[Solved] Galaxy S advance Internal USB Storage Shrinkage Problem - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Friends, I like to share some good information about Glaxy S advance I9070 16gb.
I upgrade my SGSA to russian JB firmware few days back. After that when i format usb storage it shrinkage from storage 11.31 gb to 3.92 gb. I was astonished, how it was happen and what was the reason for it? Then I think may be bugs of Jellybean update. But I was wrong.
Solution
Main reason for USB Storage shrinkage is PIT file. Few days back I flash my mobile with wrong PIT file of 8gb I9070 unknowingly. After that when upgrade jellybean and format it shrinkage from storage 11.31 gb to 3.92 gb. It is very necessary to flash mobile with correct PIT file for version of mobile. Here I attached I9070 16gb Ginger Bread PIT file which works on Jellybean for me and brings my 11.31gb USB strorage back for me. If any one having same problem they can apply this. But I am not responsible for any mobile breakage.
Note: Must necessary Format USB storage after Flashing with Correct Pit file.
Now I am very Happy. Thanks.

The other users can also do the same without doing a re-flashing . its one Step method though.
Just Run the bat inside zip file Attached herewith using ADB and it will format the whole mmcblk0p8 ( 11.3 GB ) storage.
NOTE : But do take the backup before doing so to be on the safer side as whole internal memory will get formatted and data within will be lost.

Just Check these two things
1) you have Samsung drivers installed for your phone ( Samsung kies).
2) your phone should be in dubugging mode to use ADB (system settings-->Development option --> usb debugging).
3) Download the attachment -- extract it.
4) Now connect your mobile to PC using USB.( close Kies ).
5) Run Batch file inside the folder and it will do the rest , reboot the phone after that and you hv 11.3 gb back.

Hey guys! I've got the same problem: I flashed to JB and now, my internal SD has got 3.91GB of free storage. The problem is, I can't remember if my phone was the 8 or 16GB version and I don't wanna flash the wrong PIT file =/ What can I do now to find it out? I don't have the packaging anymore.

If you remember that you had 11GB free internal, it was 16GB version.

That's the point...I don't know it anymore =/ I know, it sounds kinda strange - but the last time I copied smth onto my phone seems like eternities ago and I just don't know whether I had the 8 or 16GB version xD
Is there any possibility to get that information - for example via my IMEI or the serial number of my phone?
And what'd happen if I flashed the wrong PIT? Would my phone just get into a bootloop and I could easily flash the right PIT or could it mess everything up?

This needs Root-Permissions, doesn't it? Because it doesn't work on my unrooted phone...
EDIT: Odin won't flash my PIT files =/ I tried several 8GB and 16GB PIT files with and without FW flash and nothing works...Odin always says "Get PIT for mapping" but it won't repartition my storage...What can I do now?
2nd EDIT: I tried vivekchamoli's bat several times now - and I think it bricked my phone finally. I clicked restart and it won't boot, it won't vibrate when I hold the power key, it won't charge when I plug it in and I can't get into download mode. So, my phone literally can't do anything anymore! What can I do now...? ='(

Why do you guys even bother to use pit files?
Odin automatically detects the partition mapping!

8 or 11GB?
If you had 11, then you can do something. On 8GB phones you have 3.91GB free space for data. Rest is for app, systemy ram...
And try not to play around, that guy bricked his phone. Be sure what amount of memory you had before you do anything. You have box, warranty papers - maybe there is written...

hey friend first back up all ur data in the internal SD card i.e. phone memory and then just format the internal SD & if u get 11 GB then its 16 GB version and if its 3.7 GB its 8 GB version
---------- Post added at 10:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:35 AM ----------
U just need to format ur internal SD i.e. phone memory in the settings>storate and there format the internal SD which is 3.9 GB and then ur problem is solved

i'm already flashed this pit file by odin and finally i get 0 space on sd card and 0 space on usb memory and system storage is 1.97 GB

Format ur storage after flashing

[Q] Cant copy files in my SGSA I9070 any help??

this is my first post.I flashed my (unrooted)phone with latest XXLQB(Serbia) update stock rom after that overall phone is working perfectly
but then i noticed that i cant copy any files into internal or even external sd card by chance sometimes it gets copied but almost all times it keeps giving me this error
0x800703EE the volume for a file has been externally altered so that the opened file is no longer valid
also if i tried to download apps from google play first it gave me 927 error but now it goes into just downloading bar while real download never starts
what should i do i dont want to root my phone.I did factory reset.

I have never heard anyone having a problem like the one you're having...
But you will have to Root in-order to Backup your Data and/or files... then flash CoCore Kernel with TWRP to boot to Recovery and Backup only your Data in your Micro SD card.... then perform a Factory Reset or go back to Gingerbread....
(You can try this too, but it won't be much help.. also this doesn't require any Root too)... Connect your phone with your PC and copy everything to your PC
About the Error 927 from Google Play.... I don't know about that too... but try Wiping Cache and Dalvik using TWRP...
and BTW. I think the error 0x800703EE the volume for a file has been externally altered so that the opened file is no longer valid" is a Windows related issue.. not Android related..
About that google play error code...you can try checking with google play support about the error code if it persist.
And are you by any chance using 3g? Because the default setting for Play is to block big downloads if you're using 3g. Check your play setting, and if that didn't help then cancel the download in the app page and then restart it. It will ask you to allow the download with 3g or something like that. Don't use the online google play (play.google.com) from browser for this. Use the app

Repartition external SD, told 100 times from me. Search xda, internet... For answer how to do it. It is not just format. You need to remove and add partition. This is if you do not see any file in recovry. If you do, than you are doing something wrong.

Just as in previous post. And that happend because that second sd is partitioned as it should. That was the case for me too, old 2GB SD worked nice, and 8GB didn't work. After repartition of that 8GB it worked well too.

You can flash ur country's ROM using ODIN and for root u can use the same SD card and same root file for ur country's firmware. And backup the root file to your computer and copy it to sd card ONLY IF IT GETS DELETED.

problem after cocore6 flash
i flashed cocore 6(TWRP 2.5) yesterday and and now i cant copy anything in my internal sd & the thing is same thing had happened before when i flashed XXLQB on gingerbread so to solve it i had to clear all caches and did factory reset(even when i had done this all after first flash) and after that flashed rom again & did previous procedure again then only i got back copying function.
is something wrong with my SGSA only that when i flash something this problem pops up? plz advice any solution thanx in advance.
P.S. i want to flash custom roms in future but i cant due to this problem :'(

[Q] Help! Encryption failed!

Hello, today I booted up my phone and BOOM! Encryption error. So I flashed a stock rom via ODIN with no luck. Download mode and recovery both work, but I can't mount /data and internal sd card. I read somewhere online that I need a PIT file to restore the partitions. Is this true? Can someone upload the GS3 LTE pit file for me?
Thanks!
i'm on strong indication it seems u've attacked by emmc mbc encryptor malware (/Seftad). Its main goal attack is to encrypt ur master boot record of ur internal phone storage where the bootloader chip in so ur phone cant even entering to bootloader to makes it boot.
did u have a proper mobile security app/antivirus/malware installed? I'm using avast n I'm ok.
imo all u have to do is to gain full wipe & format (if possible) from recovery then go to download mode to flash stock rom by odin with repartition/PIT checked.
Grab i9305 PIT file here

Well I can get into CWM and Download mode. Isn't there something I can do?
Fixed it! Repartitioned my 64GB external SD in 4gb emmc 3 in CWM and formatted /data and /data/media (/sdcard). Then mounted /data and flashed a stock rom with CWM. I don't know if partition External sdcard worked, but everything is fixed now! If anyone has any questions I'm happy to answer them!

Mount the card on pc using an adapter or working phone with mass storage option, then format with standard procedure (on Windows right click on removable disk and format), if doesn't work try to flash again stock JB, you can try another version if your device isn't simlocked to the carrier.

recovery.fstab is a part of the recovery image into kernel, you can't copy-paste it, you can only touch vold.fstab with root access. But this is not your problem because you have flashed stock ROM! As I said earlier: try to flash again a different version of stock JB or try downgrading to see if the problem is resolved.

Try with re-partition of your SD card. Maybe it is in ntfs format, as far I remember we do not have NTFS support out of the box (only with CoCore kernel).

First - what do you want to do? vold.fstab will swap your internal and external memory. And sure it will not help you see your SD card on PC or recovery.
I had problem with non visible SD card in recovery on GB - and solution was to partition it again.
Is not only to swap, but also to set mount points. Yes, I forget about repartition, said to format current partition in fat32 but he said that with an adapter or another device works

Hey mate, thx for the great work. Used 6gb pit since you posted it and it worked fine so far, now I'm switching for a bigger 8Gb partition, need more space. :good::good:
I will add a little OT question (I'm new of forum can't write a pm for that, sorry!): could you be able to mod i9105P (Samsung Galaxy S2 plus) pit files? This phone have always low space for app and it isn't really supported by community (probably because of low numbers). I could be able to extract pit files if you can mod them!

Yeah can't see why not, PM me when you have the pit, sorry for late reply!
Combine Device-Memory and USB-Storage
Hey,
wouldn't it be nice to change the partition-layout of the Note N7000 to something like the layout on the S3, so I don't need to use an external SD for my Pics, etc. or change the size of the Device-memory every time I've installed to many apps. So i would suggest to combine the former Device-Memory and USB-Storage to ONE big new Device-Storage which should be used like its used on the S3.
So the Storage-settings should only list the Device-memory and how it's used by the different types of Files/apps.
Is that even possible? or does it recommend some additional rom modding?

Hi @metalgearhathaway, I can (and I will) provide pit files, there is a correct way/software to extract them? I can't send you PM because I'm a new member, so please follow this Q&A 3D.
I found this thread about the phone (the 2 variants, i9105 and i9105p, last one just with NFC), with some pit files as attachment: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428753
Can they be useful (last update Nov 2013) or do you need fresh ones?
Same here: service firmware+pit files: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2243546
Thx for your effort
@Elwood1990: I think metalgearhathaway's mod pit files already do what you mean/need: just use 16Gb pit files, and you will have one big partition for appz and more.
But wouldn't the OS or some Apps still try to write save some appdata and stuff on the no longer existant USB-Storage especially the camera, and I'm not quite sure about that, but I think it's not possible to access the Device-Memory per UBS on Windows, so I couldn't put stuff on my phone that way anymore...
Well, it's def impossibile it happens. If you use the 8Gb pit file, 8Gb from all your 16Gb will be granted for apps, and about 5Gb for app data, photo, vids and more. And everything, even device-memory, still avaible trought USB. You just need to connect phone to PC, install USB drivers if WinUpdate don't do it by its own, and wait until N7000 appears as an external device. It will have 2 HD: external SD storage (your SD, if you got it) and device's memory (it will be about 5Gb). BTW with a Linux file browser or with a root allowed app (like ES File Manager with Root option turned on ON, or Root Explorer), you can see every byte of your phone.

No you can't, it's like formatting your windows pc without reinstalling the OS after all. The tar.md5 files is Samsung stock firmware, you can't avoid to flash it with partitions files.
@metalgearhathaway: any news? XD
plz guide me.... thnx for ur attention
I have n7000 32gb...and i have to use samsung 4.1.2 stock rom only for some reasons...
Plzzz guide me to use your 32gb model pit file to increase my data partition step by step...
I am rooted by philz...
Thank u a lot....
Hey, just follow OP guidelines: shut down your note, restart it in download mode (power key+home key+ volume down key), start Odin on your pc, connect N7000 to pc (I hope you previously connected it once, so you get USB drivers installed), select 32gb pit file from @metalgearhathaway and select your samsung stock rom (get it, the latest for your country/model from samfirmware). Flash and it's done.
@metalgearhathaway: any news about my question? I can't PM you yet
Im currently on Dirty Unicorns 8.2 an thinking about getting a 6gb partition for my apps. Anyone here tried it coming from this rom and can give me some tips?
I just changed my data partition to 6gb. Thanks for this guide!!! I have one issue though. I couldnt flash back my Backup i made in TWRP and I also cant get Titanium Backup to restore any of the Backups I made. It just stay at 0%. I was able to install Apps from playstore and apk file from sd card. Is this issue known and mb someone can help me?
I am trying to re-partition my internal SD hard however the ODIN does not recognizes my device.
I tried with Odin 3 Ver.1.85 and Odin 3.09.
I am currently using in CarbonROM.
I have Kies installed in my PC. I even tried with installing latest Samsung Driver and three Different USB Cables.
When powered on the phone is recognized as MTP device but during Download mode I get "Device Not Recognized" error.
Please help.

I reflashed CM11 Nightly..and then tried and it worked..

hey guys..i recently installed xubuntu and i was wondering if i can repartition my note or do i need windows for this..thanks
as far as I know there is no Odin for Linux, you need a windows machine to run it

between, changing the partition size to 6gb is perfect if you want to use ART runtime and never run out of space
thanks for this
Thanks,I guess 6gb is enough for me..I will try it and see how it goes..

You might need to try a different recovery (like CWM or TWRP) or you will have to repartition your phone using a pit file in ODIN
I have exact same problem as you... I tried repartition with pit, darkys Resurrection rom db data but nothing seems to work. Have you resolved the issue? When I flash darkys rom I get rfs problem but I can't figure out how to add cache.rfs to Odin, any thoughts on that??

But did you format your internal storage? You should flash froyo as what you said in the other thread.
Woke up one day to a boot loop, don't know how to format storage since it can't mount sdcard and there's no way for windows to recognize it in this state! Do you believe that Froyo will somehow solve this problem?
How do you suggest I format storage?
Thanks for your help

If you had custom recovery, it would be quite simple. But since you are on stock, this is quite different then. When plugging in your phone into the computer after flashing a pit file via odin, you can't access the internal sd card, that's ok, because you need to format it via custom recovery or via computer. When plugged into a computer (keep your phone on recovery mode), the computer should ask if you want to format the sd card, select yes and format it. Then the sd card should be accessible again. Not sure if this is the same case on i9000 but should be similar. Even if recovery can't find the internal sd card after using pit file, the pc should still be able to detect it. I don't know why windows can't detect your phone's sd card. If you could flash a custom recovery via ODIN, it could bring you a step closer to finding the solution to your problem.

I'll help you with cache.rfs. Use the attached file in ODIN and select it for PDA. Don't know if it's too late but it's here anyway.

I finally flashed Froyo and got the option to format SD card in the recovery but it looks like my storage is corrupted (posted photo). From what I can understand from some research, it seems that emmc has two partitions and one of them got corrupted.
I read somewhere that I can convert microSD so that the phone will recognize it as primary storage but that requires some serious "magic" with ADB and is beyond my capabilities and probably not worth the effort.
I used this phone for work (my phone is LG G2) and I`m seriously suprised that it`s lasted for this long!
Thanks everyone again for their help!
