[Q] Galaxy Tab doesn't work after installing clockwork 5 - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Galaxy Tab 7 P1000 was originally running clockwork 3.X... and I just tried to install clockwork 5... and after installation, the device keeps staying at the boot screen. And when I go to recovery mode, the 'HOME' button doesn't work.... :crying::crying:
How can I fixed this brick back to a normal tab?

Hey Dude,
Thanks for your reply. I will try it out tomorrow and hope it works on my stupid tab.
By the way, 1 more question. Before reading your reply, I tried to install CWM-based recovery 5.0.2.8 again and tried to install CM9.x on the tab, but not matter which version I used, (P1000, 1000L, 1000N), all of them gave me 'assert failed getprop( ro.product.device ) galaxytab...'. It sounds that the ROM installation file couldn't recognize my P1000 tab.....do you have any idea on how come my device couldn't be recognized.

I'm not sure what exactly has happened in these cases, but it's clear some information, some kind of ID perhaps, somehow has been removed or corrupted. I've seen it myself, but luckily there's fix. When you install a ROM, the first command of updater-script in folder META-INF is an assert statement. This statement tests what Tab you have, and aborts if it's not the right one. Now, if you get an assert error and you're positive you've got the right ROM for the Tab, you can disable the check and it will install the ROM. Even if it's the wrong one! You open the ZIP, edit updater-script and remove the assert statement. It's best to open the ZIP, and not unpack and repack it. And to modify some ZIPs you will have to use Linux, because Windows can't handle those ZIPs.

[solved] ROMs wont load

Ok I been at this all day, I rooted my phone and read the guides all over the web, but no matter what I do I cant get the Rom to load. I dont want to be stuck using RC 29. Every time I try the update.zip I get
finding update package...
opening update package...
E: cant open /sdcard/update.zip
(no such file or directory)
Installation aborted
Press home+back to reboot
I dont get it, what am I doing wrong? I really didnt want to start a noob thread but Im stuck here. I tried 3 different roms but they all do the same thing. I really want to use Cyanogen with the dark theme.

Make sure your settings on your PC aren't such that you are inadvertently naming the files update.zip.zip. In some instances, Windows will append the file name automatically. To check if this is the case, go into My Computer>Tools>Folder Options and see if "hide extensions for known folders" is checked or unchecked. If its checked, then you need only to rename the file to update and windows will automatically put the zip on it. Have you installed Cyanogen's 1.4 recovery image? This will allow you to not have to worry about this problem as it lets you flash any image with a .zip extension.

Glad to help! I still stand by my original recommendation of installing Cyanogen's latest recovery image (1.4 currently) if you haven't done so already.
If you check back on this thread, can you please edit the title to say [SOLVED] so everyone knows that the problem has been handled?

How to install google addon to a ROM?

Hello, I installed CyanogenMod 5.0 lastnight and the market and a few other applications are not there, im guessing that is the google addon can anyone tell me in detail how to install that? Thanks
You need to flash to ER27 Google add on pack here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623496
Current link: http://www.mediafire.com/file/jmmzywtlnjd/gapps-passion-ERE27-2-signed.zip
thanks...How do i flash it?
I would like to know also. I've gone into recovery and added the file to the SD card than tried to run it, only to tell it me it's not a zip. So I renamed it and also tried compressing it as zip(just to make sure) and I get an error.
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
Download the add on from that page listed, place it on the root of your sdcard, reboot into recovery, flash it in recovery (the same way you flashed the ROM, but do not wipe), then reboot your phone.
That is exactly what I did. I sent a pm w/ more details. I tried covering all grounds just to make sure if one failed the other one would'nt.
Edit: Should USB debugging be on/off? Don't know if that makes a difference
Edit: Figured it out. Everytime i would downlad the file on my mac it would not be a .zip file so renaming it and compressing it did nothing. I downloaded it on my pc and voila, it works fine..weird...

This is because you enable auto open files in Safari. The actual zip file is in your Trash lol.
To disable it (and u should), open Preferences > General > Uncheck Open "safe" file after downloading

How to install the Google Addon?
You have to change the name of the file (ex: "gapps-mdpi-20101020-signed.zip") to "update.zip". Move it to your SDcard and then install from recovery.

You don't need to be in "Debuggin mode", neither to rename to "update.zip".. Just use ROM manager provided by cyanogenmod and go wiki :

Hello Dacid1171,
I installed Cyanogenmod 7.0.0, with no google apps of course.
I used gapps-gb-20110307-signed pack, went to recovery and chose "Install from SD card", just like I would if I was flashing new ROM.
After that the phone wouldn't book. Logo of cyanogenmod would appear with the circular arrow moving around it, after 3 round it stops and restarts all over.
It was kept that way for a very long time hoping that the phone will come to life. It wouldn't.
What did I do wrong?

I had issues with cwm failing to up date as well. So after some google fu I managed to get a working install.
1. Download the file found in this thread.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=864033
2. Power down and reboot into cwm.
3. Select mounts and storage and then select mount system.
4. Install zip from sd and select the zip from step one.
5. Reboot and enjoy.
6. In settings>language&keyboard there should now be an option for android keyboard. Open the browser and long press the url bar. You should get a popup allowing you to select the android keyboard.
Does this "IMPORTANT NOTE: this ZIP file is a ClockWork Recovery update file ==> DO NOT USE IT !!! At first I tried the install with just the apk and so files and it didn't work for me.
As far as .Odex files I haven't seen any at all in the root folder.
So far I haven't had any fc's or issues what so ever.

Ok. I'll take the plunge. Thanks.

I followed the instructions above ands while I can see the android keyboard under settings, clicking on the URL space on my browser only pops up the starndard TnT keyboard. How long do I need to engage the URL space? I would like to test it.
Try the google search bar. Just press and hold you should get a pop up. Select "input method" the android keyboard should be an option.
i'm curious as to why people prefer this keyboard over the stock TnT keyboard. the TnT has bigger keys. the gingerbread has these small little "half" keys. annoying to type on. or do other roms not have that keyboard?

[Q] how do you flash "framework-res.apk" without bricking the g1?

I was wondering how I could edit the framework-res.apk (it can be found in the /system/framework directory) file and not brick my phone, I've tried putting a modified version
in a signed zip file that was supposed to be for that very purpose, a stock update.zip for getting rc29 to 1.5(and yes, I did flash my phone back to rc29) and I recently tried to just take a file manager in root mode and copy-paste-overwrite, but I just soft-bricked my phone halfway into the process, probably because it was still mounted
P.S. I did mount the /system directory as rw
my phone:htc dream,no 2g-3g contract(wifi only),rooted (universal androot),stock 1.6 drc83(but I can get it to rc29,1.5 and crc43; at least I think thats the name of the second update),stock recovery, superuser elite+superuser- latest, su binary- latest, busybox- latest binary, and about 5000 scratches.
--edit-- can also get cyanogen recovery, and root through cm 4.1.99, and cm4.2.15.1.
So is your goal to root your g1? Have you followed any guides to root? Can you give just a bit more detail of end goal and a bit confused about what os you are currently running. Also its nice to get all info from bootloader screen

I've actually already got cyanogenmod 4.2.15 on it so rooting isn't really an issue right now.
What I really want to do is theme my phone, because I really like the ICS buttons and black statusbar - but I want to wait until I'm more experienced
before I try to port cm7 to the g1 (as far as I know, cm7 is the first cyanogenmod to support themes).
P.S. since this is being sent from my g1 - I can't currently post my bootloader info; but I will as soon as I can.
Also. I want to know how I can sign the framework-res.apk after changing it to my satisfaction.
Sorry, reading my last post (although 2months old) I must have been trying to reply to someone else
You don't need to sign the framework-res
Just decompile with apktool, make changes, recompile (make sure to add the metainf and manifest from original back in) then you can create a flashable.zip to flash it and chmod, or add it to a ROM and sign the ROM or use adb when in recovery to push it and change permissions

How would I sign the rom if I put it in one?
Apktool gives me errors when I try to recompile.
Ninjamorph from the market makes the changes, but they don't take hold.
P.S. perfect timing with the reply, as I posted my reply only about 45 min. ago!
If there are errors recompiling write those down and I'll take a look, as for as signing the ROM there are many ways, I use signapk for windows and one that amonra made for Linux, just Google search sign ROM android and you'll find many ways
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Is there any posibility that I could just send you the rom I want to mod & a zipped folder containing a modified framework-res, and have you recompile/sign it? I just don't want to brick my phone. Thanks in advance!
If its a ROM for the g1 I already have it, how about just sending me your modded apk along with a link to the ROM and I'll make you a flashable.zip to install
And FYI, this isn't something that could brick your phone, recovery wouldn't be effected so worst scenario is you would end up in a bootloop
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
The rom is cyanogenmod 4.2.15.1 and I can't quite remember the link, but I'll post a zip with the frmwrk-rs and my email. Thanks in advance for the help!!

Does the ROM flash for you with you current setup before the edited framework-res? What I mean, if you were to flash the update-cm4.... (Whatever the name) right now it flashes correct? With your current SPL, radio, and recovery. The only thing I did was recompile your framework-res, swap it with the one from the ROM you mentioned, rezipped and signed the ROM
I can't think of any edits you could have made to framework-res that wouldn't allow you to at least flash the ROM, may get stuck in a boot loop or never boot, but the ROM should flash
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I looked inside the rom you sent me, and I didn't recognize any of it.
this is a link to the rom I got the framework-res from:
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogen-u...pdate-cm-4.2.15.1-signed.zip&can=1&q=4.2.15.1
from what I saw, the one you sent me looks more like a flash image than an update.zip,
if you look inside the one that I was talking about, it looks more like an ota, and I can flash it in cyanogen+jf 1.4 recovery which I got
from the flashrec app (not on google play anymore, from internet only).
I don't know if an unmodified version of the rom you sent me would flash, but the one you sent me seems to have problems in general.
No errors that would point specifically to the framework-res are appearing.
Here are the files that I modified: View attachment 2212696, decompile your own framework and paste/overwrite the contents over the contents of the res\drawable directory in the framework-res.apk.
I'm pretty sure that's the same ROM I installed you apk into, I'll be home shortly and take a look again, could have made a mistake
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
This rom that you gave me is about 10mb larger than the one I use, and takes 30 seconds to load in recovery and freezes everything momentarily.
@DREAMWAVE_devteam
yeah same rom, even checked SHA1 to make sure (with the ROM before i added your framework-res)
which is 1604kb compared with 5589kb of the original. so whatever was changed is what wont allow it to work
can you just quick go over how you decompiled and what changes you made, i know you linked something and ill look at it but i dont have a ton of time to dig right now so a brief overview would be nice

[Q] Need help rooting

I've got a Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 with:
Android version 2.3.6
Baseband version S5830XWKT8
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-1190851 [email protected]#1 Mon Sep 3 16:00:05 KST 2012
Build number GINGERBREAD.BGKT4.
I want to root it so I can unlock it and delete some useless pre-installed apps.
I've tried to root it following quite a few tutorials here on XDA (including various zip updates) but all I got was a useless superuser app without root permissions.
I think that's because the version I have is no longer compatible with those methods, but I don't know.
So I want to ask: Is there any method, no matter how hard it is, able to definitely root a Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 with android 2.3.6?
And in the case it isn't possible, do you know if I take it to one of those "repairs" shops they could at least unlock it? or do they use the same methods?
Thanks!

Good luck and yes, report then what's happend with your phone
Well, I Installed CWM, tried Delete_thinkdroid.zip (didn't do anything. Think free office is still installed and working), upd_1.zip, acegingerroot.zip, gingerbred-2.3.6-root.zip, CF-Root-S5830-v3.7-b84.zip, b84-fixed.zip and still no root.
Now, my phone boots with a blue triangle in the top left corner but that's all.
upd_1.zip gave the following error:
Code:

gingerbred-2.3.6-root.zip did the same but changing the name:

acegingerroot.zip and CF-Root-S5830-v3.7-b84.zip seemed to install correctly but with no effect.

no. that you need is to liberate memory space to push root files to /system
Blue triangle is good don't worry (cfroot kernel installed )
Cfroot b84 fix isn't flashable through CWM, normal that your device aborted the installation
Your error message is because your sdcard is corrupted, so copy all your data from your sdcard to your pc using an USB adapter.
Then format your sdcard using windows in Fat32 format (you can do it using your phone and selecting format your sdcard in settings )
Copy the files again and flash it when you have free space
I'm going to provide you a script to delete a serius app, wait a moment

I think it was a memory problem as you said, because I formatted the SD card, ran the script and everything worked fine like a charm!
I've already unlocked my phone and all!
Dude you're amazing! Thank you so much for all the dedication, I really appreciate that.
Thanks!

Great! :good:
You're welcome
I advised you to reflash cfroot b84 kernel just to avoid troubles if it wasn't be installed properly
1.Flash cf-root b84 via CWM
2.Boot android and look at an app CWM, in this app select "flash kernel" and select cfroot b84 FIX (this part fix bootanimation trouble)
I'm glad you achieved it

I had no boot animation problems, but anyway, done that.
A little problem i just noticed is that after reinstalling Gmail and Youtube (after deleting them with the script) those two apps seem to not be working and send a couple of error messages after booting saying "process com.google.android.youtube" and "process com.google.android.gm" have stopped unexpectedly and giving the option to force close or report... So you know if I can fix that?
EDIT: Google Maps and Think free office work fine...

You can push those apps in /system partition again using a file browser as root explorer

Ok! Great! :good:
You can do it following the next steps:
You need to set the permissions correctly and delete Gmail.odex and YouTube.odex files if exist in /system/app before paste this new apps
1. Mount /system (R/W) in order to paste the apps
2. Just put the apps in /system/app and set the permissions like this (holding over each file, you'll change permissions)
x-x--
x----
x----
3. Reboot!
It should work
I'm having the same problem (root and get superuser app without root permissions. )but I don't have much of an idea on what to do. I have just swiched over from an iPhone so android is all new.
So my phone info is
Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 with:
Android version 2.3.6
Baseband version S5830XWKT3
Kernel version [email protected]#1
Build number GINGERBREAD.XWKT7
Can someone please run me through what I need to do to root it (I know how to get the superuser but I need to know if that prepared script (EXTREME) that removes Maps, Gmail, Thinkfree, SamsungApps and Youtube will do the same for me. Also how do you use the script (ie do you "install form sdcard") as you would the root.zip? I just want to remove carrier bloatware than I will unroot again. Or would superoneclick work for me? (nevermind superoneclick as I cant get it to install on computerputer keeps "encountered a problem and needs to close".
Thanks

Thanks!

Why not if you have SuperUser installed? Search Titanium Backup and install it from Play Store. Remove any unnecessary system app using it. Root has nothing to do with removing the system app automatically or through Application Manager. So you will need the third party app like Titanium Backup.
P/S: Becareful with uninstalling/removing system app. Else you will render your phone unusable at all. (To unbrick it you will need more trick, search the thread in XDA to revive your phone)

Titanium requires root and my superuser wont root I would rather not root at all the only thing I want to get rid of are optus stuff that was preinstalled but doesnt even work on my phone. all the research that I have read says that to remove bloat ware you need to root. (please if I am wrong just point me in the right direction)

Look for in he first page of this thread!
I attached 2 scripts to remove some apps to get free space. Then you could flash root.zip successfully
Here you have ROOT + CWM 5.0.2.6. Fixed files too

Follow the steps:
1. Here you could find the scripts to remove the apps and get free space (it's compulsory for the last roms to push superuser files)
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2420830
2. You have enough free space now (your apps have been deleted, check it)
Flash ROOT + CWM 5.0.2.6. FIXED files to get root and a custom recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239030&page=3
You can flash CWM first if you want
