There are already some posts about the unlocking of the bootloader, so you can read them carefully and see how is the state of the art.
And about the custom roms, I think Dexter just heard you and built one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085710

Yes looks tasty but no radio yet! We atleast need calls and data. But thats great work so far.
See no real reason not to have a fully working custom rom, as unlocked boot loader is not a must!
Several other devices have locked boot loader and have great working custom roms. : O)

as far as i have seen o4x has a pretty good and stable kernel so u dont need one unless u want to oc
and that could be achieved with modules as well if module loading is suported by the kernel...
I wan't everything what is possibile. What about some missing functionality let's say iptables? Some day LG will end support of the phone, what then?

Yes, I know, apparently LG found out, that I'm buying their phone so they decided to unlock bl. Still I don't trust them, so I advise to continue development rather than wait for them.

I believe that was done by Dexter, although I can't be certain as you didn't bother to post a link to the video. If I am right then it's a beta version which is run with the stock kernel - if you search on these forums you will probable find a reference to it, but I think he has stopped developing for our device due to the locked bootloader and (I think) he has got rid of his 4X as well.

I do not have o4x in my possesion anymore, sorry. I have limited support options now and not very interesting. the modem driver was not easy to get around, so the sense4.1 release was never public, since it would be 900MB download for nothing, but a startup and running the senseUI, but no modem/data and wifi making it worthless.

I'm not sure there are actually ANY developers on XDA for our device. Also, the last thing I would ever want from a custom ROM is Sense - that is one of the main reasons why I moved away from HTC - it may look pretty, but it is a serious resource hog. The only custom ROM I would ever really be interested in is something vanilla - CM, AOSP, AOKP, whatever.

Start off by searching - both XDA and Google. Find out how a ROM is put together, what part the kernel, and the main O/S do - find out how to sort out the drivers, get someone else's ROM for a different device and see how it is put together. There is so much out there already, you simply need to search and if you are good enough to produce a ROM then you will succeed.

There you go. It's Semse 4.0 though, not 4.1 but most things work

Do you mean you flashed [ROM][SENSE][10-01-2013] UnoX SENSE4 for Optimus 4X HD - FIRST CUSTOM ROM!
If so then that's a fairly silly thing to do - it is an Alpha release, from a developer who no longer has the phone, and it's based on ICS, not JB.

Do you actually bother reading before posting? :banghead:
Making the ROMs is actually the easier part of it. The problem is that we have a locked bootloader, so we are very restricted in what can possibly be done. That's why there is no development for our phone.
Isnt it possible to Hijack the Bootloader like BootMenu or BootStrap for Moto Razr?
Im not a dev so this is just an idea ^^
not yet, kholk is working to unlock the bootloader
Yes, bootstrap /2nd init is possible. Dexter demonstrated that with his recovery and a HOX Rom, where the phone wouldn't work. Unfortunately his Rom is gone, but you're welcome to do a new one.

Just a question on that: Why would you not stay on the new bootloader? To try another ROM for the old bootloader?
Right now I am on new bl and I thought probably future development will be focused on it, so that's why I am staying..
So I guess the advantage is to get most ROMs first and probably more ROMs in future?!

What's it based on? ICS or JB?
As stated on the topic I'm a newbie in the world of installing new roms, etc on android phones and I haven't done it before cause I'm a bit scared by the whole thing (I don't want to end up with a brick), I managed to install a custom recovery system on an old samsung and a new ROM, yet with Xiaomi even if it might be the same looks a bit different, so before proceeding to do anything with my current phone I have a couple of newbie questions:
-Can FastBoot be broken somehow?
-Can I use ROMs of other devices (Besides of the Redmi 4x)?
-Can I somehow break the phone irremediably?
-If so, what should I avoid to prevent it?
-Is a custom recovery necessary, or can I use default Xiaomi's one?
-What's the best recovery?
-If I install recovery via fast boot, do I need to root my device?
-What tools should I look forward to use on linux (Ubuntu)?
Those are my questions for now, if you wanna say anything else that should be taken into consideration, feel free, also if you wanna share some useful guide.
First off a little bit of advice don't ask so many questions no one is likely to answer you because unless the person is really bored and has an hour to spare he will not answer you format your question and ask just a couple of questions that are most vital to what you are doing. Also do some research on your own. Your more out to get some help if someone can see you have put forth a little effort. Cheer's

Ok Here you go..

don't use fastboot.. instead use custom recovery for anything.. wether you're reverting back to MIUI from custom ROM or anything else. Use Fastboot option to Flash recovery only. then your FastBoot will be safe

Yes, you may if you dont follow the set of instruction for performing in Fastboot/Recovery. But dont worry a few research can UNBRICK your phone.

Read Instruction carefully, if going to custom ROM wipe all partition like data, cache, system or you will face bootloop(Phone stuck at bootlogo) also Unlock your bootloader in order to perform all the dirty tasks

For me I was curious to see if this is like the treble ROMs that are out. There are AOSP TREBLE ROMs out that function quite well. One of the advantages is that we have a choice not use Google apps/services with the TREBLE ROMs. Just like the old days. Most of the custom roms out now are loaded with gapps.
There's even AOSP based ROMs with gapps in this section that have a lot more customations.
It's really about choice.
