I am on CM7 build #72, I know it's too old. Now I want to update it. So to which one I should go ? Latest CM7 ? Or CM 7.2 ?
I need most stable one.
Thank you
Depends on how you define "stable".
Stable by any mean should be the CM7.1.
Anything else is "pretty stable" based on my definition.
Upgrade to a Mirage CM7.2 kang. It's rock solid.

Just install mirage like you first installed CM7 if you need instructions check out the guide in my sig, just use the mirage zip instead of the one provided in the guide. Overclock kernel is already included in CM7.1 and 7.2 so you are good to go there.

^Thanks for replying.
Earlier I used to install by flashing the memory card, boot it & install.
Since you have mentioned kernel's are not needed, I just downloaded :
- ROM with only English(US) and Spanish languages - 03042012 build: MD5sum: 2d747ca70df8634ab14710e75b48f882

So I boot into recovery with ROM Manager & flash the zip file ?
Thanks in advance
Yup. Delete dalvik cache, load the ROM and reboot. You might want to run the V6 script if you haven't yet.
Have no idea about V6 script, will search & find more about it. Thank you for replying mate
@koopakid08, jgaf, MISRy - Guys thank you very much ! updated to Mirage
however I don't see any new differences from earlier build
Assuming you are on the 03042012 ROM, the most obvious difference is the softkeys, home, menu, back, are ICS style now. Have you cranked up your clock? Lowered your voltage? Taken advantage of any of the benefits you now have?

First you need to install CWM Recovery from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529863
Second you need to download CM9 from here:
http://galaxyics.com (Click DOWNLOAD, scroll down and click on Select below the Mini picture, then click on Releases, then click Download)
Then flash it through CWM.
You might know this already, but if you really want to install CM9 in a SGM, you need to have in mind that CM9 in SMG is not stable (yet). For example, if you want to install the CM9 of Squadzone, you should really read these two links:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20495725&postcount=225
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20703957&postcount=286
Of course, there are other versions of CM9 for Samsung Galaxy mini in the Dev. Forums, but I didn't try them.
About the CWM, I use the v4, because at the first time when I wanted to install CyanogenMod, the CWM v5 didn't install the ROM correctly (never passed from the bootscreen "android"). And the Backup/restore in CWM v5 didn't work it (at least in my Galaxy Mini). But the Restore function worked perfectly in CWM v4 and, until now, I hadn't problems installing other ROMs in my SGM.
I really recommend (for now) use CM7 RC 5.6 or (RC 5.3 - the one that I'm using it now). If you want CM9 only for the ICS Appearance, you can install a ICS theme with "Theme Chooser" from CM. There's also an ICS Launcher that works good.
Just Saying~
you need to have in mind that CM9 in SMG is not stable (yet)

From that link in my previous post I installed CM9 on my SGM and it is very usable to me.
I'm not using it constantly because it lacks some features that I found, and I'm used to, on squad's CM7, for example. But it's very good.

Nice! which CPU governor did you use and with what Min and Max frequency? How did you do with the laggy visual effect? right now, would you prefer CM9 more than CM7 from squad's? I'm asking all these questions because I want to have CM9 in my SGM but somehow, the first and second time I installed that CM9 I went back to my CM7.2 RC 5.3 backup xD

I always use as Governor lilgV2 (or SmartassV2 when present) and I/O noop. On that ROM the laggy visual effect is hardly noticed, try it!
As I said before: I'm not using CM9 (yet) because it lacks some features that squad's CM7 has. But if you are not used to them, you will not note any difference.
You should try it and see for yourself.
Regarding CM9 Beta4, just read the thread in this section and the entire thread in the dev section before you fiddle with it and decide if it's worth it for you.
There's a lot of fiddling and some things are somewhat working while others, like camera, are just not working at all.
IMO, it's not for daily use and won't be for a long time but if you have a spare mini, give it a try and help with the development and bug reporting.

Hi there.
I'm new here and new to the Android platform aswell. I recently bought a Galaxy Mini GT-5570B. I run Gingerbread 2.3.4 on a stock rom (JJKQ5). I just rooted it using this guide: (THANKS!!)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576202
Now, I'm looking to apply a ROM. I want the most stable one, which has only the very basic stuff. I want my phone to run as fast as possible with at least bugs or crashes. After reading a bit, I found out (correct me if I'm wrong) that CM7 is the best one to suit me.
However, I still don't know which to apply!
I found 3 topics that I think are the best, but I still don't know which of them is stable or the fastest.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572092
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1554099
Please, help me pick one or suggest another one you find working good.
Also, a very simple guide to apply it would be cool
As far as I understand, all I need to do is install ClockworkMod and just boot into it and install from SD, just like I applied my root. Is this correct?
Sorry for these nab questions, I know you probably heard it a few times (Tried searching for a similar topic, couldn't find anything that satisfies me).
Thanks for any help!

Hi. Yeah the people who are longer active here have heard these question a lot. But everybody here was a beginner so thats no problem.
You did some search yourself so you have already read the most.
All you have to do is flash cwm via odin. There is an older one 4.0.0.5 or a newer 5.x.x.x. I recommend you the older one.
After that you can use cwm and install custom roms. There are plenty you can choose of. As I used a mini my favorite was the cyanogenmod from mebitek. Try the last version or the one before.
Good luck.

I recommend CyanogenMod 7. It's the best Custom ROM out there for Android.
Try the official one & nightly builds.
Very content about Chocobread. Stable, fast, compatible with adrenaline boost, builtin app2sd and the owner will release a completely new update to it in a few weeks probably.
Thanks for all the comments, I installed official CyanogenMod 7.2RC1 and I'm very happy with it!
for the best performance try this rom:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1593047
Its very fast, smooth....camera working and the best one for games.

Yes, that's my pick also, there are two builds from pure CM based on Mebitek's (The galaxymini and the nightly (I guess weekly now ;-) )
I installed the latest weekly on top of the Galaxymini (that hasn't been updated since march 18) using the deodexed version without wiping data and it's working great. You may try the odexed version for space and maybe bit more speed but believe me, this is the smoothest ROM I've tried (Used squadzone's, chocobread, emanon, more, etc.) but this one hasn't crashed a single time. I use Overclock to 729 + slaidyboost and WOW, great ROM. Battery is not that bad as it can last as much as stock (maybe even a bit more).

So What is A Custom ROM that is stable and can be used for everyday in Ace? And any kernel suggestion to go with the ROM?:good::good:
Thanks So Much:highfive:
Even this depends on the end user requirements!
Some may feel the CM9 stable even if its in beta, while others may not be happy even with the most stable gb for the ace because it doesn't contain something they require!
My say, go for stocklite or official cm7. But afterall it depends on your definition of stability!!

ok, so you are thinking of having official cm7 for ace and apocalypse. let me tell you a better option. there is this rom called droidace it uses official cm as a base and when i compared benchmarks with apocalypse it turns out to be faster. im using it and i personally like it more than apocalypse. try it out. its really nice.
CM 7.2 MIRACLE Edition V4. Everything works and its the fastest rom ive ever used. Quadrant Advnced scores for me are 2500+ at 883 MHz and smartassv2.
Cm7.2 Miracle is perfectly stable, and is a nice fast Rom.
Lewa (in my signature) is also stable (they do two versions stable version and dev version) which is a very nice alternative rom with nice features. (its cm 7 based)
Im currently using cm7.2 democracy blackhawk 2.1.. so far no probs.. n very smooth.. no lag.. stable n for me, it's the best latest ROM for ace..

for all of you noobs as I am.......
maybe this will help you not to loose too much time (I will edit and try and make this a guide as to how and what as I get the time)
1) CM 10 installation instructions for CM10 can be found in the following thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33470004&postcount=1
2) Harsh/Tonyp ICS rom has to be installed on the old bootloader aka CM7/GB
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1959545
to have this rom you need to be on CM10 (upgarade from CM7, any other GB based roms) you will need to do a clean install full wipe
+ all other CM10 based roms which means that you need to read the first post and if it says that it is based on CM10 then its not ICS and you need to be on the old bootloader..... (no need to NVFLASH or SMARTFLASH)
3)All other ICS 4.04 releases are for the new bootloader TG, opti, stefan, DM and so on (you need to nvflash or smartflash it)
which means you will loose all your data..... instructions in the following links.....
Django manouche by carburano http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038631
TG by topogigi http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2007968
Flex Icer by Civato http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038868
Opti ICS by Homero http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003888
Ghostriders by Cojo http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002083
+ all the other stock roms available
(I will add links to how to smartflash and/or NVflash)
4) Remember that CM10 is JB......... LG released ICS......... NOT THE SAME THING (compared to windows its like CM is W8 and ICS is W7 at least to me........)
5) read always the first 3 posts as they explain everything
6) Read tonyp BB thread from beginning to end as it explains everything relevant to BB (if you aint dumb)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1658047
7)why the hell nobody made a shortlist like this b4 it would have saved me a lot of time and would not make me look like a fool.....

1.- There have been reports already at CM10 user thread
4.- CM10 is ICS, CM10.1 is JB.
5.- Couldn't agree more
7.- It's up to you how you look
Btw, there is this thread, altought with some more effort I'm sure this could turn into a useful post anyway.
I wish there was a "news" post that got updated daily so I could learn for example that recently a new CM10 version appeared on jenkins and the details about it without having to check a couple of the threads.
Anyway, keep it up.

Fun facts FYI.
CM7 is based on GB (2.3.x) AOSP source (previous official version for P990)
CM9 is based on ICS (4.0.x) AOSP source (never compiled officially for P990)
CM10 is based on JB (4.1.x) AOSP source (current official version for P990)
CM10.1 is based on JB (4.2.x) AOSP source (hopefully will release someday(NOT asking for ETA!))
Cheers

I am wanting to install the CM10 nightly.. I am coming from temasek's CM7. I'm a little bit confused with point number 2. Is it saying you can't directly flash CM10 over CM7 in CWM even if you do a full wipe because CM7 does not use the "old" bootloader/partition layout?

You can use this tool to resize the partitions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020737
follow the instructions carefully + you will need the CM (which is a separate download) pack to be able to read the internal SD
Hmm confused here..
I am also on temasek cm7 - and would like to try cm10.
But what do I do - step by step please.. keep it simple if possible
I am used to flashing rom and kernel with cwm 5028, but I now absolutely nothing about bootloader, partition, NVFlash, smartflash....
Also what rom to get? I am not going for blitz fast top notch gung ho rom - just stable, as much working as possible. Cm10 nightly? Is the call bug history?
Thx in advance
