Hey guys.
Just thought I would let you know I have been hard at work on Foshow. It now has Couchpotato support, and a whole new look and feel.
I hope you like it.

Most imp tablet specific app needed?

Hi guys,
I really want to love the Xoom, I like android a lot and the hardware is too good (at least at this point)
But I not in place where I can drop my iPad for good. The reasons are pure app specific, if I get these decent on Xoom... it's bye bye iPad.
So this is a quasi-'need help' thread. to double check if I'm not missing anything
1. Magazine app - Something like Zinio, I depend too much on it and couldn't find even an ETA on when Zinio will be available for Android
~ Solved. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11939617&postcount=5
2. Comics reader - I know we have the Comics app but I need a cbr/cbz reader. I tired AVC but doesn't seam to work on Honeycomb
~ Solved. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11939617&postcount=6
3. A UI-nice IM app. I love the Gtalk app but need facebook and skype IM app
4. Netflix app.
5. Tablet specific twitter, facebook, foursquare apps. I know iPad doesn't have FB or FS apps but this would be nice
6. Now the big big deal... I consider all these tablets as a 'consumption' devices, and the biggest thing I 'consume' is movies and tv shows...
The best thing about iPad is, I just launch iTunes app then rent a movie, wait for sometime and then enjoy the movie...
Is there a way I can get this experience on a Xoom? I know that right now most of the HD formats play on tegra but is there any hope to get this?
~~~~~~~~~~
Disclaimer: Please don't pounce on this post and call me a iFreak. I'm not trying to diss the Xoom or Android. I did search and try apps to see if I could get all this... but couldn't find a way. So before I make a decision I just wanted some opinions.
thanks
Don't forget the completely absent Google Docs app! Someone please tell me its in the works....
If you download Spare parts and unselect Compatibility mode AVC works great. i have been using it for days now with no FC.
Zinio works great. I use it on my Xoom and Galaxy Tab.
Have you tried jj comic viewer for comics? i cant confirm it works on 3.0 but it is the best ive found pre HC
A Market app that works...
Searches properly so you can find those Apps you want that may exist but you would never know.
Recognizes applications that have updates properly.
Doesn't randomly open other app's.
Actually installs Apps the first time you ask for them.
And why Google is at it, Tablet Section - more direct support on the Web Market while the programmer who is assigned to the tablet market app figures out how to code - bug fix.
(yes I am frustrated with the market today)
I don't remember if manga watcher loads cbz and crz files but in general it is really good app. It was recently updated to load local files from sd so it might be worth checking out. I know the dev does alot of work and updates it frequently. You might even write him and ask if he plans to add support for these files if they aren't already supported. I bought the full app and have been happy with it ever since.
All I have to say is Samurai Executioner.
looks nice, but why aren't you using http://developer.android.com/reference/android/accounts/AccountManager.html ?
Asking for login/pass with internet permissions will be suspicious to many users, especially when it's unnecessary for what you're doing.
Looks nice, though as ZanshinG1 pointed out, Account Manager would be a much better way of using the Google account.
Better than Newsr? How does it compare?
I quite like the look of this, but I'm really loathe to buy a Reader app when it's only a matter of time until Google themselves release one that's optimized for tablets. I haven't bought Newsr for the same reason.
If you release an ad supported version then I'd jump all over it.
We just released version 1.1 with integrated credentials support - enjoy!
Again, thanks for the input
Maybe we will release an ad version. But we would rather not bloat the interface with ads. I dont think google will release a good reader app for tablets, the browser one is no good and the one for phones isnt really great either in my opinion. Thats why we thought of doing one that looks the way we want for our selves..
As it works now, the news wont get marked as read. When you sync it purges the news and downloads new news. So you can decide, tell us how you want it and we will make it work like that.
Newsr is a small investment and very good. Actively developed. Even if Google releases its own Reader app that you prefer, you will have gotten your money's worth. What I really want is a scrollable Reader widget which allows me to select which feed or label I want in the widget.
I like the look of this Honey Reader. When it sorts out the login Account Manager issue, I'll give it a whirl. Price is fair, too. I think people forget they can still do 15 minute try and return for no cost if they want. It's important that we support a development community for Droid if we want it to become as robust as Apple's.
Edit: just realized the account manager issue is resolved. Off to try this now.
(Just toss me a PM if you decide to do that, please.)
Tried it. Great potential. 100 max items is not usable for me. I have wayyyyy too many labels.
rPlay for iOS - a ChromeCast receiver submitted to Apple Store
This app is now available in Apple Store:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/rplay/id692511073?ls=1&mt=8
I submitted an app to Apple store, called rPlay, which does Chromecast emulation. The app is being reviewed right now. Here is the description:
"rPlay tunrs your iPhone/iPad/iPod into a chromecast device, so you can stream music and video from another device using chromecast enabled apps, such as YouTube and Google Music, etc. You can in turn stream from your iOS device to your Apple TV, this way, you can stream chromecast media to your Apple TV."
I hope Apple can approve this FREE app.
It supports YouTube/GoogleMusic/Custom Apps, chrome tab browsing is not there yet due to the lack of features in Safari browser.
This is a YouTube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4urxecUbAk
Some screenshots are attached:
We will also release a Windows and Android version soon. On non-iOS platforms, rPlay is much more than ChromeCast, it also has AirPlay/AirPlay Mirroring, and upcomping Miracast emulation, etc.
Some screenshots for the Windows version, will be freely available, most likely next week or two.
Windows version supports AirPlay Mirroring, ChromeCast (YouTube/Google Music/Browser Tab mirroring/Custom Apps), etc.
Can't wait. Sounds awesome!!
Will this support Netflix?
Do you mean netfix chromecasting?
This is not easy, unless netflix app is available on that platform, and assuming it takes the same parameters as the netflix version on the real chromecast device. We will definitely give it a try.
Right now, Windows version supports all features, except netflix.
The app is now "In Review" status, should have results in next few days.
I will post the .ipa file here soon for people with jailbreak devices if not approved.
A quick update: back and forth a few times, the app was rejected, and I had to make some modifications, now re-submitted, and waiting for review again.
still "Waiting for review" status (for 4 days now). The first date I submitted this app was Aug. 22, so much waste of time.
Hey, thanks to huisinro for this great job. I received notification on sundy night about the iOS app has been approved. Gave it a try running YouTube app on my android device and using my iPad 1 as Chromecast receiver. Works out of the box. I've wrote a blog entry Use your iPad as a Chromecast receiver - and now I'm eager to get in touch with a Windows and Android port of rPlay.
Google Posts Massive User Experience Guide For Chromecast Developers
Hi this is great news! Chromecast is getting its turn with a brand new User Experience Guide!
I read this article in androidpolice.com in this link:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...lopers-still-no-word-on-the-whitelist-policy/
The guide is here:
https://developers.google.com/cast/design_consider
Google Cast is a technology that allows Android and iOS mobile apps and Chrome web apps to “cast” content - like video, audio, and screen sharing (mirroring) - to Cast-ready devices like Google Chromecast.
Koush saw it in the source code of KitKat so yes it will be coming but it may be restricted. and dependent on the Unit Manufacturer for implementation.
Which suggests it may not work for apps (they would use the current methods) and be a Device and ROM specific feature.
The fact that it will be possible will make those restriction more like Guidelines than rules once Devs get their hands on how it works.
I am loving where this is all going! As I always say..it is only a matter of time.
Also the guide makes it clear that the current Chromecast is only one implementation. I think the rumors of a Nexus TV being announced early next year are probably true and it will include native Cast support.
Yes I can see some Smart TVs adding this capability natively at some point. Biggest user complaint they get is they hate the Menu and navigation on the TV and this might make it easier to create an App that would do all this for their TVs in a much better way!
The good news on this Google release is it seems to suggest the SDK is about to drop to the FULL PUBLIC...
It was invitation only before the Hackathon and I think the Hackathon was really meant to test the SDK to see if it was ready for Public consumption...
Once it goes full public expect to see a FLOOD of Apps supporting CCast maybe even Games where the video displays on the TV but the phone or tablet just has control functions. Would open the door to much more sophisticated control options in the vain of what PC has been able to do via it's keyboard.
Yes, indeed. Lately, I have found myself wanting to use YouTube more and more on a big screen and, even though my TV is only 2 years old, navigating to the TV app is a painful experience.
I bought my Chromecast specifically for YouTube and for me it was worth the $35 just to be able to access it without having to trawl through the clunky TV menus Everything that came last week and the features still to come have been a has been a great bonus .
[Beta][4.2+] Android Auto re-imagined for phones and tablets
Ever since Android Auto was announced at Google I/O last year, I really wanted to have it in my car. Unfortunately, I am not in the market for a new car, or even a $800 car stereo that supports Android Auto.
With that in mind, I set out to make an app called AutoMate that gives a similar experience to Android Auto. After five months of work, I am close to releasing a beta version. I am very excited to share some early screen shots with you guys today.
Would you see yourself using something like this? I'd love to hear some thoughts and opinions! I can't give an exact release date just yet, but I am hoping for the end of March.
I also created a g+ community that I will be using when the app is ready for beta testing. Please feel free to join to get updates about development.
I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Tnx broo
Congrats men, look very similar to android auto, is a very good option, i test your app and report, and also tell to my friends
Thats got alot potential man! looking good. I've got a in-dash nexus 7 ready to test
AMAZING!
Sign me right up!
Great work man ! it looks very promising, I surely would like to install it on my galaxy Note 1 running CM12 !
if the app can be triggered by connecting a Bluetooth device or a car-mount (Driving mode) that would be perfect !
keep up the good work, best luck
Correct me if wrong, but AutoMate is (or will be) a "regular" app, right ?
It is not Android Auto, or a direct alternative to AA. IE if I build an app with Android Auto features, it will not automatically have those features used in the same way as AA.
I mean no offense, and I am not attempting to criticize what this app is doing, but I think it needs to be made clear that this is not AA, nor is/will it be compatible with AA.
For these reasons, perhaps a post here in the AA section might be misplaced.
If it does what it does well, and people like it, that's great, and I look forward to seeing an APK posted.
Can't wait to try this out in my car install. Would be more than happy to test it for you if needed. Keep up the good work!!
Correct, it's a regular app. Sorry if I was not clear. It's not affiliated with AA or compatible with AA in any way. The reason I posted it here was because some users expressed frustrations with not being able to run the AA UI on their phones, and this app provides an alternative.
Why is this tagged as Beta? it's not available to download. This is at most a teaser, in which I don't see the point. Post when you actually have something to share.
I have been using the beta with my in-dash Nexus 7 for a few days and I like it, I like it a lot, it is well designed and easy to navigation however it is a real shame (due to Android / Google play service limitations) that turn by turn directions will leave the app.
I suppose paying for the premium features and having it as the home screen is a good workaround.
Check out the OP's Google+ page. There's a link to download the APK to test it out.
So would this app replace the launcher on my android head unit in my car or is it meant for the phone side of it?
