming and playing with AllShare seems to be good.

Dreamstream is apparently the same product that was released March 10 as "Wondershare Media Center" version 1.0.0, and then abandoned a few days later (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2676575). Presumably mini_wan can tell us, since he was the original poster in that thread too, and he seems to be a company rep.
Funny, the download file name still ends in _full1694, same as the Wondershare Media Center installer. Is that a build number or something else? I hope it's an improved version, since the original showed lots of promise, but too many bugs.
Unfortunately it looks like it will take a while to find out. Setup file corrupted.
...and now the links have been removed. I guess it's not quite ready. Check back later!

Previous versions has some problems in our program, but the current version we have made a lot of changes in the quality of cast .we have great improvements, have solved the audio and video sync issues. We will launch a better version in the near future and look forward to your suggestions
Ok, now the installer works. Not much different from Wondershare Media Center but the name though.
- It still crashes in DeviceDiscovery.dll on startup if there's a Roku device present on the network
- It still wants to automatically index all drives on the system, with no choice of folders to be indexed, file types to be indexed, or location to store the index
- Transcoding works, but there's a lot of pauses and the Chromecast often freezes permanently
- It still leaves WSHelper running, although at least it doesn't seem to install it to auto-run on startup
So, not much to show for a month's work.

Can you send the products log file to us?
The log path is Program Files\Wondershare\DreamStream\Log
Actually it's in C:\Program Files (x86)\Wondershare\DreamStream\Log on my Win7 64-bit system. How do you want me to send it to you?
The log file doesn't show where the program crashes in DeviceDiscovery.dll. I already reported the details of that crash in the old thread about Wondershare Media Center.
Do you want the log entries for the media items where the transcoder had problems and the Chromecast froze?

So I read this and then I read comments about transcoding. If this app is transcoding then there in quality loss. Does this support mkv? Including vc1 video? What about audio formats.
I've tried to run this but it will not run on my 8.1 laptop, so before I waste anymore time is it really "ALL with NO quality loss"?
I'm sorry if I sound confrontational, but when you make claims like that, you're gonna get held to it.
Work for me!
I have a netbook, acer aspire one, 2g of ram, and it work very well!!
The only thing is that subtitles are not suported.
I only try with .avi
