So i am using topogiris ics Rom but i have 2 major problems , the battery drops really fast ( 8 hours without any serious use ) and its really laggy ..
i cant use the phone properly anymore , so my question is ... From your experiences which rom should i use ? i dont care if it is gb , ics or jb , i only want the phone to be fast and bug free ... I've got a tablet and now i use the phone only for facebook , camera and calls nothing else so i want a simple and fast rom ...

With DjangoManouche ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038631 ) i get about 10 hours batterylife, with light use, the rom is very smooth though.
You don't care if it's gb and it has to be bugfree well obvious!
CM7 or customg gb from stefan or carburano
Sent from my LG-P990 using xda app-developers app
My options would be, a CM7 ROM, Stock ICS from LG (i warn you, it looks like crap) or Djang Manouche.
Hope it helps!
I am using Raums's 4.2.1 Rom for daily use....
Its pretty smooth and has a good battery backup(I easily get 10+ hours with wifi turned off)
CM10 on ics

I use CM10 by pengus on new boot loader, it is perfectly stable.
I take it off charge at 6 in the morning check emails and new and use it through work for texting and watching the forums it will consume about 10% of the battery when i get home at 4.
It is soo smooth still makes people drool with the compositing. Especially those stuck with ics.
You can also flash the lg camera from ics to have great photos including wide screen, and videos that dont auto focus every 30 seconds.

I use CM10 from Pengus77 as well. Great rom, smoothest and fastest I tried so far and I haven't found any bugs yet! About the battery life I san't say too much, I just flashed it yesterday but without wifi it consumed 2% battery overnight:good: when in use it consumes just at much as the stock rom i think.
Camera isn't included so you got to download it from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2091599
And here is the link to the rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2058231

Hi guys, I've flashed MIUI 5.2 yesterday and I didn't have time to play around with it. But I've noticed today that even when left idle, the battery drops from 100 to 84 in about 2 hours or so. All the other services are off except 3g. Plus when I fiddle around with it, the battery drop is even more noticeable. I went from darky 10.1-Miui5.2, just fyi with the default kernels on the miui page. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Miui is to heavy
If u want longer life then Miui aint for u.
Miui is by far the best rom for galaxy s ever if u like to be able to change every aspect of ur phone but the more a rom can do the more juice it takes.
If u want more life and less tweakeblity then u need to use pony roms like darky or ultimate aso.
Edit : Miui bat life is slowly increased by each release (5.2 is way better then 4.1)
Yeah I've noticed that. I switched back to Darky, happy to see 16hours of battery life again. But I wouldn't hesitate to go back to miui in the future though, provided the battery life increases. Or at least until juicedefender has some effect on it

flashing from stock to MIUI is a painful process and it reflects on the phone too !!
after such a vigorous beating from ODIN and Recovery flashing, the phones battery needs time to settle,
Do the battery calibration a few times, generally the battery will settle after a week, Until then its hard to judge battery life, albeit it is definitely less than a stock ROM, But some MIUI users report 1 day, some report short of 3 days..
so dont give up just yet

wow 3 days? imma try it again then, right after my battery finishes charging. what kernel do you think is the most ideal one to use? i live in the uk
Edit: I saw a guy getting 14% loss after 12 hours using JXJV6. Isn't JXJV6 a modem for the middle east? Is it possible for me to use it here in the uk?

im not sure about that modem, but i dont see why it wont work, i use at the moment ZSJV5 - i am in the uk too, that modem works fine for me .
As for the kernel, the latest Glitch V10 is good enough, you could also maybe undervolt and underclock just a little, this would increase battery life too.
but 2 -3 full cycle charges really makes a huge difference.
Awesome, I'll try that soon. Mind sharing the link for ZSJV5? And the app for undervolt and underclocking?
Edit: It seems that I have the insufficient storage space bug, I've read the faqs,
1.3 Apps not installing - Not enough memory message pop up (Known bug for CM7/MIUI)
1. (Using root explorer or any equivalent app) Delete folder /data/data
2. Copy "folder" /datadata to /data/
3. Change name of folder /data/datadata to /data/data/
But it still doesnt work. If I reboot, I have to go through the setup wizard again, and rootexplorer will be uninstalled. Any idea how to fix this as well?
I´ve noticed a few bugs, problems in this new version of ICS. If anyone knows how to solve them I would appreciate your advice
So, here is what´s bugging me:
1. Screen sometimes go greenish for a second or two when there is a lot of apps running and when I quickly turn off and turn on the screen (it happens when the screen goes on, that moment)
2. Overclocking seems very unstable!! ..when I OC my phone (with NStools) and do some things..after a while, it freezes and reboots. On RC3.1 version I could overclock to 1.46GHz and play games and it was very stable!
(I think they changed voltage and because of that it´s unstable, but I´m not sure)
3. When system reboots (after crash), it reboots in clock work mode -.-" ..why can´t it reboot normally, into system?
4. It´s not really a problem but, does anyone know how to remove unnecessary home screens or add them back? Is it possible?
5. .apk files can´t be sent trough bluetooth .. (message: This Bluetooth device or computer cannot process files of this type. )
Other than that I would say this version is almost perfect, flash works in browser, effects in camera, USB mass storage ..works very well.
I was on Doc´s ICS teamhackungs based rom before this one (and after RC3.1 )..and I noticed that battery life was terrible even with juice saver apps running.
I hope this one is better.
Actually RC4 has been pulled because of a Wifi issue
I flashed it last night before it was pulled, I flashed over Onecosmics 2.11 no wipe, and my wifi its working normal.

It is a great rom, I hope they can fix those minor issues.
Battery life for me has been just OK on 2.11, I have to give RC4 the 3 charge cycles before any judgement.
I've just noticed that battery life was reduced constantly in last 3 days, now battery doesn't last 12 hours, but it's the first time that happens!

Yes, so did I ..just before they pulled I downloaded the rom...I was on Doc´s ICS..but I flashed with Odin JVT 2.3.5. GB ..rooted with CF-root and then in CWM flashed RC4 ..my wi-fi was having problems but when I updated WiFix manager it was ok then.
Yea, I couldn´t agree more, if they fix those issues it could be it..the final version (without any bugs). Lets hope they do it soon so we don´t have to wait too long
btw. I was thinking, could we solve these or at least some this issues by flashing another kernel??
@Giuku :I´ve noticed that too..even though I´m not OC now it still drains a lot..or my battery become weak (It´s 1year old) . But that is not without a reason..I did put her to her limits (and my phone) by playing games so much that my smartphone reached max temperature of 60°C and then cooling it in 1min to 30°C and less.
I am using this ROM at the moment as daily driver.
[STOCKICS][NEW BL NEW LAYOUT][CWM 6] Link to Stefans V28G 2nd Gen Excellent ROM
But as we all know the thread is now closed, and we cannot discuss this Good (nearly) Bugless ICS ROM by Stefan. The thread is going down rapidly and very soon people may ignore it. But I think this NVFLASH rom is not ignorable.
Of course there is no improvement is available from him after he left, but I thought we can share this link with other members who may wanna try this V28G 2nd Gen NVFlash Rom and discuss about it. May be some patches by other devs will make it more practically useable.
One mote useful link by his is here ... [Offering] CWM 6 recovery for Stock ICS with new bootloader [new: v28G based] could be useful for some.
NOTE: On this rom I am using Homero2's RIL1109 V28G MOD. Working good.
Requesting all to discuss this rom.
Moderators, please advice if this post can stay as per the rules, as the main rom thread is closed.
I use the rom since it was out, and it is very good for me. BUT my standby battery consumption is too high (10% in 8h without wifi, data connection etc). Except this, it's a great ICS feeling.

Its really a good rom.
Do you mean your battery comes down from 100% to 10% (90% drain) in 8 hours? Strange. Mine works great. I get only 30% drain in 8 hours overnight with all automatically switch off by SMART PROFILE (Free) app. My device goes on silent profile mode, switches off wifi, bt, gps, data at 11:45PM and again comes back General Profile mode in the morning at 7:30AM without switching on anything. I switch on things only when necessary. I really get good sleep without any disturbance This app works perfectly since a year on my all roms and gives 100% perfect result and battery lasts longer. 100% is enough for me for whole day (24+ hours). Yes I do voice calls around an hour in a day, other than some moderate use of music, video, camera, etc.
Yes I also have fixed habit of Advanced Task Killer (Free) which kills background apps every 30 minutes in CRAZY mode for all 24 hours a day and keeps saving hell lot of a battery.
These two apps are first thing I do to any rom. Try this and feedback. I dont need to blame roms when I have some tweaks like above to try!
EDIT: Screenshot added with exact 50% juice remaining after 14 hours. forgot to mention I use Stereo BT (Sony MW600) most of the time connected to device.
This is better suited in the General section, since there won't be any real development going on, just discussions of a "dead unsupported" ROM.

Kind of agree, but I'm this tread deserves attention even though Stefan left xda. I mean, the provided files by Stefan are being used as baserom for follow ups nd roms should be posted in dev section, unless it's a rom eg changed boot animation and ring tones I think, keep this alive, what Stefan did with 28e/g are what made us be where we are, running difference ics leaks.. So, to hail Stefan I think roms based on 28e/g with minor changes should be linked here why criticise Stefan when we have hundreds or thousands off topic meaningless post every day which don't gets erased

You shure you don't have any app installed that is SUCKING the battery BIG TIME when it's in standby???
I have the same 2nd Gen rom from steffan, since the day it was released by him, and my p990 is clean as new (zero programs installed after flashing (i lie, i was forgetting that i installed Endomondo)), and my battery barelly gets drained during night (generally 2-4% max), and using the mobile lightly (like 5 or 6, five minutes calls per day, and turning data and 3g on two or three times a day to check my email, and take a look here @ xda to see if there's any news that is worth it) i get generally 2 days (more accuratelly, 42 to 46 hours) with a full charge...
Something in your phone should be draining the battery, as from my experience with the rom, it his the best rom i ever have used in battery life...
P.S: I forget to mention, i'm also using v28g baseband from stefan.
I was in this ROM from beginning until I found topo ROM's same. battery has always been bad for me...nothing about the ROM but there is something which is sucking the juice so badly....
Waiting for Topo new SP3 which he is testing.
But for these small things I am happy with this

Yes, sync is off and the only app running in background is WhatsApp.
Btw I found an other crazy issue in the V28G firmware:
Sometimes (when I use the phone) the screen suddenly gets darker and has dark spots. I already had this problem a few times under V28G. The first time I thought my phone would be defect, but the issue disappears when you lock and then unlock your phone.
Here's a photo of that:
Does anyone already had the same crazy issue?

Flix123, i have exactly same thing in mine. But it's not something i noticed only on ICS, i already noticed this problem 4 or 5 months ago (during that time i was using Temasek's rom) so i think this is something related to the phone itself due to aging or something like that... (mine is really getting old now, i bought it on may 2011....)
Hi guys!
I'm using latest stock rom JWB and Mercury Kernel 1.4 on my SGS.
2 days ago i removed some apk's from system/app on my i9000 galaxy s , like: ttsservice , tts , fbaccount , maps , samsung app store.
Before that my battery stayed with me like 10hours with my normal use, and dead! But now after 40hours it's on 70% WTF!?!?!?! , did those notuseful apps ( excepts maps ) consume so much battery? OMG.
CHEEERS
Could you make a list of what apps you removed?
Did you simply remove them with root explorer?
Well, you just simply remove Google Maps from Stock gingerbread and your battery will last 3-4 days in standby. yes use root-explorer.
Don`t underestimate the permanent background syncing some apps do ...
maps and fbaccount are some apps which consumes much battery ...

updated to JW7 (europe) and Mercury 1.4 , much smoother. to bad those apps are not optimised for gingerbread(fb and more), this stock rom with a good kernel runs like hell! i dont understand why this function ( 4-5 battery life in standby ) can not be implemented in CM 9-10-11 for the i9000, they to dont include mapa but there the battery dies in 1 day MAXIMUM.
I guess maybe, the stock rom uses some cpu drivers that can keep the phone in low power mode for so long time, without maps app. and still accepting phone calls when needed.
Hmhh i think that CM has its reason not to use /include mapa or maybe we should ask pawitp ,why not inluding ...

I mean a STOCK ROM , with maps removed and 2G active can stay in standby 4-5 days. I Mean it.
Now Cm 7-9-10-11 in 24hrs with 2 G is dead and CM dont have maps. That is my idea.....

Install kitkat. My battery life has definatly got better.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Hi guys
I was thinking about to install jb on ace, moths ago i used for a time CM10 and it was good, but all the time i have to charge my phone, the battery drains so much, some apps are so big, all time i had lag, etc etc. Now i'm using an s3 mini with jb and its smooth, i like it.
When I create my rom, Unlimited I used as base GB 2.3.6 because for me it was stable and i don't have problems. I have seen many of you install cm on your ace, there are beautiful roms I know, but when i try to used for a long time I'm finishing back to GB, the problem for me it's the ram, the only system jb uses 233 mb, in the stock rom between 150 and 180 mb. My question is for you, why do you prefer GB, CM7, CM9, CM10?
What do you like and what do you dislike
tell me please :victory:
Yeah, jb is drains battery and eat a lot of ram. But, now there is a new rom KitKat. Since Kitkat optimized for low devices, KitKat just need a few ram and less drains battery. Thanks to androidarmv6.
GB - to feel a sense of bug-free environment. I especially keep going back occasionally for the stock camera.
CM7 - most stable cm roms for our ace are based on it. It has a few small bug like native usb tether not working, but all in all fast and stable. case in point: ultimatum rom.
CM9 - I have tried maclaw's and rhievaldo's cm9. both are pretty fast. almost bug free. but both roms suffer from a compass bug. haven't tried erickas' rom yet but heard that it has a gps bug. will check it someday.
CM10.x - these rom are pretty decent and reflects the hard yards put in by our devs. still they are relatively slow and therein lies the itch to ditch these roms. the internal memory is pretty less in these roms too.
CM11 - work in progress. hopefully cm11 will improve over all the others.
I am more than happy with GB (2.3.6 stock rom) for the following reasons:
the only rom that offers >24h battery life is GB
Swype keyboard is integrated (far better than CM keyboard)
Dialer application better than CM's one
Common log of calls and SMS (not available in CM)
This stock rom can be rooted, and with Link2sd you can install a myriad of applications.
The only thing that is annoying in GB is the Bluetooth car kit support. I can only terminate calls in the phone, not in the car, otherwise the car thinks that the call is still active and the radio refuses to work. CM11 (Mardon) has this problem solved.
It depends...

When I got issues with battery drain on CM 10.1, I just wiped battery stats in recovery when fully charged, discharged to turn off and finally again fully charge. After that I get REALLY better battery life with CM 10.X roms. Really common Is stamina between 30 - 40 hours. With stock rom almost everything was worse.

As far as I try, I can say that:
I'd prefer CM7 (official). It's very stable. In combination with FireKernel, it provides better battery life. It's very responsive with minimal lags. Almost all working, only Camera shutter sound toggle is not working, as far as I know. GPS performance is amazingly fast, even for indoor usage.
For second position, I'd choose OldDroid's AOSP ICS RC1 or erikcas' AOKP ICS. They are pretty stable, sometimes lag. Compass works, but GPS performance is slow. If CM9 ROMs had GPS and compass working, I would try them too and choose them as second position too.
For third position, I'd choose stock GB ROM, specifically XXKPP firmware. It has fast GPS performance, comparable to CM7's.
I don't choose JB ROMs as a preference because they don't fit my needs. I always deal with lags.
Btw, I tried stock Froyo ROM several months ago. It is very smooth, much smoother than stock GB. But I got FCs that I don't get in other ROMs, so I uninstalled it.
Gingerbread for me.
to be quite honest i just started rooting and installing my phone this morning.
I tried KitKat in CM11 and drains the battery like..in 2-3 hours.
Maybe I should try others.
