Hi,
Just got a new Razr i and overall I am very impressed with it so far. It is a great upgrade from my Defy plus.
I have a few questions before I start to look at customising it with unlocked boot loaders and root.
FLASH
One of the main reasons for wanting to customise to get flash working. Can I get this with rooting without unlocking the boot loader?
Does enabling flash work for BBC iplayer etc. Or does it just enable it in the browsers.
ROOT/BOOTLOADER
What extra will I get from going the full hog and unlocking the bootloader rather than just rooting?
CWM
What is required to get CWM on the device?
I have read the guides on rooting etc and I am used to customising ROMs etc but just want to make sure I am on the right track before I commit with the new phone.
Many thanks

You need root to install flash in apps.
For those bad sites which need flash there's at least two browser which support flash on themselves.
You cannot root with firmware update 39 and 40.
So unless u r still on 32 you need to unlock the bootloader.
Weather that's the right thing to u or not depends on you.

Its not an issue but you need to have root to move the files to the right places.
Theres one or two threads in here with a lot of positive results, i saw it via webcam a week ago and it doesnt surprise me.
The thing is that flash is a dead and bad format, dead is the good part.
Thanks for the replies. Going to give it a try next week.

Flash still rocks. Its the monopoly of these getting big giants that they are not keepibg support of flash. It has helped rich media for almost a decade. It can get even better but they want html5. So they can make it their properity. We all have seen the results of html5 app recently and thats facebook for android. Total failed platform. So i am still on ics just because of flash support.

Just got my first successful boot an hour ago and adding stuff every minute
Here's the original ROM posted it has instructions in the actual post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28423783&postcount=67
There were a few bugs in that ROM that were fixed in version two. Version two is located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28865555&postcount=199
With the changelog being:
Included a file manager (needed this badly)
Used the stock Archos Camera app (the CM one has a funky display)
Fixed the bug where the physical sdcard would not mount properly (the internal storage is under /storage and the physical sdcard inserted is now /sdcard)
Fixed where root does not have to have its permissions changed in order to work
Made a few changes to libraries to make it a bit smoother
Added hwcomposer.omap4.so
Fixed error where opening Google Maps would cause a reboot

Cool stuff... may test it on a A80S, if i'll find the time.
Any additional tweaks needed (e.g. change partition layout)?
Regards,
scholbert
Cool!
I also like to test the image =)
Maybe you can release information/hints about how you arranged the image (once it's finished)? I'm asking, because I would like to compile the image by myself.
Is this real?
Would be awsome.

Bye
Awesome ! Waiting for test...
If you want a test on an 80 G9 250Gb hdd, here I am.
me too with Archos 8" 1ghz and 10" 1.5 go 250 go
You would install it the same way you would any of the other ROMs for the G9 series (kernel+ramdisk+an image file called archos.ext4). So far I have wifi and sound working. Other things such as the camera, netflix, and GPS I will work on tonight. I have an Archos G9 80 non-turbo chip (omap4430) so I don't know anything about the differences between the the 4460 turbo with extra RAM and how that will work with this ROM

Count me in as a tester!
This is really cool! I actually tried to get this working as well a while ago, but never managed to get it booting. Did you base it off the pandaboard as well?
I have recently Restored my N1 from an ICS ROM and am back on Gingerbread 2.3.6.
I am wanting to remove some system apps but I cannot for the life of me find out how to root the N1.
Much googling has lead me to dead ends and dead links and I feel I am missing something really obvious that everyone else but me knows.
The guides I have found on rooting all appear to involve custom ROMs which I don't want at the moment.
The bootloader is still unlocked and I know at some point in the past I did have the device rooted on gingerbread but I can't remember how?
try www.unlockroot.com

Yep, that worked
Thanks.
If I may be so bold... what would be the best app to use to actually remove the system apps?
I have used one in the past but found that when I removed anything it would shut off the nexus completely and not actually remove anything.
use titanium backup. it would be safe to hv a backup via a custom recovery, before removing system apps...

I´m in need of big help, i was rooting my device with smart flash tool and it all went well until the phone rebots and appears the message "security error" under the LG logo. What do i do?
Please help, it´s an emergency.
You can see alot of questions here with that security error issue. Just download a kdz of a gb rom and extract it. Then flash with sft

And will that make the phone usable again? Another question, why did that apear? My phone is locked to a company, and the ics rom that i was using was the original but for unlocked phones, it´s that the problem? Do i need to use the rom for the locked phones to be able to root it to ics?
It will. Aslong as you can go to s/w download. I dont get what you just said cause im no expert. i rooted my phone wth stock ics with unlockroot.com . but i have the ku5900.

My phone it´s locked to a company,(like at&t, vodafone, etc etc), and i was using the stock rom from lg (v30b), but for my country that version is only avaliable for unlocked phones, and i was using it.
Then you did something wrong maybe. I had that security error when i tried to flash cwm with ics.

Hi!
That would be pretty nice.
I'm on this version right now: Swype 3.26.92.39062.apk
I really like the hardware of the razr i, but I hate the software.
No mass storage, no "qick unlock without hitting enter after swyping in the password, no overclocking, no themes...
Man, android is so much work in case of a new phone.

4.1.2, the custom room from the Omar.
Gesendet von meinem HTC Desire mit Tapatalk 2
So I checked the system, and there was no .odex but I looked at where the apk originally came from and its from the location system/vendor/app and is named SwypeEMEA.apk so it may possibly work if you rename it to that, and place it in that folder (I'm assuming you are rooted). If that doesn't work (or you don't want to mess around placing files in the system), I don't know what you can do other than install it off the playstore or use RSD to flash an original RAZR I rom with swype on it ... you can find RSD and a load of stock roms on a topic in RAZR I general ... its called RAZR tools for noobs I think. Sorry the backup didn't work

But I think in thread about Omar Avelar's ROM there is somewhere zip file to install swype, because of some pepople wanted it.
Anyone interested in a stock based ROM-Jelly Cream with many ported apps but on the old bootloader.
I have ported this.
Let me know if someone interested in testing this.
I can send the link via PM if you are interested
Thanks
Sorry that I post here but I have a problem/bug in this ROM(newbootloader version). Everytime I receive a text message(sms) I get this error:
" Note: The Application Messaging (process.com.android.mms) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". The good thing is that I receive the message, the bad is that the phone doesn't ring and get always this message. I wiped the cache/sms cache/etc but with the same result.
The second problem is after I flash kowlasky, the kowlasky manager doesn't work properly(the led brightness doesn't work, and the kernel info doesn't appear in phone information, it shows the stock kernel info.
Thanks!
Waiting for pm with the link

Great to know that the fix worked
Also good to see that along with the cm penguin team, we have a stock team too at work
ICS feels newer and newer, day after day with your work, never feels like a 2-year old OS, still going strong.

impossible to get it on old bl.
new bl = more space in system folder for applications. almost all ICS based ROMs can not be on old bl because they take too much size. old bl is too smal in size (MB) mate.

This is not true: if you change the old bl system partition to 512MB any rom available on xda for new bl and converted to old bl can be installed.
Usually CM converted roms work, stock ICS or similar roms (like this one) might have problems related to some converted file but not depending to the size.
