[Q] X8 Usb Mass Storage not working except stock rom - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Suddenly my usb mass storage function not working in any other custom roms. Only when i flash my device to stock rom then it works.
I've tried GingerDX, MiniCM but neither works. Recently i reinstalled my windows then this issue occurs , before it was working fine.
When i tap usb mass storage then nothing happens in my pc, no disk shows. But when i open minitool partition wizard there shows a "bad disk"
and under ms disk management unallocated space shows. What kind of problem it is. Please somebody help me. It is really eating me.

Tnx for your reply.
i've tried that already. the usb mass storage only works only in official stock rom and when i open the sd card by a card reader. only when i use custom rom it refuses to show. I guess it is a usb driver problem. But i am a totally noob & cant figure out any solution. & also my phone shows as x10 in pc companion. why is that?

Use Gordon's gate PC app(this will reinstall drivers)(included in flashtools app) or uninstall driver from computer/manager (in windows) PCC will reinstall driver when you attach your x8
This may not work cause mass storage is plug&play
sent using" ultimate - ics - standard"

Have you tried it with a different pc? Was it working there? Tried changing usb port?

@OP from Bangladesh (I am too)
Try what Gogeta said. Also re-install GG drivers as jay-z-s said. And make sure you format it in FAT or FAT32 depending on the size of the sdcard.

How many partitions are there on sdcard???
Stock kernel does not support swap partition, if it's there, remove it
Hit thanks buddy if this worked

check your partition in link2sd. maybe no space or full.so it cant detect.
try to recreate your partition.using mini partition tool.
minimum edition
Usb Mount sd from recovery then repair it using windows chkdisk
(Better to use card reader if u have one )

Phone don't show up on computer (2.3.6)

My phone doesn't show up on any computer :/ the phone is charging while on usb, but nothing shows up. I am on stock non rooted 2.3.6 baseband I9070XXLK2.
The problem first occupied when I updated the phone for the first time (in January), and I am using the latest firmware available for me. How can I solve this?
Thanks!

Try (re)installing kies. Maybe it is drivers issue. If it is chargin then it mist be software related. Maybe you got developer settings > debug USB enabled. You can also try communication>usb settings>connect as usb storage(or however it is in English ;p - i got it in Polish)

And read all i've wrote in Q&A main thread. In my case, it was sadly a hardware issue

Didn't tried on linux but it is possible to transfer files to phone that do not have sd card. My windows sees it as mp3 player - I got winamp with auto mount as usb storage option enabled. When entered into that player icon i can see 2 partitions : phone and sdcard - internal and external memory .
Based on that i guess that it should work the same on linux.

Developed by SquallATF from a Chinese forum:
http://bbs.gfan.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=5928024&extra=page%3D2
1.ROOT your phone and backup your external SD card!
2.Download the .ZIP file(here or here) and extract
3.Connect your phone to PC and run runme.bat
4.When asked for ROOT in your phone, choose YES, it will be done in a few secs(if something wrong shows up like "tar invalid tar magic“, try with another Busybox because the latest version messup with Tar file sometimes) and then phone will reboot
5.After reboot, disconnect your phone, go to settings->Xperia->Connectivity> USB Connection Mode, choose MSC and reconnect your phone to PC
6.Format external SD card to exFAT and disconnect your phone
7.Go to settings->Xperia->Connectivity> USB Connection Mode, choose MTP
8.ALL DONE. ENJOY!
Tested in my Xperia Z C6602 and works very well.

Thanks for this :good:, but i have a question . What will happen with files if we flash some other rom ? I guess we will have to format sd card every time we flash a new rom :/ ?
I think you need to run this exfat support if you change rom.

You can format the MicroSD card externally. I did it and it went just fine. This means that you can skip the 'switch to msc mode' step and the switching back.

I just did this with my locked bootloader. I haven't switched internal memory with microSD so I'm not sure about that, but if the kernel has exFat support loaded, why wouldn't it work?

so each time i want to write something through pc to my SD i need to switch to MSC mode? Because i cant otherwise
But... since I'm already bootloader unlocked and rooted, this "root" process would affect in any way my root?
Another question: exFAT support file bigger than 4GB right?
yes

Try doing a test with another card before flash again new ROM. Maybe your card is defective.
I do not know, I hdont have other ideas, perhaps colleagues to come with other solutions.

I think backing up data from sd, formating it and transfering dta back will help more than reflashing phones software. You got problem when you was using sd with other device, your phone didn't have any problem.
P.S. Didn't read all your posts, I used tapatolk. Try to repartition you sd card. There was problems with custom recoveries with some sd cards if theh was not repartitioned. Look in xda how to repartition sd card.

what have u done before??
more details please
Put SD in card reader then plug to pc and try windows disk check. This should fix common errors on the disk file system, if it didn't fix try formating and recover of deleted file(if necessary) if this even didn't work for you so R.I.P ,dead sd
