Ubuntu for android - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Now that we know ubuntu has been officially announced for android devices and a beta has also been developed for Galaxy Nexus, I would request the devs out here to try and get in touch with canonical and develop the same for our phones
it will give something fresh to our devices...we all know what this new OS is capable of.
and we can't trust Sammy with updates...this might be our last.

Possible? Certainly.
Plausible? Well, I'd say yes to this as well.
However there's probably an immense amount of work involved. I'd love to try port it myself, just for the challenge. Unfortunately, at the moment I can't afford to dedicate the amount of time that would be necessary to pull it off.
I saw somewhere that it isn't possible because Samsung didn't release entire source code, but is it possible to use CyanogenMod kernel for the port or something like that

there were ports from the official Meego blog for nexus one...i dont think its impossible for galaxy S
But it would be cool to run Maemo/Meego and Android on our Galaxy with dualboot like WM6.5 & Android on HTC HD2 (Leo).
Yeah, if someone is willing to do the port i would donate to him
Is anyone willing to do the port?

Okay, that's meaning possible?
Just no one to porting to SGS?
I guess there is just not enough incentive for the developer community. Very few people use MeeGo/Maemo.

Galaxy Note WP7?

Is there any chance of it ever happening?
I had to say a sad goodbye to my HD2 WP7 to make way for my new Galaxy Note.
Personally, I prefer the WP7 OS to Android, and it would be a dream come true if it were ever available on a Note.
The problem here is that with a Linux-based operating system port all of the components are open source and hackable in order to get them to work on specific devices. With a Microsoft operating system this is *not* the case since MS don't open source any of their components and thus it would be damn near impossible to get this to work on a device it wasn't intended for.
The only exception here would be if there was some kind of emulator of another device which it *was* designed to work on developed for Android but I really can't see that happening since I just don't think it has the same following as Android and thus there wouldn't be much of a market for it.
TL;DR version: No.
Although we might be able to install windows8 arm at the end of the year.
For hackers and tweakers as a lot of us are, this opens some nice horizons
so why didnt you just get a wp7 handset? the note wont be running anytime soon, you know how much hacking and that the hd2 has a nice boot loader to aloow magldr to interface with it to get the other os supported?

I love everything about the Note except Android, but I also love WP7. So I had to make a tough decision, and the Note just edged it

??
Why would you wanna go to windows 8 with android around ? Android on G-note is much more powerful than with windows.
incase you haven't checked the "apollo" and it's capabilities please do a brief research...
windows phone 8 is on a whole new level of competition here...
considering the release of windows 8 for our computers... and the Microsoft E3 press conference... i doubt that "crappy" tag someone just gave above this comment...
i've been using windows mobile 6, 6.1, 6.5, windows phone 7, mango... and galaxy note is my first android device...
before galaxy note i was using htc hd2 and i still have that device... (but galaxy note is my primary device) so i thought if we can port android on a windows phone why can't we port windows to an android phone?
and for the respected people who are interested in this idea... i think we need another version of MAGLDR (like we had in htc hd2) and maybe we can install the "apollo" on our SD card...
we may have a dual boot device!
if you can find (or develop) the drivers, yes... it can be ported.
and yes, i dare say any winblows product is crap
you may "dare" **** your pants or eat crap sir/madam, nobody cares about that... and if you find this post soooo uninteresting or "crappy" why bother replying nonsense thoughts of your p-brain which (...is actually dehydrated) aren't useful for anyone?!
and thanks for the motivation you just gave me... :]
i posted this question to discuss, maybe help real developers/people not assclowns/disrespectful people who don't even respect the hardworking developers who create these operating systems for us...
Its my humble opinion !!!
I was also a user of Windows and bada OS' . And with android around they are not even in the competition. And this is my own opinion, so i'll move it off.
Android is, indeed, more powerful than Windows. But, different strokes for different folks.
Since we have sources now, I'm pretty sure more developers will come along soon and hopefully, for your sake, a developer that can port Windows 8. The more variety, the better, for us all.

Being fair, would it be worth to port it in d note cuz, it involves a lot of time and much more risk( With mmc brick bugs in stable releases themselves).

don't hold your breath. those sources are linux based as android is linux based. do you expect devs to develop a winblows OS based on a linux kernel?
maybe.... just maybe.... when the winblows kernel is freely available and somebody is really interested to port or develop the drivers, then maybe you might have a winblows "experience" on your note. and while you're at it, why not wish for iOS port to Note?
keep wishing........
people hate it when the absurdity of their delusions hits them smack in the face.

[Q] Firefox OS port?

Hi there!
I was wondering if it is feasible to port Firefox OS to the HTC One. Several previously android-based phones can run Firefox OS. The Kernel source is available, and we do also have S-Off IIRC.
Any thoughts on this?
it should be feasible, it is just a matter of skill and time but if i am informed right, ff os is more intended for low spec phones, so i am not sure if anyone will port it soon...

Yes it is true that the initial markets and devices are targetted for low-end phones, but does that automatically mean that high-end devices can't run it?
If I had the skill, I would port it myself, but since I don't, I thought I'd start by posting this question here if it's possible at all.

I never said that high-end devices can't run it i said that due to the fact, that its targeted for low-end phones (so you won't get anything fancy) devs will more likely concentrate on more interesting subjects such as ubuntu touch e.g...
But lets wait and see what time will bring...im sure some day, one dev will be "bored" and start porting it

Request for other operating systems on Android One

This is a request thread for developers to port non-Android OSes to Android One devices.
Hello there users and devs of Android One!
Here in this thread, I will put forward the rationale for developers to port mobile operating systems that don't have a robot as a logo to our devices.
Android One is well supported by Google and (somewhat shockingly) MediaTek. Source code can be found on Google's official repositories and as a result, the custom ROM development scene is very much alive. The only thing lacking are the ports of other platforms. We have the install base to test ports (I think), we have CM support (this helps with porting some systems such as FirefoxOS and Ubuntu Touch) and we surely have devs who can do it (you know who you are and I hope that you're reading this).
As for users, please comment down below for what operating systems y'all would like to see on your phones so that we can grab the attention of those heroes behind the screen! Developers can reply to a request directly or PM me if you want to talk. It would be nice if you coders would respond.
P.S. Thanks for all the ROMs and the entire community is grateful for the works you all did for Android One users around the globe! :good:
buy a nexus device and u will have that OS
Android One devices are like cheap nexus devices
The reason many buy Android One phones is to get the vanilla experience for cheap. Some buy it because it's a Google device, therefore, easy to tinker with. Also Nexus devices may not be found easily at retail shops in some countries. That's why I bought Android One. What this thread is hoping to achieve is to (at least) get discussion started on other OSes in our phones. It's very likely that there are people here who bought Android One because of the Nexus-like experience being more accessible.
Will really appreciate the work to port other OS to android One... Hope someone makes that happen
Yes.Can't wait to see another os
FirefoxOS has already been ported to sprout, by Shahidujjaman Khan Anik. He said that he'll make a thread soon.

Great!
That's really nice! I wanted to try my hand at porting it myself, but I ran into an issue during the build process. Glad to hear that someone was successful in doing so!
Hopefully this is only the beginning of OS diversity on Android One.
P.S. Best of luck to the developer and I'll start testing on my device soon.
P.P.S. I'm considering making a thread for him, is that allowed and could I hand over management and/or ownership to the dev after creation?
Happy to see Firefox OS on android One. Hope to see more of them too
Btw is hike available on firefox OS by any means?
News.....
I search for ubuntu touch for sprout and found that same dev that compiled firefox os has compiled a version of Ubuntu Touch!

I can't wait to test it.
If someone has test one of this, please give us some feedback

quick update
ubuntu touch system.img does not installing.... so I cannot boot it
firefox os boot up and works fine for now,
-camera does not work indeed...
-sometimes random crashes
for me it is not a daily driver for now....
Installed Firefox OS
Bugs
1. Sim 2 does not work
2. Cannot connect to mobile data
3. Camera does not work
As @lzimbrea said, not recommended as daily driver

Anyway users have to give it a try! Is first different os for sprout.
Maybe an update will fix some bugs and make it a daily driver
Personally I wait for ubuntu touch build.... Firefox os is a bit immature for now.
Congratulations to dev for his efforts!
What about windows ?Did anybody port it?
Cannot compute
Windows mainly runs on the x86 architecture, while most Android devices like ours run on the ARM architecture. Mainstream Windows will not run and Windows 10 Mobile is closed-source; what this means is that the code is inaccessible for anyone wanting to port it. Unless Satya Nadella sees fit to open up Windows source code, this won't happen.
