here you have a nav bar and it should work on CM10, but I don't know if you can install it on your phone because of your broken buttons.

Actually it's just a small change in a configuration file. Looks like it disables the hardware buttons and thus defaults to using on-screen buttons. I guess it should work on any device with a version of Android that reads that setting.
Seeing as you're using CM9 you probably already have root and a root-capable file browser, so it's really just editing a file.
thanks for answers
i finally use slim beam 3.1 that have the option of nav bar already installed and can be activated from the settings.

I haven't used CM in a while, but I believe its meant to be like that. As I said, I haven't used CM in a while, so I might be wrong.

It's still there. Annoying as hell to be honest. Always have to change app/go into task manager to see the notification bar.

Have you noticed how old is this thread? I also approached exactly the same problem, but there is option in more customizable roms (like carbon, slim roms, liquid smooth, illusion) called "status bar peek" or something similar, which enables similar behaviour of status bar like in Samsung stock rom.
Do not know if it is in CM nightlies...
It seems there's a nonav fix that can be installed via CWM somewhere, but I wasn't able t locate the file.
Edit: Right then, never mind.
It's settings => hybrid properties => swipe right => interface => set bav. bar to 0%.

Yeah, but if ur in tablet mode, you cant change the nav bar size
I developed an app that can do this in stock rom and I just added Paranoid Android support. Would be nice if someone could try it and confirm that it works or report bugs: GMD Hide Soft Keys.
Benefits for PA:
1) you can turn on Notification with switch control to hide/show navigation bar from anywhere.
2) Quick NavBar can be displayed with swipe from bottom (similar way to Pie)
3) Quick NavBar has button to toggle Extended Mode (full screen).
More features coming :fingers-crossed:.

There is no navigation bar in the tablet mode, those are just the navigation keys in the Tablet mode on the common status cum navigation bar, the tablet mode makes your phone into a tablet and as tablets don't have a capacitive back key like the phone, tablet interfaces will have those keys and you can't get them away unless there is some MOD for it which you can search in themes and apps forum.
Looking like a temp fix but I need something to work for now. I do I enable the action bar at the bottom of the screen. I don't want to have to install an entire new rom with this pre-enabled just to get the bar. Is there an app in the store that can enable this functionality?

Not quite the same implementation, and I haven't tried it on my Note3 but Button Savior was a similar thing I used on my eink Nook when I had it in semi tablet mode. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smart.swkey
Hey guys, just wondering what process would I follow to add the nav bar to the note 4. I know its gonna be a waste of screen real estate but I really prefer the nav bar over having to reach the physical home button.

I would really like this too. Unfortunately I have only been able to get it by either (1) using AOSP/CM roms, and (2) using Dynamic Kat rom. DK is the only Touchwiz based rom that I have seen with the feature. It works, but it is not customizable and does not utilize the swipe up "navring" feature.
There are some apps that mimic the navbar, but they don't work well on the Note 4 because they just put the bar on top of other screen elements (apps, home screen) instead of pushing everything else up.

have you guys tried adding this line in your build.prop?
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
Can you edit the build.prop on an unrooted phone?? I was just looking for info on this too.
Can you give any more info on editing it?
Thanks!

no there is no way you can edit system stuff without being rooted. You have to be rooted and then using any root explorer, I like solid explorer, you can edit build.prop. qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 can go anywhere in there so just add it at the end of build.prop
I just found this thead. They seem to be saying its not possible as the UI elements for the nav bar are not included in the OS.

I've tried the buildprop edit but when I reboot it shows me a SYSTEMUI CRASH and I have to revert back to my nandroid backup. I don't think there's anyway around it being on a rooted TW Rom. *Hyperdrive ROM
Any other way to get the NavBar with a TW featured ROM?

Same. It just constantly force closes if you use the build.prop method.
As I stated previously, you can use Dynamic Kat rom which is Touchwiz and includes the option to use on-screen buttons.

I see it was reported by those who have 5.0.1 touchwiz that navbar soft keys are possible on that build so you'll have to wait for tmobile to release it to find out
I use Pie Control from the play store. You need to swipe in the the sides or the bottom to activate it. There are a lot of options for customization as well. It also makes one handed use much easier. No root required.
Hi all! I was planning on waiting for the official release of 6.0, but my Nexus 6 hasn't been wiped in over half a year and is starting to get laggy.
Before I flash M Preview 3, I was wondering if the following functionality that I usually achieve through MCR Control on 5.1 was available in any way on M Preview (via mods, etc):
Reverse position of Back and Multitask buttons on nav bar
Double tap to wake screen
Show percentage inside battery icon in status bar
Add reboot button in notification shade
Enable LED while charging
The most important thing in the list for me is probably swapping the position of the Back and Multitask buttons, since this greatly increased the ease of using the Nexus 6 one-handed for me (and my muscle memory grew accustomed to it long ago). The rest of these features are nice-to-haves, but the Back button being on the left in stock is a significant enough change to potentially hold me back until someone mods it. Anybody know?
Thanks!
no, except batter percent is there.

Thank you so much for the thorough breakdown! It's good to know most of these things can be accomplished.
Hopefully someone can still figure out or provide instructions on how to swap the navigation buttons - in the meantime I'm going to hold off. Guess I did this to myself by letting myself get used to it!
No problem. I guess you can use auto hide soft keys. It allows you to move the buttons on a fake nav bar after hiding the stock one.
Fixed the app name.

Make a full nandroid backup to your PC and flash the M preview and you get quick answer on all your questions.
My experience was as follows:
A. flashing the P3 image is easy, but requires a factory reset.
B. M has the same ugly interface as Lollipop.
C. My GPS navigation app, does not work in M.
D. I did not notice a better performance.
E. I could not change the DPI setting, and has to live with the idiot Google defaults.
F. Customizing M needs still rooting etc.
G. Installing M wiped the internal storage, including backup. ( transfer to PC first )
At this moment I am back to 5.1.1 because two essential apps do not work.
Disappointing is that M still has no special features/settings for phablet devices with hires amoled displays. For instances dpi-settings and g-apps with a black/dark background.
Can anyone running M Preview perhaps check whether SoftKeyZ works on there to swap Back and Multitask? It reportedly works fine on the Nexus 6 with 5.x, but I don't see anyone who's tried it on 6.0 yet.
