Youtube not working on 3G/HSPA+ connection - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, Guys
I am using "[DEV/ROM/4.1.2] [Dec 21 2012] CM10 | Jelly Bean 4.1.2 - v3.0 for N1" this rom.
However, I met a problem that Youtube is not working on my phone while I am using 3G mobile data connection, but it works well when I am using WIFI.
Anyone has the same problem? Could anyone help me with this?
Cheers,

I did not have the problem. Perhaps your 3G connection is slow. Which ROM are you using? Vijendrahs ROM ?

Yep, I am currently using that one. I have tried other roms as well, they did not work either. I also tried other YouTube player like Tubemate, sometimes I could load the video or ads when I chose low resolution, e.g., 320x240. My 3g speed is actually quite decent, can up to 200kbs. I am wondering it has something to do with the operator or internet setting?

By looking at the App comments for the latest update, it looks like many users are facing this problem (Buffering/Video failing to load). Can you try putting an earlier version of Youtube and test?
btw, Youtube is not blocked in your country right?

Poor quality from Plex

I think I am getting poor quality from Plex when connected to the TV its pretty pixelated... anyone else have that? Or is it an option I haven't played with

Too little information to give you a good answer. But yes, there are options for streaming bandwidth for example that can affect quality.
On the main settings page on the plex app on the xoom, you can change bandwidth that it uses over local, over wan, and over 3g (not useful on wifi xooms). Above 2mbps and all my HD moves and tv shows look 100% HD on the xoom with no jitters, stutters, blurring, nor fragmentation. Couldn't be happier. I'm pretty sure that is the one major setting which will affect quality. That and the quality of the input video of course
edit: Also, I'm pretty sure there is an option to down-mix DTS to stereo on the server through the web browser interface. I would definitely recommend enabling that for playback on the xoom.
Ok all settings were on auto. Changes local to 5mbs but what is remote WiFi... when you are on WiFi but the media isnt?
Thanks

Remote Wifi is when you are still on Wifi, but a different network from your server (at a friend's or halfway across the world). The most important factor here is the upload speed capability of your server. I keep my Local at 5mbps, remote at 2mbps, and don't have 3g so can't comment on the last option (mobile broadband, 3g, or whatever they have it labeled, cant remember).
edit: Check out the Plex wiki on their website. It will answer pretty much every question you can think of. Extremely informative.
Looking better already! Odd that auto doesn't set itself pretty good when its local!
Also anyone have issues with video freezing when going into settings or pausing and the screen locking?

Since when does auto work right on anything?
No issues here, everything works perfectly.

The developer mentioned somewhere that the auto detection is pretty poor and that they would be working on it more in the future. The other advice about tweaking for each connection type is spot on as well

Netflix problems?

I have the AT&T LTE 8.9 Tab. I installed Netflix from the market. Performance is horrible! Choppy video, sound out of synch, not worth watching. Both SD and HD content have the problem. WiFi, I'm getting 17 to 20 Mbs downloads with SpeedTest.net. I don't have a sim card in it, so no mobile data.
Anybody else having the same problem? Any ideas on how to fix it?
I searched, but couldn't find anything on Netflix, other than a couple of people mentioning it works great...
Yea, unfortunately it works great for me.
Try clearing the app data, then try a reinstall from the market.

I'll give it a go. Thanks a lot!
No good. Did all that, and still the same problems.
try other version of netflix, search on google for it.
if stills no go, change the rom
Playback for me is fine, but the UI is ridiculously laggy and sluggish, anyone else have this problem? or know of a fix for it? Is getting pretty awful :/
Netflix works fine...really don't know what you guys are doing wrong. All I had to do is clear app data and login.

Weird. I checked it again after following Orlandoxpolice's advice. SD content is choppy and the sound is out of synch. HD content plays fine. Shouldn't it be the other way around???

no
try a different .apk version maybe?
Same problem with Netflix in HD
I've the same problem, but only in HD. The image appears to be in slow motion, but it only happens when it's on HD. On SD, everything is fine. I've installed another rom, without the carrier stuff, a samsung standard, but the problem persists. My wi-fi connection gives me 20mb...

Video streaming not functioning - CM10

As the title suggests, I'm unable to stream video, this all happened after upgrading from CM9 to CM10. I've tried different apps, YouTube, TED, Netflix, neither work.
I can watch regular videos just fine, including 720p.
Any ideas what's up?

Did you tried those streaming videos on any other phones as well.
Yes, the videos work fine on other devices...
I am able to watch clips stored on my phone, regular files, and I am able to watch clips on other devices (watched some 720p videos from my laptop with MX Player)
I am unable to stream video whether they are in the browser, the YouTube app; TED Talks app; Netflix app, or anything else.
What happens when I try is the thing loads, the duration of the clip is shown in the progress bar, but it refuses to play, just goes in an endless loop of looking like the buffering is finished.

try vplayer and see if it helps
I don't think you understand.
I don't have a problem with regular video clips (which is what vplayer does), i have a problem solely with streaming video.

Hi. First of all, did you fix permissions when you installed cm10? Was it a clean install? If so, try to stream your videos over WiFi, not over EDGE network. A few months ago I was unable to watch you tube videos on my PC and on my phone over WiFi (over 3G network it worked) and I called my ISP after that, in 2 days everything was just like before. YouTube worked again. So, it may be a problem with your ISP too (if using WiFi from home although is less probable).
Ultimately you can try dalvik/cache wipe and reinstall cm10 or try a different ROM, maybe it's gonna solve the problem.
I hope this helps.
Naw it wasn't a clean install (when going from CM9), I did the usual dalvik wipe but that was it. I was going to do a clean install once CM10 stable came out anyway, so I guess I'll take your advice and do a proper upgrade now...
The problem is persistent btw, wifi or 3g doesn't make a diff, but lets see what happens after the wipe.
Thanks

So I did a proper install: full wipe, installed cm10 stable, and flashed semaphore kernel 2.6.0.
After restoring my backup, everything worked. YouTube, TED, Netflix, regular video playback, all good.
Then today, no go, video playback works, but streaming video in either apps no longer works.
The only difference between today and before is that I tried using H/W+ decoder in MX Player, could that have broken it somehow?
Before posting I fixed permissions and rebooted, no change.
Ideas?

YouTube won't play HD quality with mobile data?

For some reason I can't play HD quality videos on my z1s... It will play on standard quality but once I select HD it errors out and won't load. Is it just me or are you guys having this issue as well? I Tried clearing cache, data, force stopping it. Same thing. I haven't uninstalled the update. Might have to try that next. Any suggestions?

If you have the latest version and is not working then yes, you should uninstall the update and try again with the older one. If the problem persist maybe is the bandwidth of mobile phone weak.
It's YouTube. Uninstall to revert back to the original app and it plays fine.

It's 100% definitely the youtube app and it kind of pisses me off a little too actually because yes like stated already, the older version works fine but the most updated version causes the problem and I'm sorry but on a high end brand new device, I expect to be able to run the latest most brand new updated apps, especially ones as popular as youtube! I just purchased my Z1s but I also own a note 3 and YouTube works fine on that phone. I love my Z1s a lot and realize it's the app and not the phone but youtube needs to issue an update and resolve this issue so their latest version of their app works with all of the latest flagship devices! I've emailed them already about it and still no response even, let alone an update.

Really? I was thinking that since my gfs HTC one won't either. It plays fine in my s3, but then again it's rooted. Maybe that's the case? Oh well.

What is the highest resolution you can play?
I seem don't have issue playing YouTube HD. I am just playing some testing 1080p clips such as Nvidia or THX on my Z1s.
My YouTube version is 5.3.32

Anyone else having an issue with LTE and YouTube?

Do I have LTE where I'm at and it works great. I have supernatural speeds and everything loads quickly except youtube. I literally have to watch it at lowest resolution to be able to stream it? Could AT&T be throttling youtube for some reason?
No problem here. If is loading slow and this is only you tube that means they have problems with servers in your area.
