Within the Google now weather card there is a settings tab on the right, directly across from your location name (3 dots) ....under "weather location" what do you have checked?

Hmmmm, Are you stock? Custom rom? If so what rom? Are all location settings on (uses more battery)? How far is your work from your home? Do you spend significant time at home/ work? How much have you used your phone at home/work to search location related things or stuff with maps? How long have you been using Now? Basically Google now is guessing where home is and work is based on typical patterns for most people (ie work is 9-5ish etc). The more you use Google location based services (search and maps) the more accurate it should become. Sorry for all the questions.
For what it's worth my experience has been hit and miss (though I'm in Canada and that might have something to do with it)

Not sure either...perhaps it has something to do with the last update? I have had issues with it lately as well but I updated to a jellybean rom around the same time as the Google now update came out and was thinking it might be rom related but maybe it was the update... I don't know if uninstalling the updates from settings/apps would make a difference or not, I haven't tried that yet .
Just tried that. Doesn't fix it either. Ugh

Ever since the gingerbread update and new Google maps version, my nexus one "gps" icon in the notification bar has been popping up throughout the day. So I began checking under "running services" and now Google Maps is constantly running, I am 100% positive this was not the case before because I checked it repeatedly throughout the day while monitoring battery life like an OCD patient.
Does anyone know the reasoning behind this?
try signing out Google Latitude and see if the problem persist.
I've noticed it since they updated to Maps 5.1. Its definitely related to Latitude. If signing out doesn't solve your issue, I have an apk for Maps 5.0 that you can use. I rolled back when 5.1 first came out. I'm gonna see how much 5.2 caused maps to stay running.
How do I sign out of latitude? I have never used this service.
If you have never used this service, then you don't need to sign out. Under Google Maps option do you see "Latitude" or "Join Latitude"? If it is the latter, then you don't have to sign out anything. If you see "Latitude", click that and go to your Latitude privacy settings to sign out.

Check again, it's a GB feature.
Settings>Applications>Developement>Stop app via long press
Anyhow I always use back button to exit out of any "GPS" related applications
That option is NOT in my applications>development folder either, check your info.
That said, what I am looking for is a way to disable latitude/google maps from constantly restarting itself in the background and staying on and now using 2-5% of my battery everyday even though I am not using the program. I know how to kill it under running services but it always restarts now.

That 'Stop app via long press' is actually a CM feature, not Gingerbread. It was introduced with CM6, which predates GB.

I figured as much. It seems enabling that could cause problems. How well does it play with apps like Browser which have their own action defined for long press on back?
My bad, though it was a GB feature since it was not under CM settings
Do you have any other apps or Widgets that use the GPS while updating? Like a weather widget or something?

I have the same issue - never used Latitude, Long-press to kill Maps and still when I go into Applications/Manage Applications/Running - Maps is still there!? Even tho it doesn't appear in my Advanced Task Killer app?
There should be a way to exit this app properly?! I use it from time to time and going deep into menus is no good.
Froyo with CM6 here...
bump for an old thread, same issue with my gsm RAZR running 2.3.5 stock. i have signed out of latitude, it always restarts!
I use google's Talk a lot and I depend on it heavily for communication. But I find it trying to sign in when I turn it on to send a message. This gives me reason to believe that may be when I go to a part of my building where there are not wifi or data connections, Talk goes offline. But it should sign back in when there is data connection, right?
I think, not sure, Talk goes offline after the phone has been in sleep for a while as well.
People are complaining often that they see me offline (not away) in google talk.
Is there anyway I can make Talk stay connected 24/7?
I'm on official UK Froyo. I have uninstalled the stack launcher (replaced with AWD launcher), email and a few insignificant apps I never use.
I do have app2ext workings as well but I do not believe app2ext has anything to do with the Talk issue since it has been going on for a while and in a range of roms including Cronos, CyanogenMod, FroyoMod and MIUI not to mention stock froyo for MM.
Do you use any taskkiller?
This may be killing the background service.

No. There is only the auto sign in option.
Installed AMO and that seems to have stopped the problem.

Ah, so I'm not the only one having this problem...
Picked up a new Incredible S over the weekend (my old Desire died on me ...). I just starting having this same problem yesterday and initially thought my Swype installation screwed something up. Odd that it only seems to affects the Google home page. For instance, if you're on the news.google.com page and type in the search box, all is fine...
I also tried using Dolphin browser but had the same problem.
Problem with Cirian75's solution is then you lose the benefit of viewing mobile formatted pages...
I think google has done something recently to its search page and its not the phones.
Same thing, and appeared only today and only on mobile Google search page. Browser thinks that's a password form and fills the input text with points. There's also no option to type in other than english.

Yup. All's working fine now. Weird...
all of the location settings are turned on.. yet its not showing the right city.. its showing a city that is over 100 miles away.
any way to fix this.. seems like a pretty big bug

Not if your hopping states regularly
im lost, with the current city option you should see the city that you are currently in, that would be better then to manually set a city that once you leave you dont care about?
I live in one city and work in another. Instead of using the current location setting I have a listing for home and for work. Since I'm commuting 40 miles one way there is often enough of a temperature / percipitation change to warrant the setting.
The temperature is correct. It is the city that is wrong.
I live in Puyallup Washington and the app shows my city as summit view. Never heard of that city before.
When I travel around other cities are displayed correctly.
I am having the same problem since they JB update. I just drove from Sacramento to San Diego and my circle still shows the location as Sacramento. My other weather app and the Sundroid app both show the correct location (San Diego). The temp in the circle widget is correct, as mentioned earlier, but the city name is not updating.
Try to clear the data and cache of the weather app it worked for me when it displayed the wrong zip code for the location I was in. The city was correct though

Doesn't work for me. I have even completely wiped the device with a factory reset. Now I also have that JB issue of all paid app widgets vanishing upon every reboot. I hate this phone now.
Has anyone found a real fix for this? I'm in Minnesota, and half the time my weather app shows me in Texas.
I tried clearing the cache and resetting. It's getting frustrating.
edit: I have gps and wifi location services enabled.
Same Problem
I just got the AHD after trading up from the Atrix2, and while I love the circles widget, the fact that the location is not updating on "my current location" is really annoying, coupled with the fact there is no way to force it to update the location based on current GPS location or adjust the widget for how often it updates.
Anyone found a work around or what's causing this?
The only workaround I found was to turn off auto weather updates and then to turn it back on. Hardly a viable solution.

My phone can not determine my location over WiFi or mobile internet. It does not work with the HTC weather widget on blinkfeed (just constantly shows no weather data available and annoys the **** out of me) Google maps or Google news and weather. All settings have been configured the only thing I haven't tried is GPS.
Im really annoyed as location apps were great on my s3 and my last HTC phone the hd2.
Anyone suggest what might be causing the problem? I wouldnt mind manually typing my location in but that doesn't alter (or at least I can not find a way to) the blinkfeed weather widget
Any help appreciated, I have had a good look through this forum so sorry if this is duplicated elsewhere.

I did have a problem in the first 24 hours of use - no location showing. Eventually I checked all locations settings were <ON> and then ran maps. For the first time I saw the GPS icon flashing and I did get a location.
Hope that helps....
Yeah a hard reset sorted it. Don't know what happened the first time, all settings were exactly the same as the second time I set it up, weird.

I had the same problem. Made sure location services were all checked and then just soft resetted and it finally appeared.

I've tried all above, but no success.
It worked for 10+ days, then last 4 days I only get "MY LOCATION" or "CURRENT LOCATION" in BF or Weather app.
It was very good first ten days, and extremly precise. I'm still on .13 version.
Anybody still having this issue or similar??
It's a known Google problem with about 6 threads here discussing the problem. Google is working on a fix.

My Blinkfeed only has United States option
Im in the UK and I am pretty sure my One is an import. It only has United States in the Blinkfeed drop down so I get no UK topics and services.
Does anyone know a solution?
Much appreciation
