Child capable case - Nexus 7 Accessories

I'm having to replace a second Nexus 7 that my son has dropped and the screen has shattered. I went ahead and am going for a third one but before I give it to him, I want to put a case/bumper/protective something that will help protect the screen. I've looked at quite a few of them but am unsure of which to get.
Thanks in advance.

I'm biased I own and love the Seidio Active (with cover combo) it is Siamese cat proof. The gumdrop has a built in screen protector thingy & I think otterboxes are overpriced and overrated.
Hang loose & others will tell you why Seidio are rubbish & Otterboxes sent from god. I hope that helps a bit.

I use the Seidio mentioned above with a 9, 7, and 5 yr old and it's awesome. Grip is great and protected well.

Phone is so much nicer with no case

I bought the Platinum Case when getting my Nexus-S at Best Buy Mobile yesterday, hate to drop it on first week, and have a damaged nexy. After having it for a day, I was like man, this phone feels very crappy, quality wise, like loose and shaky.
So for the hell of it I took the case off. WOW !!! Very nice phone was hiding under all that plastics, the naked Nexus-S feels very solid and well put together. It was the case that made it feel ****ty.
I still have her in the case while working, will just take it off at night when at home. But would like an Otterbox "Impact" series, slim and tight rubber case. It's these 2 pc connected type cases that sound and feel loose and crappy.
I think gel cases are better for such phones.

Yeap I got it.
+1 for gel or silicone case. i have a black silicone zenus case on my vibrant and absolutely love it (and i've dropped my vibrant twice since owning it). I made the mistake of buying different cases (leather, rubberized crystal, etc) and never end up taking the zenus one off. and anything outside of a gel skin adds unflattering weight and thickness to these very sleek, thin phones. i emailed a zenus seller today to see if they were aware of any nexus s cases on the horizon.
I sent an email to Case-Mate to see if they'll be making a case for the NS. Hopefully I get a response soon.
Im extremely picky with cases
highly recommend hybrid tpu case is great but not out for ns yet
adds little bulk

Well, I hope Best Buy gets some more cases since I just found out that I have a $20 rewards certificate issued the day before the Nexus S came out.

This is a great case. I have one of the hybrids, a plain TPU, and the TMo rubber case. I switch between them, but the hybrid is the best all-arounder.

I second that
I've said it before and I'll say it again.
I hate cases. To me, putting a case on a phone like this is like bringing home a beautiful, sexy woman and then putting a fat girl suit on her.
I just returned mine as well. That case was not worth anything near 35 dollars. I'm using my hacked up nexus one sleeve now and it works great.

I prefer it too, but theres those times where you get bumped on the streets walking while checking your phone (email, text, web) and it causes you to drop your phone.
I also see a lot of people referring to a "platinum case" from best buy... but im looking it over and unsure which one they are talking about bc both use the word platinum.
I like this one alot if only it wasnt purple.

If you carefully apply 4-5 thin coats of PlastiDip you can very easily make your own soft touch battery cover. I'll be posting photos later in another thread.

Pouch Tech 21 d3o case :)

I've just seen the Tech 21 d30 Flip Case for Google Nexus S and it looks very ineresting - it's a flip case and a stand at the same time.
Not to everyones taste but definitely interesting.
the case looks as if it is covering the capacitive keys on the bottom a little.
Found a Solid Nexus S Pouch
I was always a big fan of the Nexus One pouch and wanted to try and find one for the Nexus S. The Nexus One pouch was a little too tight on the NS and I'm keeping my Nexus One for now anyway.
I found this pouch on ebay and just got it in the mail today:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...m=&sspagename=ADME:L:OU:US:1123#ht_2415wt_907
The pouch is almost identical in quality and design to the N1 pouch except it is larger and says Samsung in small print. No Andy logo.
I paid only $3.99 including shipping and am very happy with it.
Thanks for the review. I think I'll pick one up too. How long did it take to arrive from HK?
Thanks

Hey thanks for sharing. Picked 1 up myself
it's a fine pouch,
but doesn't it gets in the way, having to always slide in, and slide out?
i still prefer the Gel skin or rubber shell cases than a pouch, unfortunately there are no after market gel skins available yet.
the ones on sale at BB is only available in Purple according to the website

You're an idiot. Point in case, a guy posted on XDA a couple months ago about going to a bar with friends and a buddy of his spilled a beer on his N1 and pouch. phone was taken out, pouch was rung out and washed, 500$ phone was protected. The MEANING of the pouch is protection. Come on, you understand that concept, right...grown up?
guys please keep the tone down a bit
bennettm89 got an excellent point in regards to the spill protection, it happens more often than you think
haha fine.
I actually got rid of my wallet because the n1 came with a pouch. I sewed in a "pocket" on the inside of the pouch for my CCs and Ids.
It's a relief to not have to carry around both a wallet and a phone now. I also have to worry less about "losing my wallet" cause I'm for damn sure not misplacing my phone.

TPU & Sleeve vs Seidio Active

Ok, so while I am home riding out Sandy and waiting to get a n7 in a couple of days, I would like to hear some opinions or advice.
For protection I am contemplating either going with the Seidio Active or the Cruzerlite and a protective sleeve from roocase or Case Logic or Timbuk2. I think I'll also have the sqaure trade warranty on it.
I want something to protect it in my briefcase or back pack and keep it safe from everyday bumps and mishaps. The insurance will be for major drops, etc..
Any thoughts or opinions
I have a few cases. Seidio by far my favorite. Excellent protection and for me it adds not too much bulk. I also have a gumdrop case, also excellent protection but not as comfy as seidio and you can't use it as a stand like seidio. Lastly, I have a speck fitfolio. Great case. Good protection with minimal bulk.

Ok how rough are you intending to be? LOL. I too have the Seidio Active case and think the bump protection is great as well as the screen cover/kickstand add on. you may also want to check on the new 70 dollar screen cover by xoskins and the Bobj cover as well. Maybe a combo of those would work better in your case, if you intend to be a bit rough with your devices.
I mean do you also want to waterproof the sucker? Just kidding....

No no. Lol!
I'm just looking for basic protection inside of bags and walking around. I am a school teacher and use it to type anecdotes when sitting next to students while they work.
The insurance is for any crazy mishaps. I hate screen protector and since this won't be in my pocket, I'm good without one. Just want something over the screen when I put it in my bags, like the active's cover or a sleeve. The tpu or active shell is for bumps and dings when putting it down or walking around.
Btw: This hurricane is pretty bad and annoying. Just lost part of my fence to a huge 50ft long Branch or tree top. Sleeping in the basement for sure!

My active case just came in, absolutely love it! I was previously using a chrome accessory bag http://m.chromebagsstore.com/bags/accessories/standard-utility-pouch.html I would cover the n7 in a microfiber cloth and put it in the chrome bag. It was over sized but got the job done, and it was waterproof to boot!
I did get some cheap screen protectors from xtremeguardz, think I paid $4 for 2 gnex and 1 n7 protector. Liking it in the gnex so far, considering the n7. There is a small gap between the active stand and the screen of the n7 when installed on the front, so there is still a potential for loose items in a bag to hit the screen.
Glad I held out for the active case, white looked awesome btw

Trident Case Aegis

Presenting to you: Trident's Aegis Case for the Google Nexus 7
Let's Review...
Trident offers tough cases that are proudly made in the USA. I've had several Trident cases in the past (HTC EVO 4G, HTC Flyer, Samsung Galaxy Nexus and now the Nexus 7) I would describe Trident as an Otterbox alternative with a pop of color.
What's In The Box?
Silicone cover
Polycarbonate shell
Screen protector (glossy finish)
Cleaning cloth and applicator card
Aesthetics
I'm a fan of bright colors that stand out, so I like that Trident has chosen to provide color options for their Aegis case. The case comes in Green, Red, Pink, Blue or Black. I opted for the "Trident Green" and am impressed with how bright the case is. The case is just as vibrant as it looked on Trident's website. Trident went with more simplified branding on this case with having only the Trident shield logo in the center of the case and only having the actual "Trident" words logo on the inside of the silicone case. The polycarbonate shell is mostly textured with a few smooth areas.
Protection
This case offers what I'd consider mid-level protection. It has a thick silicone cover to protect from drops along with port covers for the microUSB port and headphone jack. The silicone is very grippy and makes it much less likely for the tablet to slip from your hands. The Polycarbonate shell adds a bit more protection and helps make the case feel much more solid. The only protection you get for the screen is the included screen protector. I'm not a big fan of the glossy screen protector, so I kept my matte one on.
Price
The Trident Aegis case runs $44.95 (+ free shipping on U.S. orders) on Trident's website (www.TridentCase.com) which I feel is a bit steep.
Final Thoughts:
I've only had this case for a day so far, but I don't see myself taking this off anytime soon. My "official" N7 folio case seemed to make my N7 slip from my hands way too easily and the flap would get in the way. I feel much more confident in letting my kids (3 &4) play on my tablet now without the need to hover over them. If you're looking for a case that stands out and offers a bit more grip and protection, I'd definitely recommend you try this case out.
Note: The pics attached were taken from my GNex with flash, so they're a bit washed out.
See a great video review by the guys at DayDeal (no affiliation) on YouTube here

That's weird. I've never had any issues with their customer service. I had the Cyclops case for my old Evo 4g and had an issue with the proximity sensor (it was a yellow case) and they replaced it quickly. I also had a problem with a screen protector not fitting right and they sent me a new one quickly too.

Well I got the cases today. I really like them. I put the red and blue on my kid's tablets. Not even a few hours after I put them on, my daughter (she's 3 1/2), was chewing on the silicon part of the case and cracked the screen. It's sadly funny. They've had their tablets for about 2-3 months and have done great with them. They had Samsung Captivates before they had these. I totally didn't think about the "candy" color and the "gummy" part of the case. And did I have the accident protection for her tablet? No, of course not, DOH! After I get her tablet fixed or repaired, sadly, even though I love the Trident case, I'll be getting a full Otterbox for hers. Nothing chewy on that, lol.

So today I noticed that my green silicone case is starting to stain in all the exposed areas. I've contacted Trident customer service to return it. From their site:
Length:8.00 in
Width:5.00 in
Height:0.63 in
Weight:0.32 lb
I'd say its too thick to be pocketed from my hands on experience. Also, the silicone is very grippy, so it would probably be hard to put in or take out of your pocket (it was difficult in a pair of fubu sweatpants). I'm gonna switch to Cruzerlite's Androidified A2 case. Not as much protection, but it better suits my needs.

Seidio said no, what now for a rugged case?

So Seidio said they have come to a decision on the Nexus 10. They will not be making a case for it. :crying:
What now? Gumdrop haven't brought one out. I don't know if they are considering it. Otterbox don't have one either (I hate them anyway). And the poetic revolution looks cheap & nasty. The BobJ one isn't from a tried & tested company so makes me nervous. What are other rugged case fans doing with their tablets?
I'm at a loss too and frankly it kinda pisses me off. My wife is pissed I sold her ipad 1 because it was slow and the browser crashed all the time, just to get a nexus that is buggy as **** and crashes all the time, like frequent full on crashes. To top it off, there's no such thing as a decent case for it and probably won't be for a long time. I had a sweet otterbox for the ipad, why the **** does the world have to revolve around damn apple products. Why are there 500 awesome cases in 500 colors available 5 months before a new ipad is even announced.
And why the **** does Google have such a buggy ass flagship device.
Fix this buggy PoS and give me a damn rugged case already. A quality one. Not another one of these damn flippy magnet cheap flimsy cases that are all copies of each other.

Where is the love?
I'm kinda Pi&&ed too!! I figured that Google would have accessories available for their Flagship device. We get NO LOVE from the manufacturers like the freaking iPad does!!! Only cheap crappy covers for a device that is suppose to be cutting edge. I just bought a Noreve cover and it's nice, but it's the only cover I have found that is nice, there are no other choices that are as high a quality. I will certainly think twice before purchasing my next device from Google, not to mention the other "glitches"...
Not meaning to be bossy but is there any possibility we could just get back to discussing rugged case alternatives for the Nexus 10.

The BobJ one isn't from a tried & tested company so makes me nervous. What are other rugged case fans doing with their tablets?

Sorry - missed that. A shame that one isn't coming out from Otterbox or Seido. I've got the extended convert combo on my GNex now -- fantastic -- and I could easily see me using something like that on my N10. Still haven't settled on a case myself yet. Still using a neoprene slip case I picked up on day one from Five Below (as you can imagine, it cost me $5). Protects the N10 fairly well when I'm carrying it or not using it, but it's clearly a temporary measure. Really not excited by any of the case options out there -- only one that looks appealing to me is the Noreve Tradition, but I'm not about to spend $110 on a tablet case. Ah well...the search continues.
After the terrible quality of the Poetic Slimcase I will not get another poetic case. Very rarely have I seen a case that does damage to the device its trying to protect.

That's a shame -- I like the overall design of the case, but hesitate to order it based on those reports and the comments that it's SO tight. Disappointing too, in that my son has the same model case on his Nexus 7, and it's excellent: perfect fit - not too tight or loose, no damage to the tablet, very convenient, nicely finished. My son tends to be pretty hard on his belongings (6'4" teenager), uses the tablet several times a day, and the case is holding up beautifully so far. If I thought the experience would be the same for the Nexus 10, I'd order one now.

It really is. I freaked out when I saw the display sticking up in the right corner and had memories of the nexus 7 screen lift issue. Took it off and pressed the screen back in. I'm using the origami roocase now which is much better.

I wish stores like Staples and Walmart would stock some of these cases so we could actually see them close up and try them - and return them immediately if necessary without having to ship back and forth. It was great to get my N10 locally from Walmart, and I'd love to be able to do that with accessories too.

The Poetic Revolution case may LOOK cheap and nasty, but it is certainly not. I own it, and have used it every single day for three months. I'm also Active Duty, so trust me when I tell you it gets plenty of use...far beyond what it was originally designed to handle, I'm sure. Now, Its no Seidio Active case but it sure aint bad for $20. The ONLY bad things I can say about it is that it comes with a built-in heavy duty screen protector that is just garbage, and it bulks up the tablet a bit (which i actually like) Thankfully however, the cheesy screen protector punches out very easily. Get an ArmorSuit Military Shield screen protector to go with it and be done with it.
Bright side is you're only out $30 or so until somebody makes a better case. How much to replace that big 10.1 inch screen if you drop it without the $30 case?
