Installed cm7 no signal - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

Install CM7 that I got from this thread ([ROM] CyanogenMod 7.2.4e (Android 2.3.7) [20121230])
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=941346
Everything works nicely other than I have no signal to network.
I'm pretty sure it has to do with the basebands but I am not sure which one I should flash.
I also read that there should be an option in advanced settings that should let me select different basebands, but I cannot seem to find advanced settings.

Just to be clear, do you have a Milestone, right?
The baseband selection should be there somewhere, look for Milestone Settings and/or Advanced Settings in the settings menu.

The baseband settings were under device settings......
I was so keen on finding "advanced settings" I completely looked over device settings.
I fee like such a moron. everything is fine now, phone is working WITH service.
Thanks for trying to help though. Much appreciated.

1 more question. I didn't want to create a new thread for such a small thing.
When I turn on the phone, before the CM7 boot screen I get a "2ndboot kernel restart progress" screen. How do I remove this screen from my phone startup?

Read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1986076
If you delete that file then I think all you will see is a black screen instead so if you don't like it then replace it.

I thought the 2nd boot screen was slowing down my phones start up. I thought it had to load "reset the kernel" first and then load up CM7.
So from reading that post it looks like that splash screen before the CM7 load screen is necessary, and I can only change what that image(broken glass) is?

2ndBoot is necessary to load a custom kernel, as a way around the locked bootloader. Yes, the boot is a bit slower, but the new kernel makes it all worth it - way more stable, better performance, new features (swap) etc. The development for this phone has been nothing short of incredible.

Displaying that image doesn't need mush resources so by deleting it you would't even notice the difference.
If you delete the bootanimation.zip , which is the CM's bootscreen, you can see some speedup, but nothing significant.

Alright. Learned quite a lot from reading this responses and guides. Thanks for everyone's help.

Long Press on 3.0 question

I'm running 3.0, preview 4, and I had a question about the long press. On every video online, the long press on the home screen allows you to go into a screen that has apps on the bottom, and a display of all your home pages on top. In addition, there's a while boarder around each home page (that you can see when you scroll). Not only do I not have the thin white line boarder around the pages, but when I long press, it acts like 2.2 where it gives you a menu for widgets, shortcuts, etc.
What do I need to do to get the long press option everyone else has? Is that launcher pro, or am I just simply overlooking a simple setting?
Thanks everyone.
Nobody knows?
It's a feature of whatever launcher is being used...

Does anyone know the launcher everyone is using then with 3.0 on Nooks? I want to guess it's Launcher Pro Plus, but I don't want to buy it until I know that's what I need.
Thanks for the reply btw.

Sounds like you are describing the stock launcher, which I use. I am not sure if it is different with deeper blues build, if that is what you are running. I am running HC on emmc version 2. I thought the two were basically the same, however.

What's weird is I have the same version as this guy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CEC0fcfbpM
...and yet, I don't have the +apps button on the top right, nor the boxes around each home screen which can be seen when he swipes between them, or the long press widget screen. It almost feels like mine acts more like Froyo with a pretty layer of HC on top. To confirm, mine is Deeper Blue's Preview V04.

Same stock launcher that I have. You may try to reinstall the Rom with a new image.
Do you know good instructions here to download a version of 3.0 that installs internally and that's over clocked but has the launcher shown above? (IE: yours)?
Thanks man.

So, if I read your post correctly, are you saying you now want to go with Honeycomb with an internal build, to the eMMC?
If so, then you need to check out samuelhalff's thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=947071
I have been running that build since it first came out and loving it.
Sam's build will give you the stock launcher you see in the YouTube video you posted earlier. You should have also gotten that with the SD build from deeper-blue, but I have never run that version of HC, so cannot verify with certainty.
If any issues, you can always PM me and I will help you where I can (from a user perspective, not dev).
Good luck!
Quick question. I'm trying to over clock my 3.0 HC system, and in the instructions on Androidtablets.net says I need to find a program called Rom Manager to boot from. Where is this? I can't find it.
EDIT: Ok I'm dumb, it's an app... just trying to get it to install successfully. Thanks for dealing with a noob .
Ok, I'm trying to put clockwork recovery on there (since I didn't understand I needed to do that.. duuuhhrrrrrr). I downloaded the zip file, and put it on my SD card. I booted up Rom Manager, and hit Flash Clockworkmod recover. Then clicked Nook (old). However, it says 'An error occurred when attempting to run privileged commands!'.
Did I miss a step somewhere? Hopefully this is a slightly less embarrassing question . Thanks!

A much more functional market.. and not sure where it went!

Okay, I am confused.. I had installed phiremod miui rom, and wanted to try running cm7.. I did NOT format data, trying to avoid reinstalling most apps(was being lazy), and everything worked fine..
The market looked as it normally does on my phone, the way it does on 2.2+ roms, green, not very nice for a tablet.
Okay, so looking for netflix, and not finding it for the device, I force closed market, wiped data and cache, and fc'd the google framework, wiped data, restarted(a trick to make stock nook color 2.2 see the whole market), restarted..
And the market was different. Black theme. Different layout. Looked like it was tablet optimized. Clicked apps, and it let me pick from editor picks, or scroll the screen left or right, showing me 3 columns of apps listed under free, paid, highest grossing, etc. So many awesome ways of searching for apps, so much nicer.
It was the first TRULY different market I have seen in all my rom-ing days.
I was going to screenshot it and send pics to a buddy(wish I had), but I got sidetracked because cyanogenmod settings weren't working because I didn't wipe the data partition..
I assumed the market was changed with cm7, and I skipped from cm7.0.3 to rc1 on second install, thinking it would come back.. but it hasn't.(Did the same process as before, fc market, wipe, etc, more than once, numerous restarts, everything else I can think of)
So IS it supposed to be different, because I can't find any reference to it no matter how much I google search. It isn't listed as a feature on the miui rom or cm7 rom that I can see, or on any other tablet I can find.
What did I do right/wrong?
I am about to redo the nandroid backup I did when it was like that, and if it is still like that titanium backup the system app, and take screenshots, just in case it is a weird fluke.. but any answers are welcome. I expect it is a feature I was totally unaware of, but if it is, I would like to get it back or enable it somehow..
Sounds like the new market.

Thanks for the quick answer, I am ashamed that all of my searching didn't come up with that, but I never go to that forum.. maybe I should. Restored my backup and took some screenshots for my buddy, but now I am thinking I should delete this thread(since it could have been avoided with better searching).
Here I was all excited, lol.

Strangest thing.... Was on CNA, decided to try ICSSGS, didn't like it as well so flashed back and calendar was there. I assume because I did not wipe on the flash back to CNA?
FWIW, I have tried this, ICSSGS, and CM9. CNA is my favorite. I have had almost no issues. 1 app won't run, but it is from my small, local bank.

That issue is fixed on ICSSGS and maybe others, I'm not certain if it involves some adjustments ROM-side, or it should be fixed by using latest gapps. I previously encountered the issue but haven't seen it in quite some time.
The alternative would be buying them in the browser/pc.

Hi guys,
I'm interested in trying this ROM out.
I'm coming from Serendipity VII, which if I understand correctly is I9000 based. Just to make sure I understand what I'm doing, I should just be able to reboot to recovery, and install the CNA ROM from the zip file, correct? Any other steps necessary?
Thanks

I got it installed (with the Glitch kernel - running at 1.4Ghz so far), and I'm very impressed
The only issue I haven't yet been able to figure out is the external SD card. It seems that it now gets mounted under /mnt/emmc/ ? For whatever reason, the music player can't find the media that I have on the external SD card. Any ideas? I can find it using ES File Explorer and play the files individually.
Privacy
There has been an ever-increasing number of apps which want access to private information (like call logs, location, and contact information) without needing it to run the application. I'm talking about games and not apps which require such information like Anti-virus and such. Will we ever have a permission manager a la MIUI on this ROM? I understand that many developers work in concert, so I am wondering why most ROM's are not created with safeguards in place to protect private information. I am aware that I am not in the MIUI Q&A section, but I feel this is an issue that all ROM's should consider in order to protect private information. I know that I don't have to install apps which ask for this information if I don't want to give up my information, but it seems that every app nowadays asks for these permissions and it would be a shame to continue as if there were nothing wrong with compromising private information to play a game.
Thanks in advance.
I was one if the unlucky ones that had no 3g data after flashing this rom, flashed glitch, moved apn-conf.XML to the /system/etc/ directory overwriting the old file.
This did not bring data back. I decided to look at the apn list and noticed that it was blank. Clicked the menu button, then selected reset to defaults. Ten minutes later I had data.
Lock Screen
Has the lock screen been updated to allow for custom applications where it shows the icon of the custom application instead of that alien looking character? This was one of the reasons I moved away from this ROM and would love to come back. I'm not a fan of having to try to remember which application ties to which alien character.

Not yet. It still shows the animated android.
Nostalgia shows the custom icons on the ICS lock screen. (haven't flashed any other ICS roms yet.)
Update 3/24:
All aosp roms do not show custom icons.
All aokp based roms do show custom icons.
aosp also seems a little laggier than aokp. Playing angry birds space @ 1.3 ghz resulted in click and audio lag. (Gummy charged was my aosp test platform at that time).
Docs runs blazing fast at same speed with no click lag. Aokp m28 clocked at 800 MHz / glitch runs smooth. I think this is because of the scrolling cache which I force disabled in from control.
Thanks for your work bringing ics to captivate.

Sorry but I don't really see how the rotation would be related to the proximity sensor functionalities. I could try that, but I would be more than grateful if you could explain me a little further the relationship between those two.. Anyways I have to download the rom, nandroid backup, and flash everything to test it out.
Thanks for the reply

you are correct, the proximity sensor does not control rotation. a bit a of a flub on my part sorry.
here are some things I tried with my AOKP rom (don't think the AOSP - CNA is too much different?)
1) There is no setting in the call menu for the proximity sensor.
2) However if you cover your sensor (which is broken anyways right?) a dab of black nail polish, to block all the light from it. I covered my sensor with my thumb and the screen stayed on. However if the problem is deeper within your hardware (possibly the control IC for the sensor), it will still lock up when it tries to access the current state of the sensor.
3) It's possible from what I've found that your sensor is okay, and that there is an internal blockage to the sensor cover. (though, my phone didn't lock up with the sensor covered?). Try canned air/ Vacuum to clear the blockage?
4) There are a several application options as none of the ICS roms I've used appear to have that MIUI option.

[HOW TO] - Enable CRT animation in Jelly Bean on the N7

Noticed none of the current builds have the CRT animation enabled, thought I'd share how to turn it on. Please note that it is at times a bit buggy. For me it works about 8 out of 10 times.
What it is:
Note: 1 - This will work on any device and on any version of Android back to GB. (Obviously the Nexus specific tools wont work on anything other than the Nexus)
Note 2 - You will have to redo this every time you update your rom.
Here's the quick rundown -
First, you'll have to pull the framework-res.apk from your tablet.
This can be done via adb, but the easiest way would be to either use WugFresh's Nexus Root Toolkit or mskips Google Nexus 7 TOOLKIT.
When asked what file to pull, type in "/system/framework/framework-res.apk" (without quotes)
Once you have that pulled, install this tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432152
Follow the directions on how to use it in the thread.
Once you have decompiled the apk, you'll want to edit the "files-to-edit\framework-res.apk\res\values\bools.xml" file.
The value you want to change in the bools value is the "<bool name="config_animateScreenLights">true</bool>" change "true" to "false". I reccommend downloading Notepad++ to edit.
Make sure you save it. Once saved, recompile the apk using the tool you install, then create an update zip (I renamed mine to crtanimation.zip for ease).
Reboot into recovery, flash the zip, clear cache, reboot.
Tada!

They most likely don't know what CRT animation is, NOT why they might want to make changes to the system.
Nothing in the OP provides a hint as to what that is or what it does. To be honest, I'm not sure I know what it is. A quick search shows that it is enabled in a lot of ROMs but not what it actually is or does.

Okay... I get it... It enables animation effects when turning the device off, rather than just blanking the screen.
I get the same effect turning on and off with
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.soulfulz.android.turnoffscreen
You can select from a number of effects, sounds for both when the device is turned on and off via the button. You have to hit the button for it to do it, but for the risk of modifying system files, this is easy and safe to do.

Except your solution is wakelock city on top of having to enable it as a device administrator. Sounds like you also have to hit the shortcut or use the app itself to get the desired effect versus it being naturally accomplished when hitting the power button/screen timeout. And if it doesn't work in ICS, not sure it will work on JB.

I asked the question "Why" because it seems a lot of trouble just to see your device (N7, in this case) turn off. I've done a great deal of modding to my ICS devices, but haven't really found much reason to mod a JB device. I know there are tons of boot animations which make your device really different when turned on, but having CRT just for turning off your device seems a waste of time.
Of course, this is only my opinion and I'm glad you figured out how to do this, but I still don't understand why!

[Q] 3dot menu - how to remove?

Hi guys!
I've been looking arround the forum, but can't seem to find anything useful...
I just flashed the newest 10.1 ARHD, up from 9.4. When I was on 9.4 I used a rom for removing the 3dot menu, and adding longpress backbtn2menu. I know that in ARHD 10.1 you get 4.2.2, which by default makes longpress homebtn, the new menubtn... HOWEVER the god damn 3dot menu is still there, and its killing me. I've tried flashing the same mod I had on 9.4, and 2 other mods that are supposed to do the same, but every time it ends up freezing my phone right after bootlogo, and I end up having to reflash ARHD...
one of the reasons I flashed a custom ROM was to remove that stupid 3dot crap... anybody care to tell me how to remove the 3 dots? Is it even possible on 4.2.2/ARHD 10.1? Shouldn't it be removed by stock, when they've added a god damn function for acsessing the menu?!?
Frustrated...
I'm sure if you search the ARHD thread you'll find the answer. The option is in the settings menu somewhere.
I know that you can activate it, and i've read the thread, but on my device it doesnt show up! And I've reflashed full now, for the 2nd time, and still nothing...

Did you select the button mod option when you flashed? It's been a few days since I installed so I can't remember what it was called exactly, but there was an option to enable it in Aroma. After that, it's just a matter of selecting the option in Settings under Display and buttons.

Yes, I did. And I chose he mod both in Aroma and in the settings. HOWEVER I have got it to work! reflashed the rom from stock, and now it works
Have found another "problem" though... ARHD doesnt come with the battery percentage mod anymore, since it is implemented in 4.2.2 and Sense now... but the stock percentage-shower is by displaying it on the SIDE of the battery icon, instead of on top... and I can't seem to find a working mod for 4.2.2 that wills how me battery percentage on top of the battery icon... any ideas?
Trickdroid 7 rom has plenty of different battery tweaks, including with percentage inside the battery

There is a separate battery percentage mod floating around. Someone posted it in the ARHD thread this morning. I haven't flashed it yet but supposedly it works.

What? I've been searching through there and reading like 69696954498 pages, but can't find anything about a working mod? Except Modaco, but I don't need anything other than the batterypercentage, and Modaco gives you like 75 different mods

I was looking very hard, the feature did not work As I said above your comment, I got it working after a couple of tries and a clean flash
Would very much appreciate if you don't come to my threads and be a "smart ass" Thank you!

Thanks man!
I got it flashed and it works, but holy cow, in my eyes, it's ugly as hell It makes all my icons blue, and for some reason it also makes them bigger Thanks alot for helping me out though
