Phone does not show battery charging status - LG Optimus Black

Hi I am using CM10.1 nightly dated 8-Jan 2013; with the latest matching gapps file
(10.1-20130108-NIGHTLY-p970.zip)
I have followed the usual practice (wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe Dalvik cache, wipe battery status)
I always select the Status Bar to show battery level as circle with percentage. (I did that with CM10 and now CM10.1)
But this nightly has a peculiar problem: The phone does not display that it is being charged.
Two different displays are affected at once:
1. In the status bar (at the top of screen), the circle should rotate when phone is charging. It does not.
2. When the phone is locked, if I press the power button, the lock screen should show "Charging xx%".
Instead, it shows "Discharging xx%".
I guess a common mechanism for both these displays is broken.
The CM10 used to work fine.
Since I am not allowed to raise a bug for nightlies, I am raising it here.
In case any information is needed, please let me know.
Thanks in advance!

I used the one from 8 January but haven't encountered your problem. Like you i also use the circle mod and set the option to always show battery status in lockscreen. Also no problem with the nightly from 10 January.
Is it charging at all? Do you have this with other roms as well and have you tested this?

Yes, it charges normally (the charge percentage increases normally). But at the same time, the lock screen says "DIScharging XX%", and the circle in the status bar stays steady (no rotation).
So far I have flashed 3-4 nightlies in CM10 series. In all of them the display worked just fine.
I would like to mention a fact: I used the wipe routine only for the first CM10+gapps. For the subsequent nightlies, I did not wipe anything (just flashed the new CM10+gapps over the older set.) It simply updated some packages. I never had any issues.
In fact, I flashed the 10.1 also like that (old habit), and found the problems mentioned here. So I followed the wipe routine and then flashed the CM10.1+Gapps once again. But the problem remains.

I had this problem time ago..I am not sure about the way I resolved but I think this is a problem relatet to the custom theme..
Do you have some custom theme installed?
Try to change the UI theme (Settings-->theme) or if you do dot have one (different by the stock one) download it and set the theme.
Then reboot in CWM, whipe cache+dalvik and fix permissions.
Let me know if it will work..

Sorry for the late reply!
I must confess that I don't know where to get a decent free theme. So I searched around and came across a theme called Crystal 2.
I installed that, and then encountered "Unfortunately the UI has stopped working" messages (several-one after another). I also got a few "Unfortunately Trebuchet has stopped working" messages also. Actually the download page pre-warns the users about this possibility, and recommends a routine: Change to default theme>Reboot>Change to the new theme>reboot. So I followed that.
After this I rebooted in CWM, wiped cache, wiped dalvik cache and fixed the permissions.
Still both the problems remained: The lock screen does not say "Charging", and the percentage circle in the status bar does not rotate.
I reverted to the default theme. Yet the problems still remain.

I did that TWICE (including complete wipe, which resulted in re-downloading of all my apps, and also getting back all contacts from my Google account).
However, that did not resolve the issue.
I think this is a bug, after all. Several other people are facing it too!
Hope the developers take a note of this. (I can provide any debugging info as required).

When i just recently had the pgroblem, i did the following. Flash a stock v30 ROM, do a factory reset from hidden menu, flash only v20 bin file with cwm patch, once in recovery, start setting up the rom again. Dont use a backup though... when I restored mine, i had the same problems afterwards

Thanks for the tip!
I just noticed that you mentioned v30, but I remembered having V20G.
So I tried to check it in my phone, and found a problem: Earlier I could see this firmware version in my phone setting.
But after installing CM10 (and later CM10.1), this setting is no longer visible.
So I Googled for a solution, and found that version number is embedded in the Baseband number.
Well, my Baseband number is LGP970AT-00-V20g-SEA-XXX-JUL-03-2012+0.
I also noticed that the following site lists a V30C for India. (I am in India).
http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=1#india
Does it mean I am indeed using V20G, and therefore an outdated firmware?
Just to confirm, (so that I don't mess up) is the following procedure ok?
A. UPDATING THE FIRMWARE:
1. Download USB driver and LG Mobile support tool from here:
http://www.lg.com/in/support-mobile/lg-P970
2. Install both on PC, and connect mobile to PC, to update the firmware.
B. UPDATE THE ROM:
1. Download the V30C ROM from: http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=1#india
2. Place it in the SD Card.
3. Reboot into recovery mode to run SWM, and select the "Install zip from sdcard" option, and select the V30C ROM.
4. Without exiting from SWM, select the "Wipe data/factory reset" option.
5. How do I flash just the V20 bin file (How do I avoid installing the whole V20G zip)?
Do I extract the bin file first from the zip and copy it to my SD Card?
6. In SWM menu, select the "Reboot" option and let the system restart.
********************
Thanks in advance!

AW: Phone does not show battery charging status
Wrong procedure. You need to extract bin and fls files from the downloaded .kdz file. Then you need to flash it as i said above using SmatFlashTool.
Plus you need to boot up the flashed v30 ROM, go to dialer, type 3845#*970# and from that hidden menu dp a factory reset. Yes it is different from a wipe in CWM. Then shut down your phone, bring it to download mode, flash a v20 bin file, once in cwm, do a factory reset, install any ROM you want, be happy

Thanks for your time and patience!
I am not well-versed in CM ways, so had expected something like this.
Here is the revised take on what I need to do:
1. Update firmware (follow all steps of Part A).
2. Download the V30C and V20G ROMs from: http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=1#india
Now extract the bin and fls files from the V20G ROM (.kdz file),
using the technique mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1692191
Place all the files in the SD Card.
3. Download the SmartFlash Tool (as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448803)
4. Reboot into recovery mode to run SWM, and select the "Install zip from sdcard" option, and select the V30C ROM.
After installation, reboot to CM10.1.
5. Select dialer, enter 3845#*970# and press on the handset button (to actually enter the string).
From the menu that pops up, select "Factory Reset" option.
6. Now run the SmartFlash Tool (as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448803).
(The only difference is, point to the path of the bin and fls files that were placed in SD card in step-2)
At the end, the phone reboots automatically.
********
BTW I am facing another problem that could block the execution of the procedure listed above:
I am unable to connect my phone to PC through USB cable. The phone is not detected at all.
(It used to work in CM10, but problem started after I installed CM10.1).
I have seen that this problem is posted by a lot of people, and none have found any solution.
To transfer any content to the CD card, I actually swap my SD card into a Nokia feature phone and then transfer the files from PC to card.
Once that is done, I place the SD card back in my P970.
But I think this problem with USB port is going to create trouble for me.
Could you help with this issue?

[RESOLVED]
My further experiments were stalled because of my issue with USB connectivity (which turns out to be a driver issue, as the LG service center is able to connect the phone to their PC perfectly).
But I am glad to report that I installed the latest CM10.1 (dated 20130211), and both issues are taken care of.
I did see the release notes this week which talks about changes in charging logic.
Maybe this was the reason.
ISSUE IS RESOLVED.
Thanks for all the support, guys!

Can I add a question about device off charging? It seems to show full battery icon even when the battery is not full. Is that normal or should it be animated or blinking?

Hi,
Since the issue is marked "RESOLVED", people having the same issue may look at the end of this thread to learn what solution I found.
They will be confused to see a totally unrelated issue being discussed.
Please initiate a different thread.
Thanks.

Then ROM Manager is clearly the issue. That link gets you to box stock software. I'm not a fan of RM because I feel that unless 110% understood, it can cause way more headaches than it fixes. What do you use it for? What changes did you make after flashing to stock?
used rom manager to change battery icon 3g icon signal icon and the notification bar backround
I don't think that MavROM is compatible with Rom Manager tweaks. I believe that they only work with CM based ROMs. Try reflashing to stock, rerooting, and reROMing it. Don't make the changes and see if the issues persist.
i tried reflashing to stock like 10 times and it never fully goes back to stock
How about going to cwm through odin and deleting your catch data and your delv catch. I had the same issue when reverting back to stock ( it wasnt fully there) but when i erased all the data and delv catch it reverted to the stock rom properly. Just a thought

Well, the previous is strange, because I've used that to recover from all different causes of bricks and bootloops and reboots and etc. All took me back to box stock software...
Anyways, I would flash back to stock-ish with it, re-root, install CWM, boot into recovery, and then wipe /system /data /cache /dalvik cache.
Using X + Power then VOL Up + Down, you can get into stock recovery and wipe data and cache. This puzzles me though, because that quick SBF wipes data, system, and cache.
Just for my curiosity, what ISN'T stock after the quick unbrick method?

Are you sure you have the latest drivers installed? Head over to that thread one more time, re-download the quick unbrick, boot up with M + Power, select AP Fastboot, open the shortcut for "CLICK HERE - Something something something", allow it to go through it's 20 or so lines of actions, and when it says to press any key to exit, do so. Now just let the phone sit there while still plugged in (IIRC, this is what I did last time). If this all fails to return you to stock settings... 1. I'll be surprised 2. I'll nand backup mine and make a video for you of quick unbricking mine and everything it does.
If it does work, please don't change things in ROM Manager, IIRC, those tweaks are only for CM based ROMs, and not Mav.

MIUI 2.8.17 - many FC´s, please Help me :(

Hey there.
Okay, bevor a few days, i was with my i9000 on Dakry´s ROM 11.0 Black Edition. But this was very buggy and many things didnt worked.
So i heard from the MIUI ROM, watched some Pics etc. and it looked really beautiful, so i installed it.
How i installed MIUI 2.8.17 on Darky´s ROM:
1. I downloaded the ROM from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1548796 and put it into internal SDcard
2. I went into recovery, and followed these steps: "do all wipe (wipe data factory reset, wipe cache partiotion, wipe dalvikcacke)"
3. "Go on install zip from sdcard, Select the zip and install" (So, after this step it freezes on the Semaphore logo, without installing anything, after about 20mins waiting, i tryed to go into recovery again, but it didnt worked, so i pulled the battery out. After i pulled it in, i went into recovery again, and go on installing zip from sdcard, now its installing succesfully.)
4. "Reboot and wait a few minutes, reboot, You have finished"
Well, now im on MIUI 2.8.17. Its just so awesome beautiful, i really love it, but now i get many FCs.
e.g. sometimes the sms App FC, and Camera or Gallery, and now i´ve installed the Mishout APP (Shoutbox from MIUI Germany forum), but this is allways Forceclosing
And if i try to charge my phone while its turned off, there is no more Loading animation, just black screen like the phone is still off, but the charger is plugged in.
Did i´ve made something wrong while installing this?
And sorry for my bad english, its not the best, but i hope someone understand me and can help me :crying:
Thanks

Till now i got no more FCs, thats good, but theres still no charge animation (while phone is off), maybe its a bug from miui but i havent read about this anywhere.

[Q] Custom rom went wrong (LG optimus 2x)

so i finally decided to root my lg optimus 2x, after a few tries, i finnaly did it. so after that i went to the google play store to download the app Rom Manager, after it finished installing, i went deeper into the app (Rom Manager), and found out that i could just download and install a custom rom directly from my phone, without any pc connectivity. so i choose one that was written stable on, after the custom rom was downloaded, i clicked on the icon in the notification tap to install. there were some preferences i could choose, so i decided not to backup the files from my build-in rom. after that, the phone rebooted and my phone was showing alot of text informations, and in the background of that the Rom Manager icon was showing. after the installation was done my phone got turned off. after that i decided to turn it on (obviously), and it just got stuck at the LG logo in the beginning.
so the question is, what do, i do now? i have tried everything.

you should look into more what you need to know, need to do before flashing a custom rom
well, you either try flashing a Stock rom via Smartflash and if that doesn't work, you'll have to use Nvflash, but don't worry, your phone is fine, there's nothing to be afraid about.
Next time you try a rom, you migh want to root the device, install cwm, then make a backup with the app Titanium Backup, after that, you go into the cwm, wipe as needend and install the rom. Do read the guides there are about flashing, because things like this could happen if you don't know what your doing.
If you have done a Backup of your Rom you just simply click restore in cwm and everything would get back to normal, but since you didn't, you have to use Smartflash.
But anyways, if I were you, instead of using Smartflash as my first choice, this is what i would do:
1.- Download a CM7 rom (or any other rom i like) for the O2X in its page with the gapps (google apps), if you like Stable versions, then go for it.
2.- I'd put that rom in a microsd card directly from my pc and then put that microSD card on the device.
3.- I'd go into cwm by doing this: While the phone is off, you click: Volume down + Power button at the same time and wait until the secong LG logo appears before releasing them.
4.- I'd do the firsts 2 wipes it shows there: Data wipe/factory reset (as I already have a Titanium backup) and Cache partition wipe
5.- Go into "Advanced" and wipe: Dalvik cache and Battery stats.
6.- Go back and choose: "Install zip from SD card" then "Choose zip from sd card"
7.- Locate the file and apply it
After that you'll see that "lots of text information" you saw the first time, that's fine, just wait a little, after it's done simply click "Reboot system now" and wait a little bit for the Rom to charge for its first time, if everything goes fine, you'll have CM7 installed and your phone will be functional again.
If you like the Rom, then look for tutorials so you can configure it the way you want and flash the gapps.
Hope this helps you
I think that the reason you got stuck in LG logo, was because you were installing a rom that doesn't automatically convert the EXT3 partition into EXT4 or something, or maybe what you installed wasn't a rom, i don't know, just be sure to check a little more in the future Good luck!
Note: not all roms require to flash gapps, only Cyanogenmods and some others.

[Q] Repair Galaxy Note N7000 SystemUI / TouchWiz home stopped working errors?

Hello everyone,
I've been literally 12 hours searching for possible answers on how to repair my Galaxy Note N7000 which from what I've concluded, has a problem that can be easily repaired but I've found nothing but limitations when I have a go at it. It doesn't seem to be bricked as I can still access recovery mode, download mode and it effectively boots, it's only giving me errors.
Here's what happened:
1) I tried rooting it using UnlockRoot PRO. Paid the PRO version, detected the device. Later I find it says the N7000 with 4.1.2 is not compatible so the rooting process was never completed, so I rooted it using Root_SuperSU.0.95.Only-signed and it worked just fine.
2) Everything worked fine, downloaded Andromizer to customize the phone.
3) Changed the DPI size to test it, then went to Developer Options and changed the Animation scales to 0.5 to make it all run faster.
4) Rebooted the device. Once I did, I got nothing but "SystemUI has stopped working" together with "TouchWiz home has stopped working errors".
I checked around the web and so far, what I've found (and tried) is this:
1) There seems to be a bug related to TouchWiz and the Animation Scale option (or perhaps the DPI size option in Andromizer). So I tried to do a wipe data / factory reset through recovery mode.
2) When trying the wipe data / factory reset through recovery mode, I rebooted the phone, only to find the SAME errors after I registered everything.
3) First option that came to mind was to wipe everything and immediatly reinstall the Official JellyBean 4.1.2 firmware (at this point I want to pretty much unroot the device as I didn't know it was going to give me so much trouble). When I tried that, I realized that SUDDENLY, Odin (nor Heimdall) are NOT detecting the phone in download mode. I'm guessing it's because USB Debugging is turned off but, I can't access the phone settings. It's my only logical conclusion, although it should be turned on given I could install PhilZ Custom Recovery later.
4) I search around the web and it says it's a driver problem. So I uninstall everything, run CCleaner, USBDeview to uninstall everything related to the Samsung Galaxy. Reboot. Install drivers again. Reboot. Plug booted phone and let Windows detect the device, installed successfully. Reboot in download mode. Let windows detect the device, installed successfully. Run Odin: DEVICE NOT DETECTED. (It does detect it while it's booted though, only it doesn't work for **** obviously).
I've literally tried everything. I've tried checking for a way to install the firmware via Recovery Mode instead of Download Mode. I've tried checking for a way to remotely access the device and mod the settings from there using ADB, and I get the same problem in ADB, doesn't detect the device.
Also tried to reset settings to normal via PhilZ Custom Recovery which I managed to install later.
Isn't there just a way to reset all settings to normal? Shouldn't a factory reset do this? How can I get SOMETHING to work and try to recover the phone? Any Aroma Recovery Script? Any way to mess with the system folder and modify settings manually via notepad or something since due to the SystemUI / TouchWiz home errors I can't access the phone settings?
I'm barely awake at this point. Can't believe I've stressed myself this much. Please help. This is beyond retarded.
Thank you,
Z
i had the same exact problem just few hours ago.....first of all you should boot into recovery mood by pressing vol up+ home button+lock button until samsung logo shows and then wipe all data/factory reset and wipe all cache partitions..........if that didnt fix it you should try rerooting it againg after re wiping
I read the post but it seems you have done a lot of things and nothing worked. So what is the situation right now? You can boot as normal but cannot get any icons or settings as sysUI and TW crashes?
Try installing GB ROM then wipe/cache first. If good, root GB ROM then do full wipe. Then test ROM for crashing.
If good then install JB rom and test. Let us know.
unable to enter phone setting ? then just simply look for a secsetting.apk for ur version then replace it n set the permission rw-r--r--

Weird as hell though, given that I updated my GT-N7000 to JB 4.1.2 through Odin in this computer and it never gave me any problems.
I AM going to learn some ADB / Android SDK though. I'd rather learn everything before something like this happens to me again.
I appreciate everyone's concern, and thank you all for it.
nice to hear that you had this one fixed
Glad to hear its working now.

[HELP] Moto X won't boot to OS after strange happenings...

Rooted, Bootloader unlocked, TWRP installed, Xposed Running. 5.0 - I did not yet update or press update ever, If I have ever accidentally allowed it to begin downloading I kill the download by deleting the file using SDMaid.
I got home, had problems with other devices, phone was on about 40% at this point. I remember hearing the phone reboot, I noticed it went into TWRP, which was strange, I restarted system > powered up > lockscreen > restart to twrp with no interaction. Phone is now getting low 21%ish. Fix permissions - because used to be the all out fix on my other devices.
Same thing again > straight into twrp.
I notice that some scripts have been ran in the twrp console. Something along the lines of Victara_en_US.zip Some red scripts I assume saying failed to update.
I assume the phone is now too low to power up.
It shows no sign of charging since leaving the last twrp reboot.
Green light in top speaker shows when attempting to power up with usb charger plugged in > nothing else happens.
With charger unplugged from phone I see my modified logo screen and the moto planet spinning before phone turns off completely. This process now repeats.
Anyone have any idea what the hell is wrong with my phone?
EDIT UPDATE:
Managed to get into the fastboot menu:
Battery Low (RED)
Device is UNLOCKED status code 3 (YELLOW)
Software status modified (YELLOW)
As normal aside from Battery...

Get your phone into TWRP and connect it to your charger and let it charge to at least 70% Use Advanced Wipe in TWRP, select Cache and wipe that. Then see if your phone will start normally. Somehow you have downloaded the update file and it is trying to run automatically. Since your phone is modified, the update fails (and nothing is updated or changed.) The update file is in /cache so wiping that should correct the problem. You should go ahead and update to the Stagefright patched version of your ROM so you aren't having to deny the factory update all the time.

Attempting this now....
Phone still boots to a black screen. I don't understand why it would download the update let alone attempt to install it, I religiously deny the update. Also why would it have booted up normally then forced itself into TWRP? :S
What can I next? I dont mind wiping using fastboot as I managed to take all my files off the phone via twrp.
This happened to me a couple times but wiping the cache AND the dalvik cache fixed it. If it still doesn't work, I hope you have a backup because you are going to have to wipe the system and data next. Sometimes these updates like to link themselves to all the phone's partitions, and in that case you should wipe everything and restore your full system and data backup in recovery.

I wiped both the first time I tried it :-/
I don't have a system backup as a far as I am aware, need to check main pc for something like that. I had a lot of trouble with no signal after changing my phone to x1095 so I could root it etc. Just hope I don't have the same trouble again. Can i reinstall the system through twrp? Or do I need to flash via fastboot?
Whats my best option, system files wise, for fixing this?

If you dont have a backup, at this point, I don't see any other options besides formatting your data or flashing the stock firmware. Of course, don't just take my word for it, but in the future just make sure you have a working backup available.

Am I able to flash anything other than the stock 5.0? Last I checked I had converted whatever I had to the x1095. I remember everything being easier on other phones...
Yes, you can, just make sure you have the right file for the job. They are usually about 2 gigs, and they take forever to flash. Note that once you flash the file, your phone will be as if you just bought it from the store, but it always will boot if you have the corresponding build.

In TWRP, make a backup now even though it may not be useful depending on what the problem is. Then, use advanced wipe in TWRP and wipe data. If the phone will boot now, something got corrupted in data and you'll just need to set your phone up again. If the problem continues, you'll have to flash your system image. How to do this varies with the model of your phone; some models have TWRP images, others need to use fastboot files. After you flash the new system image, you can either just continue to clean setup the phone, or you can try to restore only data from the backup you made previously.

Does that include 5.1 roms? I can never seem to find x1095 5.1 roms, or anything for that matter, they are all titled with every other version.

I tried wiping data to no avail.
Im trying to download stock 5.0 for now but the download is taking decades for some reason. Do you, or anyone else, recommend any roms which I can easily flash without having to worry about modem files?

Thank you for your help, as well as anyone else who helped me. I now have a running phone on 5.1.
How do I gain root from here? My superuser app updated and now tells me I have no binary, despite telling me to flash something only 5 minutes prior.

So you don't have root? I would suggest rooting using towelroot. Go online and search "towelroot" click on the first result, click on the lambda to download the apk, and install it. You can then open the app, and press "make it ra1n" to root your device without any reboot needed.
I had root prior to wiping and installing the 5.1 update that was linked to me. Towelroot gives me the phone not supported message.

Towel root does not work in 5.1.
To root just flash TWRP. Start TWRP. When you exit TWRP it will ask you if you want to root it. Simple.

I'm still in the "phone not responding" phase.. how did you manage to get in the bootloader from there? Tnx!
I found a chainfire autoroot IMG that rooted my phone. Found xposed too. I'm back at a fully working phone now, thank you to all who helped me.
Gotta say, the battery life on 5.1 is a hell of a lot better.

As in you can't get it to fastboot?
I left it to charge for a while, then took about 5 minutes attempting the power button volume button combo to restart and get it into fastboot.
I believe that it's something like:
Power + vol down until the phone screen flashes/green light goes off
Then
Still holding the power and volume down
Hold the vol up too
Then release the power still holding the vol up and down.
That's what worked for me. It's literally the most awkward phone I've had go button combos.
I think vol up from powered off works too.
If you mess up just hold the power and vol down again.
