The tittle says it all I guess... If I install apps to test them and delete them, do they leave stuff behind and can eventually make the device unstable?
No. They only leave stuff saved in media library.
thank you!

I'm not sure what this file is, but it's in my Windows directory and it's taking up all of my internal storage space. Ever since it appeared, my phone has began constantly giving me low storage notifications and won't let me use any communication functions (SMS or phone). Attempts to delete it give me sharing violations and so it won't let me.

Still pretty confused...
Is there a way to delete it? Or compress it? I need to do something, because my phone is pretty much useless, right now.
Okay, I can apparently rename it anything I want. This isn't really something you can do to something that gives you a sharing violation when you try to delete it. Perhaps this is some malicious file that is disguised as something normal?
... from /system/app
Which of them would save me some resources (assuming I don't care about the built-in nook functionality), and which of them would make things go kablooey?

Why do you think they would save you resources?
Plus I think you might want to avoid doing that until there is a full ROM and Recovery, if you screw up /system I think you're hosed.
Without recovery it is possible to brick the NC by deleting stuff as previously stated.
I did try some cautious renaming of B&N stuff with the end result that while the NC worked, it showed as not registered and this made it a bit difficult to de-register and reset...
And not only did the B&N stuff not work (since it wasn't registered!) there were a few other glitches as well.
As a note from my earlier Android experiments: if you do want to try getting rid of something, don't delete it! Renaming it is just as effective and has the added plus of being easily restored AS LONG AS THE THING STILL WORKS AT ALL.
I usually append .bak to things like text messaging, facebook and twitter since I don't use or want them.
/system can be recovered regardless of changes to the file-system as long as you don't play around with the factory fallback stuff which is on a different partition completely. The minute you start messing with that all bets are off.
The /system partition will be restored if the device doesn't boot 8 consecutive times.
Well, so far I've deleted the library, the shop, the built-in app launcher and a few other items with no ill effects (other than, you know, not having the library and the shop). I got rid of one that looked a little borderline scary -- but I'm being a little reckless here and didn't note the name. Maybe a BN specific applicationservice apk?I think that's why selecting settings from the B&N bottom notification bar doesn't work anymore (but selecting settings from within Zeam gets me there). Got rid of the home apk.
I know, I could play it a lot safer just renaming these things. But I'm living on the edge (besides, I could always get back to a stock system setup if I screw things up badly enough to force the 8 reboots).
I'll soon look at this a little more methodically and see if there are any B&N-related services running that I don't think I'd really need ... then go for them too. After all, just deleting things that may or may not be running from boot ... it's a fun reckless experiment, but it doesn't necessarily save any resources (other than space in system).
If you manage it I would be interested in knowing about it- especially if the Nook for Android app can be installed and actually work, afterwards!
That had been my goal when messing with it.
Methinks I found one too many packages that had "bn" in the name for my own good. lol
So maybe it's just me, but I've been taken off guard by the wipe features on the HTC One clearing /sdcard along with the usual user data a few times. It's a bit of a struggle to find your "happy place" after remembering a couple minutes too late that the bootloader unlock actually erases the media storage too...so much for that nandroid backup you made just in case
Luckily, these phones come with all sorts of backup options right out of the box - but these (DropBox image backup specifically) have a few "quirks" that don't really work in our favor. One that especially ground my gears was the fact that dropbox doesn't play nice with the ZOE's filename-based groupings. So now those 12 ZOE shots you had now show up as 252 individual files. Neat.
So, since I'm overall a very lazy person it's safe to assume I had little to no interest in manually renaming each and every one of these files to make my Zoe collections work again. Ain't nobody got time for that. That's exactly what I made this tool to do for me, because hastily writing a few lines of code sounded way more appealing than fixing all those files just hitting the delete key.
Now, I can't reiterate enough that I'm really lazy. That being said, this tool is poorly written. I even decided that it was easier to simply disable the ability to minimize it rather than bother messing with a crash bug related to that option. Don't worry though, there's still plenty of ways to make this program crash horribly.
So without further ado: I made a thingy, and I'm sharing this thingy that I made with you. In case you're stupid about backing up your media storage, like me.
DISCLAIMER: I AM AN AWFUL PROGRAMMER AND I PUT VERY LITTLE TIME OR EFFORT INTO THIS. I ALSO MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE COAUTHORED THIS WORK IN PARTNERSHIP WITH A BOTTLE OF VODKA. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK, MAKE BACKUPS, AND GENERALLY JUST BE READY FOR DISAPPOINTMENT. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THIS APPLICATION MAY OR MAY NOT DO.
Using this app is pretty simple.
1) Copy your defiled Zoe images to a new folder (I can't promise you that this thing won't screw up, so make sure to work with COPIES of the files!). I didn't trust this with my original backups and neither should you!
2) Open the application and choose the directory that you copied the files to.
3) All the JPG files in that folder will be listed in the upper list, these may or may not be in correct order because the backup function doesn't even name them in a way that always sorts correctly. Focus on one Zoe at a time and use the arrows to put the files from that set in the correct order.
4) Use Ctrl/Shift+Click to select all 20 images from that Zoe's set.
5) Once you've selected 20, the app will try to guess which MP4 file to choose in the box below. This feature is super basic, make sure to double check that it has selected the correct file, correct this selection as necessary.
6) Look in your phone's /DCIM/100media folder to see how high the file numbering goes for the images on your phone. There's a box on the application bottom-right to fill in a number. Type in a number that is NOT already associated with another image on your phone.
7) If everything is selected correctly, the "Rebuild my ZOE" button should become usable. Click it. It should (hopefully) tell you that it has finished working on the selected files.
8) Move the newly renamed IMAGXXXX_ZOEXXX files back onto your phone's internal storage.
9) Rinse and repeat until all your files are renamed appropriately to be recognized as ZOEs.
PS - This application was was written in VB2012 using the .net framework 4.5, if you get errors starting it, make sure you have this framework installed. Source code is available upon request if anyone actually wants to put time into making this suck less, but for me it's "good enough".
Looks very handy.. Thanks

Sorry... That little section made me choke! lol You're a funny guy. I can see this being a useful tool though.
Finding this made my day. Thanks man.
Thanks for this, huge time saver! The little preview is a plus to help weed out any accidental inclusions.
I'm glad you guys found this useful
I'm twice as glad that HTC changed the way the Zoes are saved in the new software release :good:
Hello when you delete apps on android does it leave "traces" on the phone even after uninstalling? For example, empty folders, directories, etc... I'm quite OCD about these things and feel "cluttered" not knowing. Any information about this would be appreciated.
Also, if even after deleting the app there are traces leftover, are there any apps to "scan" and "clean" these leftover files?
Thank you.
Sent from my SM-N910T3 using XDA Forums Pro.
It can happen, and I'm ocd about it too. SD maid has a "corpse finder" function to clean up incomplete uninstalls, and I also periodically plug my phone into my computer and sort the folders by date modified and just manually delete any ghost data left over.

Is the built in anti virus on the P9 sufficient or is it advisable to download another one.
Any advice please.?
1. There are no viruses on Android
2. Most of apps that call them self anitivirus are nothing more but crap that beside sucking memory and battery do nothing
3. Most of problems that people call "virus" is nothing more but some crappy made app that mess up phone performance or download few other crappy apps in background like lockscreen or cleaner.
4. Build in antivirus on Huawei is just icon that do nothing... because it dont have anything to do, BECAUSE look at point 1.
Im using android for almost... forever of it existing, I was rooting and giving free access to all apps i could, I once did test and clicked all ads and installed all shady apps I could find, give them root access... and beside few more crappy apps that they downloaded in background... NOTHING.
Even my router logs didnt show any weird data that was send/recived in phone.
All you can get on your phone is viruses that are made for PC, that will transfer them self to it when you connect it to PC, this is only example that I know that someone had related to "viruses", but it was not even made for android...
All you need to do, to keep your device in good shape and safe, is to keep it clean, use build in cleaner that is good for removing trash files, and keeping an eye on permissions of apps, if app dont need internet access or contact list, remove that permission.
Simple as that...
This is pretty much it. Don't be the user that installs 5 cleaning apps / anti-viruses and wonder why the phone is so slow. I see users every week that slow their phone down with this stuff.
