(OTG)(ROOTED)Webcam to Nexus 7 - Nexus 7 General

Hey guys
first before anything I did not make any of this!
its not mine, many are asking here, no answer, i found this online...
All credits go to
DROIDPERCEPTION
http://droidperception.wordpress.com/2012/11/27/webcam-attached-to-nexus-7/
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rewrite by me!!!
What you need.
1. Rooted Nexus 7 with SuperUser
2.OTG cable
3. a webcam (Not all supported)
4. Simple Webcam App, (not available market)
5. Android Terminal.
Steps!!!
1. Install the Simple Webcam app
http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...ownload apk)&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13578221250933
2. Plug Webcam in OTG cable to Nexus 7
3. Open Android Terminal
4. Type this
Code:
su
After typing SU, grant permission
then type
Code:
ls -l /dev/video0
After that this thing should come up
"crw-rw---- media camera 81, 0 2013-01-10 20:38 video0"
if that came up, your webcam is compatible, if not, check spelling or replug OTG cable,
5. type
Code:
chmod 666 /dev/video0
6. After you type that in, open the Simple Webcam app,
and you should see through the webcam...
Tried with Nexus 7 32GB Wifi,,
I think it should work with any device with micro USB...
When you plug out the webcam, you have to redo the while process...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE
it seems that Droidperception Updated the method...
Now its just as simple as plugging your webcam through OTG cable and Installing this app
https://s3.amazonaws.com/droidperception.wordpress.com/simplewebcam_fork.apk
Rooted Users Only, access to root required...

Holy Crap.......
I was just thinking last night.... "Wonder if a USB webcam could commuicate with my N7?" I tried the stock/rooted 4.2 and saw nothing, but when booting to Ubuntu, I was able to access the camera via "Cheese"
Thanks for sharing the Android app.

Thankyou, it works with my Microsoft LifeCam Cinema HD Webcam

and Android Terminal Emulator as Android Terminal

Sweet, it works!
Now, how to get the camera application to see the web cam for video and stills.....
PS looks like there is an update at droidperception.

Lost regular camera access
This process worked for me, however, I can no longer access my regular camera (built-in). Any thoughts how to get my camera back? I rebooted the device with no luck.

i got the app to work how do i use it to snap pics or use in skype (if possible)?

Tried a PS3 Eye and a MS Xbox Live Vision camera and neither worked.

Using a imexx 12mp webcam
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD

I would love to use this in a car install with Face Unlock.

This works with a Logitech 1080p HD webcam. Now if only it can be used in other apps instead of the front facing camera.

Non-rooted too
The droidperception fork of the neuralassembly SimpleWebCam with also work on a non-rooted original N7 if user permission CAMERA is added to the manifest. The C lib will need to get rolled back to not use the su command. (copy the lib folder from an older version is the easiest way). Does mirror, flip and snapshot.

did anyone managed to get this working on android 4.4???
thx

Hello,
I am trying to get my Logitech Webcam to work with my N7 rooted stock ROM 4.4.2. So far, I have utilized the information from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2092216
I did everything correctly through Terminal inputting the text show from the thread I linked, which is:
su
ls -l /dev/video0
chmod 666 /dev/video0
Opened up SimpleWebCam, and the app says my camera is not supported. I am using a Logitech HD Pro Webcam C910, and that webcam has been verified to be working properly.
I did a bit of research and found that DashCam would also solve my problem. I installed the DashCam app and the app still does not recognize my webcam.
Is 4.4.2 just giving everyone problems with this stuff? I'm not sure what else I can do or should be doing. Help?!
Thanks! =)

I am currently working on a version of my GrooveMobile for WP7.1, supporting background listening.
Due to I have no phone for testing, is there anyone who likes to test the current state of the application? You will need an "open" phone, because this app may only find its way to the market if it is nearly bugfree.

Just interested in, how stable it is, especially how fluid the stream is.
It will cache all songs you have played in the Apps Internal Storage.

Same problem here, on my Trophy...
On the emulator it runs completely fine though.
Edit: Is it possible the crash occuring because our phones have OS version 7.0 and not 7.1 ?
I know the problem its for 7.1
Hi Scilor, nice to see you developing for WP7
I am have a HD2 running NoDo and it fails to load also
Its for wp7.1 maybe thats the problem.

i guess its programmed with sdk 7.1 which are the mango beta tools
so actually its for wp7.5
keep up the good work.
but keep in mind, i think musicshark got deleted of marketplace because it didnt had a licence to access the grooveshark libary
the xap was available for quite some time but now it not workin anymore
One thing I noticed when playing around with this in the mango emulator: if you start a song and go back to home (so background music is playing), selecting the program again opens a new instance and the old instance keeps playing the music
Now that Mango's out for devs, we'll be able to test your app
Will try to install it as soon as get Mango
It doesn't seems to work with the last WP7.1 tools.
Doesn't work on my Omnia with Mango. When I tap a song it crasheds
And on the emulator of the beta 2 SDK, keeps loading then crashes :/
I think its due to I have built it with the Beta 1 SDK. I will rebuild it with the Beta 2 SDK soon.

I also suggest to include a Exception Popup, which displays the Exception (and maybe an additional button to send the exception to you via email). I could send you a sample how it's achieved if you want.
greets toolsche
Can't wait for further development as I used your old app. Seems to crash upon trying to play a song. Sign in and such will be nice! Thanks a lot!
Similar experience on my mango phone, crashes when selecting a song. Looking forward to this app!
I asked access to the API on their website. But they said no because they are working on a WP7 app. Can I use their API by other way ?

[Tool] Fix Test Mode

[METHOD 1]
After flashing a fresh tot back to your device, you should have factory reset the device. This will get you out of test mode.
[METHOD 2]
So you have a ton of data and don't want to factory reset. Then use this tool.
This is a screenshot of a good run..

this is reserved for my marriage proposal to you if this works
It works i've done it 100 + time's lol
Tool is live, it only works for the VS910 software. Please DO NOT attempt to use it on just any phones.
If you use this tool can you please leave feed back thanks.
Fixed! It was amazingly fast, and I am now out of test mode! I can mount usb to my computer now, and the long-press # menu is gone. Woohoo!!
wow
that was very quick...how long did u have this up your sleeves? you pretty muched saved me from getting another phone because i wire tether alot and test mode prevented me from ever connecting to the computer
I've known sense day one haha sad I know but I dont really visit the revolution forum. The whole reason I did was from the front page.
Please post with your results. There have been well over 100 downloads and it would be great if at lest 10% of you posted your results for others to see.
Any issues your having etc this way I can start seeing the success rate thanks.

Oh. MY. GOD.
It really works!!
My girlfriend's phone was always stuck in test mode even if i flash new tot.
Thank you so much!! You are my hero!
Thanks for your feedback. The more people who leave feed back the better. This way we can see if its working across all phones. I'm 100% sure it should but you never know.
No luck for me. I tried it on windows XP (with .NET framework 4 installed) and the program just crashes every time I try to run it. The microsoft "send error report" dialog appears but the application never starts up all the way.
Are there any other prerequisites other than .NET 4?
I'm an idiot and built with client profile. So install dotNet 4 Client version.
The new version is dotnet 3.5 none client and will support MS910 Esteem from MetroPCS
The only issue is the report of who needed this came from androidforums and sense i'm not a fan of them for banning me for misleading staff.. I'm not sure i'm going to post it just yet. I really only want this for xda members and might have to come up with a method that will require them to be an XDA member.
I did just try this again on windows 7 (not my computer so I'm unsure about the software on it) and it worked perfectly! I'm now out of test mode! Thanks!
Great thanks.
Mannn121, doesn't have a enough post count but was very nice to pm about his success as well. Seems like a very good success rate so far.
wolfpack99, doesn't have enough post count but reported success thanks again guys.

Works for the LG MS910, used it multiple times for customers! Your a life saver!!! extremely simple
is the link down?
I did notice one negative side effect... either that or I've forgotten the sequence to enter that "hidden menu".
Entering ##lgservicemenu doesn't seem to work anymore after running the fix... It's not a big deal but worth mentioning...
Is there another way to access it?
I'm having a problem. After about 100 times of reconnecting the usb cord, I finally get the computer to recognize the ports in device manager and reveal which one is the revo, when I open the program, it quickly states in red that my phone isn't a revo and auto closes....any ideas?

ChromeCast Linux + hacking

Hi all,
I'm going to start hacking on the ChromeCast... to boot or run a tiny Linux distro, and also to run homebrew apps without the necessity of the whitelisting process, etc. I'll be keeping a log of my work at chromecastdev.com. Collaboration is welcome.
The first thing I'm going to play with is trying to dump the bootloader (resides in the little NAND on the Marvell SOC?).

I wish you luck in your conquest!
Hopefully developers on this forum can do some cool stuff with Chromecast!
Port it to Raspberry Pi. *fingers crossed*
Wait, it's an enclosed system, how do you plan to snoop it?
Ethernet over HDMI or the USB port could provide a path. Also there is a header inside it looks like that isn't listed as a spec so it could be a serial/JTAG point. High hopes for this getting hacked and running an XBMC or Plex client, although I guess Plex web might be fine.

I don't know if you've already found it, but there are various source files available here. Bootloader sources are in the "sdk" repo. A cursory glance at them makes it seem like you can boot from a USB device by holding down the button on boot, but the image needs to be signed by Google.
any chance you can take some high-res photos of the pcb? The marvell chip isn't listed on the marvell website yet, would be great if we could find a block diagram.
I would sink porting Android would be the best step right now as this is an android forum and is younger brother ran android
Just my opinion.

Thanks tchebb!!! And here I thought I was finally going to have a reason to play with a logic analyzer to try to dump the bootloader off the bus.
Edit: Well, maybe it's not that simple after all. They didn't include everything... for instance, pin_settings.h is missing.

Yeah, the source doesn't seem to be in a buildable state. I was thinking there might be something like an Android repo manifest.xml to bring all those git repos together into one source tree, but I couldn't find anything like that. Also, like you said, there are lots of missing files referenced in the build scripts.
I found the link to the source after downloading the Chromecast app (my device hasn't arrived yet) and letting it scan and fail to find anything. It directed me here, which has the Google Code link in the "What's Under the Hood?" entry.
The other interesting documentation I found is here, specifically the part about pressing "Apps" seven times to enable developer mode (very reminiscent of dev mode on new Android versions). It's unclear whether that just exposes additional info in the desktop app or actually sends a packet to the Chromecast to enable some sort of on-device dev mode.
Once I get mine, the first thing I want to do is get a full packet capture of the setup and update process, and some sample network traffic generated by normal use.

The only thing that works for me is starting a youtube video from the Android youtube app.
No controls yet, it is not implemented.
Tab casting from Chrome spawns an empty chrome window.
Other Chromecast apps (Play Music) do not detect leapcast yet, or more precisely detects it but do not show the cast button.

[Q] Screen busted, need to recover baby pictures

Someone please help. Phone screen is busted and i need to recover pictures from the phone. It wasn't backed up and adb is not enable, neither is bootlader. Am i screwed?
Are you using twrp? Does adb work for you in twrp? If so you can just use adb pull /location/of/DCIM and pull them.
If your phone isn't secure it should show up on PC, at least I think so. Can you tell if its powering on?
Its powering on. No custom recover. Swipe pattern for lock
If its powering on you should be able to plug it into your computer and pull the pics from the dcim folder. Optionally, if it turns on, fastboot install twrp from bootloader, then use adb to pull the dcim folder as suggested by R4INS. If it turns on you're definitely NOT screwed
So i can use fastboot even though i didnt enable usb debugging? And doesn't the computer not lwt you connect unless u add it as a trusted device on the phone. I would have to enter the swipe pattern, which i cannot currently do
U not screwed friend.
First - did u setup back up of picture to google server? If yes , u can access them from website.
Second - you can buy OTG cable and connect your PC mouse and you will have access to your phone

odd should have been private by default. but thats in the past now. outside of getting a replacement screen or trying the mouse solution and trying some guess work on doing the swipe pattern, not sure what else that can be done. Sorry to hear about your situation

Screen replacements are 250 and have to ordered. Sprint won't even torch the phone. The misses is poised because we just had a newborn and ask the photos were in the phone . Called phone drs and they said it will be about a week for a screen because no one keeps it in stock. Lol damn... screwed.
Is there a program that i can use that will cast the phones screen over to the computer that way i can controll it from there? If i find a app on the market place, i can just sign in on line to my account and send the download to the phone from the play store. Any ideas?

Wifi usb tethering still blocked (tried a bunch of suggested solutions) [root]

I have a rooted unlocked (originally t-mobile) note 4, using it in Spain, the android version is 6.0.1. The Spanish carriers allow wifi usb tethering, previously I had a note 1 with android 4.4 and there was no issue with usb tethering the wifi connection of the phone to any laptop. Now when I try to do the same a popup tells me
Attention
Wi-fi is turned off when usb tethering or mobile hotspot is active.
To turn on wi-fi please turn off usb tethering or mobile hotspot.

So I can only usb tether the mobile data connection not the wifi. I've read somewhere that I should be doing this in adb shell (as root):
settings put global tether_dun_required 0
settings put system tether_entitlement_check_state 0

But they didn't help, still the same popup tells me that I can't tether the wifi connection.
Since the phone is rooted I guess I should be able to disable the popup somehow (or do anything I like ), any tips on how to go about this?

You might be able to get it done with this app. DBEditor.apk
You can use it to modify a bunch of the database (and totally wreck your phone if you're not careful). It just needs to be installed as a system app in this location /system/priv-app/ and set permission to 0644. You don't need to create a folder for it. I'll also upload a zip to flash if the manual method is not something you're used to and you could do that instead. View attachment DBEditor_system-install.zip
When you first start the app up it will ask for root and then it takes a couple minutes before it's fully populated. Sometimes you'll need to close it and reopen it but just when the app is first loaded.
I saw one of the settings you mentioned but not both. Maybe it's labeled slightly different, but at least this will make it easier to possibly hunt it down.

How will this help relative to manually setting the db values like I did before?

I was thinking you could check and see if there's a setting that your missing. That app will list them all for you so you can look through them to check and trial and error would be easier as well I think. It looks like the <system tether_entitlement_check_state > doesn't exist in my database, maybe it does in yours, but if not you could use this to see if something else seems relevant.
I've not used usb tethering or tried to figure out but I just thought this might help figure out the issue if you don't get a better answer.
I've checked and these are the settings I have which might be related:

tether_dun_required=1

Any ideas which might be relevant?
Just to be sure, it's not the carrier blocking wifi usb tethering but the OS on the phone itself so I'm absolutely sure that it's possible to allow it somehow.
Quick follow-up: I added
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true

to /system/build.prop and still the popup tells me wifi will be turned off if I use usb tethering. I've in another thread that this is supposed to solve the problem but not for me.
One more thing: is there a way to figure out which process is responsible for the blocking popup? That would be helpful to know in order to investigate further.
