Stuck on recovery menu - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i tryed to flash a rom didnt really know what i was doing because when i search how to flash a rom on the g1 nothing comes up so i put the rom as a update.zip installed it and now my phone boots then reboots into recovery not sure what to do. (do i flash the 1.0 stock rom? if so where is a download link for that)

I take it you're not root and have stock recovery? If so google cyanogenmod wiki root htc dream, follow instructions
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium

Im not able to root it i cant get to the startup screen it might have root still but i think i need stock rom

So you were rooted @ somepoint?
Can you boot into bootloader and write down everything on that screen, also what recovery did you use to try and flash a rom? Custom or stock?
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium

when i get home ill try to see if i can boot into bootloader.i didnt flash any recovery dont know how all of the threads to flash it didnt work i tryed flashing the rom with stock recovery

Yeah you can't do that. Do what I said earlier, google search cyanogenmod wiki dream root, follow instructions

They recently made some changes, don't have time to look into it now but I'm sure its either working fine or it will be up again soon, for now try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14193280
Really you just need to root and install custom recovery but as you have no os right now you will need to flash the dreaimg.nbh and go from the begining

so i only want to install a gingerbread rom (maby this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=997055) but i tryed the root methood you showed me and got to step two and dont know what too and it restored my phone to android 1.0 again can you help me out a little bit?

OK, if you are following that guide and completed step one then you should be at android 1.5
if not then you never finished step one. Alternatively if you are still on android 1.0 then you can do the telnet method, download it from the market
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium

ok next?

so your on 1.0 and have telnet? if so then you need a recovery.img, amonra is what i prefer but use whatever. name it to recovery.img (if your on window it may hide extensions so name it recovery) and put on root of sd (not in a folder)
now open keypad, hit "enter" key twice and then type telnetd
now open telnet app and type
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
dont do anything but this and you may need to do it a few times, you know it worked when you see a ## if you get an error back out and do it again
no boot to recovery, update radio and spl then flash custom rom
you may then want to update recovery and radio again (2708+) do get newest roms

After this all works let me know and I can hellp you update further if you want newer roms, or just read up on ezterrys thread 2708+ update

Well once yo have amonra recovery you can then upgrade radio then SPL to the ones I mentioned, doing another combo or doing the SPL before radio could result in a brick. Once this is completed and verified (boot while holding camera and check) then you can flash a ROM, and no ginger yoshi won't work until you upgrade further, for now search out one of the ROMs I mentioned and use one of them (probably need to flash appropriate gapps after ROM too)

HELP - Just about to flash new radio/kernal/ HBOOT for extra 15mb

I am unable to flash in fastboot, so it has to be done in RA-Recovery...
I have 7-8 different zip files..( 27.08 radio, Original 0013 HBOOT, spoof 1.33.2009, etc..)
I have everything I need to flash. If someone can just tell me EXACTLY how to do it in Recovery and with what files... Also, do I need the spoof SPL for CM nightlies, or is it fixed now..
Thanks again

Flash Radio 2708 and reboot and during boot, reboot into recovery...
Then flash ezBiffTestKernel20101106-2708_S and that is it....
My problem is that I have CM6-nightly 250 installed and I was told it needs to be reinstalled a different way.. I do have SPOOF SPL, the other CM6- modded one too...
Someone help... please

flash 1.33.0013d
Also, do a bart backup of your current rom in recovery. After you flash the radio you should just wipe everything and then restore your bart backup. Then after it restores flash the anyKernel.
Or, you can flash the spoof spl after the radio and then flash whatever rom you want....as long as you flash the kernel after the rom.

HELP! I can't flash a new radio!

Anyone can help me?

I don't understand... Install is complete or what? How to check?
Please help me, this is my first G1 device and i want a fast and stable ROM (Froyo by Laszlo).
Be careful you read up before you start flashing radios, a brick is easy if your careless. To check your current radio and spl just hold the camera button while powering on. This screen will tell you what's installed.

He needs to *remove cmtd* (by flashing fr_remove_xxx.zip) before flashing a new radio or spl by recovery, or he needs to flash the new radio by flastboot (which I suggest, because it's much more secure). Everything about cmtd you can read on Firerat's Github repository.
Removing cMTD
Yes, you may like to remove cMTD The primary reason for removing cMTD is to flash a radio or hboot via recovery. I'm not going to go into detail here, but if you can then consider using fastboot instead of recovery for this. Sometimes you have no option, recovery will have to do..
there are few ways to remove cMTD
With early versions you just flashed an original recovery.img
In later versions, I supplied an extra remove.zip which can still be used.
since version 1.5.9-Alpha4, you just set systemMB to 0
adb shell
sed -i s/systemMB=.*\ /systemMB=0 /sdcard/mtdpartmap.txt
then flash AutoPatch-v1.5.9-Beta1-CustomMTD_S.zip, format routine, reboot to recovery If you are restoring a rom, then flash AutoPatch-v1.5.9-Beta1-CustomMTD_S.zip (twice) to make sure the boot.img is patched

I understand this, that's the correct method? :
#1: plug the phone to my PC and install the drivers (need drivers?)
#2: run adb via "run" on the start menu
#3: write the resize command ("sed"? not "set"?)
#4: unplug the phone and launch to recovery, then run the AutoPatch-v1.5.9-Beta1-CustomMTD_S.zip (where can i find?)
#5: reboot to recovery, full wipe, install radio
#6: then reboot to recovery, full wipe, install hboot
#7: then reboot to recovery, full wipe, install ROM?
To remove cmtd you can also download FR-remove-v1.5.6-CustomMTD_S.zip, copy it onto your SD-card, reboot into recovery and flash the zip. That's all, now you have removed your custom partition layout, *but* your ROM installed will no longer boot up *and* you should clean up everything by either flashing Ohsaka's Superwipe or doing a
Code:
fastboot erase system -w
Now you have a clean phone with standard partition layout and you can start from there to install what you need. As always I suggest: Read before flashing! Especially if you want to go to the 27.08 /0013d combo you should read and understand Terry's thread before starting to flash.
Uhm, how to enter fastboot?
edit: i'm on fastboot mode but i don't have built on my PC.
Nah, i flashed the 1.33.0013d hboot via recovery and installed the Froyobylaszlo ROM. The radio needed fastboot, but i have a little problem... I installed the SDK, installed the drivers, but if i tryin to flash radio via fastboot, this searching for the dev for ever (waiting for the device)
The ROM is awesome, fast, have much of RAM, etc. - however not perfectly. I have 256MB Swap and 512MB ext4, but a few app/game, like Galcon and Opera Mini (my recomended apps) frozen at the beginning black screen and all browser (stock, Dolphins) force closing... user error? That's the missing radio's effect?
I thank all helps.

well in those past two years you have updated to the .13d spl and this a hacked up spl to give you more ram. it isn't fully s-off but rather you are limited.
not sure what you have done to your phone so I can't tell you how to fix it. my suggestion would be to fastboot -w or superwipe from recovery, then flash your rom again (and whatever kernel or mods you want to) also maybe stay away from rom mangaer and also movd to amonra recovery. again only suggestions being I don't know what you did you may as well start fresh

But now I can't use all of the apps I bought that require root access anymore. This kinds of defeats the purpose of having root. And I also still have the SU icon in my app drawer.

well you can flash the new recovery via terminal emulator if you want, or you can attempt to do it with rom manager (not a big fan of rom manager, kinda sucks)
superwipe scripts can be flashed via recovery (cw or amonra) flashing the rom again in recovery
again not sure what you did, you only said what dosent work, this should make your root apps work
just wiping clean and and a clean install of the rom should make them work

Sent from the Redlight District.
well updating your recovery doesn't have much to do with updating your spl but it doesn't mean you shouldn't
the most updated spl for the dream is the .13d
if you have something else then I suggest it as you get acess to additional ram if you do (~14mb)
if you do make sure you first have the appropriate radio or you could brick your phone, either the .25 or the .08 are the only radios that work with the .13d spl
to check what you have right now, power on while holding the camera button
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
I have that info on my first post of my thread. Is what I've posted the correct SPL & Radio for this to work?
Sent from the Redlight District.
you have the most updated radio and spl, although with the .13d hboot you can not flash a new recovery via fastboot, but you should still be able to via terminal emulator or if you can find the proper image in a .zip and be flashed through your current recovery. of course you should also be able to flash an alternative (amonra) recovey with rom manager. choose whatever way is easier.
and remember that flashing amonra recovery is only a suggestion and will not by itself fix your problem, I just prefer it over clockwork on the g1
mostly you should be concerned with backing up what is needed, wipeing fully, and the flashing a new rom

like isaid earlier you have the best spl for the dream, the only downfall is the semi s-on. but this is only in the fastboot sense, it isn't true s-on and with th is spl you can still have root
easiest way to boot to recovery (if rom allows) hold power, choose reboot, choose reboot recovery. you can also reboot recovery via adb (adb reboot recovery) or various apps allow this too
if this is to much info, power off. then power on while holding the home button

my guess is your fine, it lools like you have a working amonra 1.7 which is good and have the 27.08 radio which is sorta good but you still have the stock spl, so now you want to change your radio and spl, then posibly update both radio and spl again, then flash new rom, try this
flash the radio first in this link, then the death spl both via recovery
next flash the .08 or .25 radio and then the .13d spl via fastboot
now flash rom

I tried the orange-1.58.73.2.nbh via fastboot. Is that the right one? With this i get the error "not allow 0028002". I get the same error with flashing the dreaming.nbh.
so it should be done via bootloader not fastboot, a .nbh fil is to be put on the root of sd card, named dreaming.nbh
then hold power + camera, when your phone boots it should find the file and ask you to proceed, say yes
is this the method you did or were you using fastboot?
try again, use the orange.nbh first, name it dreaming.nbh, this way you don't have to reroot, if it fails take the rc29 dreaming.nbh and try that one, you may need to make a goldcard
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium

You are right, i used the bootloader and i named it dreaming.nbh. Gonna try the rc29 now.
A question to the goldcard: as far as i understood you can create a goldcard only with a working os!?
Okay now i tried the RC29 but same error again. Im pretty sure that my g1 is the european version
I was looking for a tutorial to create a goldcard but there were only those where you need a working OS...

no sir i nothing do in this phone i dont know how to root
and i have no custom recover
and i give u some information about this phone
model number=android dev phone 1
firmwer ver =1.5
basband version=62.33.20.08H_1.22.12.29
KERNEL VERSION=2.6.27-00392-G8312BAF
BUILD NUMBER=DREAM_DEVPHONE-USERDEBUG 1.5 CRB2114201 TEST-KEY
then you are already rooted, that is a developers phone which is pre rooted. you need to load a custom recovery (amonra is best in my opinion) and should also upgrade you radio and spl, google cyanogen wiki root dream, in that guide you will see a link for amonra, downloaded to sdcard, rename it recovery.img
now download a terminal emulator from the market, open it and type
flash_image recovery/sdcard/recovery.img
wait a few seconds then reboot to recovery
if that works then you can move on from there
