I just want to confirm the FreedomPop ubee PXU1964 / Clearwire Atlas stick USB dongle works with the Nexus10 with Craig Gomez's latest AOSP ROM/kernel.
I plugged the FreedomPop stick to the N10 with a generic USB OTC adapter.
I had to login (via 192.168.14.1) and change the IP address mode to "NAT", but that was it.
With FreedomPop's plans, its nice to be in a 4G Clearwire area!
I'll try to report back on power draw, which is my big concern since I can't charge as the same time.

You don't have to root to install any ROM. Can just go straight to bootloader, unlock it, flash custom recovery, clean up data, either adb push necessary zip's for a custom ROM to /sdcard or put them on a flash drive, flash them, done.
how do yiu get one of those usb adapters?

I mean the internet adapter. Can't seem to find it on their website.
FreedomPOP USB
I got this working with my TF201 also. I'd like to get this working with my tp-link tl-mr3040 as well but I'm not having any luck with it.
If anyone gets this type of setup working please let me know.

I have an unrooted (blasphemy, I know) G2. It has wifi hotspot capabilities. Which allow me to connect the nook to the G2 wirelessly no problem. The problem comes from my work, which sniffs out wireless networks, and I rather them not see my adhoc personal network, even if it is secured.
Is there a way to connect my G2 to my nook (probably through micro to micro usb cables) and have it tether? I can connect my G2 to a laptop / computer and using a tethering app (native or PDAnet) and can tether that way. I just wouldn't know how to do it from a phone to a nook (which is basically a big phone).
Any ideas?
I'd need to purchase a micro to micro if people say it can be done that way.
Thanks!
sorry just read your post again and see you not rooted so i guess this wont help unless you root it ROOT IT

That is for WiFi tethering, which I explained I already have working but am looking for another option, wired tethering. T-Mobile has native wifi tethering, one of the reasons I haven't bothered to root my g2.
ok i see , best of luck

I was wondering the same thing last night. Do we know if it's ever been done by any devices before? I'd assume the android device would have to have the specific drivers to recognize the device....If you can get yours hands on a micro to micro I guess just try it out and see what the android device does? When I plug my phone into my ubunutu laptop it recognizes it as an external modem right away, with no additional software. I wonder what will happen when it's plugged into a tablet.
Boy, that's an interesting question. What would happen if you plugged your android phone (that was rooted and setup for USB/modem tethering) into another android phone?

I'll see if I can get my hands on a micro adapter or a micro to micro cord and give it a shot. I work in the tech field, and no one around here has ever seen a micro to micro cord... they seem quite rare.
ive been wanting to find out if this wired tether is possible as well, since it would probably save a lot of battery life over making a rooted droid an adhoc wifi hotspot.
i have been unable to find a micro male to male cable anywhere, but i did find a USB 2.0 A Female -> Micro B Male adapter. The best price appears to be on ebay, seller king6729 seems to have a ton for $2.49 shipped. i cant post a link b/c this is my first post.
just put an order in, we'll see what happens when it gets here. though this is my first rooted device and i dont have a lot of knowledge of how to work on getting the usb drivers working myself
How did the cable work big tourist?

it took forever to arrive, but i finally got a chance to test, and it doesnt do anything. when i go original droid->nook with the cable the droid doesnt even recognize that the cable is plugged in.

I'm pretty sure that this will not work. The Nook doesn't have the USB drivers to "tether" your phone and as such your Nook will not recognize that your phone is even plugged into anything.
Probably a dumb question but can we connect the NC to a fixed line (Cat 5) internet connection. Sometimes no wifi but a wire connection is available.
Of course would need some type of USB to Cat 5 connector.
Does such a thing exist?
I don't know if you'll find what you're looking for, but i'm not ruling out the option.
Meantime, if you can access a cat5 line, and you're looking at buying hardware anyway, why not get a wireless access point?
(I am curious to see if you can do what you are asking, and I don't want this thread to die on the 'get an access point' cop out)
CAT5 Ethernet? Sure, wait until B&N redesign the NOOK and do expect another inch thicker, still want it?
I have a motorhome sitting beside my house and cannot get a wifi signal so I ran a cat5 cable out there to a cradelpoint wifi unit so I now have wifi through the coach.

Assuming a driver is available in the kernel for the Ethernet chipset in question, you *might* be able to use something like the Wii USB-to-Ethernet adapter combined with a USB type converter. I've no idea at all what it will do to the normal network stack, but it's _theoretically_ possible.

I just happened to see this. That is great!
FWIW, I've seen some no-name Android tablets that have a dongle which provides USB ports and an RJ45 jack for a wired ethernet connection.. Does kinda defeat the purpose of a tablet though..

Not at all, it would be great to be able to use my Nook to configure Routers and program firmware, maybe even to use the Nook for some tethering. I would be able to finally get rid of my battery sucking, heat factory of a UMPC.
If anyone finds a way to get a usb Ethernet adapter working with the Nook please so share.

Didn't even think about it that way.
I know they got Ubuntu running on the NC (Not sure how well). Surely there is a wired usb nic that supports Ubuntu. I'm thinking that might be the best way.
I just bought my NC, should be here in a few days. I might just have to play with this..
What about Dalingrin's Nook Tweeks app? Using 'USB Settings > USB Host Mode' can we possibly attach a USB NIC?
I have not played with the USB Host Mode just yet, but I know I got excited when I saw it
Just wanted to link to [webcam support] USB Host support that YOU can try (now in nightlies)...some interesting discussion going on over there too....
Not too sure if I understood correctly your current setup, hopefully I won't recommend you something you have already done/thought about.
For the moment, a quick an easy way would be to plug a wireless router at the end of the network cable and then setup the wireless network. You could then connect to that wireless router with your nook.
Basically, it would look like this (inline text doesn't make a good illustration, but it's better than nothing)...
Router 1 ------(network cable)---------Router 2)))))))(wifi wave)))))))Nook
Sure you will need to setup the router correctly, but it's still very easy to do.

I don't believe so as it not possible to install the necessary drivers. Your best bet is probably an Android phone with a wifi hotspot ,

Hi All,
Today I just bought vulnerable Chromecast from Bestbuy, and I may order OTG cable from Amazon today for the rooting.
I'm kinda new for Chromecast and custom ROM, so if somebody can help me for the following questions, I would sincerely appreciate.
1. What is the main difference we can expect now from Custom ROM? e.g., Does it support "LOCAL MEDIA PLAYING" or other extra features the original Chromecast can't do now? What option we have so far?
2. Is it possible to unroot the ROM to the original Chromecast? I just want to know I have the chance to go back original Chromecast ROM later if I want after rooting the Chromecast.
Thank you very much for your help in advance, and let's enjoy CC.
If you have set up your Chromecast with Internet access, UNPLUG IT NOW - until you update to a rooted firmware that doesn't auto-update, it will try to auto-update itself and make itself unrootable.
For PwnCast 1.0, you get ADB enabled, root access, no auto-update from Google stock (which means no auto-un-rooting!), use of DHCP-supplied DNS (instead of always using Google's DNS). You also get the ability to flash more mods like KyoCast which will let you play local media via an appropriate AirCast/AllCast version. There's another mod that lets you force the DNS to Unlocator, if you want only your Chromecast to use Unlocator (versus the rest of your network by changing your router's DNS).
Umm... I don't know if anyone posted a stock firmware.

Thank you for your reply. So far, I've unboxed CC and now looking for OTG with power cable (from the Amazon search, "Micro USB Host OTG Cable with Micro USB Power", it seems many people are complaining that "micro-USB OTG with power cable" do not give the power, so I have no idea now what OTG cable I should purchase since I requires power for CC to root.)
Once anyone post a stock firmware, is it possible to go back unrooted version using Flashcast?
Sorry for many questions~, thanks.
I got this powered Micro USB OTG cable and this identical one from a US-based seller. Both work fine for rooting Chromecast. The MicroUSB plug goes into the Chromecast, the flash drive into the USB A port, and the Chromecast's power plug into the MicroUSB jack.
My first Flashcast attempt involved a cable from one of my external hard drives and a mess of adapters. It worked, but I went with the dedicated cable for future flashing convenience.
As for a flashable stock firmware, I suppose it's possible just like it is for phones, just nobody has made it a priority since Chromecast is a cheap device compared to a multi-$$$ phone.
Hi all,
My first post after reading for a long time.
(Quick question)
Im wondering if anyone has or knows if its not possible to connect an AP or a wifi router to the Turbo through using the USB port?
(Long version)
My family has a condo at the beach and previously to owning my Turbo I used FoxFi full version to broadcast a wifi network for Netflix, my iPad, the Wife's iPad, etc. While not all at once this worked pretty well and saved the expense of purchasing access to the building wifi.
As you all know Foxfi wont work on the Turbo. But supposedly it still works via tether through the usb port. I work in IT so I was thinking, why not connect a driverless OTG so I could patch that to an AP or a older Netgear router that I have. Was thinking I would just plug the patch from the OTG to the "internet" port on the router and let everything connect to that.
While I know this is not a desireable solution, its one that would work for my one situation until someone figures out how to root the Turbo.
Thoughts?
I'm not so sure if that would work but I know PdaNet/foxfi has a feature that turns your laptop into a hotspot. I've tried using it and it's rather hit or miss but I think that's because of my laptop. It would atleast be worth a shot. It's called "wifi share" and can be found in the menu that you use to connect to your phone on your laptop.

Interesting. My theory was more like use a USB to Micro usb adapter to plug into a driverless USB to ethernet adapter. Then plug a patch cable from that into the "internet" port of a home wifi router. After that turn on FoxFi and use it via the USB tethering option.
Again I understand this is not a portable option, nor as simple as turning your phone into an AP at the click of a button. But for my next beach trip this would be pretty handy.
Before I buy the ethernet adapter, does anyone know if the USB tether to the router idea would work?
From what I know for any kind of internet sharing apps such as foxfi, you need the app or program on both the turbo and the receiving device. Those types of apps dont actually share internet to the device directly but through the connected apps. Think of it like cable in your house. You need the modem or receiver to translate the signal to watch it in your house. I would love this to work but I don't think it will.
