Hi
I know that 2011-12 Xperia phone's can detect & use flash disks (otg=USB on the go)
I'm wondering if it's possible to attach & use flash disk on our lovely x8?
If yes, which rom+kernel supports this?
If no ,so what are requirements? Will this possible in the future?

Currently no kernel supports this. But devs are working on it.
This question is already asked..
Use search please
see my app sig at your own risk :
sent from my W8 running on armv7 processor problem??

I searched & found the right answer, damn

Theoretically our phone (and all msm7x27 based phone) support the usb otg function BUT our hardware not support it. You can enable the otg function in the kernel, and you can try any app from the market, but it will NOT work. The usb socket on our phone NOT give power to the connected device. Maybe it can be work if you give power to the connected device from another power source, but basically this is useless (connect an usb device to x8 AND an external power supply, so forget it)

I would like to know if USB OTG is possible on X8?
I have a OTG cable which I tested on Xperia Arc S, and it works there.
Actually the usb flash memory LED turns on, and phone recognizes it but can't use it because it's not LiveDock or however they call their official dock.
but the point is cable works.
I have tried the same cable and flash drive on X8. drive's LED don't turn on and logcat doesn't write any massage.
It seems like nothing happened. nothing at all.
i tried this with a few alfs kernel + GDX combination. and now with last ones v06 and v022.
alfsamsung, once, on his kernel thread, told that USB OTG support is in the kernel.
So, I wan't to ask, is or hardware not capable for OTG, or something else has to be done in kernel/ROM.
did anybody else try this.
I just want to know, not to hope for it anymore, if it's not possible.
Thank you
P.S. I also tested with Hard drive that has external power supply
its qvestion for nAa and alfassamsung
Well, i hope then, they or anybody else that knows this will see this post and answer.
And my thanks goes to alfsamsung in advance, because he did say he included support in kernel, but can't test it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19237215&highlight=usb+otg#post19237215
And I have cable but nothing happens when I use it.
not a single logcat massage.
That's why I want to know if hardware supports it at all?
Thank you
So can we use USB OTG with X8 or what? Does it work with nAa or ISC kernel? I have no OTG-cable to test with, and I want to be sure that it will be working before buy one.

Why? are there some hardware problems or something? ZTE Blade have the same hardware (CPU & GPU) and support OTG
It wont work, it need new usb kernel libs

It is not that simple. New libs need to be compiled specifically for the X8 as the ZTE blade and the X8 are different devices.

I don't know actually. I never tried bcoz I don't have an OTG cable. Just found the information on net and posted here. May be some one can try who have the cable.

Hi @ll,
is there already a software, ROM or just a kernel which have the USB Host Mode Support supported for the new ICS Roms?
I have now an OTG Cable with active USB Switch and i wanted to try some things like attaching an USB Mouse, Keyboard or USB Stick.
At the moment i have Texasice ICS Rom installed. If i attach any USB Device i can see some action with the dmesg command, but nothing else happing. I don´t know if the ICS Kernel have USB Host Mode support already inside.
Anyone any idea?
Thanks

Thanks for moving the thread to the right section.
Hi Developers,
It would be very helpful, if you guys port a ROM having kernel Support for USB-OTG support in Our HTC Incredible s.
Awaiting for a long to directly access the Pen drive, PS3 Controller, Hard disk and So on..
PS: Referred in Qualcomm website and found our processor Snapdragon MSM8255 can support USB OTG.
Please refer below threads to have a idea on the same,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1588940
http://sven.killig.de/android/N1/2.2/usb_host/
Thanks!
From what I have seen, then no.
Does the Incredible S even support OTG? AFAIK the phone needs to supply power through the USB port to work, not sure if this phone does.
is there a certain answer for this ? yes or no ? i got otg cable but it doesnt work so what gonna happen now. my rom is JB 4.1.2 cyanvivox currently. as you say it doesnt supply power since the light of the plugged mouse doesnt light up
If I am not mistaken OTG is related to kernel. Which means you need to flash a kernel with working OTG. You could try any Ice Cream Sandwich rom for example project x with redux 0.8 kernel. See if it works.

well I am not sure which kernel but I know 1 of the kernels they said they added support for OTG, maybe you should report in that thread. Check the kernel threads 1 of the devs said it was implemented in their kernel but needed test. So report to him

Did you use a cable with external power source? I don't think the phone can supply its own power.
which jelly bean rom supports usb otg? I want to connect my pen drive on my phone (samsung galaxy i9000 s). is there any way i can do this? if yes then what is the procedure?
that's not about rom that's about kernel.
take a look at devil kernel i think i have seen it there

No idea. I have never used OTG. But can't you just flash it and find out? It's probably faster than waiting for a concrete reply. Semaphore kernel has USB host driver, but I am not sure if that's OTG.

Sorry for being late.
I dont check the threads much
But for your information most of kernels support usb otg.
You can connect your pen drive by using a usb hub with power adapter
Because phone can not supply power fo a pen drive

I've been trying to do this for some time. Using X-Bean 3.0 & Semaphore 2.6.2s.
Hi everyone, as I said in the title I have some questions about the usb host support on galaxy s gt i9000 with cyanogenmod 10 stable.
Everything started with the desire to attach my xbox 360 controller to my phone, unfortunately I realized it was not so easy on my model; so I started digging on the internet trying to find a way to achieve what I was seeking.
Everything that has to do with the usb host support is only a matter of software (kernel) or harware aswell?
Is my i9000 doomed to stay with this support forever?
And the Big question, does cyanogenmod 10 have this support? Is the kernel of this wersion supposed to have this support?
Thanks to everyone who can help me...
Nice. Today i have near the same question. But, i think, i can help you a bit.
The USB-Host-Support is coming with the kernel. One of them with support should be Semaphore.
But i have at least the same question.
I have Fishears Rom installed, but can´t get the app "usb host controller" working, because it is missing the S3C USB Host driver.
Does anyone know, how i can get it working with fishears?
Thanks

Have you tried Semaphore Kernel? I think, this will run. Can´t try it atm, because it doesn´t work with físhears

mmm...semaphore eh? do I have to change rom? are u talking about kernels only?
IMO this Feature is coming for the sgs with specific kernel. And Semaphore Kernel has this feature in his Feature-List.

Most 4.2 kernel already supported USB otg, but needed external power host on it, don't know bout Xbox but if our on 4.2, juz find some otg controller on stores n try it
If not, need to find some kernel that support but most otg supported kernel starts at cm9 as base.
Semaphore kernel is provide good usb-host compatibility. I using it now. Look at this message http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41939030&postcount=552
I will try another populary kernels later.
help me

You can do it by using semaphore kernel. But you will need external supply
