This thing is going to be completely amazing, can't wait for it.

I can't wait for this. I won't be putting it on my N7 though. It'll be going on my N4. Gotta keep some Android in my life.

have you considered Multiboot? it allows you to dual (or triple, quadruple, whatever) boot android and ubuntu (or anything else). i haven't gotten it working yet, but many others have.

I have Multiboot working on my Nexus 7, it's quite easy actually:
- First flash an working rom to your Nexus
- Flash the modified recovery using fastboot flash recovery xxxxx.img
- Flash the Multiboot ZIP using the recovery
- Flash the modified kernel ZIP using the recovery
Reboot and you will see the Multiboot boot selector
Currently I have JB and Ubuntu installed on my Nexus 7, trying to get WebOS and Bodhi working as well

Problems Flasing Recovery

Ok, so I spent the last 5 hours reading through this forum and trying all sorts of things, now it is time to ask somebody who knows what they are doing.
I am trying to get my T-Mob 2.2.2 to Honeycomb. Why? Because I had to change a broken screen and was stupid enough to rip the cable for the menue keys and since we don't need them on honeycomb, that seems to be the way.
So I went through Manii's instructions and downloaded all the drivers etc. so far so good. Even used the tricks hidden in the orum to force windows to install the drivers. I am on xp. My device manager shows Dell Android ADB device. The streak shows 'starting fastboot USB download protocol' and does not move from there.
I ran adb to see if it works. adb reboot rebooted the Streak, so it seems fine. Now the problem is fastboot.
in cmd I type: 'fastboot flash recovery-froyo-US.img'. the recovery file is in the same path as fastboot.
This is what I get:
Unknown partition 'recovery-froyo-US.img'
error: cannot determine image filename for 'recovery-froyo-US.img'
I am hoping somebody can help me out here.
Thanks
Why is there a dash between recovery and froyo.you should remove that dash also why do you name the recovery to a hard name it will make the process more complicated so go to were you put the recovery and rename it to "recovery" onlyyy and without the quotes then put into bootloader and then go into fastboot and type cd C:\the name of the folder were you put the fastboot and the recovery and press enter then type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img that's it
Never tell anybody outside the family what you're thinking again.
Fastbooy flash recovery <path to recovery>

While your at it might as well flash cwm too. Changing the file name to recovery makes it a whole lot easier. Also why are you flashing a Froyo recovery if you are going to be on HC? Or is that the way tmo does it?

Froyo is required to than use the update.pkg for T-Mobile. Since T-Mob did not support the honeycomb update, this is the only way.
So, I found my mistake. It had nothing to do with the path and the name, the file can be named whatever it wants to be named.
I simply forgot one term.
Fastboot flash RECOVERY filename.
Pretty stupid looser newbee mistake. Finally running now. Somebody mentioned they had some problems with a flickering screeen on the lower right (in landscape mode) after update, guess I have the same. Just insstalled a new screen, so that would not be the problem, any ideas?
Thanks for all your help

One more to go  ...but seriously, JB on DS7, does that make any sense? I have to say, I am not even impressed by HC, the screen resolution does not really cater to any of the newer OS.

I call BS as I am pretty much the only dev working on it. If you had a working JB you would have already posted it.

I have to agree with Giveen here, even though you might make a claim to it you wont get much fame out of it (if any) as you are new to the scene, even I dont get much recognition with the MIUI port (A. because it doesnt work yet B. because nobody really gives a sh!t about a new dev C. I dont go around making claims I cant back up, failed ROMs or not I still make steady progress on this D. nor do I wish to be an attention whore) so unless you can provide a link that has a working JB ROM for the DS7 (that isn't Giveen's) then we might believe you, oh and we will know if you have used Giveen's ROM as there are certain lines of code that only Giveen uses
You could also make a post with it on the general section with it and ask a dev to move the page. So yes I am also calling shinnanigans.
Nothing says you cant simply make a thread here and ask for it to be moved (or you can even leave it here and it will be moved anyway as it belongs there)
so thread closed on account of mass BS by n00b RE the supposed development of JB for S7 by the chinese? I think yes

Ubuntu installed

Just finished installing ubuntu and dual boot on my N7. Install was easy did it through my desktop. pretty cool. went quick too. cant wait to start doing more.

Yes. Didn't you notice the name change?:silly:
Op. Care to tell us anything else other than 'I did it'. Maybe the process, make a guide, anything at all that would make the community better?
Lol. Sorry. There is a ROM in the original development section that let's you dual boot. You can download the boot image from there.

Do you have a custom ROM and Ubuntu or stock ROM with Ubuntu?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
AOKP 4.2 and Ubuntu. I was running the Multi ROM from the Original Android Development section. It does just that, lets you running several ROMS. I don't have much of a need other than AOKP and Ubuntu but it's awesome you can choose which ROM to boot. I wound up screwing up everything last night by messing around. I wiped my entire tab. I loaded Ubuntu on my PC and managed to reinstall Ubuntu on my tablet, while wiping out everything. So now I have to redo everything. That's what I get for messing around with things I have no idea about. But for me thats the only way I learn.
If you want to run Ubuntu too, check out the Multi ROM. Works very well for me and seems like for quite a number of others.

Unusal issue

morning folks, just looking for a bit of help, just got a nexus 7 week or two ago and am looking to work on my owmn personal mods to kernel etc (probably wont release any as yet) but every boot image i try to flash wont boot at all - even fastboot boot refuses to do anything, any ideas what my issue is
Does not boot...any sign of life after the flash, or does the flash itself fail? I believe you have unlocked the bootloader but it's still worth a check.
bootloader is unlocked yes, if i do fastboot boot boot.img it just sits at bootng downloaded image, if i flash the img it sits at google logo permanently
This is the dev section, threads not related to development does not belong here, questions goes to the Q&A section..
And it seems that you device is done for..
Beamed from my Maguro.
Not really as it is dev related as its related to my own development on the device, its not device as I'm using it now after reflashin 4.3

Okay the only kernels that will work on 4.3 properly are faux's kernel, vorcer's kernel and Tasssadar's kexec kernel. Others won't work.
Problem is no kernel will boot including on 4.2 it seems like I may not be building boot right or something
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
Try the zImage separately. If it works and you still need help creating a boot.img, lemme know.

I'm no expert, so I can't help, but it seems like you are being very vague. You do not have any clue as to steps you took that are possibly incorrect? It just seems like you won't get much help if you don't share some details. I could be wrong.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
I can share details as needed, not being intentionally vague and have been building kernels for android for some time hence I am pretty experianced but suspect n7 has some slightly different ways of building a working boot IMG than I'm used to

Try what I said. If the zImage works for you then you are aren't packing the boot.img correctly.
Hello DJ_Steve,
Familiar with you from your work on the Dell Streak 7. If you don't find a solution, try the developer only discussion thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2071
Looking forward to any work that you may do for the N7.

Try erasing boot then flash the stock boot image again?

I agree.
Flash a stock boot.img for the ROM version you are on then use koush's any kernel method to flash the zImage.

I really feel disappointed to see that there is only one root method for this device and there is no CWM recovery or TWRP, This device don't even have Dowload Mode, How I'm going to flash a custom rom??? i have several devices all of them rooted running custom roms, and this is the newest and the worst since i can't make any modifications :what::banghead:

If you want it so bad then why don't you try to make it happen?
Since there is root, it shouldn't be impossible to start by dumping partitions and share them to make it available for whoever want's to take a look at it.

i posted the partitions in my root thread.. and there is download mode get quick boot pro and you can get to it..
also i was going to work on a recovery but the website that builds them has been down. and I dont really want to configure a whole fedora box and start from there.
this is really strange! i try the 3 button combo when I get this phone and didn't work but I try again today and yes it has the (download mode) and the (3e recovery) :what:

I have a G730A and I want CyanogenMod 10.2. I am willing to help develop and test. I have very basic programming skills, and some Linux skills (currently do not have Linux installed though). If I am told what to do I can research how to do it and get it done. I just need instructions.
And if having linux is going to make it way easier, I can install it. I prefer Ubuntu but I can work with Fedora.

Dual boot

Can someone please link me to the dual boot, also do I need to wipe for it to work and what is the process on the dual boot?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
What you are looking for is MultiROM.
You will not need to wipe anything.
Once installed whenever you reboot your tablet it will boot to a menu where you choose which of your installed ROMs it boots to.

Not dual boot, but multi ROM. I'm pretty sure the only restriction on the amount of ROMs is your storage size.
Yes, you can run Ubuntu Linux.

Yeah, MultiRom is your only choice for booting more than one OS on the nexus 7.
