Hi everybody, i had a few problem with the "Media Server" glitch that drained out of my new Nexus 4 a good 40% of juice after a full recharge.
Now after a good work-around e surfing on the internet i want to share with you what can cause this annoying thing.
If you see something like this :
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

}
then this is not normal.
1: What drained so much battery from my phone was Rayman Jungle Run (a game) in fact even if I stopped play at the application was cached in memory and was using some sort of service. SOLUTION: Eliminate the app in the cache section in Setting > Application > In use OR swipe the app in the recent apps menu.
2: Many users say that media server can enter in a loop when trying to collect info from a corrupt file such as mp3, images, videos.
SOLUTION: Try to search for damaged files in your library and delete them.
3: The third cause can be the Google Play Music trying to sinchronyze all the music you have stored on the cloud. SOLUTION: Turn off synchro or wait until it's finished.
4: The last one is the sound when clicking the keyboard. Even if you are in silence mode the phone will load the sound from the library. SOLUTION: Turn off sound clicking in Settings > Audio AND in the option of the keyboard you are using.
Sorry if my english is not perfect, and hit thanks if I have helped you. Thank you
up
thank you
I have been looking for a solution every where with no luck until I tried the system sounds and keyboard clicks. It might be to early to tell but I think the problem is solved. I miss the sounds though

Surely you can just disable Media Server?
I'm running stock ROM with fauxs latest beta and for the first time my media server is at 3% whilst using player pro, I don't stream any music its all on the sdcard Normally its running at silly % while I'm playing music. On the other hand noozy doesn't use the media server so if you guys like that player

Dev believes to have fixed script although I'm still seeing the issue. Don't be fooled by thinking you have corrupt files. It definitely seems to be a Nexus 4 media server issue. I use power amp mostly.

Hello,
I'm having this problem media scanner drains the battery so fast rendering the phone unusable im down to 50% in 3 hours with only 1 hour screen time and didnt use google music player at all this is outrageous if i have to keep charging the device 2-3 times a day the battery will degrade much faster no?
why is google not updating as far as i know the problem persists since before the release of the device!

I solved the media server issue unistalling viber.
Now it is ok..
for me it was pictures saved with the Camera FV5 app that kept corrupting something. As soon as I deleted them from my library media server usage is at 6%

So I got my Google Music Beta on Monday (5/23) and was ecstatic. I've started uploading my music (currently at 2000 songs and going) and can access them online via music.google.com. The issue I'm encountering is on the Thunderbolt. All of Google's documentation says it should be a simple matter of hitting settings under the music application and telling it which account to use. I don't even have a settings option on my music player. I have the most recent one and have reinstalled from the market.
I've found some threads suggesting using the Xoom Music Player which will sync the phone music to the cloud, but that does not really solve my problem. Has anyone else gotten a similar issue, or better yet, a resolution. Also I'm currently running DasBAMF 1.6.3 Android 2.2 using the standard DasBAMF kernel.
Thanks

You need the new Music apk

I didn't try it when I was running remix 1.6.3, but I updated to das bamf 2.0-5 and it works great for me.

Like he said, you need the new apk. Unistall the version you have, go to the market and download it again. Press the menu button, go to settings, select your email account to link it with Google Music, and then come back here and apologize.
k, well, guess what, I uninstalled the music app, reinstalled it (let it be known that it was the same version, again no music settings) I'm going to the route of upgrading to 2.0.5

That's odd because the same thing happens to me when I flash a new rom. The auto restore feature installs Google Music but I always have to uninstall and reinstall from the market to get the settings menu. My apologies, maybe you have to be on Gingerbread but that doesn't sound right.
It works fine on Froyo.

Nvm, it finally showed up on dasBAMF 2.0.5 after uninstall and reinstall twice, I can see why its still in BETA

I am having the same issue and have uninstalled and reinstalled four times. Did you do anything besides uninstalling and reinstalling?

Maybe I'm crazy, but I thought the new beta synced music from my phone to the web based music.google.com and vice versa? I uploaded music from my PC to the web based and it shows up, but doesn't show up on my phone. Consequently the music on my phone doesn't show up on the web based either.
You have to sign in through the music app first and then it syncs the listings with your phone. You have the option to make songs, albums, etc.. available offline if you choose too.

When you setup the Music app on your system, did you specify what folders you wanted to be added to your library? I have it syncing with my iTunes library but you can also specify a specific folder if that's where you keep your music. After it uploads it should be available on any of your Android devices and computer browsers.

I have it set to pull my music from Windows Media on the web based. It still hasn't shown up on my phone, though. If I make the music available offline on my phone will it then show up in the web based?
To fix mine I had to also upgrade to Android 2.3.4 via dasBAMF 2.0.5, and clear data for the music app, uninstall, reinstall, rinse repeat.
Due to the latest warning put out by JCase, I'm back to dasBAMF 1.6.3, and I can't get the damn Android Music App to work. Is anyone at all running android 2.2 (rooted) and successfully using the cloud music feature of the Music Beta

The app_id for the chromecast receiver is going to be Pandora_App. Can't be used until Google/Pandora push the receiver app to the Chromecast repository. You could theoretically run it on an emulator but it's impossible to determine what the proper URL is for the app.
Along with the other new of mentions of Pandora on a non-live Chromecast page (don't remember the details), I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes official along with Kit Kat and the Nexus 5. Supposedly as early as tomorrow (10/31).
That would be a nice treat

What is weird about Pandora's Chromecast support is when you switch your source in the app (Chromecast to phone for instance) it doesn't sync up and starts playing a different song. That is really the only annoying thing about the app that I've noticed so far.

It also does not allow you to control from multiple devices without interrupting the music. I really wish they implemented this like Netflix app in that you can seamlessly move between devices (phone, tablet, etc)... Even more shocked Google didn't do it right (Netflix way) with Google Music...

I update the pandora app on my nexus 7 and my motorola droid razr maxx. I see the cast button on the nexus 7 but not on the droid. Is it in a different place for the phone app or shouldn't it be in the upper right hand corner?
I'm not horribly keen on the Pandora app at the moment I watched it play through a couple of songs and there's areas that are 100% static. This means for TV's that have risk of stuck pixels you can't use the app for long periods of time without risking leaving images stuck on your screen.
Pandora needs to add a dynamic screen similar to the one used by Google Music for the stuck pixels to not be a risk.
I have noticed if I'm listening to a song on my phone I can cast it to my Chromecast without it changing. However if I disconnect the song is forced into a change. So there is that lack of a clean switch going from casting to not casting. I only hope that any forced changes by a disconnect isn't consider a "skip" and count against that number.

Since the Pandora update, I set my TV screen to black to avoid that. It just made sense cuz Pandora has always been a static image. Even on my laptop, I'm surfing the web and never leave my display on Pandora. Plus, the UI is ugly.

My tv doesn't have an option to go black, maybe turning down the brightness and contrast all the way or something.
strange I'm only noticing ads while connected to chromecast and casting to my TV (ad pops up on the tv screen once in a while and I can't skip songs as much as I want). If I disconnect and just skip songs on my nexus tablet I get no ads or limited skips. Anyone else notice? Don't know how this could have anything to do with Chromecast

As in to multiple TVs?
Since each Chromecast is independent (think micro computer accessing Pandora), even if you managed to get the Pandora playlist point the same on all Chromecasts, they'd still all be receiving a separate and individual data stream, so sync would not be 100%. You'd probably get weird echo/reverb effects if you can hear more than one player's audio.
It's like if you and your friend both brought up the same YouTube video on two phone/tablets. Even if you both hit play at exactly the same time (and didn't get interrupted with an ad), each phone/tablet is getting a separate on-demand video "feed" and decoding it. Your playback would likely be close in time with identical hardware, but still no guarantee.
The proper way to do multi-location playback is via multicast streaming, which is more like an over-the-air TV broadcast. The "feed" is broadcast, and any number of receivers can "tune into it" and they'll get whatever is being broadcast at that time.
But I don't think Pandora can do that...
So back to your original goal, the easiest way would be to use an HDMI distribution device or splitter (be mindful of HDCP compliance, not sure Chromecast requires it, but it probably does) so the same signal is going to your multiple locations in the house.
You could put a Chromecast on each TV and switch cast destinations (I do this with YouTube sometimes), but that will give you breaks between moves as things reconnect. Don't forget to turn off the TV when you leave.
I can't seem to do the 'okay Google Now play *track name*' anyone of you can successfully do it? Thanks in advance

I can get it to play a song, but it's hit or miss most of the time. Sometimes I say play the song title only and it works, other times I say the artist and song title and it works. Other times in both scenarios it responds incorrectly taking me to the web, or sates it can't start the "instant mix". It's all over the place really, a crap shoot. I'm on 4.4.
Same here. The ghost in the machine has a temper.

I made a tasker app to solve this.
I made it how I want it to work anyway.
Install the app. It will be called "Shuffle".
Do your ok Google now or whatever you say to open touchless control.
Say "open shuffle"
The app will be opened. It opens Google music, starts playing music on shuffle mode. Then goes back to your home screen. Then I use Bluetooth to control it...like next track and whatever. Or you can drag down the status bar and control it that way.
Works great for me! Thought I'd share it with those interested.
Of course you don't need tasker, cause it's an app now. But you do need root and have to grant it root permission. Don't know why....tasker just makes it that way it seems.
Enjoy.

Nope...never works for me. Or some others it seems. The tasker app is simple...say "open shuffle". Done, you're music is shuffling.
Obviously it doesn't help if you want to listen to something in particular. But in the car I use shuffle...and hit next on my Bluetooth if I want to skip a song.
That's just me. And that's how the app was made. Just thought I'd share it.

There are 2 ways to play Spotify offline on your devices or players, one is to subscribe as a Premium Membership, the other is to try to use Spotify Music Converter, like TuneFab Spotify Music Converter. It is useful and powerful. You can have a try!
I think you could try to download the music you would like to play offline in power amp. I have used a converter to download music from Spotify, drm-remover.com/spotify-music-converter-win/, it works well until now. If you really need this function, you should try it before.
Buddy of mine has stock uprooted Nexus 6 and all his videos (including YouTube) keep playing with screen off. How is this even possible ? He doesn't even have music key with YouTube and no background playback settings, other vids on websites etc also play with screen off for him

He doesn't have any account, and like I said, he doesn't have any settings in YouTube associated with any account or background playback (I do, he doesn't) and its not just YouTube, its all videos. When I shut my screen off my videos stop, his continue playing
Could be an xposed module. Namely "YouTube Background Playback". But it's not currently working, in need of an update.

and i bet he can listen to any band or any song using google play music, thats what happens when you either use a free subscription or a paid subscription for google play music.

no he cant because he doesnt have free or paid subscribtion
There's no setting in youtube. It's not designed to play in the background. The fact it does is probably due to some app or something.
A reset will fix it but all data will be lost. Otherwise, remove apps 1 at a time until you find the culprit.

theres not a single issue posted anywhere about youtube playing in ths background. as far as i know, having the google play service, either free or paid, is the only way to get it to play in the background.
edit.. i did find a way around this, but it appears to be the only way.. https://www.androidpit.com/how-to-play-youtube-videos-in-the-background

I'm sorry, if this sounds rude, but I don't think you've been reading the thread properly and you keep repeating the same irrelevant thing.
The OP is not asking HOW to get all videos to keep playing in the background as a request.. The OP is asking for help BECAUSE all videos ARE playing in the background, when they shouldn't be.
Well I am not really asking for help. Its my buddies phone and he is totally fine with this glitch. I just wanted to know how it's all possible. I do have Music Key and with that subscription Play Music settings look a bit different and YouTube App settings as well have extra options, his phone doesn't have any of that.....and I repeat, its not even rooted, its been working like this for him since he purchased it new

It's a glitch.
The only way to get YouTube to do that is xposed.
I guess I owe @simms22 an apology. Seems it's me not reading properly.
It is a glitch, but its just very weird
hey, does your buddy get a notification in the status bar when he has a video playing in the background?

No, he can only do screen off with whatever app in foreground, background playback doesn't work
Funny my YouTube background playback recently stopped working and I do have the subscription.
