Here's my situation:
I have 4.1.2 Linero Installed on my galaxy exhibit with the T-mobile 4g data plan. I have talkatone and GrooveIP Installed. Both sound very choppy to the other person on the other end when i use it to call. I also have an apple ipod touch 4g with talkatone installed. when i tether the ipod touch to the galaxy exhibit to use the 4g, the talkatone on the ipod touch sounds perfect. the other person can hear me perfect. I also used talkatone on my nexus 7 (4.2.1) and it sounds perfect on the nexus 7 as well. So it's not a question of crappy internet speed. is it the galaxy exhibit itself that can't decode/encode good enough? has anyone gotten talkatone to work well on exhibit?
thanks for any help.
FYI on my hp touch pad with android 4.0, talkatone doesn't work well either.

In case anyone was wondering; I just got an obihai110 (google it if you don't know what it is) and the app works through the DS7, including the microphone. lots of static and a bit broken sounding, but working! Now I can finally make calls inside of my house, and through google voice no less!
try GrooVe IP. there is an earlier free version at mobiles24.

Just buy the app and support the dev. That said, I found GrooVe IP is very staticy and cuts in and out a lot (I'm in an area with decent but not great 4G coverage). Worked great on my Verizon Droid, but the S7 on T-Mo just isn't as nice. Still, it's a little better than nothing.
What do you think is the possibility of us getting this function guys, even if its not officially supported.
I've seen it built in on the 7" samsung galaxy tab 2.

Its not ideal, but im thinking it could be a useful feature so you at least have the option of just taking one device when your out and about :good:
If they had voice calls and especially messaging, then I would totally buy this as a replacement to my phone.
As a response to your question, I am pretty sure that it can be done, heck if the app is just deactivated on the stock ROM, it might be re-activeable, right?
I think messaging would be reasonably easy to activate.
The thing with voice calls is that you would either have to do them via speakerphone, headphones or bluetooth kit. I think I could live with that though for the functionality of a full 7" tablet experience. Its not something I would use in replacement to a phone every day but I'd at least like to have the option, and play with it a bit.
I was going to pick up the 32gb wifi and just tether it to my phone, but with past devices (ipad to phone) this hasn't always been a completely reliable experience and I'd like a backup plan.
So if the 3g device doesn't have much of a price premium I can see me picking one of those up instead. Im hoping its a $50 premium to the 3g device, if its $100 I won't bother.
Enabling the phone app can be easily done. The question is now well the Bluetooth support will. In the current WiFi models Bluetooth headset support has been very unstable (in headset profile). This is the idle way one would make a phone calls a voice enabled 3g n7.

Well let's hope with the arrival of the 3g model there will be more incentive for developers to address the issue.

I'm seriously contemplating giving this a try for a few weeks when I am able to get a 3g Nexus 7...
Yes there are compromises. Headset or speaker phone calls I cam like with.. The not having a camera would be annoying though... :crying:
All you would need is to copy the phone apk over and get 'er done.
Funny we're talking about it because a few weeks ago I had my N7 at a football party and we we're joking how awesome my new phone was. Everyone was holding it up to their ear and making up stupid fake phone conversations. Haha.
They're all mostly S3 and Note owners btw.
Reminds me of the jokes when the iPad came out and people had pictures of it up to their faces like "Meet the iPhone 9... it does everything for you! "

I believe that T-Mobile (U.S) has separate SIM cards for phones and tablets. You can't just take the SIM out of your phone and put it in a tablet. Is there a workaround for this?

Our devices already have phone.apk in the system/app directory.... its our framework that needs to be tweaked to allow voice calls. If you try to copy phone.apk over or install it then you will get a message that you will replace a system app are you sure you want to so it.
Our framework is compiled to hide the app as well as some other changes need to be made to XML files in the framework.res area.

What he said + need to make sure the modem will support voice calls in addition to data PLUS let's hope google will fixe the horrible bug the wifi N7 has with BT headset profile where in 99% of the time the mic doesn't work (otherwise you will only be able to make call with the speaker phone which is lame).

If you use one of subsidized one probably they can tell by IMEI. You don't give away your nexus IMEI. They won't know.

I can recommend Skype. its working on every platform, free Skype to Skype calls, chat, webcam, etc. the big thing is Google voice is not available in my country so it's a no go for me.
Depending on where to call to its from two cent a minute even to mobile phones... example for Chinese mobile phones.

What I'm most interested in is having a connection for data without a wifi connection. Is that what this is supposed to be? If so, Skype could be my primary "phone". Could even bring my current cell number over when my VZ contract is up.
Not sure what everyone is talking about for the BT headphone issues. I use SKYPE now on my 16GB Nexus 7 with RocketFish RF-MAB headset and the headphone and microphone work perfectly.

I thought the question was what to use for voip. But now you change to tethering. I for tethering you have several choices.
First wifi hotspot
Second Bluetooth tethering
Third otg data stick method.
For Bluetooth I can recommend open garden even though Skype does not work with it. Tethering works fine out of box on mobile phones. And about the data dongle with otg cable you can find quite enough threads about it.

I spent a few minutes searching and I didn't find any centralized thread. Do you have one?
SFR in France do it

Ordering a 3g Nexus 7 from French operator SFR, you can select "Regular Voice Call" in your 3G package
I have an HTC One on Sprint. When I connect via bluetooth audio (which Acura calls "Hands Free Link") to my 2009 Acura TSX, I get constant short pops/cracks in the audio. This has not been the case (or I have simply not noticed it) with phone calls.
My HTC EVO 4G LTE worked quite well when playing music over bluetooth in the car. Same with an iPhone 4 (it actually had the best quality of all three).
My One also works well with other bluetooth devices. It only has trouble with the Acura.
Is my phone defective? Ideally, I'd like to test another HTC One in my car to help determine this. I know 4.2 has a new bluetooth stack, so that gives me some hope, too.
Same thing here with a JBL flip BT speaker.

Static Acura
My galaxy S3 does this with my 2013 tsx... Kinda pisses me off..Let me know if you find a fix
When I got my new MDX 2013 Model 2 weeks ago, the agent did state that not all phones will work completely perfect with their hands free system, only certain certified phones for Acura... Maybe this might be the problem, i don't konw.
I have used a IPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy S4 and now my new LG G2. All the other phone have been perfect for streaming music through Bluetooth except for the LG G2. The music plays really slow and the songs skip about every 5 to 10 seconds.
I am not trying to complain and in about 2,000 miles I will be getting a oil change so there might be updates for my cars Bluetooth. In the mean time I am using a audio cable to listen to my music thru my car stereo.
Anyone with simular experiences with their Uconnect. I have a 2013 Dodge Dart Rallye with the basic stereo not the touch screen.
This is because Uconnect is not compatible with the G2, or vice versa, I constantly check the Uconnect website for updates but have none so far.

Yeah, I kind of figured! Oh well, I love my G2 and my Dart...even if they don't play well together. Bluetooth calling seems flawless though...it seems to be just streaming that glitches out.
I would recommend installing CM11 and see if that fixes it. CM team use different kernels and drivers. Might solve it. Seems like a lot of work and risk losing LG specific features though.

If you're on 4.2.2 isn't it a defect in Android specific to music streaming over blue tooth? I have a 2014 Ram 1500 and BT works perfectly for phone on uConnect but not for music. I am just hoping 4.4.2 drops for the G2 soon as I think that will fix it

I would rather walk than drive a Ford. My wife had a Ford lemon and I had a Mercury lemon...
The only Ford I would drive is a Mustang.
I have a 2013 Dodge Avenger and BT streaming works fine for me.
Is your phone rooted or stock? Do you know what stereo you have? Mine is just the base model.
I have had no problem with any other phone I have tried.

All companies have Lemons. Almost bought a pathfinder but IT was a lemon.
First Ford I've ever purchased and I don't regret a thing. Always had Japanese cars before.

I agree, I was just playing.
I don't do the Ford vs Chevy...Xbox vs Sony...coke vs Pepsi...
Kit Kat fixed my problem...streaming perfect now with my G2.
After a few issues i managed to install the latest CM11 nightly on my att htc vivid (s-off) however today i noticed that my wired mic is not working when doing a call, the person i am calling can not hear me.
I checked the CM11 thread and it seems that there is at least another memeber that is experiencing the same.
Is there anything i can do? I have tried my iphone and galaxy s4 earbuds with the same results...
Anyone?

If you read through the forum you should find a number of other people having the same problem. I have seen a couple of people claim that Skullcandy buds do work, haven't heard any others.
I dont think it is an issue of the brand of buds
I have tried several types with the same results. Whats more, everything works fine when i use Vonage or Skipe, the other person can hear me without problems.
This issue only happens when i do a regular voice call. Rather than hardware, it seems like an issue on the voice call application in the phone
